Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: By if you are a beginner. The book is only for beginners, if you know your basics in max this isn't the book for you. Instead should look at the lighting and rendering books for max if you want your renders to shine. Summary: Very good book. If you are the beginner in 3D architectural visualization and you are looking for jumpstart in this branch of 3D business, this book is definately for you. It tells you how to organize production process from beginning to completion. Gives you illustrated advices with explanation what and how. Book is very easy to understand even if english isn't your primary language. Everything written clean and understandable. Summary: An Architects Tool This book is succinctly written and specific to the Architecture profession. The author thoroughly covers all pertinent aspects archtectural visualization-- written in such a way that is clear and easily understood. The author explains the best methods of performing actions and emphasizes shortcuts. The only complaint I have is that the book is black and white and sometimes difficult to see what he is referring to in the a few of the images. Although conceptually his explanations make up for this deficiency. Overall, this book is heads and shoulders above all over books on 3dmax if you're specifically looking for Architectural visualization. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: The word Bible attracts attention... clever marketing. The book covers a great deal of 3d max. But I was looking for instructions on how to make something glow once, so I thought of Render Post, Max's lens effects UI. I looked at the book and it had a "tiny" and yes I mean "tiny" section on Render Post. Absolutely nothing endepth. So if you're looking for a great all around book that has small pieces of most aspects inside Max, (not every thing and endepth in everything like I thought it might be because of the word Bible) this book is the ticket. Summary: A Great Resource This big book really covers a lot of territory. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, there is plenty of great information. Summary: This Book is Great !!! I purchased this book so I could get a handle on some of the new features in 3D Studio Max 7, and guess what, It's got just about everything in it. The tutorials are pretty simple stuff,(no real eye candy here) but the principals learned are great. I'd recomend this book to anybody using this software, It will give you a great grounding to try out your own ideas on creating special effects and the like. Well done Kelly L. Murdock for producing such a complete reference manual. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Great beginners book Honestly a few days ago I did not know a thing about 3D Studio Max 8. All that I knew was that I needed to learn it. This book Ultimately is the beginner's bible for those out there that have no clue about how to use 3d Studio Max. It is divided into sections which cover all the bases from the Overall user interface, modelling, Animation, texturing and finally rendering. If you want to get started on 3D studio max 8 this is the book, But!! IF YOU ARE ALREADY EXPERIENCED AT USING IT THIS BOOK IS MORE OR LESS USELESS TO YOU!!!(Maybe as just a reference but that's it) Summary: Great book Great book for 3D beginners, but that's about it. Some tutorials on ligting and shadows are pretty good. Summary: Hands on for beginners I am new to the world of 3d and have no clue with regards to a 3d environment. My company bought 3ds Max 8 and have also sent me on a course to "get-up-to-speed" quickly. Before the course started I thought I would purchase this book so that I do not look like a total novice on the course. What I love about the book is that it explains concepts and then moves into a practicle aspects of what it explained. At all times I knew exatly what I had to do (as they have many screen dumps) and I never found myself looking for a button or a tab (which I often find myself doing with training matterial). I have completed the book and have attended 2 days of the 3ds Max course. To my amazement I would say that I am compentent at this stage of the course. To conclude: I think that attending a course is always the best way of learning (if you have a great facilitator) BUT this costs a lot of money. If money is an issue I can highly recommend this book to learn the basics of 3ds Max 8. I hope that they bring out another book that is more indepth. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent intermediate to advanced tutorial I'm 3 tutorials in and very impressed so far, especially with the methodology behind the use of materials to simulate phenomena. The included screenshots on the DVD Rom have been very useful when I miss something, and the reference material is outstanding. This is definitely for users with some experience, and is refreshingly lacking in redundant instructions, but should add a level of sophistication to any 3D artist's toolbox. I just wish I knew they were going to drop $20 off the price before I preordered... Summary: Can't Wait I am a student currently studying Digital Animation and Game Design. I first heard of Pete Draper's book from a fellow classmate who currently owns a first edition copy. Just thumbing through the tutorials my jaw dropped. Deconstructing the Elements has fast become the keystone to many students personal 3ds Max libraries. (We have even been recommending it to our teachers) The tutorials are laid out fantastically and teach you as much about the concepts as well as `how to.' Deconstructing the Elements is the best resource for anyone who wants to learn elemental effects and particle systems within 3ds Max. I can't wait for this book... Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Very Nice Book I'm an architect and i needed some book that actually focused on several types of ilumination for architectural visualization, and this book has it, it's divided in 4 parts, theory, techniques, tips and tricks and taking it further. I like that it has the light theory, an essential part to understand how light actually works in nature. I've only read the theory, and i've browsed some other chapters and the explanations are very clear, very easy to follow and understand, any new or veteran user of 3ds Max will feel comfortable reading this book; lots of pictures to see in full color. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: wonderful max reference book This book is simply amazing. 800 pages of pure greatness. If you have gotten your feet wet a little bit in max, and you are looking to step your skills up to the next level, this is a must have book. I think it would be worth the $35 for just the thorough particle effects chapters alone. But you get so much more, character studio info, compositing, environment modelling, and even scripting (which i still haven't touched in max, but the info is there when i need it nonetheless) Summary: A deeper look into 3ds Max 7 Before I started reading the Inside 3ds Max 7 book, I had read the authors biography. Most of them got a long history with 3ds Max, which makes this book a must-read experience. The authors described each tool in the program and showed its strength without focusing on a specific production process, which makes this book suitable for all 3ds Max users in many fields. The Inside 3ds Max 7 is for intermediate and advanced users. So, if you are new with 3ds Max, try to get a basic background before start reading this book to be able to acquire all the experience included in the book. The 3ds Max 7 book gives you a great experience with the program features that make you able to do professional tricks and effects. The first part of the book shows what is new in 3ds Max 7 concerning each feature. And the following parts go deeper in program features to fully cover the program tools. The 3ds Max book is a great book and will surely give you a solid experience with the program and its features. Summary: Fantastic Book The author obviously knows his subject matter and is able to communicate it to his audience very effectively. While I am neither an expert with 3ds max, nor a professional, I find the examples in this book to be concise, clearly written and easy to follow. As other reviewers point out this book is a great resource for intermediate to professional users. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: a must-have reference for modeling and animation in 3DS Max7 Have you ever thought in creating 3D character? If so, then you must asked yourself the following questions: 1-How do I model my character? 2-How do I enhance my character look with materials? 3-How do I animate my new character? These questions form the basic steps to bring your character to life. Michele Bousquet has answered them in his book Model RIG Animate with 3DS Max 7. The first and the second chapters answer the first two questions about modeling and adding materials to the character. Starting with pre-training on the tools used in modeling and adding materials, Michele goes step by step in his tutorial and applies each tool on the example included in the book CD. The preparation for animation process is covered well in the third, fourth and fifth chapters. Chapter 3 teaches you how to assign bones for the model. Adding RIGs to the bones process is described in chapter 4. After completing the bones, chapter 5 is concerned with associating the bones with the model, which is known as the skinning. My favorite topic, animating the model, is covered in the last two chapters. Chapter 7 is concerned with the character modeling, when chapter 8 concentrates on the facial animation. This book is a must-have reference for animators, designers and teachers who want to deliver the modeling and animation with rigging features in 3DS Max7 in a simple focused way. Summary: You want basic you'll get basic. This is a great book and it's really basic. I got most of the concepts of rigging and modeling from here. Then once you get the hang off it you can start on a more elaborate character. Summary: Super Book for new Character Animators This is a great book for people that are new to character modeling and rigging. There is 80 pages on building a rig step by step. The rig is fully equipped with toe rolls, finger curls, and custom attributes. I highly recommend it. Summary: |
