This Brooklands book is a collection of reproduced magazine articles from Road & Track, Motor Trend, etc from the Allante era. 1987-1993. If you liked this car this book is the last word on the Allante as so few books on Cadillac ever touch on this car. Grossly over-priced new. $50,000 was the same price for a new Porsche 928 or MB 380SL the car did not sell well. Even the over age 60 who at the time made up 90% of Cadillac's customer base thought the Allante too strange, thus the car was never a big seller. The best looking Allantes were the 89-92's with the removable roof. In 1993 the Allante got the Northstar V-8 and by this time the car was reasonably priced. You could buy an Allante in 1993 for $55,000 when the new style Mercedes SL was selling for over $100K. Then GM killed it. An expensive car to build, GM lost money on every one sold. Ironic GM never seems to learn from its previous mistakes. The XLR today has the same problem the Allante had in it's day, a great car but overpriced by 40%. This book is a must for anyone who owns or plans to buy an Allante. They are today one of the used car world's bargains. A mint Allante can be had for under $12000. Avoid the 1987-89 models before air-bags. Another problem that is created financial headaches for latter day Allante owners are the car's electronics. Try to avoid Allante's with the digital instruments as they were very problem prone. Another issue is Insurance, which can be steep as the Pinnfarina body can be expensive to repair when damaged. The Allante was forever imortalized as Robin William's car in the movie "Cadillac Man", and as J.R. Ewing's ride on "Dallas".
