Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Beautiful and imaginative pictures. This story takes place in the late 1800's when Mrs. Stanton-the famous women's rights activist-was still alive. It deals with a young girl, Cordelia, who wants to ride Mrs. Stanton's horse. Mrs. Stanton instead of letting her ride the horse tells her about her childhood experiences. Mrs. Stanton also also makes a great impact on Cordelia when she tries to vote and is not allowed. This in turn inspires Cordelia to stand up for herself. It is a well-written story that shows what life was like for women before they got to vote. It shows that injustices can be overcome when we put our minds to it and when we don't let what others say get in our way of realizing our dreams. This would be a good story to read to 5th and 6th graders as an introduction to American history in this century. The pictures are beautiful. They recall images of a by-gone era. It is interesting that men and boys are painted in darker colors, while Cordelia wears lighter colors. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: A Refreshing View I found this book to be a refreshing, compelling read. The Iraq War and the post-war counter-insurgency are two of the most polarizing issues facing both the American public and the world at large. Unfortunately, the public is more often than not presented only one side of the story. Zinsmeister deftly exposes the pessimistic attitude that permeates much of the reporting of the "main-stream media" and unquestionably affects the way in which much of the information we receive is disseminated. Utilizing his experience as an embedded combat reporter in some of the most volitile areas in Iraq, Zinsmeister presents a credible, fact-based argument in favor of the President's approach to foreign policy in post 9/11 America. Summary: pure propaganda you guys must REALLY be smokin that dope, this book is hot garbage. it is filled with government style propagandic writing, framing the u.s. effort as that of angels, and the iraqi region as caveman central. so "rah rah", so jingoistic, bush might as well hand this out at picnics and church luncheons. Summary: Just a note... Sorry to nitpick, but in the spirit of "setting the record straight," Iraq regained sovereignty on 28 June 2004, not 30 June as mentioned below. It was a bit anticlimactic, as we had all been stockpiling for weeks waiting for the big attack to happen on the 30th. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: A physician of all seasons Dr. Gilbert Mason has written a book which not only stands as an important literary stone in the foundation of the civil rights movement, but also as a window into the humanity and "higher calling" of being a physician. As a white physician in Mississipppi, I was riveted when I read this book. The hardship which was endured by African Americans during this era is unimaginable, and it was only a generation ago. With eloquence and thouroughness Dr. Mason leads us through the origins of the civil rights movement specifically as it occurred in Biloxi MS. The racial hatred and violence which opposed his nonviolent protests and the fledgling Biloxi chapter of the NAACP is laid out for the reader with very good clarity. When I read this book, the secondary theme also jumped out at me, which was his constant pusuit of being a physician , specifically maintaing high degree of ethics, morality, and care for all patients black are white during this period of tribulation. I highly recommend this book to all. Summary: |
