Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Which copy are you on? Brown bear, Brown bear, What do you see? I see my 6 month old son clutching one of his favorite books after I've read it for the 14th time chewing on the cardboard corners. Red Bird, Red Bird, What do you see? It's almost 2 years later and a new copy is being clutched by my daughter as she teethes on the cardboard corners after my wife has read it again for the 14th time. My kids love this book. For the brightly colored illustrations. For the sing-song pattern of the questions and answers. And, yes, for the dense cardboard corners that they've gnawed, and drooled, and teethed on as they held one of their favorite book close. I highly recommend Brown Bear, Brown Bear for your young children! Kevin Decker Summary: A wonderful book for children When I was very little I loved this book. The pictures were really adorable, (Eric Carle is the best), and although it was repetitive I still loved it. That remains the same for today. I still love it and cherish this book. A must for all kids and parents. Summary: Classic This is a classic book. It shows many different animals that are each a different color. We read and sing this one. There is a melody that goes with this book as well to put it to music. All of my children loved this book. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Strange, yet fun OK, imagine a book about a Teddy Bear. Got it? OK, now imagine a book about a Teddy Bear that comes alive. Picturing something like the Velveteen Rabbit? OK, now imagine a book about a living Teddy Bear who gets arrested by a swat team while hiding in a cabin in the woods after he's just buried the corpse of the cabin's former resident. Huh? Now imagine that the Bear is arrested for literally thousands of crimes including: several Unibomber-style mailbombs, corrupting the youth of Athens, holding to the false doctrine that the Earth revolves around the sun, terrorism, witchcraft, etc. Weird? Yeah. I've been attempting to explain this book to all sorts of people and I can't figure out a way to do it without making the book sound completely stupid -- which it isn't at all. Instead it's a clever and cute and sorta touching satire/farce about our War On Terror ... um ... with a Teddy Bear named Winkie. But as strange as it all sounds, it is still a bit like that Velveteen Rabbit image you had in your mind a few sentences ago. In any event, regardless of how strange it sounds, it's a book that is funny enough to be one of those books that your partner annoyingly insists on reading aloud to you at night in bed while you're trying to read your own book and when he isn't reading aloud to you he's still chuckling to himself which makes you wonder what the heck he's laughing at. Summary: An affront to literature A mishmash of political ideas told through the novel concept of "a teddy bear accused of terrorism." However the disjointed timelines and outlandish trial make this book a waste of a good couple of hours. New plotline: Author writes rubbush and is put on trial for wasting my time. Summary: sui generis Winkie is an incisive satire of the politics and psychology of scapegoating -- and it's also a sensitive, brave evocation of childhood abjection. Winkie (the bear) is a brilliant invention, a liminal narrator, and unforgettable character. Winkie (the novel) is a breath of fresh air in fiction, an act of defiance,a children's tale for adults -- and a book I did not want to put down. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Where, or where, is the big hungry bear? This adorable book has been a favorite of my son (now 14 months) for about 3 months now. I also enjoy the clever book, with its beautiful illustrations, and cute story about a mouse who is convinced to share a luscious strawberry...even though the big, hungry bear never appears! Bound to be a favorite in your household. My son just loves turning the pages. Summary: So far , LOVE all Wood/Wood books! This is a short but very clever story! On the back of my hardcover copy it states..."The little mouse will do anything to save his strawberry from the big, hungry bear. The bear holds all the cards, but who is playing the fox's role?" There isn't any mention of a fox in this story, but you as the reader talk this little mouse into sharing his strawberry with you, so that the big hungry bear doesn't get it! That makes us the fox, and my child thinks THAT is really funny! Also funny is the mouse trying to hide the strawberry in dirt with a mouse sized shovel, namely a spoon! He guards the strawberry with chains and tacks. He disguises it with glasses, a large nose and a mustache and then sits it down to join him for tea! However you being the clever fox you are, talk him into cutting it in half and sharing it with you. He happily eats his half by candlelight using the top of the strawberry as a garnish! The details in the illustrations are beautiful as Don Wood strikes another home run. I love that Audrey Wood keeps the story simple, so that I am not droning on and on. My 20 month old does better with shorter reads! Summary: A classic I remeber this book from when I was a child. I just rediscovered it here on Amazon and boy did the memories come flooding back of my mother reading it too me over and over again each night before I went to bed. This is simply a classic book with wonderful illustrations and great narration that teaches a very valuable lesson about sharing. Not to mention the page where he disguises the strawberry with glasses and a nose still makes me laugh to this day. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: One of the better Goldy Shulz mysteries Goldy Shulz, the sleuthing caterer of Aspen Meadows, Colorado, has fallen into a tub of butter. She has landed a cushy job fixing breakfasts and occasional lunches for the lawyers of a local upscale law firm. Dusty, her young friend and neighbor, is a paralegal with the firm. Dusty tells her that she wants to learn to cook for someone special in her life and enlists Goldy as her mentor. The two agree to meet in the law firm's kitchen late one evening to do the preparation for an early morning client brunch, and Goldy is running late. She rushes into a darkened lobby only to trip over Dusty's body, the victim of a brutal murder. Dusty's heartbroken mother, who distrusts police after her son died in police custody, begs Goldy to investigate. Evidence begins to point to a romantic involvement between Dusty and someone in the firm. When Goldy asks that Dusty's home computer be delivered to her at home, the man carrying the computer is struck by a speeding car. Others associated with Dusty are threatened, with Goldy herself becoming the target of the killer. Goldy's policeman husband, Tom, is in equal parts supportive and frustrated by Goldy's determination to go beyond the usual investigative boundaries to find Dusty's killer. This tasty mystery dish is served up with a banquet of delicious recipes from Goldy's endless menu of delights. The 13th Goldy Shulz mystery finds one important change. The recipes, which are many and delightful, have been scattered throughout the prior books, which always seemed to interrupt the flow of the story. This time, they're gathered neatly at the end, making them not only easier to find and enjoy, but allowing us to charge ahead with the tastiest morsel on Diane Mott Davidson's menu --- the plot. --- Reviewed by Roz Shea Summary: Dark Tort I love this series of Characters and book. Great writer and material. Summary: My Expectations Were Too High I usually check Amazon before purchasing anything, be it a book, electronic, or strange gadget. I respect the opinions that others write on the site and usually use them to decide whether I want to read, use, or buy whatever it is I'm looking at. The reviews have been mostly positive for this book. I have always liked Diane Mott Davidson's books, and I devoured each of the previous Goldy Schulz mysteries with glee (although I must admit that I couldn't get my hands on a copy of Double Shot at my local libraries so I never read it, and I did not like "The Last Suppers" at all). This book was pretty slow, and the charcters underdeveloped. I didn't like Goldy at all in this novel; I found her to be much more annoying than in previous books. The mystery kind of took a back seat to Goldy's grief, and after reading a couple hundred pages I was surprised to find that nothing had even happened in the case's development. The killer was a somewhat random choice with quite a weak motive and there were still several subplots that were not solved. Even the recipes in this installment were not particularly mouth-watering! All in all this book wasn't worth the time and I'm glad I paid only the holding fee at the library to read this, instead of purchasing it on Amazon like I was going to. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great children's book - beautiful and intriguing The watercolors are beautiful, but more amazing than that is the way the stories are told. Zen Shorts has really caught my kids. Even my youngest, (7 years) who is drawn to all things panda, is requesting the stories again and again because they make her wonder. There are some wonderful kid's books out there, but this is something special! Summary: Great for grown-ups, but not a page-turner for all kids I really love this book: it's truly beautiful, deep, and funny. But despite how much I enjoy it, it leaves my son completely cold. If you're looking for something *sure* to please a young child, I'd keep searching. Test this one at the library first, or buy it as a wonderful gift for an adult. Summary: Beautiful, thought provoking This book is just beautiful. I have been telling these stories to my martial arts students for years so it's nice to have this book as another resource to share these stories with children. Children love the illustrations and the way the lessons are told within the context of the larger story. Summary: |

| Neuroscience: Exploring the Brain
Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins |

| ISBN: 0781760038 List Price: $99.00 Amazon Price: $99.00 Usually ships in 24 hours |
Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: An Excellent Text If you have been dabbling in cognitive psychology and brain science, have found it interesting and are looking for a broad yet in-depth treatment then this book will not dissapoint you. It approaches Neuroscience from every possible angle: you will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the brain and how it produces, controls and mediates the sensory, motor and emotional functions that underlie human experience. The layout of the text is logical, it uses great pedagogical tools, and the writing is concise and informative (if a little dry). Highly recommended as a first textbook for serious study. Summary: A Brief Review of "Neuroscience" I just finished using this book for an undergradutate Neurobiology class at Harvard University, and found it to be very informative. It has a number of diagrams and illustrations, and clearly describes various aspects of neuroscience in great detail, but in a comprehensive manor. I recommend it to anyone pursuing a career in neuroscience. Summary: Not a definitive resource This book has had praise heaped upon it by previous reviewers. I'd like to put that in perspective. As an undergraduate text or a general encyclopedic reference for the unitiated, this book is reasonably comprehensive and contains substantial high-quality illustrations. However as a reference for more advanced students, there is insufficient detail to motivate serious discussion. I find "Principles of Neural Science" by Kandel, Schwartz, and Jessell far more useful despite being a year older than Bear, et al. If the goal is to lift artwork for a pleasingly graphical PowerPoint presentation, this book is a fantastic resource, but if you want more than jargon and an introduction to the topic (albeit comprehensive), I'd look elsewhere. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: lovely and funny retelling of the Goldilocks story A curious bear cub leaves his mother to investigate a cabin deep in the forest. He investigates bowls, chairs and beds before falling asleep -- just in time for the family to return from a walk. Beautiful and humorous illustrations are the star of this textless retelling. Our two-and-a-half-year old loves this book -- asking for it several times a day -- participating in the 'reading', laughing, feeling indignant for the little girl and her broken things. This is a charming storybook. Summary: A charming twist on a classic children's story. This book turns the story of Goldilocks around. A small bear invades Goldilocks house. It is a wordless picture book that can be used to inspire young students in creative writing, or encourage pre-schoolers imagination. The illustrations are delightful. Summary: a great "read" for little ones This retelling of the Goldilocks story is a big hit with my three-year-old. Without words, the illustrations show a little bear's adventures in a little girl's cabin. While she and her parents are out the bear investigates the porridge, the chairs and the beds. The family returns and the drawings of the little girl's indignant reaction to her spilled porridge and broken chair are priceless. The little bear is discovered in the little girl's bed and is chased away, returning to his waiting mother bear. My son loves to narrate the story for me. The illustrations tell the story perfectly and the humor of the role reversal certainly was not lost on him. Summary: |
