Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Complex, Eye Opening, Vital If you are a doctor, physical therapist, massage or bodywork therapist of any kind with an appetite for in depth analysis and understanding of the human response to touch, this book is a MUST HAVE for you. It's technical and detailed, and it is also ground breaking, eye-opening and very exciting. Juhan covers the topic of the human response to touch from the micro-cellular level through to system responses all the way to the origins of the body/mind split in western philosphy and the consequences of pharmaceutical dominance in health care on touch therapies. He introduces many new perspectives that bring a rich vitality to anatomy. He shows the interactivity - the interconnectedness - the interdependence of all aspects of the human body, mind and being. He presents some of the latest theories about how the body mind are integrated and communicate - Candace Pert's molecules of emotion. Not only is Juhan's research fascinating and valuable to body workers, but also his method of inquiry, the questions he asks, and how he asks and seeks to answer them, are also very educational - modeling ways we can pursue the investigation ourselves. Here are a few examples of the kind of insight that Juhan offers in the Third Edition: Page 17 "This personal, sensory engagement with the self does not spring from a rebellion against scientific authority, but rather from a realization of the present inadequacy of that authority's conception of reality, a realization that is not contrived for the purpose of debate, but which is forced upon [us] by [our] own painful circumstances." "When the conceptions of reality that we maintain do not square with the things we are experiencing, it is not because we are flawed or because our experiences are wrong, but because our conceptions cannot contain all of the facts as we perceive them. And there is no constructive way out of this crisis but to enlarge our sense of reality to include our actual experiences." Page 142 "The goal of bodywork should not be to impose universalized standards of posture and movement upon an individual, but rather to help the individual to cultivate the mental awareness and the physical flexibility to continually adapt to the changing needs of the moment." Page 184 "Muscles that have fallen into disuse and flaccidity just don't provide enough pumping action for these intercellular fluids to adequately feed and bathe the nerve cells, and so the general strength of their functions is diminished." Page 412 "Subjective and objective are not two distinct ways I have of viewing reality; they are two sides of a continuous feedback loop which together make up that reality. How completely I sense my body and how I feel about it has everything to do with the particular course of events going on within it." Summary: Job's Body: A Handbook for Bodywork A bit on the technical side for other than those familiar within the medical field, but would strongly advise reading Job's Body for insight and learning about one's own self. A learning experience definately. Summary: a must-to-be-read for all bodyworkers I am a professional bodyworker and the reading of Job's Body enlighted my work. It's a pity that this book is only published in English and German. I always recommend it to all my students of massage and anatomy. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Wonderful Tool I only ordered volume 1 of this set of 3. I felt that this area is where I needed to review the most. The book is a little less than 1000 questions and answers. I felt that it was extremely helpful and I would recommend it to anyone taking this exam. I passed on the high end of 4 out of the 6 sections of the exam! I wasn't sure at first about purchasing because of the amount but I took a chance and now feel that it was well worth it. Summary: Awesome!! 951 questions and answers!! This book was essential to my passing the NCBTMB the first time. I learned a great deal from this book and well as from Volumes 2 and 3. I was surprised at the number of test questions about Traditional Chinese Medicine. This book provides a great deal of information on that topic. Summary: 951 extremely thourough and detailed review questions!! This was a great book to use in preparation for the NCBTMB exam, even though some of the questions were a little TOO esoteric (5 questions on hyoid muscles? Come on! How often does one massage the THROAT? And the bulbospongious and levator ani? Yeah, right! I massage those every time - NOT!) Even so, it helped me focus on what was for me the most difficult and challenging part of the exam and to find the "holes" in my knowledge. Questions arent' mixed up, but are in order, so it's possible to review a system, take the questions, correct, then review again. HIGHLY recommended! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: Disappointed..... I purchased this book a few months ago, because of the reviews on Amazon. I used this study guide, made a few hundred flash cards and aced the review exams, but on the day I actually took the National Exam I failed. I was blown away by the difference between the type of questons asked on the exam vs. how I thought it was going to be from this review book. Yes, it was helpful to a degree, but I wouldn't bother purchasing save your money and spend it somewhere else. It is misleading. Summary: Should get this when you start classes....tons of info Not only is this book great to review for the final...(I studied exclusively from this book alone and the online review that comes w/ book and passed with high scores 1st try)...but I wish I had purchased this when I first started my Massage courses because it breaks down all of the info you need into easy to read, easy to understand and pertinent information. A great book, you will not be disappointed. Summary: Helpful CHAPTER on articulations was VERY GOOD to study from... Terms such as inversion, eversion, circuduction were a pleasure to study from. The chapter on the muscular system gave the muscle along with its origin and insertion. The really convenient section on muscles of the hip and thigh summarized each section of muscles into certain groups. FOR EXAMPLE, hip abductors consisted of iliopsoas, sartorius, gluteus medius and minimus. This made studying a little easier for the Nat'l exam. The chapter on the reproductive system made it nice and concise. Not to wordy. There is even a nice little medical terminology section in this book that gives each root word. This is very helpful in figuring out some pathology and anatomy words. I also highly suggest, The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Human Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology) Volume 1 The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Clinical Pathology and Recognition of Various Conditions)Volume 2 The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Massage Therapy and Bodywork: Theory, Assessment, and Application. Professional Standards, Ethics, and Business Practices) Volume 3. These 3 volumes have an abundant amount of questions that made a significant difference in preparing me for the massage and bodywork nat'l certification exam. Well-worth the time and money. Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Thank you I recommend this review guide as helpful. I passed Nationals in the first try and feel this guide brought me up to speed. Summary: If you want to pass, this is the best! Awesome! I thought I knew a lot before I used these Study Guides,(Volumes 1, 2 & 3) but was I wrong. I'm convinced that I could not have passed the test without them. Together with "Massage National Exam, Questions & Answers" by Daphna R. Moore I passed the test with a "High" on each part. There were lots of questions on the test about professional standards, ethics and business practices. I'm glad I bought these books, since it is very expensive to take the test over again. Summary: Overkill, but totally worth it I just passed the NCBTMB exam with HIGH in all areas and these three volumes really nailed it for me. There are a few mistakes in the format of the books, but I didn't find any errors in the answers. Some of the information I would never have reviewed had I not used these books. It took me three weeks of cramming 6+ hours a day most days to pass. It's printed on RED paper, which is a little distracting at first, and there are 500 - 950 questions in each volume. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: a reference for family health Its a good companion to ''encyclopedia of natural medicine''by same author.By the time natural medicine take attention of puplic health, we need this kind of good resourses..ty Summary: Great Resource! I have searched long and hard for a reference book and this was a great resource. I have read many books on nutritional supplementation and have studied nutrition for many years. This book has a lot of good information in it. What I found though is you must continue to research and keep education yourself with supplemental information. I found another great resource on Inner Health that was very impressive at librarydepot.com It contained a Nutrition Benefits Chart that is unlike anything on the market. It links nutritional support needed to many diseases/disorders. Summary: ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! This is a book you will use. this is a book you will want your doctor to read, preferably own. It will take the person who is not familiar w/ many alternative care methods and supplements and "baby step" you you through them w/out dumbing anything down or being tedious. it is a wealth of good , easily referenced information for those who are already well versed in alternative medicine..many chiropractor friends have this to refer to in order to best serve their patients... it is top notch and once again EASY to read and understand. I use it regularly and would not part w/ it !!! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: An excellent practical guide for MCQ. But don't be scared If you can answer the questions from this book with confidence, you can pass almost any clinical part of massage therapy exam. On the other hand, simply by knowing the clinical pathology, you may not be able to pass either the NY State Board or the National Certificate exam. I don't think you need to understand every single detail in this book in order to pass either the NY State Board or the National one. (See my other comments on selecting study material if you are interested). The knowledge provided from this book is far more than as a licensed massage therapist require to know. It's good to know more. But don't be scared if you do not do well on those questions in this book. From my limited experience, I think the exam authorities want to prepare us (massage therapists and body workers) to provide SAFE and effective massage therapy to the public. We are not trained to be a MD. Please don't blame yourself if you are not so good as the nervous system, for example. But you have no excuse for not knowing soft tissue. Massage therapists should be the expert of soft tissue. Grasp a solid knowledge on muscle insertion and origin, action and related diseases. You will do well! Good luck Summary: Everything you ever wanted to know... This volume was extremely interesting. It contains information that every massage therapist should know. Some of the NCBTMB test questions were straight from this book. I found it extremely helpful in my passing the test the first time. Summary: Very Helpful in Memorizing Pathology This guide was an excellent resource in getting me to understand and remember various diseases a massage therapist needs to be aware of. I passed the NCBTMB exam yesterday with HIGH in each category and these guides helped A LOT in preparation! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Basic Clinical Massage One of the most comprehensive massage books, the easiest to read and with THE best pictures - showing anatomy drawings superimposed on photos of clients - in various different positions! Reccommend it to all remedial/deep tissue massage students. Summary: Best book I've used so far! This book is the best I've seen so far regarding anatomy and treatment for massage therapists. The illistrations are very easy and clear to understand. This is not the book I was given in the massage school I attended, but it's the one I use and recommend to other therapists. Summary: Best in my library I bought this book along with many others to help in studying for the national exams. I don't remember how helpful it was for the exams, but I refer to it often in my practice. I have focused on therapeutic bodywork, and if that's where your interest lies, I think you'll find it a great reference. The book uses photos of models with the anatomy superimposed. This makes understanding application of the therapy very easy. In some photos, the practitioner is applying therapy and you can see how it affects the tissue involved. It's also a good reference for communication with a client. The book covers many of the pathologies I've encountered so far, and most of the common ones. Unfortunately, it is rather short and I wish it covered even more in the same manner. There is also a very good treatise on assesment. I find myself refering to either this book or Frank Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy before any others that I have. Summary: |
