Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great for All; especially MK consultants and directors. I was really impressed with the work that Jim Underwood put forth to create this woderful book. One of the most inspiring things for me is the fact that he shares insights that I didn't know about the company that I am proud to represent. I left each reading session with an added sense of pride and inspiration. More Than a Pink Cadillac...is a great tool for sharing with prospective team members and their spouses/spices as it comes from a person who doesn't represent MK Inc and shows how much corporate does care about those who represent MK in the field. Summary: This book changed my life! When I decided to start my own business, my goals were lofty and to the average person unattainable. Many people in my life were unconvinced that I could accomplish them. Desperate to grown personally, I began working my way through self-help books and the like. By mistake I picked up MORE THAN A PINK CADILLAC" and my life was forever better. Jim Underwood offers us a look into the life of a remarakable woman who refused to let anyone hold her back. Not only does this book share her personal/professional journey, it shares the journey's of women just like myself. It's not just about business, it's about people. It reminds us that this world is nothing without the people in it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever thought they couldn't make it work...no matter what "it" is. Pure inspiration! Summary: THE book for awesome leaders I cannot say enough great things about this book. Mary Kay Cosmetics is truly a wonderful company and Mary Kay Ash was a very inspiring businesswoman. Even for those people not in leadership positions, this is still a fantastic book. This exceeded my expectations. I was very thrilled with my purchase. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Wheeee! I admit it, the cover caught my eye. Normally I don't do that, but after reading the summary, then the first few pages I had to give it a try. I just finished it last night and I am now a fan. I just picked up another Dorsey book the other day because I knew that I was nearing the end oh, too quickly. To me, Serge Storms envokes images of Hunter S. Thompson. He's just crazy enough to make sense, or too crazy not to make sense. Through his chaotic organization, he takes the reader on a wild ride through a madness coaster, pointing out the sights and historical significance along the way. You might think it's going nowhere, but that's part of the delightful illusion. Soon, you start to see it all unfold before you and it all ties together in the end. While there are scores of subplots, they all work together brilliantly. While Dorsey will not replace my favorite author (sorry, Mr. Dorsey, but Douglas Adams will forever hold that spot), he is now in my top five. You're in good company there. Welcome aboard. Summary: I'm in the minority here! I have to admit, this is the first Tim Dorsey book I have read. I was really looking forward to reading it, because I have read all of Carl Hiassen's books about whacky Florida characters and have enjoyed them. I guess I was looking for another Hiassen. So I was disappointed in Dorsey's book. He clearly is no Hiassen, though he's trying hard to be. I found Serge A. Storms' character to be "unlovable." There were too many subplots introduced that could have readers scratching their heads and having a difficult time following along. As I got closer to the end of the book, I found it harder to pick up and finish. But I did. I won't be picking up any more of Dorsey's books, unfortunately. Summary: I Found a New Author Lucky enough to need a book for my last plane ride, I found Tim Dorsey in the airport book store. His Serge character reminded me of Hiaasen's "Governor", and Leonard's various wack-jobs. It was a no-brainer to go on-line and order 5 more Dorsey books. I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Life, Death, and Politics to a Cajun Beat Glenda, the Good Witch of Northern Oz, said "It's always best to start at the Beginning," but she was talking about the Yellow Brick Road. With James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux mystery and mayhem series, that ain't necessarily so, it's all Good, and the reader may start anywhere within this steamy, murkily atmospheric Southern Louisiana stories arc. In this affair, Burke illustrates that "Some Saturday afternoon heroes will never go gently into that good night." Patrician Golden Boy and former LSU quarterback, descendent of KKK lynchmongers, Buford LaRose is running for Governor of the Great State of Louisiana. His ultra-libidinous wife, daughter of a gumball vendor to cheerleader, aspires to be First Lady. What have they to do with the 30 year old murder of a Civil Rights leader? and what about the Tim Leary flashback guru guy? Burke as Robicheaux in the 1st person does his usual deft job of leading us through a mire of local characters, backwoods highways and bayous and, for tunes for the trip, there's that titular Cadillac Jukebox. /TundraVision, Amazon Reviewer Summary: Back where he belongs... I like James Lee Burke best when he confines his books to local themes, and he does just that in Cadillac Jukebox, the 9th in his Dave Robicheaux mystery series. Robicheaux is still working for the New Iberia Sheriff's Department. Buford LaRose comes from a prominent New Iberia family and was a former college football hero. This golden boy is now running for governor. Over three decades prior, Aaron Crown (a former Klansman) was accused of murdering a civil rights leader, although it took 28 years to bring him to trial. LaRose wrote a book that helped bring about a conviction. Now, a filmmaker is filming a documentary in New Iberia to prove Crown's innocence. Robicheaux is asked to check out Crown's claims, and Robicheaux begins to think Crown was made a scapegoat. As Robicheaux investigates this case, he gets warned away by a number of strange and unattached individuals. As in most Southern Louisiana schemes, the mob is always close at hand. Also, there is a terribly frigtening hit man, Mookie Zerrang, who tortures just for fun. He's after Robicheaux, although he doesn't know who hired him. The more Robicheaux digs, the more dead bodies turn up (mostly those involved with proving Crown's innocence). Unfortunately, with people like Buford LaRose, evil deeds are done in their names but they never dirty their own hands. Robicheaux is determined to not only find some dirt under LaRose's fingernails, but also, some skeletons in his closet. The plot is made even more interesting by the fact that LaRose's wife, Karyn, had a romance with Robicheaux back in his drinking days. Robicheaux unceremoniously dumped this homecoming queen and Karyn now has a hidden agenda that includes humiliation and revenge. Robicheaux's new partner, Helen Hoileau, continues to be a good match, and friend Cletus Purcel is always a scream. A former cop, Purcel tells Robicheaux he is better able to work outside the law to help solve cases. That's definitely an understatement. I have four more books in this series to read, and I'm going to be sorry to see it come to an end. Summary: Great atmosphere fails to carry the day... This is part of a series of books written about an ex-New Orleans cop named Dave Robicheaux nd his trials and tribulations. This book continues some of the same themes that characterize the series as a whole, such as racism, race relations, the difficulties of being a cop while also being father and husband. I love the setting and the details Burke puts in his books about New Orleans and the whole Bayou scene. He shows us the seemy side of New Orleans (which is not too hard to do - if you've ever been there you know what I mean. Not that every other city is problem-free, its just that New Orleans seemy side is very public - hey, its one of the attractions). Burke has a great ear for accents, and this makes parts of his books fun to read. However, his books can be depressing. No one rides off happily in the sunset.. This particular book concerns a white man jailed in the 1990s for the murder of an NAACP leader in the 1960s. He claims he did not do it, but the man running for governor made his reputation proving he did. Dave R. happens to know both men and gets dragged into the controversy against his better judgement... Grade: C - great atmosphere, unnecessary plot twists. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: The Western Water Bible A beautifully written, thoughtful book about all aspects of western development and overdependence on the scarce water resources in our area. No less important today than the day it was written. Marc Reisner will be missed - he gave voice to this sort of issue like few others could. Summary: Incredible read Putting to shame the politicians, bureaucrats, ideologies, and cultural ignorances that led to damming nearly every river in the West, this book is brilliantly written--a classic of environmental literature. That's all that needs to be said. Please read this. Summary: A Canadian says: An absolutely fabulous book and definitely current The importance and currency of this book is inversely and exponentially proportional to the (decreasing) amount of water in the Ogallala Aquifer. I.E. as the water supplies in the U.S. Southwest continue to decline and eventually disappear in the face of demands from Las Vegas (fastest growing city in the US) and Phoenix (everyone likes to live where it's hot), Southern California, and substantial agricultural interests, look out! I read this book about 10 years ago during a two month driving/hiking sojourn through the SW. What struck me most about the book was: 1. it is incredibly well researched; absolutely top notch - you learn about the issues, the people and the places important to the story of water in the U.S. (across the US, in fact, not just the SW) and how the story will spill across the Canadian border in the years ahead. 2. It is a darned good read. Some of the characters are larger-than-life and the author runs with it; it is very entertaining. The overall seriousness and importance of the topic is driven home and in no way is it sacrificed for cheap laughs. 3. a great education on the US Dept of Interior, the US Army Corps of Engineers and the amazing politics of water (dams, irrigation, dams, cities, dams, incredible canal systems, dams, etc.). I can't recommend this book highly enough to anyone who has ever used a tap and thought for a moment where the water comes from and what would happen if all of a sudden it stopped flowing. Even if you've never had a drink in your life, read it! My fellow Canadians are particularly encouraged to have a read and then wonder what may lie ahead for our water resources. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: An outstanding story You're going to love Duncan Delaney if you're male. Between he and his buddy, they do just about everything that you ever envisioned yourself doing, perhaps not exactly, but in concept at least. Things move fast, and there's not a lot of words wasted in this story. It's not long, you'll probably read it in a day. But it's very satisfying. I'm not sure if I'm going to read it again, but I'm not going to give it away like all the other books that I read. At least, not for a while. Summary: A.L. Haskett - Can't wait for your next one! I recieved this book as gift from a family member who I had introduced to Christopher Moore. To her credit she found this gem that C. Moore had recommended. And they were both right on target. What a rollicking, page turning read. A budding painter ventures to LA and finds subjects and people that were beyond his imagination. His art draws acolytes from a strip club and they fast make themselves fixtures in his apartment. The guiless painter ( Duncan Delaney) has left Wyoming and a poor relationship to find that the most intriguing of women are the least simple to understand. What's great: All of the salient characters are well fleshed. The plot gives some nice twists. Laugh out loud contrivances. Fantasy explicating real life. What's not: Too short. It's a fun game that Haskett plays and there is craziness around every corner. Haskett drives home a message - "I was a victim of a series of accidents - as are we all." So A.L. Hasket what about that next book? Summary: Best book I have read in a while I think I found this book by the comparison to (and favorable review of Christopher Moore). It has great dry humor, a mind-boggling (to me) cast of eccentric characters, and a very poignant and inspiring set of endings (because in a sense it has more than one ending). I sure do hope this guy writes more, I am on here looking because I see this was written way back in '00. This is definitely one of the best books I have read in the last few years. This would make a fantastic movie. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Truley A Gem This may very well be the best investment I have ever made. I almost purchased another name brand manual and I am glad I didn't. I found the information in it to be vague and confusing but with the Chilton's everything is easy to find and understand. I have saved over $300 so far by doing the work myself and am about to save $200 more this weekend. I would recommend Chilton's to anyone who is working on a car expert or novice. It's well worth the price!!!! Summary: jack of all trades, master of none This is a very informative book, but if you are looking for something specific on a given model, you may be out of luck. In fact, I got the Haynes manual from the library, which covers less models and years, and that still didn't mention the vacuum pump for an 86 Sedan De Ville, which is the part that I need to replace. I guess I'll just wing it. Neither book addressed the removal and replacement of the antenna, either, but if I were to do that incorrectly, the worst would be lack of radio reception, or maybe a short in the stock "Symphony Sound" cassette deck, which wouldn't affect me too much. Maybe the Chilton's editorial staff book would be more detailed. All in all, it's a very informative book, with a lot of general troubleshooting information. Also, it's going to help me remove my engine from my '70 Eldorado quite nicely. I'm going to keep it, if for nothing else, than as a guide for the Eldo engine and as a generic book on automotive mechanics. All the specs are there, and that's nice. Summary: it's very informative I'm loking forward to reading and getting plenty of know how from this book. I've been looking everywhere for a book on my year's model which is an '89 Sedan deVille. I also have a '78 Ford Fairmont station wagon. Summary: |
