Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: A MUST HAVE FOR GUITARIST I recently purchased this package. The books along with the dvd and a lot of practice will get you were you want to be. I was considering lessons since I am a beginner. I may in the future. After owning this product for a total of five minutes. I have put off my lessons, no need until I find these routines and theories easy. Very Satisfied. Thanks Bill Edwards and Amazon.com for a great description. Summary: Best ever I've struggled with the guitar for about 15 years. Five taken lessons and bought just about every book and DVD out there. Most teach you a few old folk songs to pick out on guitar. Even the teacher i had pretty much just said "heres a chord, heres another chord, now play the guitar" So much time wasted on learning to convert traditional notes to suit the fretboard. If only i could go back 15 years ago and hand myself a copy of this book. Simply amazing! You'll go through the book and wont believe how many times it will click and you will literally say "oh wow" This book teaches you not just how, but why, which after reading this book i realized is just as important as how. Once you learn why the guitar works the way it does you will instantly see how things go together. Don't wait! Buy this book yesterday! I would give it 11 stars if i could! Summary: i recomend it to all my friends this is absolutely the best learning tool i have ever seen or used. it answers all the "whys" you would ask. i have recommended it to friends & am a better player today because of this product! Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great! The video is amazing and the Quick Reference Guide is very useful. We are starting signing with our infant (7 months) and can already see some response. I strongly recommend it. Summary: It's pretty good My daughter uses a few signs.. and it does help at times, but I wish they had an easier to use dictionary of signs...a DVD would be great and easy to make that dictionary on. But I love the quick reference card. We made a copy and have it up on our fridge for easy use. I have to admit.. I am not as dedicated to the process as they say you should be... but we get enough signing in to get our basic need for sign met. Summary: Very effective resource!! This is one book i would recommend to all who plan to use sign language with their babies. It gave specific instructions on how to start (i.e., with milk, more and eat) and what you can expect your child to learn. I like that it showed how babies make their first signs (not how adults do them) since we saw all of it with our daughter. I believe this book is really effective as long as you are also willing to learn. We started teaching our daughter at 7 months and she started signing at 9 months. By 10 months she can use 12 signs and by 13 months she is now able to use 30 signs!!! Need I say more?!! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Operations Mangement for Competitive Advantage Great textbook for OM class. It has DVD and other supplemental applications that is helpful for learning more. I use this book for an online class and reading the materials are easy to understand. The authors are very knowledgeable and their examples are good. I especially like the videos on the DVD. Summary: Cumbersome Reading I went thru this book as part of my MBA program. This book covers a lot of ground in operations management area, but is cumbersome to read. In many cases, the material doesn't flow very well, and is difficult to understand as often the authors have missed key assumptions and background information that is key to understand the concept being presented. Also the book has way too many chapters. Some of the chapters are just too generic and don't have much meaningful and useful information. The case studies are good and very helpful in understanding the underlying concepts. Summary: Good but not great I ordered this book from Amazon, com because even after shipping and handling costs I saved a few bucks compared to what I would have paid at my University's book store. It took a while for the book to arrive and when it did it had a huge crease/bend on the front cover, as I needed the book I didn't complain but after all, I only saved a few Dollars, it took quite a while for the book to arrive and then it was so poorly packed (just had a thin plastic wrap around it) that it did not look as good as you'd expect a new book for over $120 to look. | SAS Learning Edition 2.0

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: great way to learn SAS This package, software and booklet, provides a great and affordable tool for leaning SAS. Unlike most educationally priced software, SAS LE does not require you to be a student in a degree granting program, and/or prove it with a student ID. Personally I am very impressed by the fact that SAS recognizes that "official" students are not the only ones trying to learn on a budget. The software is limited in that you can only display and process the first 1000 rows of your dataset, however this will be sufficient for most of the intended audience for this product, who are simply interested in learning how to use SAS. Another drawback is that the software expires, and will apparently not operate after December 1, 2008, so the value of the product diminishes with time before you buy it. The enclosed booklet is helpful, but not very in-depth, and you will probably want to buy the little SAS book or some other resource to get the most out of this product. You can see what procedures the software is capable of at support.sas.com/le, and there are some links to additional resources there too. For those who used the first edition of this software, you will probably be pleased to know that the annoying cartoon genie help character is gone, which makes the interface look a lot more professional if nothing else. Overall this is a great educational tool for learning SAS, and I highly recommend it. Summary: SAS Learning Edition 2.0 (SAS/EG 2.0 & SAS 8.2) The SAS Institute has finally released a limited (record limit and expiration date) version that is affordable to anyone. If you want to brush up on old job skills or pick up some new job skills - this is an excellent tool for just that. Employees with SAS experience are fairly difficult to find - on either a contractor or direct hire basis. While the expiration date was set (@ something like) 4 years from the original release of this product - it would have been nice for a 'floating' 4 year time period (from original install) - at the price it certainly isn't a deal breaker. The most commonly (mainstream) used SAS Modules are included - and +95% of SAS Code migrates between OS without any change. So, you can use this on a Windows PC - and apply what you've learned at work on Unix, MVS, CMS, or any of the other gazillion or so OS. About 10 years ago - I created a SAS program to generate Web Page 'indexes' for (Digitized) Rolls of Film or (other) Digital Images. The end result is a CD you can view/select/print photos with a simple Web Browser. While it runs in about 30 seconds each time - it's nice to be able to do this at home rather than in the office - or rewriting the program in another (more affordable or stand alone) language. Summary: Underwhelming Make no mistake about it, SAS is a great product. But this CD and manual leave alot to be desired. The SAS webpage made it sound like this SAS|LE 2.0 CD would be robust, but with limitations to the amount of records you can use (to prevent it from being used instead of the real product). That is what I wanted: an app that taught me many of the features from SAS|base, SAS|stat and SAS|graph. It turns out SAS Learning Edition is a very stripped down SAS|base. The only thing it teaches is where to find the menus on the User Interface. The few simple descriptive statistics that you can put together are done just as easily in Excel or in free spreadsheet packages. If Mr. Goodnight wants more people to use his subscription-based products, he is going to have to motivate his people to put together something better. I want SAS|LE to help reduce the learning curve of the real product and show me which features each module has with samples. What you are paying $79 for here is little more than a kiosk DEMO disk. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: There are always quibbles Despite the all the minor quibbles you read this is a very worthwile package. Goodness, look at the 20s articles! They are historically worth the price of the package alone, and they are all at your computer! Do a bit of web surfing and discover ways to put the enourmous set on your hard-drive if you wish. It's worth the cost if not from Amazon than from the New Yorker page itself at one-half the price. Summary: DON'T buy this! ZERO stars. If you live in Europe, forget about it. This thing only works on PC's with an all American time & date system. Unless you want to americanize your computer, it's not usable. Americans could also have some complaints, for instance that the "book" (real paper) that's included is unreadable because it's glued to the carton - and all the selected articles are unreadable anyway because it's only one page, continued on a following page which is NOT included in the book. Furthermore you have to insert DVD's all the time: you can't copy them to your hard drive, no no, INSERT DVD, that's the way. It's EIGHT dvd's: whenever you click an article, you have to insert this or that dvd... This thing has an impractible, arrogant, snobbish and non-cosmopolite air about it - and reading a few articles, one thinks: what's the fuss about anyway? Famous names, sometimes, but not the best those famous names ever wrote, and the rest of the articles (99%) is trash. Chic, expensive but empty magazine fodder, nothing else. Best thing is the old ads, but they tire very quick. Back issues of Vogue and Cosmo would be much more entertaining. This is the first time I will return an item to Amazon. Summary: Companion Volume To get full benefit of this resource I recommend perusing a copy of Ben Yagoda's About Town: The New Yorker and the World it Made. It highlights all the worthwhile authors and articles that appeared during this period. It also provides a lot of context that would not otherwise be available. For example, the famous one story issue of John Hersey's Hiroshima sold out at the newsstands and the entire piece was broadcast on ABC and BBC radio! But then there's also the info that Hersey wrote an earlier piece on John Kennedy's war adventure's that helped make him famous. (The tale was later told as PT-109). It's little tidbits like that that make this book so valuable as a companion volume. Summary: |
