Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excelent, comprehensive, straightforward Very powerful hands-on learning tool when combined with the enclosed DVD. Covers all the functions of Final Cut Pro and allows you to neatly learn hands-on. Kudos! Summary: Certification book If you begin with FCP or if you don't have too much time available, I am not sure if this book is for you. Tips/advice could be better displayed and sometimes, this is a little bit confusing. If you are looking for a specific information, be prepared to loose time to find it. However the CD helps and tons of pictures illustrate the step by step moves. It takes 40-50 hours to cover all exercices and if you go step by step you should be ok. But this is time consuming! It may be good book if you have to pass the Apple certification. Summary: it's all right, i guess, for those who enjoy reading computer manuals i'm a hands-on person, and generally view computer manuals as obstacles to learning rather than as aides. this manual is all right, i suppose, but i just want to worry about editing the film, not about the twenty-five different ways of adding a cross-dissolve. final cut pro is a pain in the neck. i am resoundingly underwhelmed with a program that seems to offer a great deal but delivers very little in return except technological confusion and obfuscation. i get so lost in the fine technical points, that i forget that i am supposed to be editing a story. additionally, transferring the cut to DV tape or DVD in NTSC 16:9 at 24p is a nightmare. FCP is hardly a bargain and barely worth the trouble. i know it's the "industry standard," but i frankly wish i'd never sunk my hard-earned money into that load of crud. steve jobs and bill gates have a special place in hell waiting for them. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great Training for FCP Certification It is great to have a project ready to start editing on a moments notice and really provides some valuable working experience that will help you with a real job. Enjoy! This book is great resource for intermediate editors who wish to start the journey to be an advanced Final Cut Pro. I have enjoyed the entire Apple Training Series, the only thing I don't like about them is that it seems that a new book with a lot of similar material will come out every year depending on the FC studio releases. Summary: Real Editing Practice This book is an essential! Numerous projects and plenty of footage so you can work on actual editing. Chapters cover all types of material. Editing for dialogue and action. Comedy, interviews, documentaries, and music videos. Multicamera and audio. Real-world Final Cut shortcuts and workflow. Lessons are fun and easy to follow. Summary: Student This book was excellent. It thoroughly covered all proponents in what is to be found in FCP 5. There is a whole chapter on multi-cam editing which is a new feature on FCP. The DVD-ROM makes it easy for a reader to do the same excersies talked about in the book. However, this is an advanced editing book so if you are unfamiliar with the basics of FCP then you might want to start on an intermidiate lesson. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: Requires 3.5 Please be aware. This book (and supplied DVD-ROM) requires Final Cut Express HD 3.5. The book does not state this anywhere on the page discussing system requirements. However, on the back cover - it does say it requires 3.5. If you have 3.0 and want to use this book, you'll need to buy the upgrade ($99 from Apple). I'm waiting to upgrade, but the book seems well thought out and takes you step by step through the editing process. I will update my review after I get to actually use the media files. I expect to like the book but I do have a bone to pick with the stated system requirements. On page xvii, the requirements state: 350-MHz or faster Mac OS X v10.2.5 or later QuickTime 6.4 or later 384 MB of RAM 40 MB available disk space required for installation However, Final Cut Express HD 3.5 requires the following: 500-Mhz or faster Mac OS X v10.4.6 or later QuickTime 7.0.4 or later 500 MB disk space for applications DVD drive for installation Other HDV requirements Just be aware of the system requirements before buying this book. I look forward to going through this book and using the practice sessions to get a handle on this application. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: How to cram years of experience in 888 pages First off, finding everything contained in this book will take you on a very long surfing safari, plus many trips to your friendly neighborhood post facility. Save yourself some time and money, learn how to be an expert in your field, and spend more time doing what you love. Second, this is Apple-certified courseware, which means that it comes in the regular APTS lesson-based format, with lesson reviews at the end of each chapter, and material on the DVD-ROM. There are now instructor-led classes devoted to the subject, as more and more facilities switch from another platform to Final Cut Pro, or move up from miniDV to the broadcast world. Now's your chance to learn from the masters and become one yourself. All in all, this is one of the best books of its kind that I've read. It fits right in with the Apple philosophy of giving power to the users. I recommend it to all you editors who not only need to know how the system works, but why it works that way. Summary: |
| Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro for Avid Editors (Apple Pro Training Series)

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Up and running on FCP in a week If you are ever forced to quickly learn Final Cut pro for the odd job where Avid is not a viable option, or you want to start editing your on stuff on the cheap, buy this, read it and practise it for a week and you will be a Pro at Pro, knowing everything there is to know, at least, where to find it and whether it is doable or not. It is a book written by an Avid editor for Avid editors who have to go through the same learning curve. You can be very surprised going through it on how similar the two editing systems are and most of all, how quickly you can synthesise the information and make it second nature. I fervently recommend this book being so well written, going always to the point and covering everything properly. Summary: This book Yes Indeed As an Avid editor and now learning FCP, I can recommend this book for helping to understand where everthing is. This book is a must unless you want to tear your hair out. If you know how it feels going from Media Composer to DS, then you will understand why you need this book and I might add others. Summary: Moving from Avid to FCP? This book is great! We have been an Avid only edit house for years, but reciently purchased two Final Cut systems. Most of the transition was pretty easy, but trying to figure out how to do some of the things in FCP that we did in our sleep on the Avid slowed us down a bit. This book draws great parallels between the two systems. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Compehensive and More Lisa wirtes one of the most (if not the best) comprehensive books about Final Cut Pro enabling almost anyone to "get it" when even the Apple Manuals and on line help do not. I had her version 4 book and now the version 5 book. I only hope she updatesit for version 6, 7, 8, 9 etc, that Apple most assuredly will continue to release. Summary: I Like The Visual Guide Format for Learning Software The folks that do the Visual QuickPro Guides have developed an interesting format that they use for computer books. Basically each page has two columns. The outside column has the text that describes what is being done on that page. The column near the gutter of the book is used for screen shots that show what the screen should look like as you do the procedure described on the outside column. This philosophy is combined with an excellent index and table of contents to enable you to quickly find what you want to do. As such, you can read the book straight through like a tutorial, or you can go directly to the part you need like a reference book. It's a book design that successfully combines the two book types. Although beginning level users can get a lot out of this book, it will be a big help if you have at least a bit of basic video editing experience. Final Cut is a professional level program. A little work with iMovie first might be a big help. Summary: An invaluable reference! Lisa Brenneis has done it again! This book is a great primer and a very thorough reference source. I studied it for several days before taking a course in Final Cut Pro and went into the class better prepared than I would have been without this book. I'm sure I'll find more occasions to look through it. Kudos, Lisa, and thanks! Summary: |
