Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: Absolutely HORRIBLE manual ******One-star is NOT LOW ENOUGH******* Received book as Christmas gift couple years ago. I have a 1998 Explorer, and I continue to be frustrated by this sorry excuse for a manual.....erroneous info, and complete lack of depth. As I found out late last night, something as simple as documenting a fuse-box is complete garbage. I've also owned Haynes manuals, and seem to have had better luck with them. I can't imagine anyone who would be pleased with this manual, unless you require instructions on how to top up the wiper fluid. Summary: 1991-99 Ford Explorer Repair Manual In section 6 the information for the windshield wiper motor is not applicable to my 1996 explorer. Also, there is no information about how to remove / replace the windshield washer spray nozzles. Or how to remove the cowling along the base of the windshield. Summary: Chilton's has lost touch with reality. I purchased this book for needed factual, accurate information of which I got neither. I wanted to replace the lower ball joints on my '99 Ranger, so I bought this book. Take note: on page 8-4 it states specifically that the 1998-99 Ranger does NOT have coil springs. This of course is hogwash as my '99 most definitely has coil springs. In addition, it states on page 8-8 that the ball joint is an integral part of the lower control arm. This, too, is complete hogwash. Please be advised that this book is RIFE with erroneous information - including any pictures contained therein. I have lost all faith in Chilton's ability to present the correct information on ANY automobile. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: Chilton does it again - Don't waste your money As usual Chilton has produced another manual that is useless to anyone who wants to do much more than check the tire air pressure. All repairs that require a slight bit of mechanical ability are not described and instead the reader is advised to take the car to the dealer. Don't bother buying this book. Read the owner's manual that came with the car instead. Summary: A Decent Book, With Some Limitations Chilton books have been part of my automotive coping strategy for years- one of their publications once even helped me find out where a bad repair from my mechanic went off track, and I was able to give the mechanic enough info to get the repair re-done correctly. This book seems to be okay, with one exception that is usual to Chilton guides. There is not NEARLY enough information on dismantling soft trim and dash components, and what there is does not cover the different configurations you're likely to find. For instance, this guide shows how the centre console goes together- but only the extra-cost version with the stick shift in it. The standard console- found in most Tauruses- is not shown at all. Since many owners confine their do-it-yourself efforts to fixing soft trim glitches and replacing light bulbs, this is a considerable lack in Chilton's efforts. Recommended, nontheless- there's very good info on what's under the hood, and it's very specific concerning what CAN be repaired and what is factory-set, and therefore not to be messed with. That's invaluable info on today's highly computerised cars. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: A reasonable book to start with. This book has been around a lot longer than most books. It does offer a lot.A good guide from inspection of your engine to assembly, installation and tune up.Tom Monroe writes in an easy to understand way.His books are helpful so you wont be wasting your money.Plenty of information throughout make this a reasonable book despite its age.The 351C isnt included in this book. Its a good book and is worth adding to your collection.Good value. Its 3.5 stars as there are newer books out there that offer more. Summary: Good book if you are not ACTUALLY rebuilding an engine This book has some good information. When it comes to the valvetrain portion of the rebuild section, the information contained in this book is perilously incorrect. Following the instructions contained in this book will ensure the speedy failure of your valvetrain. If you have $2500 to throw away, I recommend buying this book and doing everything it says. I gave the book 1 star because that is the minimum possible on Amazon.com. Tom Monroe has written several books on this subject with differing and conflicting information. He should try to write one book that tells you how to do the job correctly and find an editor who can eliminate the plethera of spelling and grammatical errors that rittle his work. A side note on the 351 Cleveland issue: The Cleveland is NOT a small block ford. It is not a big block (FE Series) either. It is part of Ford's 335 family of powerplants which includes the 351-400M (Modified or Michigan Series.) 335 Series engines' heads and some other components are interchangeable. They also share the bellhousing pattern with the big block family and will not bolt up to small block bellhousings or earlier transmissions like the C6 with the integrated bellhouse. Simply because the displacement of the 351C engine is the same as the largest small block does not also make the Cleveland a "small" block. It is the block casting and style that earn SBFs this classification, not the displacement. Summary: Clevland The 351C is a small block, every book that I have ever read has always referred to the 351C as a small block. Granted it is a "special" engine but is still in the small block family. But this doesn't really help people figure out if they want the book or not so you should have left it at, "This book does not include the 351C." Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Best Book Ever Written About Fords EEC-IV Compuer System No matter what you want to do with the Ford EEC-IV computer (88-93) this is the book for you. This is a very indepth book that dosent just tell you how to do somthing but it also shows you why it does what it does and why it will do somthing else if you mess with it. He explains how everything works, from the sensors to the computer and then to the acutators, he explains how the work together and he writes very clearly so it is easy to understand and to put into action. Summary: Best Bang for the Buck! If you have questions, or just need a very good understanding of the Ford EEC-IV Fuel Injection systems, this is the book for you. Don't waste your time or money on any other book. This one explains theory, real life problems, and the methods for tracking down a malfunction and correcting it. Also includes what is the best way to go about improving performance, and making the system adapt to performance improvements. Summary: Not what I had expected!! After reading the reviews on Amazon and other sources I got the impression that Mr. Probst's book was "THE BOOK" to read for modification of the EEC-IV system on my Ford Truck. I was very disappointed. 95% of the book was nothing more than a SIMPLIFIED discription of each component in the Ford and Mazda engine control system. Mr. Probst very strongly implied that people should not modify their engine control system. I found Mr. Jeff Hartman's book "Fuel Injection: Installation, Performance Tuning, Modification" much more informative for technical information. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Incomplete Information I bought this book in order to replace the belt tensioner and idler pulley. The book does not appear to contain information on either topic. Even just the torque specifications would have been what I needed on the belt tensioner. I gave it two stars because it did tell me how to replace the fuel filter. Summary: Incomplete information The manual does not cover everything. It does not even have all the wiring diagrams necessary to troubleshoot problems. I would not recommend it for this reason. Summary: good book, saved me money this book is really good, i would have given it 5 stars but most pictures are for 3.8 liter and 4.6 liter cobras and i own a 5.0 liter 94 GT. they describe things well including potential problems with malfunctioning parts, which is good for diagnosis. i have saved 3 to 4 hours on labor by doing some jobs myself. i am somewhat mechchanically inclined. i have never changed my own oil (too messy and i wouldn't know how to get rid of it), but i did replace my EGR valve and sensor, my fuel pump relay, my belt, O2 sensor, spark plugs and wires. the book always tells you when you might be getting in over your head, and says, let a pro do this part. i have learned alot, and saved more. Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: No help at all The wiring diagrams were no help all .There was nothing about the rear washer/wiper, nothing about the heater blower or the side door sensors. I will never buy another Chilton or Haynes manual again. Summary: Claus VonErpest is an example of sheer genius As USUAL, I bought ANOTHER of Claus VonErpest's books, this one for use with my '97 Windstar. His history as a motivational speaker, Pastor of his local church, and his reputation as an unflinching speaker of NON-POPULAR (un-PC) views precedes him. It is refreshing to see a man who is so WHOLE with himself speak his mind and tell his readers to 'piss off'. In fact, he told me, one time, at a Baptism he was performing, to 'go outside and play hide and go screw myself'!!! High compliments by a man so highly regarded in so many fields. His dedication to truth and honest, keen insight should make Chilton sit up and take notice, for they have a GOLDMINE of spiritual and metaphysical thought in their employ. This book is better than the Bible. That's all I would usually say about Claus VonErpest's most recent gem of self auto repair. God blessed us with him and his views and helpful attitiudes. In fact, I'm almost sure Claus VonErpest writes, speaks and acts with God's OWN words eminating from him. I bow in shame of the knowledge that I am REALLY not fit to even whisper his name without a tear in my eye. Summary: Look at the author's opinion! I don't give a damn how hard the author, Claus VonErpest, says he worked on this book. For an author to tell us to screw off if we don't like his book is inexcusable! I refuse to purchase anything from this author for the rest of my natural life. I am also contacting Chilton regarding the author's complete disregard for the people who have or who may purchase his work. Such an attitude indicated the true nature of the person making such comments. I highly recommend everyone avoiding the author at ALL costs. Summary: |
