Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great guide and preparation for trip This refers to the 2005 edition. - I wanted something to help prepare my 3 year old for a trip to Disney. This book was great because it gave her pictures of the major attrctions. She was so excited at the park when she recognized each one. It also helped us pick which rides were best for her ahead of time. One of my favorite parts is how it lists where to find kid favorite foods in each theme park. We also enjoyed the section for autographs and scrapbook/souvenirs in the back. It is worn out from being used so much...and looked at to remember our vacation. This book filled the roles of a guide for me and a book that was for my little girl to look at and enjoy! Summary: My Boys FLIPPED for this book! My Boys, went INSANE over this book....they even read it everynight before bed for weeks leading up to our trip! This was our very 1st trip to Disney and this book was loaded with info for them! They knew just what they wanted to see and do when we got there! Amazing! If you have kids old enuf to read and plan (my boys are 10, 8, 6 and 2) then this is a MUST for them! Really gets them involved!!!! Summary: Disney World for Kids by Kids is the best!!! I purchased one for each of my grand children ages 11 and 8. They are totally into this book. They have made an itinery for our trip, including special meals. Taken responsibily for chosing their clothes and toiletries to pack. This is an excellent educational book for children going to Disney World. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Looking to Get the Kids Involved? This is the book! I am not the biggest fan of the Everything books: I have found their text to be over-simplified. However, here, it plays in their flavor tremendously. Like the fantastic Mom and Me Cookbook by Annabel Karmel, (which I can't recommend enough if you are looking to cook cutesy-crafty items with your kids, especially younger ones) this book gives illustrated utensils needs (like if it needs an oven to make, then there's a little picture of an oven at the top of the recipe) and starts with a glossary of cooking terms and safety guidelines. It's got a great little guide for how to set a table, and is full of puzzles for the older kids to do and tips about any number of things that have to do with the meal. It also includes a difficulty level which is terribly handy when you're cooking with younger children or children spaced far apart (like mine). It also has a very handy conversion chart (you know, how many cups in a gallon sort of thing) that for me, is worth the purchase price alone. But what I love about this book most of all is that it is REALLY full of kidcentric recipes. I didn't find a single recipe that would not appeal to my children, plus in the end, it included a chapter entitled "Let's Play Some More" which had five craft recipes including making bubbles and edible finger paints! I was especially pleased to see a chapter entitled Lunches, Sandwiches, and Brown Bag Ideas for which my nine-year old is extremely grateful-- "Bologna and Cheese, or peanut butter and jelly?" is the most asked question in our house besides, "Did you use the blowdarts on the kids again? They're awfully quiet." Anyway, this book truly gives you what you are really looking for-LOTS OF EASY DINNER IDEAS constructed around your children joining in. I have found that most children's cookbooks (even the aforementioned Mom and Me Cookbook) have a majority (or at least half) of sweets as opposed to really good dinner fare, and this includes both working together without leaving the most difficult meal to come up with out of the picture. I mean, if you want to make a dessert with your kids, almost all of them are thrilled with a roll of pre-made cookie dough or a boxed cake mix-are they not? Dinner is another matter, and I think it's important to be able to include them on such an important daily chore. Imagine the gap-toothed happy grin when you point out to your spouse that they did a great deal of work on dinner knowing that you are instilling the importance of working as a team to provide a meal for the family-it's priceless. This book helps you do this without strapping you or the children with a hard-to follow recipe that doesn't appeal to the children. I also want to note that I highly recommend this book for the ten or eleven year old that has expressed a desire to learn to cook-if they love to read then this is the book for them, and the book covers safety in detail so I would have no problem letting them loose with the easy recipes by themselves-with supervision, of course, but in the hands of a mature 12-year-old, you could sit and read the paper while they work at dinner (just the thought makes you giddy, does it not???) They will be well-educated and also enjoy the puzzles as well-it would make a great gift for the inquisitive and studious tweenager who loves to help out around the house. I have to honestly say, this cookbook is in my top two for children. It's a good purchase by half. Chapters Include Lets get cooking Wake up to a good breakfast Lunches Sandwifches and brown bag ideas Snack Time Soothing Soups What's for Dinner (By far the largest with 24 entrees) Desserts Smoothies Let's Play Some More Summary: Great Recipes... I borrowed this book from the library not so much so my daughter could cook; she's 17 months, but more for me so I could find some good things to make her; I'm not much of a cook. I really like the recipes that were in the book so I returned it to the library and plan on purchasing this book real soon! Summary: For the budding chef I bought this as a Christmas gift for my nephew. He loves to cook and has started taking cooking classes at school. I'm sure he's going to love it!! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: What Comics SHOULD Be! This is the Comic book that more comics should aspire to be about! Mike Kunkel has really created a deep, personal and beautiful adventure that made me feel like a kid again reading it. As a lover of animation, the Penciled, sketchy style just sucked me in and kept everything moving across the page. The story is exciting, hilarious and thrilling all at the same time. I LOVE Herobear, and even though I bought all of the individual issues when they came out, I LOVE this collection. The Sketckbook pages are wonderful and really give readers a fantastic peak inside the creative process. Summary: Great introduction to characters I've enjoyed the individual issues of the comic book since day one, but suffered through long, L O N G waits between issues. As a collected volume, the story makes much more sense and the beauty of the art can be better appreciated. We are introduced to charming, imaginative characters whose storylines aren't completely wrapped up in the final chapter, promising further adventures. Unlike a previous reviewer, I don't consider the extra, "behind-the-scenes" artwork to be "bad news." Like my favorite DVDs, this collection of extras enhances my enjoyment and makes me feel like I'm in on the creative process. Buy the book. You can't go wrong with a polar bear in a red cape. Summary: One of my favorite comics ever. Herobear and the kid is a great, nostialgic book. I cannot reccomend it highly enough to anyone, from a parent who wants to give their child some good wholesome fun, to a jaded cynic who might need to remember their childhood (and pass it on). Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: For older kids I have bought a lot of yoga books lately, looking for the best resources to use with my preschool daughter. From the reviews and the title and description of the book, this one seemed like a good candidate. It arrived today and I opened it up; right on the cover page below "cool yoga, stretching and aerobic exercices for cool kids" it adds "ages 6 - 12." Well! I wish I had known that before I bought it. Then I looked through the book and it lost another star. Overall, I this book is geared for preteen kids to read to teach themselves yoga and I think the author underestimates the ability of this age group to tell when they're being talked down to -- this is based on the illustrations and descriptions of each pose. The text is simplistic and the illustrations even more so. They are cartoonish drawings, not even real photos of children doing the poses. Like a Fish in Water by Isabelle Koch would be much better for this age group. Summary: An excellent exercise resource for kids! This is a book kids will love because it makes exercise so fun, so easy and so, well, cool! What kid today doesn't want to learn all the great yoga moves their moms and dads are doing? And with plenty of solid information about what moves work which body parts, great stretching exercises, aerobic activities and a superb workout journal for kids to record their accomplishments on, this is a wonderful tool for improving health. The book's colorful illustrations help kids learn the proper body positions and poses, and the step-by-step instructions are super easy to understand. This book is perfect for kids from 5 to 15, and even adults who never did yoga before will appreciate the simple, yet detailed directions. Get your floor mats, get on your workout gear, and get in shape, kids. This book will not only make it easy, but fun and exciting at the same time. Who doesn't want to learn how to walk like a bear??? MARIE JONES, (...) Summary: Excellent Coverage For Kids I Think this book is well put togather, it has a very good insight to childrens thoughts on excersise. Carol Bassett has done a beautiful job on helping children from all ages with her New Book. She has expressed the value of Yoga & what it can do physically & mentally for any child, I think this book should win an award. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: An awesome choice for our star-crazy young ones! In true Mary Kay Carson fashion, Exploring the Solar System : A History with 22 Activities isn't dumbed down even the slightest. Carson respects children and seems to grasp well what they can be expected to understand - which is often more than what they are credited with. As a result, her text is thorough and frank and can easily be read to would-be astronauts as young as 4 or 5 years. And the illustrative photos are stunning, the perfect foil for the text in capturing the imagination. From interviews with well-regarded scientists (including explanations of how they themselves became interested in studying space) to easy-to-execute activities to a very thorough timeline of space exploration, Carson has once again thought of everything for engaging our own little scientists. I simply cannot recommend this book enough. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: A beautiful book I enjoy this book and similiar ones that are based on a Waldorf-education approach to crafting. The projects are well-explained and useful as well as beautiful. "Kids Embroidery" is a down-to-earth book of crafting with easy to follow directions. Summary: Excellent Embroidery Book I recently purchased the how-to-book of Kids Embroidery, by Kristin Nicholas. It's terrific. The book is descriptive with step by step lessons on how to make an embroidery project. I have 3 girls, elementary school age that can follow the directions in the book. It's exciting to see the vivid photos of multi-cultural children in the book, as well as the illustrations of how-to's. I would recommend this embroidery book for anyone who'd like to give a gift to a child or adult, buy for themselves, or donate to a teacher's classroom for projects during school. This book will keep the kids busy for hours, and in the end, they'll have crafted a beautiful project as a gift or for themselves. Summary: Fun Fun Fun! And not just for kids... I've been a fan of Kristen's work for years. Her knitting patterns are fun and beautiful, so imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this book! This easy-to-follow book offers instructions on all of the different stitches that can be used to make all of the different colorful, creative, and innovative patterns she has designed. I'm 35 and I'm set to try my hand at this cool craft! Summary: |
