Summary: Excellent series by an exceptional writer
Francine Rivers hold her own against any contemporary writer out there, Christian or not. One of the best series I have ever read and I am quite the fan of historical fiction. Very few writers come close to her accuracy and eye for detail which do not compromise her ability to portray relationships with an intense passion. A true gem for anyone's library.
Summary: Incredible!!!
This is by far the best fiction I have ever read! It is so well written... from the Characters, Historical setting, facts, scripture.... I could go on and on about how amazing each of these books are! You start with the first one and you are gripped! It is a story that will hopefully leave an impression on you and characters that you will not forget... And even more so... it inspired me. Francine Rivers is a very gifted author... I recommend all of her books but this series most especially!
Summary: One of the best ever series I have read
You will want all three books. Be warned though, once you start reading, you may as well forget housework and anything else you have scheduled. Very seldom have I devoured and recommended a series like I have this one. The first book will take you about 100 pages to get into the historical aspect but it is WELL worth it. I have read all of Francine Rivers works since this series and although all of her writing is good - this is the best.

Summary: Joseph Lekuton is elected to Kenya Parliament
On July 24, 2006, this remarkable young man was elected to the Kenyan parliament to represent his home district. He says thank you for the help and encouragement he received while living in the United States.
Summary: This is another student of Mr. Lekuton...
He is both a wonderful author and teacher. It has been a wonderful experience hearing first-hand the stories told in this book, but as many cannot meet him in person, this is the next best thing. This is an entertaining book that narrates the life of a child in Africa. I have never heard anything like this before. I highly recommend this book. Unfortunately, Mr. Lekuton will be leaving the school where he teaches after this year to go back to Kenya. He will be running for Senator there. If you live there, vote for him! This book is a great read for anyone, and it really puts our own lives in perspective
Summary: The Consequences Of Drive and Choice
Lekuton's personal account sheds light and beauty on the Maasai culture and the uniqueness of life in the savanna. For those who call Kenya home, it is both a chance to reminisce and an opportunity to explore the diversity in lifestyles. It is an educational story of how one man struggles against the tide and carves out his own destiny. Although sometimes misunderstood, all that he does is carried about to give back to his land and his people, to keep something precious to him alive. He hopes to give his people the tools they need to preserve their traditions and create a better tomorrow. We all need such a purpose driven life - Blessings to Lekuton on his wonderful journey...

Summary: Eye-opening
I've always thought Samson one of the least likable heroes in the bible: an infantile bully, a selfish, stupid child in the body of a giant.
Grossman shows a Samson who is much more than that. Yes, he is selfish and violent, but also hurt, lonely, and always yearning for love.
This book contains interesting foreys into literature, etymology, religion and contemporary culture, but stays focused on the main subject: the heartbreaking story of a man born to be betreayed, again and again, by his mother, his wife, his people, the one woman he loved, and maybe most of all, by his god.

Beautiful, fascinating and touching
highly recommended.

Summary: arring Question
Grossman's exposition of the Samson myth is wonderful. At the end I am left with a jarring question: Is Samson perhaps the first suicide 'bomber'?
Summary: HIGHLY LISTENABLE NARRATION

According to the Bible, Samson was called by the Lord. In the eyes of Hollywood it was a prime role for Victor Mature. Most will use Samson as a synonym for strong man. Yet little is truly known about the man.

Acclaimed writer David Grossman has an advantage over many would be biographers in that he can read the story of Samson in Hebrew, and for this author the man who brought down the Temple killing not only himself but some 3,000 Philistines was quixotic, troubled, and alone.

As the author describes his hero's psychological characteristics, he ably draws a parallel between Samson and man today by saying, ""Yet, beyond the wild impulsiveness, the chaos, the din, we can make out a life story that is, at bottom, the tortured journey of a single, lonely and turbulent soul who never found, anywhere, a true home in the world, whose very body was a harsh place of exile. For me, this discovery, this recognition, is the point at which the myth -- for all its grand images, its larger-than-life adventures -- slips silently into the day-to-day existence of each of us, into our most private moments, our buried secrets."

Even the most recalcitrant Sunday School student probably remembers the story of Samson as it is packed with excitement, drama, and adventure. According to the text, an angel appeared to Samson's mother before he was born saying that he would be the one to save his people. We remember that the secret of his uncommon strength lay in his long hair, which was cut by Delilah who then gave him to his enemies. It was a tortuous journey to fulfill that early prophecy.

Writer, director, voice performer Mel Foster offers a highly listenable narration of the story of one of the most fascinating yet enigmatic biblical figures.

Summary: Another Hero to follow...
I actually read the second and third Scot Harvath books first and enjoyed them both. When casting about for my next read (a year or so later), I saw The Lions of Lucerne, and knew I needed to find out where Scot came from.

I enjoyed this from start to finish and found it hard to put down. While you wonder if any one person could excape death so many times in one book, remember, it's just a book (as in, entertainment)! If Scot was a mere mortal, it wouldn't be as much fun. And, in the end, you are pleased and just a little hopeful that the real life good guys are allowed to do what really needs to be done, like Scot is.

Non-stop suspence, action, intrigue, and exotic locations, it's all there. The book is not overburdened with romance, either. Not that good ole Scot couldn't hold his own, but there just isn't a need for it in Lions, beyond what is there. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good thriller with a larger than life hero who is just trying to do his job.
Summary: Great, great start by Thor, but needs to watch plausibility.
The twists and surprises in the story are masterful, displaying the tremendous skill of this writer to tell a really interesting story.
Brad Thor creates a hero that comes through despite impossible odds. Nothing wrong with that. All heroes come through despite impossible odds. Batman always comes through. Mitch Rapp always comes through -- of course. We want our heroes to be bigger than life, that's why we love these books.
I rate this book four stars because this is a wonderful start to a writing career. I don't rate it five stars because the "how" the hero comes through, many times, lacks credibility. For example, for the plot to work and Scot Harvath becomes framed for murder, it is important he leaves without his gun. Not realisitic at all. This secret agent would never leave without his gun. Never. Remember when Claudia was going to cut the strap of his assault weapon because he was being choked by it as he was hanging over a precipice and despite being near death he shakes his head no because a soldier can't be without his gun? Another no-no committed by Brad Thor: Scot leaves a hair strand in his door to ascertain if anyone has entered. So Brad Thor, in order for Scot to be banged over the head unconscious, makes Scot's tiredness the excuse for going entirely against his training. Scot sees the hair is missing so he second guesses himself and convinces himself that he forgot to put the hair in the door. So he enters and gets whacked on the head. Totally unrealistic. To a professional there are no coincidences. They don't second guess themselves. A real professional would treat the missing hair as always indicating an intruder. And if he forgot to put the hair in the door, so what? Better safe than sorry. Scot Harvath, even tired, seeing the hair missing, would become instantly alert, draw his gun and go from there. And oh brother, when Claudia is surpised by one of the Lions who is aiming his assault rifle at her, not only does she quickly flick the ice pick at the guy, and the pick actually hits the target pick first, but goes through scads of material. What are the odds? Million to one? And the contact killers and the Lions, for that matter, can't even shoot the side of a barn. They are forever missing Scot. He sees the wall chipping or the ice chipping and knows automatically he is being shot at with silenced weapons by expert marksman. They forever miss him. This happens all the way through the book. All this and more are annoying, but the story is so interesting that it is almost forgiven Brad. What is refreshing is that Scot Harvath is a decent guy with values. There are no complimentary steamy scenes in this book that many authors have to insert to save an iffy plot. Vince Flynn is still my favorite hero author, and Mitch Rapp still might be my favorite hero character, that is, if Vince lets him do exploits instead of making him older and stuck with a controlling wife. Robert Parker's Spencer is forever being lectured by his psychologist mother/girlfriend. Half the book is this lecture. What in the world are they doing to our heroes? Ruining them is what. Brad Thor has a promising beginning. Scot Harvath should go through many adventures before he gets sandbagged by psychologist mother/girlfriends or controlling wife.
Summary: Lions of Lucerne
Great story if you're a fan of Mighty Mouse. Nothing of value that I could find, and I'll stick to Vince Flynn.

Summary: Great old fashioned adventure
I loved this book as a child. I remember having it read to me when I was six. Of course, I was oblivious to the Christian theology running through it at the time, and in later books some of the references to other races is questionable. But this first book remains a classic and an innovator. If you enjoyed it try reading Lightsleep by Matthew S. Batham, a new fantasy about a bratty boy who finds himself in another world.
Summary: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by: C.S Lewis
This book is about four children Peter,Lucy,Edmund, and Susan. They come from London. But it all changes when they go in the Professor's Wardrobe. They go in the land of Narnia where it is always winter but no Christmas. When the evil witch kidnaps their brother Edmund, they know that they have to save Narnia to save their brother so they do with the help of all the pure creatures of Narnia, and the help of the legendary Lion Aslan. With all that help they retrieved their brother Edmund killed the Evil Witch, and they all became royalty to the land of Narnia.
I liked this book cause it was very exciting, and it had a lot of tension. It was exciting cause the war that they were fighting looked in the odds of the evil witch, but in the end they won. It was full of tension because I saw the movie and I knew there was going to be a battle so I was waiting for the battle. I really liked the part when the good guys raided the Evil witches camp. This part was good cause the good guys snatched Edmund back and they started to get feared of the bad guys. I think that this author did a very good job with this book I loved it, and I have no suggestions what so ever.

Summary: What a cute story!
I really liked this story and both of my children have enjoyed reading it as well. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is simply because I feel the story leaves too many unanswered questions. Now, I realize that this is sort of part of a series and that some of those questions are answered in other books, but I walked away from the book with a bit of an "unfinished" feeling. Oh, the imagery though - I can literally SEE many of the images in my head as I'm reading along as though I am watching a movie. I definitely think this book is a classic fantasy book and is great for younger readers who love to read too!

Summary: The First Novel
This was the first novel that captured the hearts of many, thought provoking and deep in both mystery and action, Wilbur offers provoking thoughts and a view to the past, once again not all of his writings are fictional in whole; there is a breath of reality invoked in each passage and chapter. It's a fictional work, with a tender side to fact.

I now have all his works, most I have read in the past, only a few have I missed. 26 large volumes, gives hours of great reading, only three books are short. A readers dream come true.

The last book, 'The Triumph of the Sun' is still waiting to be read, I prefer paperbacks; on this occasion I chose to accept the hard cover, rather than wait.

Such an Author, a grand epitaph of a great writer, indeed. Few will feel cheated by the many works he has created, though for some the confusion of where to start can be daunting. Almost all Wilburs works can be read as seperate works of Art, but, it it's far better to start at the beginning and much more rewarding.
Summary: My beginning of a 30 year love affair with Africa through the eyes of Wilbur Smith
I was given this book in October 1975 by a friend who said, "Join me in a love of adventure, history and characters that become part of your very existence." I couldn't resist the challenge. I was drawn into the book and was immediately transported into another life. This book has everything. If you never read another author, you will be captivated with all Wilbur Smith books once you have read this one. I was. I have now read every one of his works, at least ten times each. I get through the whole collection and a year later, find myself returning to them again. Now I buy them as presents for the un-initiated.

Summary: A BRILLIANT BIOGRAPHY - WELL DONE!
This is a brilliantly written biography of one of the most fascinating characters in history. Like most of Mnchester's work (I must admit to being a big fan), this is a very readable biography, well researched and holds the reader's interest from page to page. We see so much of Churchhill in his role as a WWII leader that we tend to forget there was a young man, living, learning and growing before the back and white films we see today. It is good to be reminded of this from time to time. It is also, for those interested, to learn how a world leader of Churchill's calibre came into being, how he developed and why he was the way he was. This work gives us great insight to those questions. Cannot recommend this work highly enough.
Summary: Insight Into A Great Man

This is a two volume work that provides an outstanding portrait of a great man. Mr. Manchester shows him in all of his roles but most importantly he allows the reader to see that Sir Winston was a nineteenth century aristocrat trapped in the twentieth century. Volume One brings Sir Winston to life but Volume Two offers a view of his years in political exile where he became a voice in the wilderness. This biography brilliantly displays the astonishing scope of Sir Winston's strategic and geopolitical insight. It also shows how in many cases - and to the detriment of mankind - he was his own worst enemy.

From a personal perspective I found the details surrounding the actions of Neville Chamberlain to be the most informative because his naivet has always been astonishing to me. Mr. Manchester puts the whole attitude of appeasement into perspective but unfortunately he seems to portray the appeasers as weak, ignorant men, who placed their personal agendas ahead of the country. While some of this assessment may be correct I think Mr. Manchester fails to show the appeasers as men of their time who had been so appalled by the carnage of WW I that they were willing to do anything to avoid another war.

Volume One clearly shows Sir Winston not only as a man of action but it shows him for what he was underneath - an aristocrat. He shamelessly used his connections to further his own ends and it was these connections that allowed him to flaunt military orders. He did things that another officer would have been court-martialed for. At the core Sir Winston was an aristocrat who treated non-aristocrats with indifference. I felt Volume One showed Sir Winston's flaws as a man but it also showed his development not only as a politician but as one of the most strategic thinkers of the twentieth century. This volume also gives you the foundation for the opposition that he encountered throughout his career. He was so ahead of his contemporaries that they never seemed to grasp what he was saying and he was unable to convey his thinking without coming across as a power seeker. This was the price for his earlier self-promotion.

With the advantage of hindsight, Volume Two shows in painful detail the step by step climb to power by a raving madman - Adolf Hitler. It shows how the European powers had multiple opportunities to stop this and to avoid WW II but they could not bring themselves to take the aggressive steps necessary. The "peace at any price" was the prevailing attitude and the failure by the politicians to act raised the price of peace day by day and year by year until WW II was inevitable. Perhaps the greatest message in this volume goes unsaid and that is that the anti-war and total disarmament crowd always seem to not prevent war but to make the on-coming war more disastrous and more inevitable. Perhaps the ultimate message here is that the absence of war is not peace. In any event these were two very good books. Sir Winston's "World War II" and William Shirrer's "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" are also well worth reading.

Summary: Tale of a Giant Lives Up to Its Subject
Although William Manchester didn't live long enough to complete his biography of Winston Churchill, this first book of the proposed triology begins with Dunkirk and shows Churchill at his most magnificent before switching to his early years. Manchester's prose--eloquent, clear, moving, and witty--is a fitting vehicle for the story of a master of the English language, and the story itself is filled with amazing adventures and memorable anecdotes. This book and its sequel are the best of all the Churchill biographies.

Summary: Great book!!!
This book is about 4 kids, Edmund, Peter, Susan, and Lucy. They are pretty wealthy kids and live in a pretty nice house. But things start getting weird when Lucy finds this other world in the back of a wardrobe closet that she finds upstairs. She goes into the world and she runs into this faun. His name is Mr. Tumnis. He invites her to his house for tea. After being there for what Lucy thinks is 2 hours, the faun says that he shouldn't let her go because of the White Witch's orders. When Lucy goes back, she thinks that her brothers and sister will be worried because she thinks that she has been gone for 2 hours. When she asks if they are worried, they say "no you were only gone for 5 minutes." Then Lucy explains what happened to her and they don't believe her and so they make fun of her. Then, a couple of days later, Edmund goes into the wardrobe and he runs into the White Witch. She bribes him to come with her back to her palace. She asks him if he has any other brothers or sisters and he says yes. So then she sends him back to get them. When he comes back without them, she gets very angered. Read the rest of this great book to see what happens next.
Summary: Narnia-Just the Begining..!!
The book "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" is a really interesting book. What happens in this book is really extraordinary. Four children, live with this scientist who has a huge house. The children explore the house. He youngest one, Lucy is so curious that she ventures into the wardrobe! What she finds changes her life! What's inside is a city called Narnia. She meets a faun called Tumnus and has tea and cookies with him Before she knows it she goes back home and tells her brothers and sisters. They don't believe her. Eventually they go into the wardrobe and find that Lucy is not lying. Lucy and the others look for Mr. Tumnus and later on discover he has been captured by the evil White Which. There they meet tow talking beavers. The beavers tell them about the ancient prophecy, that two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve will fill the four thrones at Cair Paravel (the capital city of Narnia), the witch's power will fail. They meet the king of Aslan and they fight in war with him. They end up winning and Lucy, Peter, Susan, and Edmund are crowned kings and queens of Narnia. They end up living there until they are adults. When they go back to the wardrobe they realize that they are nothing but kids.
My recommendations would be toward the younger audiences because they might love all the characters. I think that anybody who likes reading interesting books will like this particular one. I also recently saw the movie and I was totally blown away! I thought that it was going to be boring. It ended up being really interesting. I think that it's better than the book. Other people say it vice versa. But I guess other people have different opinions. Anybody can love/like it!!! I do know, at first I didn't like to read and I thought it was so boring but this book opened all the posibilities!!!!
