Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent book for advanced InfoPath topics If you want to get more indepth with InfoPath, this is the book for you. It covers advanced topics to launch you into designing more powerful digital forms. I especially enjoying the topics on workflow, sharepoint and Web service integration. Summary: Another Microsoft "Bookware"... Just two comments: 1) This books fails to convince me that InfoPath is a necessary product at all. Looks like more bloatware from Microsoft. It is nothing more that a weak scripting technology. Microsoft should have used more time in better development for Access, or Excel, instead of creating some new package. But I know some people at MS, and I know that a new product there means another position for Product Unit Managers, Development Managers, Test Managers, etc. So, that is probably the only reason they needed to add yet another product to the already bloated Office. 2) It looks like the book authors understand InfoPath, but then they don't understand anything else: BizTalk, Web Services, etc. The book is very, very, very weak when it comes down to software architecture and design. And it comes short in many other issues that affect any other piece of software built nowadays: globalization, customization, security, etc. A better use of your time and money is probably not to use InfoPath at all in your projects. Stick to SmartClient technology, which is well explained is several paper in MSDN. Summary: If you must code in InfoPath, this is the only book With all due respect to my esteemed fellow InfoPath programmer, this is the only book worth owning if you have to code complex projects in InfoPath VBScript or JavaScript. InfoPath is supposed to be the world's most cutting edge XML tool. With it's strong hooks to Web Services, it's supposed to be a thin-client tool for th 21st century. But how do you code connections to a Web Service? How do you auto populate a form using information queried from a web service? How do you query a web service from code in the first place? How do you access a UDDI catalog from code? How do you fill a list box with a number of web service descriptions to let the user choose which one is the correct service? How do you code a master-detail one-to-many form in VBScript or JScript? This is the only book which shows you how to code this very common, typical, highly characteristic programming problems. Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: This is one of the most useless books i have ever seen This book reminds me of the fluff book that gordon letwin wrote at the dawn of OS/2. Like that one this book is full of hopeless drivel. The amount of VB is miniscule, the book is mostly C++. But, It really dosent matter if your looking for VB, or C++ examples, since the chopped up code examples in this book will just confuse you. They have also become outdated in the two years since this book came out. Dont bother with this book unless your getting it on the 50% off clearance rack. Summary: Must be Windows Expert This book is a poor choice if you want to learn to program in the Pocket PC environment. The back cover calls this a "practical guide" but the book spends most of the first six chapters describing how Windows CE programming evolved from Windows programming. You must be fluent in Windows application development in C++ for this book to be useful. The examples are poor and do not work with the Visual Tools software available at the Microsoft site. Summary: This book is not for PocketPC Unfortunately a lot of examples in this book are not for PocketPC platform. I tested them on x86emu, Compaq iPAQ and Casio PocketPC devices and analized MFC code. Some examples must be strongly modified to work on this platform. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Another must have book for MAPI and Exchange Armed with this book and a copy of 'Inside MAPI' you can begin to unlock the insides of Microsoft Exchange. The book helps to clarify what is an extremely complicated and convoluted system. Without both of these books, any attempts at writing MAPI and Exchange applications is almost certain to fail. Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Not a bad book, sanely written It may not be the Sybex book..but it's got nicely set up chapters that someone new to VBA programming can actually read and understand. I found new tricks in the 1st 3 chapters I could employ right away. Summary: Don't confuse with Litwin, Getz, and Gilbert's Masterpiece! ATTENTION: Did someone tell you to get the Access97 Developer's Handbook? Then this is not the one you want. I don't know what Microsoft Press is doing publishing a book with almost the same name as the Sybex edition. The books are NOT the same. The Litwin et al book has been around since Access 2 and is a must-have for any serious Access developer. The Litwin book is tested, (the code on the CD actually works) and has a loyal following. Bottom line: don't get confused by the almost identical titles. This book is not the one that Access developers have built their careers on. Summary: It helped me tremendously. I had one evening to learn what Data Access Objects were and implement them in a project I was working on. I had tried previously to learn about them unsuccessfully. This book was my last chance. The information clicked for me. It took me no time at all to bang out the code I needed. Understanding higher level material is not easy. One author's way of writing may not make sense to you while another author's explanation will. This books works for me. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent for Exchange Developers Well, If I tell you the truth, I believe this product help you definetly to improve the Use of Exchange Server, great book, congrats to Peter J. Krebs Summary: Gave me some leads but fell short in detail. This was just about the only book I could find on the topic of building applications for exchange 4.0. It covers building client applications with the 4.0 forms designer tool (EFD) exclusively. The sample applications helped me understand this tool but the chapters detailing how to expand the applications with VB were very sparse Summary: Clear and concise, nice sample code Great book, buy it. (Ok, so I wrote some of the sample code...= Summary: |
