Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: great certification tool!!! great certification tool!!! but u will need also transcenders for exam preparation. contact me on my gmail account (certstuff). i will send u a list of transcenders i can sell u, 10$ each one. thnks Summary: Excellent coverage and completely reliable This is definitely a better book compared to others available. Although I haven't made it all the way through this book yet, I'd like to say that it's taught me a lot. I've been using computers and managing Windows Servers since the days of Windows for Workgroups. Just goes to show even though you use an operating system daily there are still many things you can learn about it. With the excellent content and practice tests, this book is a GREAT buy! I would definitely recommend it. Summary: Very Well Written This is an excellent reference. If you are studying to be an MCSA or MCSE certification , then this is the book you need. One thing I always loved about the author is that he delves into the technologies clearly and concisely and gives practical how-tos. Unlike some of the Microsoft materials out there, this book is actually readable and does not feel like a bland technical manual. The book covers everything need for exams 70-290, 70-291, 70-293 and 70-294. And the difference between this book and other certification books out there is in the details. Stanek truly knows Windows and he knows what's on the exams and what is needed to prepare. The book as an excellent source for information even for those not studying for certification and I would suggest that all Network Administrators obtain a copy, no matter what you think your skill level is. It's very useful, and like all Stanek's books, straight to the point. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Good overview and review, but lots of errors I already have my MCSE certification and am using this before I start interviewing to review all the information I learned in a 7-month class I recently completed. This is a great overview and review book! It definitely is nowhere near the only information you need to pass the Microsoft exams, but I don't think they're claiming that it is anyway. The only complaint I have is that it's full of errors! It looks like they took an older edition, maybe for Windows 98 or NT, and went through it changing parts that were new, only they forgot to make half the changes. But overall I'm very satisfied with it as an overview to jog my memory about a lot of things I'll need to know in technical interviews. Summary: If you know what you're doing, this is a good book. If you don't know what you're doing, this is not a book for you--the Nutshell series expects you to have at least a working knowledge of things, and preferably an intermediate to advanced knowledge of them. MCSE in a Nutshell IS a good book because it allows the advanced user to do a quick study of the topics they're familiar with, and use alternate learning materials for the areas in which they are not. It is also excellent for giving you a quick idea of how much or how little you know. It's my favorite book on the subject because it's concise, contains good information, and tells you both what to expect in the real world, and what to expect on the tests. (As we all know that Microsoft's view of the world does not always coincide with reality.) If you buy this book, though, use it as a REFRESHER and not a teacher. I noted one or two instances where the information given would have gotten me a wrong answer on the test, because while it applied to reality, MS's view on the topic was different... But this is how it is with MOST books (including official MS documentation). Summary: good review for the tests i used this book as my primary review for 070-240, the combined test for nt4 mcse's, in addition to the readiness review cd from the microsoft kit. i passed the exam. don't buy it if you're looking to learn the material; what it's useful for is if you either already know the material, and need to make sure there aren't any gaps in your knowledge, or if, like me, you need a good outline-type review of the material. it's condensed, sure... if a topic doesn't feel like you know it, you will need to reference other books to learn it. but as an overview, to make sure you know what you need to know for the exams, it's perfect. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: There is now a second edition... FYI, Dan York wrote a second edition of this book that was published in Nov 1999. He apparently updated the text based on feedback from readers and to correct some errors in this first edition. The new book is softcover and the ISBN is 0789722658. Summary: Written so everybody can understand it I highly recommend this title, as it explains networking with examples that everybody can understand (even without previous knowledge of the topic). The only reason that I will not give it 5 stars is that I encountered questions at the certification that was not covered by the book. But it still gave me an excellent knowledge of networking, and I passed the certification with a comfortable margin, so it is absolutely worth the money. Summary: An excellent resource for learning about networks This book is the only resource that I used in preparing for the Network Essentials 70-58 exam, and I passed the exam. Dan York does an excellent job of taking technical material and describing it in a very easy to read, down to earth format. The book is well organized and well written, and it not only prepares you for the test but also helps you to learn the technologies involved with computer networks. Summary: |

| ISBN: 1572319054 List Price: $299.99 Amazon Price: This item is currently not available. |
Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Comprehensive and complete. Not only does this kit provide excellent study material, but it will also prove to be an invaluable reference afterward. For people (like me) who cannot afford the instructor-led courses, this kit provides the necessary training to not only pass the exams, but also to be a good network engineer. Use one of the study guides just before the exam, but use this kit to gain a thorough understanding of the material first. Summary: Check First! I purchased this training kit mainly because it contained a 120 day evaluation copy of NT. I thought that working with NT would be much more beneficial than just reading about NT. I didn't get very far into it before I ran into some problems with the software. From what I did read, the information provided seems relatively well organized and informative. There is a caveat. If you're thinking about buying this training kit because it contains an evaluation copy of NT (like I did) I would STRONGLY suggest that you make sure your system can run NT Server. It's MORE than the processor or the amount of RAM you have. Check Microsoft's web site for a complete hardware compatibility list. If you ignore this warning and have problems with the enclosed software, don't expect much (if any) help from Microsoft. Summary: Excellent book that suites for anyone! Microsoft did it this time! The 4 books of the 4 required MCSE exams are excellent and can suite for anyone. Perhaps they make books better than they make softwares... Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Great book but too much information. I found this book well organized and a great source in my study for exam 70-67. BUT, the book provides a lot of information that will not be on the exam. It's very detailed description of network monitor for example. Many topics here are on the NT 4.0 in the enterprise exam. I needed other study guides to guide me in the right direction as to what will be on the exam. The advantage of this is that this book will become a GREAT reference after you have passed your exam. By the way, I passed with a score of 927. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Uneven and incomplete Based on the previous reviews of this book, I relied on this book as my main source to get me through the exams, and I was very disappointed. The Advanced Admin section was adequate, but just barely. I passed the exam, however there were several questions on the exam on points that were not even mentioned in the book. The NDS Design & Implementation section, however was much worse. One of the keys to passing the test is knowing the concept of how Subordinate Reference Replicas are placed inside and out, and how to read a server chart to determine where these SR Replicas are placed. The book mentions how these types of replicas are placed in one or two very cryptic sentences and only mentions that you need to know how to read a server chart without actually explaining it. I failed this test miserably on my first try. After that I visited a friend of mine who is a CNE, and she drew me a server chart and explained how to determine how SR replicas are placed, and I 'got it' in about 5 minutes - it really isn't all that difficult of a concept. I retook the test one week after the initial attempt and aced it. In fairness, the section on Design & Implementation does cover EVERYTHING ELSE you need to know for the exam in sufficient detail and explains it very well. So, if you rely on this book for the Design and Implementation exam, make sure to know everything in that section of the book, and then seek out an actual CNE and have them explain to you how to place Subordinate Reference Replicas. I cannot overemphasize how important that is for the exam. Summary: Better than the larger study guide This book is the exact same thing as the larger CNE study guide but without all of the stupid ACME jokes and cross word puzzles. Many of the passages in the larger guide are just copied and pasted into this book. There are a few things however that just aren't covered in enough detail. You have to have a good knowledge before you read this book. If you are going to use this alone I would make sure you have a practice server to play with. Summary: Beleive it or not, this is all that you need I know that this book is suppose to augment the main CNE book. But quite honestly I only read this book for both tests and passed both of them in one day with just reading this book. I found it to be very good and accurate for these tests and had no problems passing both tests. And if I can do it with only reading this book, anyone can. Dack N+, CNA+4, MCP, CCNA Summary: |
