Summary: some almost ghoulish Some of the Geddes photos in this book are a bit extreme - almost ghoulish - with babies under stretched sheer fabric - giving a weird, almost preborn appearance to the infant. Most of the photos, though, are beautiful and creative and just what we have come to expect from this photographer. The audio CD by Celine Dion is absolute perfection. Summary: Celebration of new Life Tender, loving, educational, informative. A perfect gift for the new mother. The CD with the songs sung by Celine Dion was an extra bonus. Well worth the price! The pictures are beautiful and these men's bodies are incredible! A very tasteful and aesthetically pleasing collection! Summary: If Madonna likes it then it must be pleasing This book was originally published in France last year, and I was very eager to see a US release. Although, there is very little text in the book (only on the inside cover, and at the very end it gives the players' names and ages.) "Looker Room Nudes" is a photo book. I purchased from Amazon.com for only $[...] with free shipping and I found this to be an excellent price. Because this is a very luxurious, oversized, hardcover book. And, for a book of this quality and magnitude I would have been glad to pay at least double that price, plus shipping. As an openly homosexual man I am only too elated to display this visual tome on my coffee table. Because all the men are angelic, the photos are very tasteful, and the pictures are interesting. Please know that none of the pictures inside the book can be described as crass or vulgar at all. Instead, the majority of the pictures inside are of their faces, backs, and muscular chests. There is only one fully nude picture of a statuesque lord sitting down with his uncircumcised penis exposed for all to gaze at. There is also a snippet in the front of the book by superstar Madonna, in French. In my humble opinion "Dieux du Stade" is pure art. All the pictures inside this book are stunning black and white. Francois Rousseau managed to reveal each man at their strongest and most vulnerable simultaneously. I recommend this book to anyone that appreciates top-quality photography, art, or the delicate nude male form. Summary: The Book Outshines even the Dieux du Stade Calendars and Videodiscs! The extraordinarily beautiful and lavishly produced calendars and videodiscs that have come out year by year of photography, of supremely fine calibre, of the rugby players who are members of the team, Dieux du Stade, Paris, and of their "guests", i.e. other rugby players from teams all over the world, have become iconographic monuments of the nude and nearly-nude male body. However, this book, drawing upon the wealth of photos and stills from the videos, perhaps inlucding yet other images as well of the same and perhaps other men, surpasses even previous products. This book is gorgeous; it is overwhelming; it is an exalted tribute to the male body and to the god-like figure of the professional athlete. There is something almost supernatural at times in the supernal beauty and naturalness, as Rousseau captures them for immortality, of these varied and magnificent men that makes one tremble, not just with sexual arousal (but that, too, and how!), but with wonder at the sheer grace, strength, and allure of the male human form and of the photographer's art. Judging from the copyrights, which are given up to 2007, well in the future at the time of the book's publication, one presumes that there are images and probably players, too, not yet included in the videodiscss and calendars that have come out to date. This is a lavish book and more than well worth its price, a fine monographic tribute to the photographer, Francois Rousseau, as well as to such men who, astoundingly, have been permitting themselves to be photographed so intimately. There is little written text, so whether the buyer is English- or French-speaking (or of any other language), the book will be a worthwhile purchase for truly anyone, anywhere in the world. Women and gay men will thrill at these photos, but so will lovers more generally of the nude in art of Rousseau's level as he has attained it with the camera! Summary: |

The word "Master" in the title is not commercial hyperbole, but an accurate description. For not only does author Christopher Grey (of shootsmarter.com) show and tell you the where and what, he demonstrates it for several different shooting styles: from both basic and classic portrait lighting to headshots, high- and low-key lighting, glamour, fashion, "Hollywood" and more, plus related techniques of photography. But I also recommend this book as a teaching tool. I have seen many, many books on facial expression, but this one surpasses them all by miles. Not only because it uses actors instead of ordinary Joes, but Schatz puts them into character by giving them a situation to react to and a personality to react with. Other books on expression, simply state "sad" or "confused" or "angry". Schatz directs the actors by saying "your are a man who has been told he has inoperable cancer", for instance. The results speak for themselves. Summary: Look closely- The camera never lies. Howard Schatz has re-invented celebrity photography. The actors in this collection playfully dance through a myriad of emotions (directed by Shatz) and later wax sentimantal about their career. Any coffee table of any stature should be proud to have this book lying on it. How many times before this book can you say you have actually seen your favorite actor's dental work? Howard puts the viewer right there. Every nuance of character is beautifully recorded and documented. What an amazing way for future generations to look back upon and see how this generation of actors "Did it". Kudos to Schatz...for getting that close, and once again capturing each tender moment. Summary: BEAUUUUUUUUUTIFUL !!!!!! Love this book, just bought it at Barnes & Noble in Ft. Lauderdale. I know all these actors but have never seen them making faces like this. What this book and the equally impressive Once Upon a Time have in common is that they portray true grace, elegance and class that makes todays celebrities look like a bunch of bums. Summary: Farewell to a Bygone Era With the recent death at age eighty of Slim Aarons the end of the time of the 'beautiful people' seems at an end - at least the photo documented class of the rich and famous as seen by the chief photographer of that elite group. Slim Aarons earned his place in the sun. He was a combat photographer in WW II and after the war in which he lost his twin brother, he simply elected to not look at things that were ugly any more: saturation from the scenes of war played out its dynamic in a distant path for Aarons. He spent his fifty-odd years photographing the haunts of the wealthy and the beautiful, finding the special places, and openly introduced to the clans. He found the elegance of wealth as his subject, photographing beautiful people in their beautiful surroundings. Some would call this a shallow obsession, but his photographs became famous, e.g. Hollywood Legends, Joan Collins demurely stretched out on her bed with her pink poodle, etc. Now Slim Aarons is gone and with him has passed the time when leisure among those who had it all has been tainted by the paparazzi. Aarons kept it clean and eloquent, and we are fortunate to have this excellent volume of his works as a celebration of his talent. Christopher Sweet is the one to thank for that and he has created a photo album well worth perusing, well worth remembering when times were different. Grady Harp, June 06 Summary: Town and Country Slim Aarons really knew how to capture the jet set of a certain era, his images are so well crafted and the lucky subjects are always shown in there best light, literally and figuratively. The best picture in an array of amazing photography, and one that perfectly captures this rarified air, is the iconic picture of CeZe Guest standing by her pool, it captures all you need to know good and bad, through the prism of a beautiful woman, in a beautiful setting without a seeming care in the world, the very definition of, "To the Manor Born". Mr. Aarons captures so perfectly a life of unapolegetic jet setting opulance, and whether he means to are not he also captures the shallowness of it all, and you wonder, with all of this, are these people really any happier than the rest of us? Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Good discussion on posing techniques with creative imagery I bought this book because of the wide variety of images shown and discussed, and also because of how well the sections covered typical topics. While not a quick reference guide (like "Posing Techniques for Digital Portraits" by Jeff Smith), I enjoy owning this book because even flipping through the images prompts me to think about posing creatively while portraying my subject in the best way possible. While the images are not directly referenced in the text that I noticed, that was ok with me -- I was not looking for a cookie cutter approach on "how to pose." The table of contents is descriptive and allows you to easily find the section you are interested in. In order to get the most from this book you will need some time to sit and read through the sections -- skimming probably won't allow you get a comprehensive understanding of the techniquest described in the text. This book also reviews composition techniques (the golden mean)and discusses the camera angle in relation to the film plane (useful to remember when photographing large groups). Both of these topics provided helpful diagrams to illustrate the concepts. If you are looking for a book that gives examples of "good" and "bad" poses/shots, this one is not for you. But, if you are interested in reading about the techniques and concepts behind posing, then you will probably enjoy this book for its creative images and in-depth discussion of posing techniques. Summary: Great Images This book is a collection of some of the finest professional photography that I have seen in any book. There are many creative posing ideas throughout and the author provides some solid information on the art of portraiture. I would have given this book 5 stars if the author had asked each individual photographer why he posed his/her subject the way that they did. I think that this insight would be valuable to any photographer. Summary: One of the Best Posing Books Available The author has written what I feel is one of the finest posing books that is available anywhere. There are numerous examples of traditional and non-traditional posing from some of the finest photographers on the planet.
