Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great Week by Week This book is almost entirely week by week information, so what you get is more detailed. At the end there are small sections on feeding your baby, the postpartum weeks, and questions for your doctor. Each week has sections on Your Baby, Your Body, Your Self, Diet and Exercise, and Common Questions. It also includes a pregnancy wheel and full color photos of a fetus at different stages, which are nice bonuses. The writing is simple yet thorough and I found that the topics she chose to write about were often extremely relevent to what I was going through each week. Summary: Fantastic Book on Pregnancy - THE book to buy! I am a childbirth educator and mom to four children - now happily pregnant with number five. I was really weary of the traditional pregnancy fare ["what to expect" "your pregnancy week by week" etc] - I found them full of scariness for first time moms, often inaccurate or poorly written, and, in one case, kind of creepy with repeated mention of aborting the baby for different reasons. So, I was SO pleased this time around to find this OUTSTANDING book! The book follows the "week by week" format that I really enjoy - tracking both the baby's development and the mom's changes and questions that may arise. The book is very thorough and VERY complete. I found the author [an OB with a very respectable set of credentials]enjoyable to read. She has a conversational style that is very informative while at the same time being very reassuring. She is "straight up" without being "scary", if that makes sense. She seemed like someone I would like if I met her in real life - someone easy to talk to who knows a lot and actually cares about people. Her "voice" gave the book a very nice "feel". She is also obviously very knowlegable and did a great job including an amazing amount of information in this book. In the first part of the book there are really neat full color photographs of babies at different stages of development... really incredible. So, my advice? Skip all the other pregnancy books and buy this one - it is the only book you will need to get through your pregnancy and learn all about your growing baby! Grab yourself a couple of good books on birthing [check out "Birthing from Within" and "The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth"] and you will be all set to bring your new little person into the world! Summary: Best pregnancy book so far... When we had our first child my wife got all of the other pregnancy books that tracked the process week by week. We found many of them helpful but we still went to each doctor's visit with a long list of questions. We grabbed this book as a reference guide towards the end of my wife's second pregnancy and found it to be the most informative, direct, and comprehensive pregnancy book on the market. Every basic day to day question that we ever brought to our doctor was answered simply and directly in this book. If we were having a baby for the first time again, we would without hesitation make this our number one source of information outside of our obstetrician. The post partum section is great too. It really gives insight in to what it's like to have a newborn in the house and how to deal with the challenges of the first few weeks. Great book!!!! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: A great inspiration for any coach I am a first year basketball coach and found this book very inspirational. It makes me want to work even harder than I have and set higher standards for myself. Pat Riley is an excellent motivator and role model. I like any coach who is willing to write about his major losses in his career as well as greatest triumphs. A must read for any coach. However, he needs to write a sequel since he won his new title this summer. Go Heat! Summary: Doesn't make the playoffs. Of the over fifty books on leadership/coaching that I've read, this is by far the least useful. There are anecdotes for basketball fans, but as far as useful ideas on success and leadership there are few. It is the most useless book I've read in the coaching/leadership field (even worse than Coach K's or Dean Smith's). Summary: A Very Wise Man You go Pat!!!! Testify!!! This man speaks the truth, ya dig? True like buttah in yo popcorn and just as salty. Diggety bing! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: SLOW DELIVERY I promptly emailed the company and told them that I ordered the wrong book. I asked them if there was any way for them to stop my order. They never replied and it still too 2 weeks for me to recieve my book. When I received my book there was not receipt or return address. Summary: Counseling groups? You probably need this! Written in Jacobs's usual concise, never boring, and yet easy to read style, this informative text concerning group counseling provides all of the information a qualified counselor needs to plan, develop, and facilitate groups effectively. Jacobs's introduces group concepts within the integrative framework of Impact Therapy, a dynamic approach to counseling, incorporating theory and creative techniques, that he developed. His style, while not for everyone, provides the tools that a courageous counselor well-versed in theory can use to facilitate client movement. I have studied with Dr. Jacobs, and so quickly realized these are the very same techniques he uses to run his Theories and Techniques classes. I know they work because there is never a moment in class that feels wasted, and it is never boring. My experience has been that class is generally over long before you want it to be. Recently, I was developing a group proposal as a requirement of a group counseling class I took this summer. I had read the Corey book on groups, had the benefit of a semester's worth of lectures, had been through 40 or 50 additional publications/articles. I had all of this information and I had an idea, and yet I was struggling on exactly how to go about putting this proposal together. I had recently received the Jacobs book, but only had time to read the first couple of chapters, so I picked it up, flipped to the chapter on planning groups, and withing 20 pages my pen was flying as I scribbled notes organizing my project. Two chapters later, all I had left to do was type the formal proposal. The book is filled with practical ideas presented in an uncomplicated manner that allows for immediate practical application. I highly recommend it! Summary: I need to know what is process their teaching strategies. please you give example for teaching strategie Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent, Thourough Statics Text The greatest feature of this book is the generous use of examples throughout. For every type of problem, there is some close example that you can refer to. Even though I didn't particularly enjoy the class for which this text was assigned, I think that the book itself is a great resource, and should be recognized as so. Summary: |
| The Art of Bop Drumming (with CD)
Publisher: Warner Bros Pubns |
|
| ISBN: 089898890X List Price: $24.95 Amazon Price: $16.47 Usually ships in 24 hours |
Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Grooves This rather thin-in-size book packs a tremendous amount of practical instruction. It is intended as a thorough course in bop drumming for serious students, and will realistically take many months simply to work through at a basic level (and, as with any high-level skill, many years to actually master). It is suitable for beginning drummers who at least know the rudiments and basic technique (and who have familiarity with jazz in general), but would also be appropriate for experienced drummers wanting to learn the specifics of bop drumming. The book begins with basic time-keeping on the ride cymbal and progresses through comping and tailoring accompaniments. There is a detailed section on brushwork. While the focus naturally is on rhythm, there are also many useful pointers on tone, dynamics, composition and such. The accompanying CD is well put together and, in addition to including examples, also includes "music minus one" type tracks to play along with. The writing style is lucid and the explanations are clear. The author understands that playing drums is a lot of fun, and he seems to aim to provide a highly disciplined approach that manages to avoid taking the fun out of things -- no mean feat. This book is the next best thing to actual lessons with a great teacher. Summary: The Best Jazz Drum Book Yet This book is awesome for the beginner. I started with the first comping ideas and found myself progressing faster than all of the years of trying to play jazz. To play jazz, one must understand its theory, and this book brings it. If you are interested in drums, and jazz drums, you gotta get this book and learn how to comp! In the CD, the author plays all the ideas in the book, which helps you to learn how to read and how each exercise should sound. Shish, Boom, Bang. Amazing!! Summary: Must have for Jazzers The best intro book for jazz drumming. John Riley introduces the style, complete with information on cymbals, tuning and equipment. Regardless of experience, you will quickly pick up the skills to go as far as you want as a bop drummer. Independence, comping, brushes, solos, charts...it's all here and presented clearly. The attached cd is good to help you hear what the lessons sound like and to provide several tunes minus drums to play along with. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent Book In the last few months I've read several white hat/black hat books on security, and I must say that this one is the best. Not for the completely new to the subject, and a little too quick to explain some complex topics, but still a great book. I have only two complaints, which aren't making me give this book less than a 5: 1. There's a lot of errors in the content, and following such an advance book when you can't trust the code gets complicated. 2. There are a few chapters, particularly in section 3, where the style hasn't been neutralized, and you can absolutely tell that the book was written by 5 different people with almost no coordination. Other than that, excellent book. I'm looking forward to buying Database Hacker's Handbook, by the same editor. Summary: Koziol is great. This book is absolutely excellent. One of the best, if not the best security book I have ever read. As previously stated numerous times, it will require you have Assembly and C knowledge. If you don't know either one the book will move lightning fast and you will probably not have the ability to keep up. If you do know both, you should be able to take the book at a nice and steady speed. Aside from difficulty, the rumors that it contains syntax errors ARE true. There are a few little errors in places like this (showing a typical off-by-one error to prove that C doesn't check boundries on arrays): #include <stdio.h> int main() { int array[5] = {1,2,3,4,5}; printf("%d",array[5]; } While these errors ARE numerous and slightly annoying, the important thing to understand is that you get the general concepts they are trying to teach you. Anybody can fix the syntax to work correctly but if they don't know the logic behind the syntax it's no different than a car mechanic trying to fix a F-16 jet. I am willing to overlook the syntax and lexical errors that appear in this book and give it a 5/5. I may be too light, but I think it's an absolutely essential book that everybody should read. If you find yourself wanting to get a book, whether it be Hacking: The Art of Exploitation, Reversing: Secrets of Reverse Engineering, Rootkits: subverting the Windows kernel, or The Art of Computer Virus Research and Defense, while all excellent books (which I highly recommend you all read if this book interests you), if you have the ability to get The Shellcoders Handbook: Discovering and Exploiting Security Holes, you should. Summary: One of the best! This book is excellent. I highly recommend it for everyone from admins learning about what hackers are trying to do to their network to seasoned exploit writers. The best part of this book is that if gives a very solid foundation to anyone interested in the field. The only negative thing that I can say is that you can see a slight difference in writing style between some of the chapters, but I suppose that is to be expected with so many authors. Summary: |

Publisher: Taylor Trade Publishing |
|
| ISBN: 0878339639 List Price: $14.95 Amazon Price: $9.72 Usually ships in 24 hours |
Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Works with my young child I got a lot out of this book. I adopted a child who came from such a bad situation that opposition was an important survival tactic for her. The techniques in this book (and also in The Explosive Child and in all the Love and Logic books/tapes) have been very helpful in giving me the control in the relationship while allowing us to build a very loving attachment. Summary: Gives answers I had been feeling like someone punched me in the stomach and I hadn't been able to catch my breath....this book helped calm me and give me some additional insight. Remarkably, just having the behaviors validated was an amazing comfort. We have implemented some of the techniques. I would say between intervention through our local Family mental health facility working with our daycare, along with giving his teacher copies from sections in the book ~ my child's behavior has done a 360 and we are very pleased. It has also given me insight to the adult O.D.D. person, the 7 year old husband I often tell people I have, this book has blindsided me with helping my marriage. Summary: Should be named Raising Your Defiant Teenager Although the book claims to be about ODD and the first chapter gives a good summery of ODD the book does not go on to talk about children who suffer from ODD. Instead, he talks about defiant, rebellious teenagers. All teenagers go through a phase of rebellion, some more then others. It does not mean that they have ODD. ODD is not a phase. It is not something that develops at the age of fifteen. It is something that a child is born with and struggles with from birth. This book is written for teenagers and relates very little with children. The strategies presented are ineffective for a truly ODD child - although they probably work great on a rebellious teenager. Save your money - don't buy this book. Summary: |
