Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Book has all you need to Quick start ABAP objects learning The Book is good to learn abap quickly. Its practical approach is the key. The software that comes in CDs is self sufficient to execute the examples...no developer keys are necessary from SAP. Installation is smooth. I dont have previous versions of MS SQL server. I tried learning from Online documentation earlier...I always spend more time vs stuff learned there....This book is opposite reluts to that.. Summary: An excellent guide. For those who beggin programming with ABAP within a OO perspective, I think is the perfect guide. Of course itsn't a reference book but it's a excellent point of start ABAP having in mind an OO point of view. Summary: BUYER BEWARE In order to use the programs in this book you will need to obtain a developer key from SAP. In order to get a developer key you *must* have a SAP customer number ... if you do not already have a customer number buying this book will not get you one and so there is no way to work through the exercises illustrated. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Highly conceptual !!! This is best book I came across in terms of concepts. For every concept there is a practical example .This is best way to learn instead of reading long boring sentences. This book is meant for beginners and those who already used languages like cobol, java but learning ABAP.However this covers only basics of ABAP in reporting. It doesn't cover dialog programming which is big area. However it is best beginning for someone starting ABAP/SAP career and I highly recommend it.Please note the version is abap 3.0 which is too old (now we have 4.7).However all the examples work in 4.7 so that is not big issue. Summary: Very Good Book Within 10 days of following this book diligently i'm able to code in ABAP. I'm sure i'll improve as I go on with this book. This is a very practical book that takes you through the ABAP code step by step. Learning SAP frontend was easy enough but coding in ABAP really needs a good guide, this book is written that way. If your intention is coding in ABAP/4 (which will definitely help you understand SAP more clearly), this book is the best that i have seen in the market. Cheers to the Authors once again. Summary: Misleading and unprofessional I bought the book since I am a beginner in ABAP. Completely disappointed. * The book is OLD and fails to mention the SAP version it deals with. *It does not explain ABAP actions but rather shows and tells. How can one learn from this. For example a "logon client" is described as "... the number that the user types in the client field." No mention of the significance of clients for security and different business needs. *On top of that, the CD with the book claims to be the best instrument in teaching and showing ABAP but it does work on any system later than 95 or NT. All in all a very poor book. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: This is for experienced ABAPers only I was new to ABAP and went haywire reading this book. This book is someone who already knows ABAP/4 for atleast 6 months or so.Even people with programming background trying to learn ABAP won't get anything from the this book.Infact one gets overwhelmed.THIS IS NOT YOUR FIRST ABAP BOOK !!!! The pros of the book are 1.it covers dialog programming 2.Sapscripts which most introductory books don't cover. I would recommend getting SAMS ABAP/4 IN 21 DAYS for someone who wants to learn ABAP basics Summary: "Heavy" book Very analytical. Long sentence, long paragraph writing. It is helpfull only if you read it from the first to last page. Not a reference. More like bed time book Summary: Very faulty I'm an SAP trainer - this book has a lot of mistakes, better buy "ABAP objects" from SAP Press/Galileo Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Interview Books First, and frankly the most important thing to understand about interview questions books is that they help you save time. These books help you understand what deserves your attention and further reading, and what does not. These books help you understand what you need to learn, and what you can safely ignore. As an SAP consultant you can spend several hours each week, if not every day, learning about SAP. It is a major part of being an SAP person (especially a good one), and anything that you can do to reduce the amount of time you spend simply learning is very valuable to you. When you're spending time reading and not billing at a client, it can cost you about $100 each hour. That's expensive reading time! And so why would you even think twice about the cost of a $50 book if you think it will help you learn something valuable that you can apply at your job. Second, the SAP market is evolving. It is evolving in ways that demand SAP people understand more about the product we are working with - It's not uncommon to see requests for an "MM and SD" functional consultant these days. Also, in my consulting practice, I am focusing on SRM - but each day I am called upon to talk about MM, PP, PS, and other areas in SAP. I think that clients are less and less willing to hear, "Well that's a FICO issue - or that's an MM issue." Finally, I use these books myself. Each time I'm asked a question that stumps me, and this happens all of the time (despite what my clients may think), I turn to my own books as a reference. A couple of weeks ago someone asked me a question about a work order in PM. As an SRM consultant, I had little exposure to work orders. So I grabbed my PM Interview Questions book, looked up work orders in the index, and the EXACT question someone asked me was answered in the PM book. So the SAP Interview Questions, Answers, and Explanations series of books help save SAP people time because they show you what is important to learn, and I believe they help greatly in cross training - and so that's what these books are all about. They will save you time, and give you more knowledge about the SAP product. And the only group of people that don't want that to happen are consultants who want to keep their skills a secret! Summary: It's too expensive It's interesting, but the information is not enought for the price. I expect a deep explanation for those questions maybe some samples. Summary: Too expensive... I think it's going to be a good direction to a new beginner. But it's too expesive and too slim. I thought it might be plenty of questions and answers before I bought it. When I received this book from Amazon.com, it occured to me that I had better try an actual exam with $55 instead of buying it. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: Not enough. I attended the ABAP academy and received certification. Prior to the academy I read this book. I found it to be better than nothing but other students found the ABAP Objects book to be more current. The ABAP Object book also provides a demo R3 system. This allows the student to practice at home and be more creative. Win 2000 and MS SQL 2000 are required for the demo version. Go with ABAP Objects. Summary: Good Reference It is a good book as a reference, but not advisable as a tutorial. Summary: A good primer and resource to turn to This book is a great primer for those who have some general programming knowlege, and who are self starters. I have gone through three other similar books, and found this to be the most useful. It will get you started, but you will quickly yearn for more meat and examples, which can be found in the next book in the series. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: MOST beneficial of ALL When those where I work struggled with learning specific techniques, various on site books on SAP and ABAP were checked. This book, owned by our SAP contractor, was loaned to us. We agree with the contractor, who said it is by far the best book on SAP's R/3 Applications with ABAP. Book is out of print, but we prefer it (regardless of the older version) over all the others we have. We're buying two more copies because our SAP contractor wants his back. (This book is FAR TOO VALUABLE not to be updated with new version info and put back into print) Summary: ABAP programmer This book was used by SAP as the textbook for their workbench class when I took it in 1997. I still have and refer to it once in a while today. For a beginner who needs a good introduction to ABAP syntax it is still good. One downside is that it uses the SE38 editor instead of the new SE80 version. But that does not stop you from doing the examples. Summary: One of the worst I've ever read. After three years of ABAP consulting I don't know why I haven't burned this book. I got it in an official SAP training class, and it was written by two of the company's software engineers, but it is one of the worst examples of software writing I have ever seen. Many of the keywords of the language are not even in the index, and most of the subject matter is covered only in broad strokes, meaning that the book does not tell you how to do much of what is really available in the language, not even point out that anything else might exist. It was only by reading existing code and trying to use this book to find out what it meant that I came to realize how inadequate it is. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: Obsolete and incorrect 1. The book claims that you find every ABAP command for release 4.6. Unfortunately ABAP Objects, which was rolled out with release 4.5 and is an important part of ABAP is not described at all. 2. The commands are rather explained on a 3.0 than a 4.6 level. Syntax is often incomplete. 3. Many explanations are technically wrong. Summary: There is a better way to invest your money It could be good for project or support managers who want to have quick printed reference paper. Otherwise... By the way, current SAP release is 6.20...
