Summary: Excellent Work
After reading all of the hype about this book, I was prepared to be disappointed. Between all the reviews and articles, I thought I had read all of the revelations. I was totally wrong and I've never had a perspective like this one. I've read many, many books about the sport and have never read anything that combined management and ownership and players and the on-field aspect like this one. I think it's probably something I'll go back and read repeatedly as time goes on, like "9 Innings" and "Moneyball" and "Ball Four" combined into one.

Because people are so passionate about the Red Sox and about baseball I suspect there will be lots of different reactions to the book. Already it seems to have angered those who think they're the only "true" fans. Take the review in the Globe, where the writer (a host of a sports show) said he would prefer to remain ignorant (his words, not mine) about what actually happens in the game, or one of the reviews here written by Bill Nowlin, who has written many, many books of his own about the Red Sox (eight since 2004 alone). He makes fun of the title but doesn't say he's good friends with Rob Neyer and took part in research for Neyer's book. He also says this book made a mistake by saying Kevin Youkilis was on the World Series roster, but Youkilis was indeed on the roster, replacing Ramiro Mendoza, who'd proven himself utterly worthless in the ALCS.

I think that's to be expected when writing about baseball and the Red Sox. People feel very strongly about both, regardless of what else is going on in the world. I wasted many hours of my life reading all of the books that came out after the 2004 World Series, and this is one that finally looks at the whole history of the last six years while giving you the behind-the-scenes access and the beauty of the game. If you want to know anything about either baseball or the Red Sox this may be the best book produced in the past ten years, and may be one of the best baseball books ever.
Summary: A Chronology of the Red Sox
It was October 6, 2000, and for the first time in a generation the Red Sox were up for sale. Bought by Tom Yawkey in 1933, ownership had passed to his wife's trust in '94 after her death. Some wondered why it was now for sale - the team had just won a legislative battle for funding the construction of a new ballpark, and its value was at an all-time high. Fourteen months later it sold - to Boston outsiders, and the rumors of a "fix" (courtesy of Commissioner Bud Selig) were rampant.

The new owners proved themselves willing to work with the Boston fans, players, and writers, and at first it looked like smooth sailing. However, it seems like there were never-ending feuds - between owners, players and coach, etc. The "good news" is that things coalesced, new stars (David Ortiz and Curt Schilling) were acquired, and the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 (and are leading their division again in 2006).

Professional baseball in Boston goes back to 1871. The Boston team won 8 pennants over the next 25 years, including three straight. Another high point was acquiring Babe Ruth (age 19) from Baltimore in 1914, and his evolution into an outfielder as part of filling out the roster during WWI. The "bad news," was his being traded to the Yankees in 1919 for $100,00 - largely as a result of his becoming a difficult personality (wanted his salary doubled to $20,000), though unfounded rumors swirled about that the real reason was that the Sox' owner needed the money to finance his Broadway show "No, No, Nanette.

Then, after winning more World Series in its first two decades than any other team, the Red Sox went on to suffer a drought for the next 80+ years - despite Ted Williams (joined in 1939, and hit a home run his last at bat), though probably at least partly because the owners passed on Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays, partly when combined with lots of poor managing.
Summary: a very disappointing book
I still give it four stars, because I enjoy reading good books about the Red Sox. This is definitely better than average, hence it gets more than three stars, but it's very disappointing.

The disappointment starts with the title, not exactly original - in fact, it's practically the same title as Rob Neyer's truly enjoyable 2001 book, FEEDING THE GREEN MONSTER. Neyer attended every single Red Sox home game during the 2000 season and writes about his experiences.

Much was expected from Mnookin, given that he had unprecedented access (including his own desk at Fenway), but in the end he really offers very little in the way of either information or insights that would not be familiar to those who have followed the Red Sox the last few years.

There are also some odd errors, from saying that Kevin Youkilis was on the 2004 World Series roster (page 404), to saying that Trot Nixon was signed through 2007 (page 257), and from writing that the Red Sox were known as the Pilgrims in 1903 (page 23.) None of those things are true.

There were also a few spelling errors indicating insufficient proofreading (I was amused at the notion on page 159 that baseball "consists of a discreet series of interactions between two individual combatants.")

Then there was the idea that one of Tom Yawkey's "main business interests" was running a house of prostitution in South Carolina. For a man running businesses doing tens of millions of dollars annually, that must have been one active house!

Seriously, though, the book presents a good updating of recent Red Sox history during the Henry/Werner/Lucchino period, up into the early days of the 2006 campaign. Maybe it is the mark of how thoroughly the Boston media masticates all things Red Sox, but there is very little of anything at all new here. To repeat myself, little new in the way of facts and nothing really surprising or insightful in the way of analysis.

I suspect that some of those working in the ranks of the Red Sox would find other things that really disturbed them, but I am in no position to comment.

There is room on my shelves for straightforward Red Sox books and this one (despite the title that's so similar to Rob Neyer's) is welcome there. I just wish I could give it a more enthusiastic review.

Summary: Who is this Dr. Phil Guy?
Psychotherapy and counseling are extremely precious to me. The help of trusting and loving professionals within these fields empowered me to pick myself up from the depths of despair and become a contributor to the human race. Therapy is also my life, my career, and my unique and passionate purpose in this Universe. It is what I have been called to do and I intend on doing it to the best of my ability. Thus, when I see someone misrepresenting therapy it is my first inclination to do my part to point it out and hopefully bring some resolution to the issue. This is the main purpose of this short, but vital article. My hope is to point out the distortion of therapy that I observed and reveal the truth. This article is not in any way intended to put someone down or cause any conflict; it is simply an expression of truth.
Personally I am not an avid television viewer, however as I was reading a few nights ago I hear a voice, a seemingly judgmental, sarcastic, and somewhat demeaning tone that sent shivers down my spine while at the same time causing me to feel nauseous. It just so happens that my wife was watching the Dr. Phil Show who was supposedly conducting a therapy session in front of the world. I am not very knowledgeable about Dr. Phil, his background, certainly am not a frequent viewer of his "Therapy" show, haven't read his best selling books, however I certainly know that he is not conducting what I know therapy to be.
Therapy is not sarcastic, it's empathetic and compassionate. It's definitely not judgmental; it consists of unconditional positive regard for the participant. It's also not demeaning in nature, it's based on an equal relationship of respect and honesty between two human beings on the journey of life. A therapist is not an actor or a celebrity with the purpose of entertaining others for ratings.
I personally despise making judgments, but when I hear a professional, doctorate level therapist judging human beings based on their job, being on welfare, categorizing people as "normal" and "abnormal", I must take a firm stand and express my concern. Dr. Phil is not the type of therapist that the world needs as a role model. I'm sure he's a wonderful man, a caring soul, and a great human being, however from what I observed I do not believe he is a good therapist.
Therapy is precious and necessary to help transform this struggling Universe. It's about life and death, not ratings, money, or fame.
It's important to always be cognizant of the fact that therapists are people desiring to help other people. They are not idols to be worshipped, Gods to be prayed to, or movie stars to be entertained by. Therapists are special people with a unique purpose to fulfill in this world.
Lets applause ourselves and our personal growth as human beings, rather than applauding and feeding the ego of Dr. Phil and whoever comes next.

For those who ask what is therapy? Here is my answer.

Therapy is -
a journey growth between two human beings;
confidential;
based on honesty between both individuals;
a process of taking complete responsibility for one's thoughts, feelings,
and behaviors;
non-judgmental;
a process of continuous growth;
based on a strong relationship between both individuals;
an educational experience that focuses on specific learning in the
therapeutic environment in order for this learning to be applied in
everyday life;
will bring out the limitless human potential hidden inside;
requires commitment and dedication between both individuals;
will provide compassion, hope, and support along the journey of life;
will help you become the human being you were meant to be;
consists of a human relationship not manipulation of psychological
techniques;
Above all Therapy is a GIFT!

Summary: My Happy Ending
I personally have fallen in love with this book. Dr. Phil is a genius beyond compare. Even Oprah failed to find me the love of my life. We are now living together and have a healthy sex life.
I never would have known that my own preteen cousin would be the perfect match for me.
Summary: Excellent, sound and valuable!
I watch Dr. Phil's show only from time to time, so I am not his "fan". Anyway, I keep an eye on books which may further improve my marriage and keep love as passionate and live as possible. I thoroughly read this book and it is an enjoyable and easy to understand read. Dr. Phil's advice is sound (after all he is a man and gets straight to the point). I believe that we all need more books on relationships written by men because they offer additional and very valuable perspective.

I am sure that singles will be pleased to read "Bag 'em, tag 'em and take 'em home". The system looks sound and doable. I personally enjoyed his refreshing ideas to spice up an already established relationship. He has a unique and very charming approach to love, romance and blissful relationship. I absolutely agree that respecting and loving yourself is the first and most important step in respecting and loving someone else. So his book will empower you very well if you need encouragement. He shares that men more or less are interested in (high quality) sex. I guess it is not a big surprise. However, it seems that being very good in bed is more or less crucial in order to manage with the competition and keep 'em satisfied. That's why in addition to his excellent book, I highly recommend scientist Ritz' bestseller "Scientificlly guaranteed multi-orgasms and ultimate sex", which turned our sexual life into outstanding.

Summary: Low Profits
I want to start out by saying I have read lots of trading books and I am a full time commodity trader. So when I bought this book years ago I was interested in running some tests on the computer in order to really tell if the systems, there are aproximately 10 - 12, recomended in this book were profitable or not. Most of the systems in this book are tough to trade without a computer. I actually paid for the systems in the book and ran tests through my trading software and found out they were indeed profitable. But the average profits were very small, from what I remember under $100 a trade.Also they were just around 50% accurate. Most people have a hard time trading something that will only make money 50% of the time. I know I do. But the real kicker is the low profits. Trading for less then $100 is not what I would call worth risking my money for. If you are hoping to find some good trading systems in this book to use you now know what to expect. You might be able to get some ideas from this book to use in some other systems, I don't know. I personally didn't find it very useful. I also didn't like that there were no published tests in the book to show whether or not the systems in the book were profitable, kind of buyer beware. Before doing any trading you have to know whether or not your system is going to make money otherwise it is just a shot in the dark and that is not what trading is about. I don't know whether the other reviewers actually spent money running tests on the systems in this book or not. All I know is that I did and can only make a judgement by what the computer told me. I am only writing this to be of benefit to others who like me are wanting to find value in what they read. There are much better books out there in my opinion that will help traders a lot more for a lot less money. Linda Raschke is a supertrader and definitely knows what she is doing. But I think the general population would have a hard time making profits from this book. Go to Linda Raschke's website and take a look at the books she recommends before you buy this one, I think you will find it interesting. My advice, keep looking because if I had of known then what I know now I would not have bought this book.
Summary: Overpriced
These authors are obviously writing books for the pure sake of making money. i mean every writer should earn $ for their time and efforts putting materials together into a book, but there are some authors like Laurence A. Connors & the Michael something guy (who has a booklet selling for $100) publish books just for making money, their intention of writing isn't to share ideas or discuss subject matters, they just wanna write something and sell at some expensive prices.

Why the heck books like this would sell for so much?
Summary: Good book, but to much technical stuff can make you slow
I think this book is good since it demonstrates pattern techniques to approach stocks as a swing trader.

However, to make it as a Day trader you will need more practical trading strategies especially if you are a beginner.

Day trading keeps getting competitive and the stock market doesn't care if you are experienced or a newbie stock trader. The rules and the opportunities are the same, so either youre going to make money or you are going to lose it in favor of the more seasoned ones.

As a day trader your homework is all about studying and testing different market strategies that will help you take advantage of stocks and at the same time protect your investments. Just always keep in mind that a good strategy is SIMPLE and practical.

Frankly the worst thing that can happen to a beginner day trader is to get information overload. Complicated technical systems will always make you SLOW in your decision making process or confuse you from the start.

There are some very good sites on the web where you can access practical trading strategies that are easy to implement. One of those sites is Stress Free Traders ( StressFreeTraders com)

They focus on short term day trading methodologies that can help you identify and handle stocks with momentum while reducing your risk.

All in all, day trading is all about picking the best stock opportunities and following your buy and sell signals with ease and simplicity. Once you learn to master your trading decisions, you can aspire to produce consistent profitable results.

Summary: Too many odd spices and ingredients
The recipes in this book look really good. It is a beautiful book. However, too many require unusual spices and ingredients for the ordinary cook. On the other hand, some of the recipes do use everyday ingredients.

Many of the recipes also require the use of a blender or food processor. That involves extra steps and cleanup.

Also, I was under the impression that whole wheat pastas had a lower GI index than regular pastas, and she doesn't use these in her recipes.

What I needed was a low GI cookbook with ordinary ingredients and simple recipes.
Summary: The best diet concept

This is the best book I found after the following Atkins, Weight Watchers and The Zone diet.
I don't have to starve now and I can eat all green food list food as far as I feel satisfied. Buy Lose weight by Rick Gallop book for complete reference with the above recipe book.

Summary: Nutritional Info Included - YAY!
I liked this book for many reasons, and one of them is that it provides nutritional info for each recipe -- including, fat, carbs, protein, fiber and sodium! With so many people having other nutritional interests in addition to GI rating, this is a big plus!
It also provides color photos of almost every recipe, which I find very helpful as well. I look forward to the "Forthcoming" titles that are listed inside. If they are anything like this one, I will buy them as well.

Summary: Good start, now more info
This book is easily worth the price as just knowing the dirtiest items in a hospital is life-saving. Anyone with experience in a hospital will know that too patients die of infections that are only related to your stay in the hospital.

I'd prefer that the authors delete the stupid jokes and maintain the extensive listings on-line. The jokes actually get in the way of information.

Summary: It's better for me if you don't buy this book!
I bought this based on the authors' previous work, "YOU: The Owner's Manual...," and their work in Reader's Digest. This is a great book that provides lots of "insider secrets" to getting better care from your health-care professionals, and it's not limited to hospital stays. The authors write in a very conversational tone and don't "talk down" to the reader. They also don't come across as thinking they are better than the reader because they are doctors. I found some real jewels in this book, so please don't buy it. The fewer people who know and apply the information provided in this book, the better it is for the rest of us. If everyone started doing what these guys say to do, it wouldn't give anyone the inside track!
Summary: Wonderful!
Even though I already knew a lot of what was in this book, I still had a lot to learn.
I just spent a few months in and out of the hospital and I wish I had this book with me. It is an excellent read for someone who is just entering the "maze" of the medical community. If you have any chronic conditions, this book is a must have. You'll find yourself lending it out as well!

Summary: Allowances, Jobs, and Other Money Issues Parents Need to Address
Too many children think their parents have an endless supply of money for them to tap into. When denied a purchase, they think the parent is being mean. Setting up a structure and helping your child understand and respect money is a chore, but it will pay off in the long run.
I like that the author advises against credit cards for teens and that she gives advice for dealing with adult children returning home.
Here's what is covered in the book:
Quiz: Test Your Money Smarts
Chapter 1: The Perils of Being an Expert [or The Perils of Giving Advice, or something else]
Chapter 2: A Kid's-Eye View of Money
Chapter 3: The Adman Cometh
Chapter 4: The Apple Doesn't Fall Far from the Tree
Chapter 5: Small Change: The Preschool Years
Chapter 6: Surviving with 'Tweens
Chapter 7: Why Is Money Green?
Chapter 8: Allowances: A Hands-On Experience
Chapter 9: Penny Wise: Kids & Saving
Chapter 10: Your Kid, the Investment Guru
Chapter 11: Of Lawnmowing & Milkshake Stands
Chapter 12: Teens: The Early Years
Chapter 13: To Work or Not to Work?
Chapter 14: Off to College & On Their Own (Sort of)
Chapter 15: Giving & Getting with Grace & Gratitude
Chapter 16: Lost Wallets & Other Sticky Situations
Chapter 17: Money-Smart Grandparents
Chapter 18: Mission Nearly Accomplished
Chpater 19: They're Back. Now What?

Summary: What a parent needs to know to help their kids understand money
With each generation the children seem to have more money available to them than their parents. With this should come responsibility and learning how to spend or save wisely. The problem is that most just learn to spend as soon as they get it, get it by begging parents or an allowance with no responsibilities involved or similar. Enter Janet Bodnar, deputy-editor of Kiplinger's Personal Finance, mother of three, and writer of the Money Smart Kids column in Kiplinger Magazine. This is not a collection of hard and fast rules to force good finance habits onto kids but a framework within which parents can use good common sense to handle any situation. The book starts with a quiz to test your money smarts. This quiz is excellent and presents most of the potential situations you are likely to encounter with children and money. The author even includes examples of questions kids ask and how to answer them. One of the insightful sections is one on how kids think about money and how to deal with these concepts from preschool to teenager. Ms. Bodnar even includes a fascinating chapter on questions and answers about money's history, composition, and dozens of other miscellaneous facts. Prepare your children to know how to deal with money when they are grown. Raising Money Smart Kids is highly recommended.

Summary: Excellent and very helpful during a relationship breakup
It has happened 3 times so far to feel very depressed for weeks because of inappropriate men. I am very happy that Gregg wrote this continuation of He's Not that Into You. The advice, examples, other people's stories are all very helpful to feel better and calm down. Women tend to get very upset and emotionally stuck in thoughts about him after the breakup but after all life continues as Gregg proves.

I want to support him that it is worth to keep an eye on whether he is appropriate for you. If he is NOT then break up and move on towards a better one. I am going out with a wonderful guy now who "passed" all the tests so far. That's why I decided to buy and the bestseller "Scientifcally guaranteed male multi-orgasms and ultimate sex" which helped us to change 2 gears in bed. I highly recommend both books!
Summary: Please...don't...call...me...a...Superfox
Firstly, I hate being referred to constantly (even in a book) as a Superfox or Hot Pants or Happy Hour or one of the million other tedious and vaguely patronising nouns Greg and Amiira use to describe their readers. The last time I checked, I hadn't entered a time warp and woken up back at primary school.

Secondly, do people really have lives like the ones described in this book? Do they really break up with someone and then harass them with drunken phone calls at 3am or sleep with their best friend for revenge or threaten new lovers via Instant Messaging? It is vaguely alarming that we live in a society where it is seen as harmless - and even acceptable / understandable - to act like a complete nutcase.

Overall, I didn't enjoy this book (thankfully borrowed from the library). Possibly it is because my sense of humour is slanted towards the dry English style, rather than the goofy, zany type of humour in this book. If you don't mind being called a `Superfox' and are tempted to rip your ex-boyfriend's clothes to shreds when he dumps you or harass him via e-mail and instant messages, then this might be the perfect book for you.

Summary: DATING MINIMUM REQUIRED READING
If you have already launched yourself into the outer world of dating without any navigation map, do not despair! This book and 2 others by the author, Greg Behrendt, will be all you need to reach your destination! You will laugh, you will cry, and you just may end up married after all! In any case, reading this may bring the clarity that has been so missing in your head & heart! This book is one of the greatest gifts that you can give yourself or to that really messed up best friend of yours!

Those two others that I mentioned:
He's Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys
He's Just Not That Into You : Your Daily Wake-up Call

And if you are truly serious, add:
Date or Soul Mate by Neil Clark Warren, PhD
