Let me count the ways ... - Which picture is it that relates to the instruction I just read? - And in that murky photo, which one of the shadowy images is the part taht I need to replace or adjust? - Some parts just aren't acknowledged to exist (Try to find any mention of the throttle presure cable for an '88 auto trans. Then try to find any mention of how it should be adjusted.) - Some repairs reference two systems (If you need to repair the AAP; is that the diaphragm with spring accessed from the outside of the carburetor, or is it the ball/spring/ball found in the carb's innards? They're both labeled AAP.) Don't waste your money. Summary: Very Bad Book for Ordinary Car User. My level: a Berkeley Graduate Student(IQ not bad), NEVER repair car before. I need to turn up the "idle speed" of my 88 Corolla, so go to book store to browse this book. 1. the book print in Black and White, autual photos are really in bad quality: especially for the engine parts: half of one picture is black, How the user tell what is what!! 2. for the drawing pictures only focus in detail parts, Not show where this part locate! If I can not locate the part, how can I adjust the parts, let along disassemble and asssemble! 3. To help myself, I find "Tercel" and "Camery" Repair Manual of the "Chilton's" to take a look, but all these books are the same layout, printing quality and illustration. So Do Not help at all. 4. They should offer a Master Map of the Engine System, Then divide the Master Map into several subpart by engine functions, then go even detail of each parts, but the book is not!! 5. As for my own experience of use this book: I assembles "TAMIYA Plastic Model - motorcycle, WWII Tank", I have to use the "graphic identification" skill of my eyes, try to guess and locate the engine parts from different chapters of the book, and combine the illustration together and final find out "idle mixture adjust screw" ONLY ONE SCREW! NEDDLE IN HAY! under the "Carburetor" use total 3-4 hours. 6. I keep notes and Not buy the book from bookstore. 7. If you are novice of the car, go to B&N or Boulders take a look of the book by yourself, it is waste of money! Summary: Helpful for the price I own both the Haynes and the Chilton books. I need one to fill in the blanks left by the other. If I had to use just one, it would probably be the Haynes. The Chilton would still be fine for most shadetree work. Neither have complete or even adequate wiring diagrams or in-depth info for transmissions,A/C,or troubleshooting. I'll try to return it!!!! One star is way too much for this book. I got the newest version three days ago and it was like getting a repair manual for a toy. I've got a Camry 91 with a v6 engine and this book had virtually nothing I could use. Not even a decent set of diagrams and instructions to replace the spark plugs...!!!! Forget about anything else like a CV boot replacement or a timing belt replacement. I hope the publisher sees my review. Summary: AWFUL! Do not buy this book!!!!!! This must be the most useless book I have every seen on auto maintenance and repair. If you're looking for any info on your Camry, look elsewhere. Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: This book DOES cover the AllTrac models While not the best (compared to the Factory Manual, aka "BGB" (Big Green Book)), it is better than the Haynes manual for the ST16x and ST18x celica models because it covers all the models, including the rare AllTrac (AWD Turbo) models, the ST165 and ST185. The Haynes covers the FWD Celicas only. This is an important point to make, as I have an AllTrac and the Haynes does not help me at all. Also, this book has a lot more information than the Haynes-- even the thickness (page numbers) comparison should tell you that. For a maintenance/DIY manual, this is something you want to have, especially considering that the next best manual is the official factory manual (BGB) which will cost you about $100 and possible waiting for special order from the dealer. Summary: Good manual Has all the info I need, haven't found any inaccuracies yet. Some information is not TOO easy to find but it's hard to think of things that are NOT covered. This book was highly recommended to me by the head of the repair dept. at my local Toyota dealership as THE book to have as permanent reference for my 1975 20R engine. Summary: well done This is a very good book for beginners just learning how to maintain their trucks. Some criticize it as too wordy, which is true, but it does provide insight as to why you're doing the maintenance and what to expect when things go wrong. It's a good complement to the factory repair manuals. It's good for other rigs, too. Summary: This has similar highlights and flaws as Muir's other books. Larry Owens has written a readable and useful primer on Toyota truck auto maintenance, very much in the spirit of Muir's "Compleat Idiot's" guide to VW Bug maintenance. Unfortunately it also has the same flaws: no wiring diagrams, and the Procedure:Step format can be confusing, especially when trying to cover many different vehicles and years. I just finished a major suspension rebuild on my Toyota truck. I used the Chiltons for reference, which was a huge mistake. Most of the procedures were poorly written, confusing, and/or wrong. Many critical torque specifications were incorrect to the point of being dangerous or destructive.
