Summary: Cesar's Way is Nature's Way
Aside from providing me with a better understanding of my dogs, this book also teaches some great lessons on leadership and how nature wires it into dogs and other animals. The book is actually an easy read and is written in a way that you can almost hear Cesar talking. I suppose that's because I bought it along with the DVD of the entire first season of Dog Whisperer, another great buy!
Summary: Too much exercise
Overall the book was helpful and interesting but there was too much about Cesar himself.A little background is nice but he became redundant and boring. I also feel I'm missing something. I understand calm assertive and dominence and the need for exercise but I'm not having dramatic results with it. My food reward method seems to be working better with fear aggression, but overall it is informative and has valid suggestions so I would recommend it.
Summary: Worth Reading
I liked this book. I have three dachshunds -- they're easily out-of-control when people come to our door! This book explains dogs' point of view; compares it to human thinking. It's also full of interesting stories from Cesar's varied experiences.

I found it to be good training for my approach towards my dogs' behaviors, and gaining some control. And now I understand them more fully.

Summary: I love this book!
I've had this book on my shelf for 4 years and have decided to use this book, along with Reading Strategies that work by Laura Robb to enhance my reader's workshop with my third graders. You have to own this book because it gives great teaching tips on how to teach comprehension. My favorite part are the lists at the back of the book which have book to help teach a strategy and ideas on how to teach response (discussion, writing, etc)using each strategy.
Summary: Great Practical Resource
This book provides lesson plans to use with specific trade books to model comprehension strategies with your students. The authors are staff developers who model the gradual release of responsibility format with students of different grade levels. I definately recommend the appendix which sorts books by topic and strategy.
Summary: Great Resource
I have used the strategies in this book with my special education students, and they have been effective. This book gave me six strategies, clearly explained, with lots of supporting resources outlined. I wish I would have been assigned this book in my teacher preparation program.

Summary: A Must Read for any...
This is a must read for all teachers, pastors, doctors, lawyers, who deal with various social levels and just about anyone else who feels they can't understand why poor people are poor and stay that way generation after generation.
It is a eye opening, mind provoking look as to why generations of people never reach their piece of the pie, and are seemingly content that way.
I will go so far as to say that if this were manditory reading for everyone, that this world might just be a better place to be.
A very easy and wonderful read!
Summary: A SOCIOLOGICAL UNDERSTANDING OF POVERTY AND HOW TO GET OUT OF IT
Economists believe that poverty is an economic phenomenon, that when an economy grows, people will simply be lifted out of poverty. Though that is true to a certain extent, this book convinced me (an economist) that there is more to it than simple economist and income.

According to the book, there are certain characteristics of people in lower income environments that make them (1) quite able to endure the hardships and (2) quite unable to shift mindsets and move to middle class. The book also demonstrates the mindset and the basic knowledge that those in poverty, in middle class and in upper class have.

There are important characteristics of people in lower class environments, including: the way the tell stories in roundabout ways, the lack of a support system or role models, the lack of recognition of a path to wealth, among others. There are important ways in which, for example, we should change our mindset and way of talking if we are to have a positive influence on the poor.

This book is a very good intro to the recognition of social differences between economic classes and the difficulties of mobility among classes. It provides a path for the priviledged to help the underpriviledged in more effective ways than just giving them money.
Summary: Would you survive?
I teach in the inner city, and a fellow teacher recommended this book after hearing me say that I didn't understand why the children in my class would never stop talking. Well, now I know why they talk constantly--and I might even have some idea of what to do about it. My favorite part of the book were the scenarios, which paint a grim picture of life in poverty, but aren't too far removed from what I see my students experiencing. It was interesting to see how the people in the scenarios would react, and compare it to the way that I would handle myself. I also enjoyed the "Would you survive?" quizzes. As suspected, I would not survive in poverty or wealth. Nope, firmly middle class, not a doubt.
An interesting read for people who work with the poor or have an interest in class structure.

Summary: Good data but needs more specific examples
I was elected to my local board of education and we recently received a credible complaint from a parent that harassment of her son was being overlooked by school administrators. Accordingly, I felt obliged to read up on the issue of bullying. This book sets forth both the problem and the recommended solutions. Prof. Olweus is Norwegian and his studies primarily involve Scandinavian schools. Accordingly, questions came to my mind such as "Is Norway a more homogenious society than the United States? If so, are there any differences in both the problem and the solutions in a more ethnically heterogeneous society?" I don't know the answers but, the reader should keep these issues in mind when reading this book.

Prof. Olweus describes the problem and he sets forth well organized solutions to the problem which require involvement of teachers, administrators and parents, and further require communication with all students, even those who are neither bullies nor victims. The one problem I have with the book is that there are very few case histories and specific examples given. The book proposes solutions but does not provide a case history in which the specific solution was successfully applied to the problem at hand. Reliable data and sound recommendations are important but a few specific examples of how these recommendations worked would be helpful. For example, Olweus recommends that parents of a bully apply sanctions if the bullying behavior does not improve. He states, "The consequence should be associated with some degree of discomfort or unpleasantness, but corporal punishment must not be used." OK, fine; but what are specific examples of "discomfor or unpleasantness?" Where are the case histories giving examples? Without these, the book does not provide as fulfilling reading as it otherwise might. This book is well worth reading and I recommend it with the reservations expressed above.

Summary: This book is the foundation of modern bullying prevention!
This clear, brief, and practical book is based on extensive research and outlines an intervention to prevent bullying. Dr. Olweus's work has become the standard approach to bullying prevention, reflected in such programs as the University of Colorado "Blueprints for Violence Prevention" project ... As a counselor and trainer specializing in bullying prevention, I find this book indispensable, and recommend it highly.

Summary: Tips from "Dr" Gray
I don't understand how Mr. Gray keeps on putting the initials PhD on his book covers. As most everyone knows by now, his PhD came from Columbia Pacific University which was a diploma mill. Hence, his book is about as void of substance as the degree he puts out on the cover. His views on understanding human nature is overly simplistic and trite. Between him and Dr. Phil, I'll have to go with the latter. At least Dr. Phil is a licensed clinical psychologist who got his PhD degree from a legitimate university (University of North Texas).
Summary: Please find a better book...
It grieves me that this book is among the bestsellers. I red it and I red other books devoted to the same or similar subject. I would strongly recommend you to find other, high quality replacement - for example books by John Gottman, or if you wish to dig deeper, I suggest R. Wright - The Moral Animal. I must admit I am very demanding as to the quality of books I read, but they shape our thoughts and deeds and I do not let wrong/twisted ideas have influence on me. I am not alone in this opinion on Mr. Gray's books...just as an example please try to search for 'The Rebuttal From Uranus' text on Internet, or have a look at excellent 'Authoritative Guide to Self-help Resources in Mental Health' by Norcross et al. Kind regards, Mario.
Summary: A Best guide for family relationship
Once upon a time Martians and Venusians met, fell in love, and had happy relationships together because they respected and accepted their differences. Then they came to Earth and amnesia set in they forgot they were from different planets. Based on years of successful counseling of couples and individuals, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus has helped millions of couples transform their relationships. Now viewed as a modern classic, this phenomenal book has helped men and women realize how different they really are and how to communicate their needs in such a way that conflict doesn't arise and intimacy is given every chance to grow.

Summary: sent wrong book
they did not specify that it was the study guide instead of the actual book I needed.
Summary: Great book!
Beautiful book! The art pictures are great! I am learning alot!
Summary: A great start for beginner art enthusiasts
I went to a multimedia school where I took a class on the fundamentals of art & design. Understanding Art was the required text book. Little would I know that I would still be talking about Understanding Art and recommending it for years after that class! (Just don't let my teacher know that!)

The book takes you throughout the history of art, starting from the earliest forms, throughout the middle ages, native traditional art, to the renaissance, to post modernism, to surrealism, to art deco, bauhaus, dada, and everything else. There isn't a form of art that isn't covered and illustrated, which is extremely beneficial, as you truly do learn how art forms evolved throughout the years. Another benefit to this book is that it covers the different medias in art - sculpture, paintings, print, masks, archetecture, and more.

The photographs of the artwork are present throughout the book, and the text gives you insight and background knowledge of each art era that you wouldn't otherwise see. One might usually associate art history text as boring and monotonous, but this is not the case. The text is informative and exciting to read all at the same time.

It's a great book for someone who's starting out in art history, but even long-time art fans will enjoy it too.
