Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: AMAZING Book!!!!! This book was definitely one of the best I've ever read!! I just couldn't put it down. Nightmare Academy was much different from the first book in the series, Hangman's Curse, in that this time, the Springfield twins had no backdoor. No way to escape if things got rough. They also had no clue where they were. But, as always, the kids used their talents and devotion to God to prevail. I loved how the twins stood up for each other countless times in this book, and also how they wouldn't let anything shake their faith. I would recommend this book to anyone!! It was FANTASTIC! Summary: Frank Peretti's Creepiest Book Yet (IMO) This book was a difficult one for me to read. Usually, I can sail through a Frank Peretti novel in one sitting, but this one I had to take in small doses because it had my adrenaline going so much. I think the reason it creeped me out so badly is because, unlike most of his other novels, which have somewhat of a science fiction element to them, this one is so much more in the realm of not only plausibility, but probability. (I have not read Hangman's Curse, so I can't compare it to that.) It would not surprise me one bit to find out that places like the Knight-Moore Academy actually exist, and I find that very scary. It is chilling for me to know that there are many people who really do believe the way the faculty at the Knight-Moore Academy does, and that is the reason we are seeing the current breakdown in our society. I believe this book is an eye-opener and a must-read for everyone. Summary: A Real Page-turner !!! This book is an awesome book. I don't want to give away the whole story but here is a little bit of it. This book is about two Christian kids and their parents struggle to discover the truth to the mysterious actions of a once was lost but now and found boy named Alvin Rogers. This is the second mission of the Vertias Project team. The first project was "Hangman's Curse". They track Alvin to a shelter that disappears and then end up at a place called Knight Moore Academy or as Alvin calls it "Nightmare Academy". They soon discover that the "mission" is going to be harder than they thought when the whole academy believes that there is no truth. I thought this was an awesome book because I love mystery books. I also thought it was awesome because it really keeps you at the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. This book also describes of what life would some what be like if no one believes that there was such a thing as truth. Frank Peretti is descriptive with the way he writes so you know what exactly what happens and when it happens. If you like mysteries you should read this book. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: 3 stars *** Veritas, a forum begun at Harvard that has since its inception spread across the country, is designed to help people search for the truth in a relativistic age. The founder of it and the author of this book explores her own search for ways to apply that truth in daily life. As she goes across the country helping Veritas be established in new locations, she learns new things that are documented herein. Though the writing is beautiful, it tends to ramble, and in the end, lacks focus. *** Summary: A Seed that Bore Much Fruit "The Word of God falls like a seed on our heart, but sometimes He must break our heart for the seed to fall in and grow." Kelley Monroe Kullberg's reference to a quote by Madeleine L'Engle is a symbol for Kullberg's life. In an honest, but humble fashion, Kullberg recounts the miracle of how God used her to help establish the Veritas Forum on campuses across America. This Christ-centered breakthrough into the minds of some of America's leading scholars was not without its price. An unfulfilled love, deep questioning, a deferred family were part of the struggles Kullberg endured. Yet she recounts these things not in a maudlin or self-promoting fashion, but simply as part of the work of God. Her refreshing spititual autobiography shows that God is interested in the heart even as He seeks to shape the mind. I am glad that Kullberg was willing to endure the breaking of her heart and to write about it so beautifully. I think the seeds God planted there will bear fruit for years to come. Summary: Beyond critique to hope & joy This picks up where all the critiques leave off -- the book is a treasure hunt into a world of truth, beauty, and goodness, against all odds. A warm and enthusiastic circle of creative young friends changing the world. Veritas welcomes us into the story. Thanks to the Author! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Hangman's Curse I thought the book Hangman's Curse was amazing! It was a "keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat" type of book. Just when you thought you knew what was going on, who did it, the book totally flipped. The book had a real good moral, too. That you should treat people all the same. Nobody likes to be teased and this book was an example of someone's attempt to eliminate the teasers, permanantly. The book kinda left you with a sense of all the "pieces of the puzzle" fitting back into place. Overall, I thought this book was very good and a must read. Summary: Good tale. Frank Peretti is a master story-teller....He has never failed to please young and old. Everyone from my 9 yr old grandson,my 19 yr son......and yes ,even this 57 yr old mother loves to read Perreti. This one did not disappoint.......and I think it is never too early to stress to young people that "Bullying " of any kind is unacceptable. It is time that adults stop turning a blind eye to it. Get the book ...read it ....you will be impressed. Summary: Frank Peretti Frank Peretti is a pretty good author. I love this book, the Hangman's Curse--and I own two copies of it (one being the movie version and one being the version listed here). I also like the book Nightmare Academy, which I have read three times and own. Frank Peretti is a wonderful author mostly because of his mysterious plots and wonderful writing. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: This is a retitled work from 1997, then called " Veritas " reviewers need to recognize this retitling of an older work Summary: Victor Carl and the Case of the Pickle Heiress William Lashner has written a pretty good series of books featuring Victor Carl, a Philadelphia lawyer whose desire to be utterly mercenary is often impeded by a weak but definitely present set of ethics. Bitter Truth is the second book in the series, and even if not Lashner at his best, it is still a quite enjoyable book. As this novel starts, Victor is subsisting primarily on his fees as a reluctant mob lawyer. While a nice source of income, this role also interferes with his natural sense of self-preservation. He is retained by Caroline Shaw, heir to the Reddman Pickle Empire which is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Caroline wants Victor to look into the death of her sister; although ruled a suicide, Caroline suspects mob involvement, hence her hiring of Victor. Although she is paying him a nice $10,000 fee, Victor smells much greater money, the sort that can allow him to quit lawyering and retire to some South Seas island. Of course, such great wealth would not be easy to come by, and Victor soon finds himself in a boatload of trouble. He becomes involved with a strange little cult which is not above violence to stop Victor's investigation; more seriously, he also gets entangled in a mob war. But the key problems come from the Reddman/Shaw family itself, a clan with a closet full of skeletons. Although fabulously wealthy, the family seems to exist under a curse of death and insanity. The mansion that they are centered around is a practically Gothic haunted house; despite their vast funds, the house is in disrepair and even the food that is served is unpleasant. To earn his money, Victor will need to sort out the family secrets and unearth crimes that date back a century. As mentioned previously, this is not Lashner's best book, but it is good. There is some intangible quality that seems to be missing from this one that prevents me from giving it a full five stars. As someone who has read the four Victor Carl books completely out of order (3, 1, 4, 2), I can confidently say that they don't need to be read in sequence and each stands alone, so if you want to start reading Lashner, this may be as good a place as any. Summary: Being a newbie reader of Lashner, I did not know what to expect What I found was a very pleasant surprise. Lashner weaves and winds plots, characters and dialogue in a way that makes you late for the train, miss meetings and forget to eat. This book is hard to put down. Nothing contrived, thoroughly entertaining, nicely edited and put together. He manages to describe a scene without making it forced or boring. Just the right amount of context and atmosphere, seasoned with interesting characters. Reading this book will force me to the bookstore to search out his other works. That is saying a lot, even for a bookhog like me. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Well structered, provocative reference work A well researched reference, providing solid basis of evaluating most issues surrounding clusters and the supporting/participating infrastructure. Naturally some of the more complex subjects are not always discussed in as much detail as you would like - but that was not the purpose of the book. Good value for money, highlighting most issues. Summary: Book for the beginners I felt this book was more like a beginners guide to Cluster Concepts and Veritas products. You would be disappointed like me if you are in quest for any greater knowledge on configuration of Veritas / Oracle Clusters or any tech details. It would served better if this book was titled CLUSTER IN SEARCH OF STOARGE. I guess author would agree with me on this. Summary: THE Clusters Book If you've got to figure out how to get clusters to work together to run your SAN more cheaply and with plenty of high availability like I do, this book is for you. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Wow! Great Story! The Veritas Conflict is a story about the spiritual struggles college life brings. Being a college student myself, I found it very easy to relate to the characters. I was delighted to see my own struggles adressed in this fictional work. I especially liked houw Feldhahn did not try to 'beat around the bush' about touchy issues like abortion and homosexuality. She had her characters stand firm on Gods truth and not wavier, yet still show love and compassion. I hope she countinues to write Christian Fantasy, she could easily be a Christian J.K. Rowling Summary: Veritas, Christo et Ecclesiae "Veritas, Christo et Ecclesiae" means "Truth for Christ and the Church". Believe it or not it was the original motto of none other than Harvard University. In this novelization, we look behind the scenes and through the lens of two sides of a story involving the change of Harvard into a secular University, and the foundational views held today. The story is of Claire Rivers, a freshman at Harvard. Unknowingly she is to become involved in the middle of a battle for the spirituality of Harvard University. The other look we get is from the perspective of the spiritual battle waging behind the scenes between good and evil, angels and demons. The book starts with the beginning of this battle which takes place some two hundred years ago, and sets the foundation for what is occurring today. The book tackles openly subjects like moral relativism, abortion, free speech, and secular humanism, and how prevalent and one sided today's University settings are. The book is decidedly from a Christian perspective, and at times the solutions are a bit too pat and the characters a bit too one dimensional. The most accurate portrayals are the every day arguments that take place in University classrooms today on the subjects of Philosophy, Sociology, History and so on. The novel is fast paced, and written exceptionally well. The moving back and forth between the spiritual plane and the physical is done well, although Frank Perretti's book "This Present Darkness" set the standard on that. It is a great story and as such was hard to put down. I recommend this book to anyone curious about the duality between the physical world and the spiritual plane, as these depictions challenge the imagination. While many may find some of the plot lines too easily wrapped up, it is a good novel to enjoy and some thought provoking material and statements about spirituality, morality and philosophy. Summary: Great Book! I loved this book. Sure, some of the dialogue and ideas are simplistic. But current christian fiction rarely has this books combination of history, charachters living out the love of Christ, facing the realities of the secular world, and recognizing spiritual warfare. The theology in the book is solid-not often a trait of christian fiction. Her other book The Lights of Tenth Street is great too. I can't wait till she writes more! Summary: |
