Summary: The Calculus Bible
If you need to buy one calculus book... buy this one. It's got everything you will need for learning basic calculus. I was referring to this book constantly, both while taking basic math, and in more advanced courses in physics and engineering, when I would need to go back and re-learn how to integrate a particular type of problem. I was actually quite shocked to see that the last several reviews rated this book quite poorly... everyone who took math with me using this book loved it. Then again, we were all engineers, so we wanted to be doing this kind of stuff.
Summary: Can we get a book that actually helps the students??
I've been a student at the University of Delaware. I have taken the engineering calc course 3 times - third time i finally passed - every class used the same book!

I am now taking calc 242 which is the next calc course - it is VERY difficult. Most of my friends i have asked did not pass this course on their first try.

This book STINKS - it does NOT have enough examples to make it understandable to eningeering students
Summary: one of the worst
This was the textbook required for my calculus 1 class. My instructor at the College of Lake County was great. This book on the other hand sucked. I can often learn from the book if I have to. With this book that is impossible. It was so difficult to understand. I often had to go to tutors to decipher what I needed to know from the book.
The only good thing about this book is all the problems they give you for practice and if you have the solutions manual you can see each step in solving the problem. There is a pdf on the internet that has every problem in the book worked out. This was a great advantage because I was able to do the even problems as well. We didn't have assigned homework so there was no wrongdoing.
There definitely were issues with the answers and solution manual. There were incorrect answers in several places.
Well I got a D in the class the first time so I had to take it again. I got a B the second time. I am trying to find a copy of this book for cheap so I can refer to it if I need to. I am not buying it again because I like the book, I am merely buying it because I am used to it and have a decent understanding of it. Perhaps I will get an older edition for cheap. they don't change really at all from edition to edition.

Summary: Very bad book
If you think you know calculus because you understand this book, you are sadly mistaken.

There is no rigor, no real problem solving, just paint by numbers. Calculus is pretty much the end of basic mathematics, this book will not get you ready for real mathematical rigor in advanced classes.

I guess this book is fine if you aren't a scientist, engineer, computer scientist, economist, or mathematician. Then again, if you aren't any of the above you likely aren't in a calc class. In short, this book is for nobody.

The real crime here is that James Stewart is getting rich off this [...], and damaging the future of many students. Overpriced, overhyped, just pure garbage. If this book is required, complain to the math department and then get a real calculus book, and just borrow someone elses copy to get homework assignments. Don't be a sucker.
Summary: Mathematicians LOVE this book but.......
I'm not a mathematcian! The book teaches Calc in a way that makes mathematicians (like my professor) very aware that they know WAY more Calculus than their students (who have never taken it before). The examples in the reading section are quick and simple, and the problems are longer and more complicated. If you are a math major aspiring to write complicated algorithms, you should love this book. If you're like most of the people in Calc who are taking it because its a required part of your major, it's really not very helpful. P.S. I did get an A in Calc, but still dont like the book
Summary: Insufficient examples....
I bought this book in order to self-teach, and many of the examples were confusing and seem to assume the reader already has a strong background in calculus. I then went ahead and took a calc I class that used Larson's Early Transcendentals, which was much clearer and easier to follow. My calc II class used Stewart's text, but since the homework was uncollected I just skimmed Stewart's text while doing the homework out of Larson's text since it was a better educational tool for me, and I got A's in both calc classes I took.

I did, however, go back to Stewart's text and solutions manual to get some additional practice doing proofs. It provided plenty of practice problems, but its explanations were not helpful to me because they tended to skip steps.

Summary: A MUST HAVE FOR GUITARIST
I recently purchased this package. The books along with the dvd and a lot of practice will get you were you want to be. I was considering lessons since I am a beginner. I may in the future. After owning this product for a total of five minutes.
I have put off my lessons, no need until I find these routines and theories easy. Very Satisfied. Thanks Bill Edwards and Amazon.com for a great description.
Summary: Best ever
I've struggled with the guitar for about 15 years. Five taken lessons and bought just about every book and DVD out there. Most teach you a few old folk songs to pick out on guitar. Even the teacher i had pretty much just said "heres a chord, heres another chord, now play the guitar" So much time wasted on learning to convert traditional notes to suit the fretboard. If only i could go back 15 years ago and hand myself a copy of this book. Simply amazing! You'll go through the book and wont believe how many times it will click and you will literally say "oh wow" This book teaches you not just how, but why, which after reading this book i realized is just as important as how. Once you learn why the guitar works the way it does you will instantly see how things go together. Don't wait! Buy this book yesterday! I would give it 11 stars if i could!
Summary: i recomend it to all my friends
this is absolutely the best learning tool i have ever seen or used. it answers all the "whys" you would ask. i have recommended it to friends & am a better player today because of this product!

Summary: Great!
The video is amazing and the Quick Reference Guide is very useful. We are starting signing with our infant (7 months) and can already see some response. I strongly recommend it.
Summary: It's pretty good
My daughter uses a few signs.. and it does help at times, but I wish they had an easier to use dictionary of signs...a DVD would be great and easy to make that dictionary on. But I love the quick reference card. We made a copy and have it up on our fridge for easy use.

I have to admit.. I am not as dedicated to the process as they say you should be... but we get enough signing in to get our basic need for sign met.
Summary: Very effective resource!!
This is one book i would recommend to all who plan to use sign language with their babies. It gave specific instructions on how to start (i.e., with milk, more and eat) and what you can expect your child to learn. I like that it showed how babies make their first signs (not how adults do them) since we saw all of it with our daughter.

I believe this book is really effective as long as you are also willing to learn. We started teaching our daughter at 7 months and she started signing at 9 months. By 10 months she can use 12 signs and by 13 months she is now able to use 30 signs!!! Need I say more?!!

Summary: amzing
this is the perfect way to get to know perfectly Kubrick's ideas of his films. With fotos and texts real kubrick's fans are going to be amazed by this book that was done very carefully.
Summary: Worth the weight (and price)
While Kubrick has been gone for years, his films remain a testatment to how good and how diverse the work of a single director can be.

The Stanley Kubrick Archives is an unsurpassed collection of a life's work, perfectly broken into two distinct sections.

The first section undertakes a belief of Stanley's that (I'm paraphrasing poorly)"the image should speak for itself". This sees all of Kubrick's films being given the storyboard treatment (sans ANY text) with perfectly-graded stills from all the key scenes from all of his films. Truly, when looking over 2001's stunning imagery, it's impossible not to hear the classical soundtrack playing in your head.

The second section is the truly archival section of the book with in-depth analysis given to all of Kubrick's titles plus some of his work prior to becoming a feature filmaker. Projects unrealised by Kubrick himself, such as A.I. and Napoleon, are also given some print. This section is a wealth of information that will delight for years to come.

While the price & weight of the book (it's staggeringly heavy but comes in a cool-as cardboard carry case) are great, this is money well spent by any enthusiast of quality films. While Kubrick's films were not all masterpieces, as the present overall quality of film seems to be on the decline, his body of work is certainly worth remembering.
Summary: The 'Big Red Kubrick 'Book!
Astounding example of how certain books should be made. Obviously, there is a niche market for this kind of bookmaking.
Luckily, us dedicated Kubrick fans can now relish all of it.
The book contains amazing details and 'behind the scenes' views on the making of all of the Kubrick flicks. I'm positive that no other director and visionary would have their works commited to such a project other than Kubrick. The final touch is the inclusion of an actual strip of 70mm motion picture film from 2001 that Kubrick himself possessed. My copy shows Frank jogging in the centrifuge. The only caveat is the splitting of some wide screen shots between pages in the first half of the book. Other than that this book qualifies as one of the best examples of how a book should be dedicated, regardless of price, for a one of kind film director.

Summary: It's actually worth the huge price tag
I was turned on to Stewart through his excellent multivariable calculus text. Having been so impressed by that book I decided to fork out the bucks for the this text. Yea - I know - the material in this text is a pre-requisite to the other but I own a kazillion mathematics books and at this point in my life, I've been through various levels of Calc so many times that order is irrelevent. Anyway, for me, this book is really worth the huge price tag. I frequently open it up and read it for pleasure. Sick, huh? But it's that good! Stewart is great at chosing examples to work out fully for your eddification. He also is great at selecting interesting and illustrative problems that aren't presumptuous of the student's abilities at clairvoyance (unlike some other textbook authors I could mention). Lastly, the everything about this book reeks of quality: from the mathematical content (btw - it has excellent graphics!) and Stewart's obvious underlying teaching abilities to the physical characteristics of the binding and page materials. The book is a jewell.

Well, I could go on but you probably get the idea. I wish J. Stewart would do a textbook of similar quality on Linear Algebra or better yet, Differential Geometry! That would really destroy the myth that money can't buy happiness.
Summary: Good Calculus Book
I've learned calculus long time ago, but recently I need it to read a financial book. This book worked for me. I am surprised to know that calculus is easy due to the book's step by step explanation. This book is good not only for readers who learn calculus for the first time but also for poeple who have some experiences. Depneding on your level and purpose, you can read this book like a novel or do all exercises. Only problem I can think of is that this book may not be suitable for people who need to learn pure mathmatics because definitions are not so strict.
Summary: good
I received my item wihtin a week of my purchase. I recommed to buy books from this seller

Summary: Not Much Content
If you are looking for added insight to the game there are other texts with the same information and then some. Most of the descriptions are generalities with little context. It is easy to read, and some of the stories are interesting, but the advice given is not at all groundbreaking.
Summary: Lots of fluff
Most poker players will find that this book contains a large amount of 'fluff' that they will skip over. While there are a couple of good paragraphs here and there, most of the topics discussed in the book should be well known to anyone who has been playing for a while.

My main reason to purchase this book was that I was hoping for detailed discussion on strategies for SNG and multi table online tournaments. Unfortunately both of these chapters were very weak in the amount of material which was presented. IMO anyone would be better off purchasing one of many other NLH tournament books. (check the chapters out for yourself by going to your local book store)

If you are a beginner looking to get better at playing poker, there are many other books that are better to start off with.

If you are thinking of buying the book, I recommend going to the store and reading several chapters before you buy it. The book is written in an easy to read format so it will not take very long to get a feel for the book.

Summary: departure from the norm...
I thought the book was excellent; it was not a re-write or clone of everything else already out there. Although it is a niche book-addressing mostly online play- it is one of the best niche books I've read so far. Unlike many other poker books, Fischman's books teaches you how to "think" about the game in ways your opponents might not consider. There are more "nuggets" in this short text than many of the "cookie cutter" approach books coming down the pipeline.

His format and style are also very refreshing after so many rehashed "clone" type poker books. Although he doesn't provide a "hand chart" type book, his strategic ideas are worth their weight and he gives away much more in the way of "secrets" than many of the other high profile authors seem to be willing to.

If there is a drawback to his style, it is that he seems to have developed a great feel for the game which may be unique to him personally and is somewhat difficult to learn other than just by doing what he did. His insights and those shared by several other top pros are good food for thought and definitely got me thinking deeper about my game and online play specifically. He also covers several psychological factors that are not often discussed which make the book particularly valuable(tilt, burnout, boredom, etc). Overall a solid 5 for content and a 5+ for the bonus intangibles he provides. Highest recommendation.
