I bought this book and paid extra for overnight shipping. It paid for itself within 3 or 4 days when we were able to repair our 95 Golf ourselves using this book and a little bit of diagnosis. The book is easy enough for just about anyone to use and detailed enough to make any repairs.

This is the most complete book on the vw diesel models Just about everything you might ever need to know is here. Well worth its price if you are serious about keeping your vw diesel.

Summary: Never touched my 82 rabbit until now
I have been curious about automotive repair since I own a rabbit with 303,000 miles and counting. I needed to replace the rear struts and wheel bearings, glow plugs, lights, and oil pump. The book covers all areas well with very good details and drawings. However, for the glow plugs it says something stupid as "it's like changing a spark plug" and that was it. No it's not. It's pure hell. You have to remove the injector lines and hoses and the first 2 injectors to have some work space and replace the heat shields on the first 2 injectors when putting it back. Other that I have really enjoyed this book.

Summary: From novice to greasy novice
I picked up my copy of Volkswagen Rabbitt/Jetta Diesel Service Manual Including Pickup Truck and Turbo-Diesel 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 used in an Albuquerque, New Mexico junkyard. I knew little more than how to put gas in, but since my purchase I have replaced or repaired the radiator, brake servo vacuum pump, hoses, window cranks and battery. All I needed to make the car run great was the parts and this book. Perfect for those brave souls willing to get grease under their nails.

Summary: Overpriced and practically useless
It has all the specs and diagrams but is very thin on diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair procedures. I probably got about as much information from the little owners manuel. It contains too many models and years and it's annoying to have to sift through this book to find your particular application. Definately a bad buy!

Very complete piece of work. A minor complaint though. Upon the book's arrival the parcel, which was some standard "bookbox" was open. The book being to big for the box had shifted around and as such had managed to open on end of the box. But being that the book was wrapped in plastic nothing had happened to any pages or other such. Summary: Perfect for evryone with a Corrado I bought it, cause i am doing a G60 to VR6 conversion. Evrything in the book helped me out, espacially with the electric jungle in the engine bay and at the fuse box. Its just perfect, and i would recommend it to evryone that is going to do big repairs to the corrado by itself. It is worth evry dollar. Summary: Just buy it (if you "own" a Corrado!) Anyone who owns this car should own this manual regardless of price (yes, I wish it were cheaper too!)but if you value your Corrado and plan on keeping it for a long time like I am, I suggest buying it. The wiring diagrams are very useful once you understand them. It has already paid for itself for the things that I've needed to repair. As for the G60, well, VW doesn't want inexperienced people messing with that because it is a highly precise item and besides some never repair it right and it ends up giving the G60 a bad name, unless you're one of the lucky few who has connections and can get it done right...research it! Get the manual and read it like a book and be proud to get black finger prints on it... ouch. Summary:

Summary: WARNING: This Book DOES NOT Cover 1.8L Turbo (As Posted)
I own a 1.8L Turbo Beetle and was disappointed to find that this book DOES NOT cover the 1.8L Turbo Models. I informed Amazon that their title is incorrect but I guess their not going to change it.

Summary: A good source of general information but flawed
This book is up to Bentleys usual excellant standards but contains information supplied by VW that is incomplete or misleading. Since these books are mostly composed of information sourced from the official factory publications the credit for the flawed information rests with VW.

For example:

The procedure to replace a headlamp bulb is incorrect but is the same as the information supplied in the owners manual. The book tells you to move a release lever upward and then remove the headlight case to replace the light bulb.

If you try this on an actual vehicle you will find the lever seems stuck in the down position. If you force it up you will break it off. The book and owners manual do not mention that there is a checked plastic slot just to one side of the lever that must be pushed in to release the lever.

The book and manual additionally do not mention that there is also a wire safety catch forward of the headlight assembly that must be released before the headlight assembly can be moved out of the car to service.

Also this book applies only to the 1998 and 1999 vehicles. The warning to disconnect the battery before performing any work relating to vehicle wireing should be heeded but if the system voltage drops to zero the computers on the car will need to be reset and many of these functions cannot be reset by the owner. There are significant changes in the electronic controls on the year 2000 vehicles. In year 2000 models sold in North America they may not start even with the correct key inserted because a part of the anti-theft system is triggered by a dead battery and must be reset at the dealer before it can be started.

Summary: Good content, clear and detailed instruction.
This manual contains a lot of bona-fide VW technical information. It is clearly laid out, well illustrated and a must-have for all New Beetle owners. Save yourself a great deal of time and effort - go buy the book!
