Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: great certification tool!!! great certification tool!!! but u will need also transcenders for exam preparation. contact me on my gmail account (certstuff). i will send u a list of transcenders i can sell u, 10$ each one. thnks Summary: Working on your MCSE? Then get this set of books This was my sole study guide for the MCSE Server 2003 based certification path, and I was not disappointed. The format is clear and easy to read. The books do a fantastic job of outlining WHY you are learning something, not just WHAT you need to know to pass the exam. I think this is what sets MS Press books apart from the competition: the book itself is structured to the best LEARNING format, and NOT to just passing the exam. I came away from these books with a much greater appreciation for Microsoft's Server and AD technologies (I come from a Linux background since 1995 and I'm the first to knock MS), and these books will be on your reference shelf for years to come -- or at least until the next version of Server ships. It took me since August, 2005 until August, 2006 to obtain my MCSE. These books are BIG. You'll find yourself re-reading chapters multiple times. First to get the content, then to do the practice questions and end of lesson/end of chapter questions, then finally to review the end of lesson/end of chapter summaries right before writing the exam. But don't be discouraged. The knowledge that these books impart will allow you to THINK through the exam questions, rather than just basing it on memorization techiques. If you're going to do your MCSE and really want to LEARN, then get these texts. If you just want to pass the exams and never work on Servers, then look elsewhere. Summary: Well Done. I've belonged to the Unix world since 1993, working with low level stuff as kernel, device drivers, virus, assembly, C, etc.. and now I'm trying to learn Windows a bit and have enough conditions to take all tests (290, 291, 293, 294). No problems. This a very good kit about MS Windows 2003, well written, well organized and deserve 5 stars. Dan Holme worried with all details for us and provided a clear text about MS Windows 2003. Stay calm. It's very easy to take the exam. Alex (Sao Paulo - Brazil) Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: All-in-one I'm often leery of the computer books that try to cram everything about a given technology under one cover, but Mastering Windows Server 2003 proved the exception to the rule. I bought this book along with Russel and Crawford's Windows Server 2003 Administrator Guide, and I feel that Minasi's was the better of the two. This book covers all the major tasks you will be asked to do with Windows Server 2003. Beginners should buy this book. I've come across several random problems when dealing with my own 2003 servers, and what makes Minasi's book superior is that the answer is always there. Disk usage, IPSec, Active Directory, IIS: all these topics are covered with satisfactory depth. I knew I had a comprehensive book when I needed to change the default drive letters of my Windows machine and found the answer within. The only negatives I would give this book are the padding (with the obligatory `History of the Internet') and the physical weight of the book. It is a one-stop-shop, however, so those complaints are largely trivial. The Windows Server 2003 Administrator's Guide by Russel and Crawford covers similar material, but Minasi gives enough information to fully apply the knowledge. Russel and Crawford were just too brief in the sections that I needed, so I would recommend Mastering Windows Server 2003 over all the others I have read. Interestingly, many of the examples in both tomes are copied almost verbatim from the Microsoft website. It may be worth your time to look there before buying. Summary: Loaded with information, but not flawless This book covers an amazing body of knowledge, and explains it in a comprehensible and practical manner (although it can get repetitive at times). But because it tries to make you an expert on everything at once - from DNS to security - it falls short of what appears to be its most ambitious goal, skipping some important issues altogether. Summary: the book made understand dns I have bought minasi's book after reading 4, 5 page in a book store. Those pages were about DNS that I had never been able to find a single book explaining how to implement DNS in a real life environment in a clear language , yet detailed. Since this is the first review I have ever written, I would like to emphasize on two aspect of the book which makes the book different from the others. First , All scenarios in the book are real life situation that IT person can be face in real project. Explanations are so much detailed that you can actually configure your system step by step by following the book. Second, The actula reason why i bought the book, Mark discusses underlying technology in a detailed conceptual way, that gave me the overall understanding and insight of what really is going on. The books never makes you confused. Virtually every aspect of networking are covered. If you are tying to learn or working with windows network, this book is a must. I like saying that , to know something in deep is a skill which many people posseses, but to teach what you know to other people and make them really understand what you know is a kind of skill, unfortunately, few of us posses. Mark minasi is definelty one of those people. I hope he will continue sharing his knowledge by writing Onder, Toronto/canada Summary: |

I'm very glad to have this books in my bookshelf. Summary: A Critical Resource This set provides the "missing" instruction book for Server 2003. It is full of helps, hints, and workarounds, written by experts. I cannot imagine trying to maintain a Server 2003 network of any size without these books on your shelf. Summary: |

But you should know that there is a new Second Edition simply called Active Directory Cookbook that was revised by Joe Richards, the MVP and it has a lot of good stuff on topics like ADAM and updates for SP2. So get that. Summary: Excellent Resource This book is a great resource covering a wide variety of interactions with Active Directory. Whether you are new or experienced with AD, this book is an invaluable tool. Summary: Book payed for itself right away Loaded with examples for real-world use. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Rally is Best Server 2003 Book! Susan Snedaker has written an excellent text covering almost everything you'll need to know to get and keep your Windows Server 2003 Enterprise up and running. Its called the 'Best Damn Book Period' and after reading some of the others written on the subject, I agree it is the best--especially for the non-MCSE user. Areas covered include the usual installation/upgrade/implementation information as well as the more complex areas like Active Directory, TCP/IP infrastructure, remote access, and IIS 6.0. Included are lots of step-by step instructions for configurations and applications. The text includes profuse figures of screenshots to help illustrate what the text is talking about and tables of information for the reader's use. Ms.Snedaker also covers troubleshooting and potential problems in each area of the server system in greater detail than most of the other books I have read on the subject. I like the pick a chapter as you need to approach, and jargonless language descriptions she uses throughout the 974 page text. You can have an IT helper on your bookshelf available 24/7. I give this title a 'must have' rating if you are running WS2003 or are even thinking of running it. Summary: Best written, most useful book so far If you are planning to implement a network system based on Windows Server 2003 you will find everything you need in the pages of this book. It covers every topic you need to know to successfully create a secure and efficient Windows server (or at least as secure and efficient as a Windows server can be). The author does assume some basic knowledge of networking and so leaves out a lot of the basics, which is entirely appropriate in a book of this nature. The focus is on the Windows Server 2003 operating system and not on things like using IP addresses to subnet a network. One of the things that differentiates this book from similar ones is that it is not an attempt to provide the reader with the information to pass some Microsoft exam, but focuses on what an administrator really needs to know to do their job. It is a practical and useful book, not one that will be shelved and not used again after taking some exam. For such a thorough and practical book that attempts to provide real world knowledge I was surprised that it only has two pages about migrating up to a Windows Server 2003 system. Basically the only thing it mentions about upgrading is to make sure your hardware is on the approved hardware list. Although it is possible that this is the only potential problem in an upgrade experience has taught me that it is highly unlikely. I have never had an operating system version upgrade without some type of surprise. The only other thing that I don't like is the skimpy index given a book of this size. For each chapter there are items that should be in the index but are not. Other than that, the book is well organized with each chapter containing all the information relevant to s specific task. The advantage here is that you don't have to go searching through five or six different places in the book to gather all the related information to do something - it is all in the appropriate chapter. Again, the focus is on usability and information for real world network operations instead of an exam. Each chapter follows the same basic outline of planning, implementing, and maintaining the chosen topic. With just short of a thousand pages, "Best Damn Windows Server 2003 Book Period" is a highly recommended book for the person already familiar with computer networking who wants to learn the intricacies of Windows Server 2003. Don't buy it if you want a book to pass an exam, buy it because it will make your job easier, make your system perform the way you want, and provide a useful real-world resource if you have a problem. Summary: Truly the Best Damn Windows Server 2003 Book Period From the author: If you're involved in managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 network, you need this book. You don't have time to waste reading through arcane tidbits of interesting but useless information. You certainly don't have time to waste reading a book that's been morphed from other versions of Windows. You need something built from the ground up that addresses exactly what you need to know about Windows Server 2003. Period. The Best Damn Windows Server 2003 Book Period is a comprehensive compilation of everything you need to know about Windows Server 2003. Each chapter stands on its own as a focused reference for specific server information and tasks. We included only the relevant, need-to-know information. Each chapter has screen shots and step-by-step instructions covering critical server tasks as well as pertinent background information. It won't teach you how to convert binary to decimal for IP addressing, but it will show you how to set up DHCP scopes and implement IPv6 on your network. It doesn't explain what a router does, it shows you how to configure routers for secure and efficient network traffic management. From disk and storage management to securing wireless access, this book gets right to the heart of the topics you need to effectively manage your Windows Server 2003 network. Get this book, keep it handy and refer to it often. Sleep better at night knowing your network is in good hands - yours. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: What you need to know right now to fix the problem The words 'Pocket Consultant' in the title are interesting. I don't have a pocket anywhere near big enought to hold this 600 page book. On the otherhand, you don't need the wheeled dolly to cart abound the whole library you needed when you were first learning how to be an administrator. What this book is for is as a refresher when you need some command or switch or flag that you don't use very often and you can't remember what it is. And for that it's ideal. The stated intent of the author is to provide a book that has what you need to do the administrative task at hand without a lot of extra stuff. This is the second edition of the book. It has been updated to cover Service Pack 1 and Release 2. These releases had significant amounts of code in them and made numerous changes in how everything worked. If you have the first edition, you know how much you use it and it's time to upgrade your book just as you did your operating system. Summary: Excellent value Good depth - covers multiple subjects and has plenty of expert advice. Does an excellent job of covering the most important aspects of Windows administration. I was surprised by how much information is packed into ~600 pages. Concise and portable just like it says. It's the one windows book I use the most. Summary: Win Svr Adm Guide - mrp I bought the book as a reference book and it has been able to provide me with easy to find and accurate answers each time I had to refer to it Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: great certification tool!!! great certification tool!!! but u will need also transcenders for exam preparation. contact me on my gmail account (certstuff). i will send u a list of transcenders i can sell u, 10$ each one. thnks Summary: Out of touch After finishing the 70-290 book in the set and taking the exam, I am shocked at how "out of touch" this book is with the actual exam. Topics that were barely touched upon in the book ended up being huge sections in the test and vice versa. I started buying Sybex cert books because of how well the CCNA book was done and how it actually related to the exam. I'm hoping the other books in this kit are a little more up to par. Summary: Good, but you'll need more to pass the tests... I'm pretty fond of the Sybex books--They're well written and tend to explain things fairly well, however these books are often lacking in detail. The books don't cover some topics at all (ie: Expect a visual basic question in 70-291, yet it's not covered at all in the book) and the upper level books really rehash some of the earlier topics by a copy and paste methodology. For instance, although some topics in 70-293 overlap 70-291, it focuses on planning, which rehashing the 70-291 material doesn't help with. New topics in 70-293 are barely covered (Just 30 pages for clustering, which deserves much more!) I've taken to reading these books first as an overview, then reading the MS-Press titles for the nitty gritty details. The included questions are weak, expect questions about 5 times as difficult on the actual exams... The 70-294 book is about 420 pages, while the MS Press title for 70-294 is almost twice as thick... Not that MS Press titles are good reading, the assume you already know what they're talking about. The point--I haven't found a silver bullet for these certs, but these are a good start. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: Poor Performing Product It has been my experience that this product software frequently crashes and does not permit you to do the exercises as outlined. I was not able to log off as administrator and log on as user, so I couldn't verify the effect of different permissions. With most exercises, everytime you close a window the users or groups you created are lost and can't be used in the next lab. The exercises do not cover enough of the topics like group policy. It does not cover all exercises as described in the text like on 70-290, but only a subset of the exercises presented in the text. So for me this product has been disappointing, overpriced, and a waste of money. Summary: dealing with the simulator This item is nice. There can be a few bugs to overcome when you first set it up depending on how your computer is set up. Once you over come the settings issue it works well and is rather fun to use. Very helpful product. Summary: WinServer2003_Sim Excellent product; excellent service from place where I bought it here on Amazon....5 stars..... Summary: |
