The book does a great job covering topics which are not adequately discussed in the class (RIS, RIPrep, Sysprep, Overview of Active Directory and server side issues which MUST be considered when troubleshooting XP issues among others). I passed with a nice margin and the book continues to be a great reference tool. The CD included with the book is great as well, it contained two additional MS Press books (Ency. of Networking, and Ency. of Security, plus a Measure Up test). The Measure Up test is worth the price alone since it presents questions in a format which is VERY close to the actual MS test. Some typos throughout but overall very good. Summary: Passed exam first time with 905, using this book..... This book was my primary reference to pass this exam. I have used XP Pro since 2002 and am fairly familiar with it. I picked up this book based on a number of reviews I read here. I agree with one reviewer who mentioned IIS was barely mentioned, he is correct on that score. WebDAV was never mentioned either. The MeasureUP test prep software was pretty good. I found a good percentage of the questions from the software on the exam. Good luck on the exam! Moose Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Great reference book It covers a lot of tools and solution to problems that I didn't know about, but it still can't replace Microsoft's knowledge base. Summary: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Resource Kit This book is amazing for learning Windows xp Professional. Even though I have a different version of XP it helped with tweaking the computer's graphics and multimedia. It is good book if you are staying at home on a rainy day and want to tinker with your pc. The book is thorough and covers installation to troubleshooting. I haven't read all of it yet because it is like a encyclopedia but from what I have seen it has a lot to offer a newbie or someone who is more advanced. Summary: It is useful, but.... The book is a good reference, but I find it a bit more than needed for a beginer, while less than an admin would want. The tools are very helpful as well. I do not own the book mainly because the majority of it is available online at Microsoft's website. You can save yourself a good sum of money getting the info there. Summary: |

Summary: Very Good Study Guide I used this book to study for the test and passed it. The chapters are broken down great. The review questions are very good and almost exactly what you will find on the test. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: You Can't Pass the Exam with this Book A little backgound about me, I graduated in Telecommunication field, i am a Cisco certified, and working in the networking field, and it is happened that my job now require me more Micosoft and Redhat Linux certified. all i can say about this book is Useless and Disappointed. i can not express how disappointed i am with this microsoftpress book. it is such a wast of money and time. the book is hard to read, each concept is not explained well at all, not deepth. especially the review questions in the book, each chapter has about 3-6 review questions, the question are decided just for kids, really... the questions in the book are very easy and not enuf they r no point and stupid.i am sure in the real exam, there will not b any questions simply ask "group policy is ______?" or "you can share _______ connection in home or small office by using ICS-Internet Connection Sharing" (asnwer=Internet). can u see how simple and stupid the questions are, and turely it just ask like this in the book. I decided to stop and look for other resources, stop now, better than wasting my time (which i already wast my money for the book itself). i strongly don't recommend this book to anyone, easpecialy who is preparing for exam, this book won't bring u to anywhere close. if you want to donate your money, better make it somewhere else, not Bill's pocket, he is surely alot far richer than u, u should know that. Disappointed --- Shall i buy MicrosoftPress' product again? Summary: The Exam does not work Per Microsoft Press, due to a recent update for a security fix. KB840315 The exam that comes with this book on the CD does not work. How did I find out? I bought the book. I tried the exam. I wrote to Microsoft Press and they told me this. Summary: One of the best Study Guide! After reading only few chapters I am convinced that this is one of the best books about XP. (I have 4 of them including ExamCram2) I can definitely recommend this book to any one who is seriously preparing for the MCSA/MCSE 70-270 exam. I found answers to my questions easily and I suggest to people criticizing this book that they should read "About this Book" section, where you can find the chapter and lesson related to any exam objective. The writing style is excellent and easier to read. The book was written in 2001 so for added features and improvement in XP you have to consult "Windows XP Help"(highly recommended) and MSDN (this is expected when you study for an exam). I would keep this book as my primary source for MS 70-270. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: The Best Windows XP Administrator's Pocket Consultant 2nd edition is a little over 500 pages (504 to be exact). It is well written, easy to understand, and the best I've found. My copy has so many dogears and highlights. This book is worth it and then some. Summary: Not just for administrators Out of 5 Windows XP Prof. books this is the one I use the most. This book is packed with useful information, well written, excellent details. By the way, contrary to many other publications that claim to be up-to-date with the latest software version, this book was REALLY written about Windows XP Service Pack 2. Summary: Best of Breed This book is very well written. Stanek does a great job of balancing the need to be consise and yet throurough. This one is definately worth it's cover price. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Average User After a few minutes of reading and in front of the PC, I was able to understand many of the new features in XP Pro. This book should have been included with the software. I considered myself as a fairly competent PC user, but the book unlocked all the items that you cannot find using the "Help" function in XP Pro. At least it seems that way to me! I highly recommend this purchase for ALL PC users. Summary: He's Right, It Should Have Been In the Box The title is right! This is the book that should have been included in the basic box with XP Pro. It is set at just the right level for the average user trying to come up to speed on a new operating system. While the basic user interface is more or less the same as the previous windows operating systems, the underlying code structure is based on NT rather than the older DOS/Windows. This book isn't for system administrators or advanced readers. It's aimed at the average user who wants to master the machine well enough to get down to work or to look up something without having to call for support. It is basically crystal-clear, jargon-free (well, computers are still the subject, how about nearly jargon-free). This edition is up to date to include Service Pack 2, which changed a number of screens and philosophies in the security area. Summary: connecting to the Internet The very latest from David Pogue's eponymous publishing house [and O'Reilly]. The book goes into myriad useful tips on best using Microsoft's XP Professional. A very stable operating system, unlike some earlier efforts by Microsoft. Replete with attractive consumer level utilities. The book does go into system type aids, like showing the full power of the start menu, taskbar and control panel. All to the good. But somewhat prosaic. I suspect what is more germane to most users are things like getting onto the Internet and all that that implies. The authors go into explaining how to get the most out of Internet Explorer. And setting up your email and doing instant messaging. For many of us, browsing and email will take up much of our usage, with chat perhaps a close third. The reality is that the computer's power is often as a connection to the greater world. Which is why though these chapters are only a fraction of the book, you may want to head here first and read slowly. Understanding them may be the most productive part of the book for you. Summary: |
