Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: Would be better without flaws When following lessons to the letter I found that some of the results expected are not achieved due to the book differing from the actual sample files on the accompanying CD. Truly these are errors in publication (I found similar errors in the Photoshop Classroom In A Book and got those confirmed by Adobe and the book publisher). Publishing an instructional guide with errors is quite frustrating when wanting to take the time to learn the product. I don't know if they corrected these in the 2.0 release, just be forewarned.... Summary: A sound training investment. An excellent book for getting up to speed with this program. I had never used this program before and this Classroom in a Book series walked me through the main features in a very logical step by step fashion that was both easy to follow and understand. I'm sure that there are other books that may cover this program in a more in-depth manner, but you need to get a good handle on the core features and this book does exactly that. Summary: Cookie-cutter experience This is an uninteresting paint-by-the-numbers experience of clicking the the mouse to make things happen to canned material, without empowering you to use the software with your own projects. Well written and illustrated, but of little value. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: Disappointed. I purchased this book hoping for in depth information on certain editing effects topics, for example "hard limiting". From what I read, the book does not go into much more detail than the information already available in the Help included with the program. I have returned this book and will be choosing a more costly one. Summary: A great how-to book for Cool Edit Pro / Adobe Audition I was in need of a resource to explain how to use a trial copy of Adobe Audition, the name Adobe gave to the software when they acquired it from Syntrillium. As of this writing, there don't seem to be any books on this subject under the new product name, so I tried Richard Riley's, hoping it would fill my need. I was not disappointed! His book does an excellent job of explaining how to put this software, by whatever name, to use. The items covered in the book appear to apply to both the prior Cool Edit and newer Audition products, so it should serve owners of the software under either name equally well. It provided a great deal of "put it to use" information, and was an excellent value. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: ...like those brilliant professors who are just bad teachers. This book gives a solid introduction to the basic functions of Adobe 1.5 (and earlier), and its contents are clearly identified in the index, which makes the navigation easy. I was performing the basic editing in a matter of minutes. Also, the book binding is excellent--you open a page and it will stay open! This is an important feature when you are working with both of your hands on your computer. I am happy with the purchase, and I'd certainly recommend this book to others; however, there is some room for improvement for the future editions. 1. Sometimes the author forgets that we aren't all computer experts. As a result, his instructions include the language laypersons (like myself) do not understand. This is particularly conspicuous in the special effects sections of the book, where I needed help the most. 2. At the same time, the book dedicates an entire chapter on the intuitive basics with which most of us won't need help, such as opening a file, saving, saving as, switching between different views, etc. 3. Also, I didn't really get the sense that Mr. Grebler is neither a musician nor a music editor in real life. His discussion is strictly technical (i.e., technological) and doesn't include any tips on musical nuances. All in all, Mr. Grebler's style reminds me of those brilliant professors in college, who were experts in their scholarly fields yet had no idea how to teach effectively. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Not for beginners This book is full of in-depth information on Audition and it's many functions and is worded in plain english that will make sense to anyone already familar with Audio work. Unfortunately, its not structured for a beginner. It progresses in a manner consistent with the program but not in a logical manner from start to finish, which is what a first time user needs to be able to grasp the basic concepts of using the program from scratch. Summary: Great Book....but This is a well put together book by an experiences sound engineer - who has since moved on to bigger and better things. It is comprehensive (for its size) and practically minded. However, a program like Audition has a heavy learning curve. I frankly don't think a book can bring a new user up to speed like a DVD. Read this book first, but then get yourself a DVD on Adobe Audtition if you are serious about getting the most from this application. It made a huge difference for me. Summary: A hands on, go-to learning experience Written by the founder of the Musicians' Technical Workshop, Using Audition is a solid, user-friendly how-to guide to using Audition version 1.5 to edit digital video and audio multimedia. Screenshots and explicit instructions cover basic installation, recording and microphone techniques, editing tracks and adding effects, using multitrack recording, MIDI files, and ReWire to enhance tracks, mixing and mastering for Compact Disc and Surround Sound, analyzing audio content to resolve problems, and much more. A hands on, go-to learning experience, self-teaching instructional and useful reference intended for users ranging from beginner to advanced, Using Audition also comes with a CD-ROM filled with files for use in the text's step-by-step tutorials.
