Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: The best there is If you have the money and want to buy an Arabic-English dictionary, this one is the best there is! Summary: poor quality of print The book is very small, which should have been an indication. Printed in India, most of the pages are blurred or faint printing. Not readable. A huge price for something unusable. Summary: Best dictionary I'VE found yet... Now, this dictionary should ONLY be for those who are schooled in how to use it; you must know the Arabic root and measure system to know what you are doing. If you DO have the know-how, this dictionary is tops. It has been my security blanket when working with Arabic. I had one a few years back, thought I would never use it again when I stopped translating for a time, and so I threw it away. A few months ago, upon returning to the Arabic language, I was express-ordering ANOTHER one and counting the seconds for its arrival. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: WOW If you are serious about learning Arabic - this is the place to start. It is full of exercises that delight the academic mind. The calligraphy is beautiful, and the vocalizations of the sounds are very clear. Because of this coursebook, my other arabic materials are beginning to make sense. Summary: Great for Beginners I think this is the best book on the market for beginners. The DVDs are very helpful and an innovative approach to teaching the writing system. The only thing I didn't like was at the end of units when there is vocabulary I often found that the pictures were not at all clear as to the meaning of the word. In other words what you thought the picture was representing was not actual what the word meant. Summary: Good book, bad DVDs This was the textbook for a university Arabic class I took. The book is good, but the included DVDs are awful and annoying. I recommend this book, but suggest purchasing the Instant Immersion Arabic 2-cd set to learn some vocabulary and phrases (for about $9.99). Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: All you need now is a cassette... This is a straightforward description of reading and writing the Arabic script. If you have no experience with Arabic I think you would still need to locate a teacher or native speaker as some of the letters are very difficult to pronounce as native English speakers. However for the most part its easy to follow and would give you a great start, especially before you take an Arabic course. If it came with a cassette with pronouciation I would have given it 5 stars. Summary: Great beginnners book! This book was a great jumpstart for me before I started an intensive Arabic course. I had the advantage of not only knowing the letters and their sounds, but how to write them in all forms (independent, initial, medial, and final). I graduated from the course and now I teach beginner's Arabic. I recommend this book to all of my students. The ones who check it out from the library wind up with an earlier grasp on reading and writing. Summary: Fantastic and Easy I am a college student at a school that doesn't offer Arabic as a language, and I wanted to learn it on my own without taking away too much time from my other studies (including another language- Russian). As someone who doesn't have an incredible amount of time to devote to the subject, and as someone with absolutely no knowledge of arabic whatsoever coming into it, this book is an EXCELLENT introduction to reading and writing the language. The book is broken down very simply, devoting time to each letter and the different ways they are written. The alphabet is known as a very difficult one for Westerners to master, especially when teaching oneself, but this book made the process very easy for me without taking much time. I highly recommend it to anyone who is learning this language for the first time, as the alphabet itself is the base off of which to learn everything else about the language. Fantastic. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Shell out a little more for a lot more quality i'm very sorry i bought this book. It may be concise, and it may be cheaper, but one shouldn't sacrifice spelling for saving a few dollars! The concise edition drops the dots off many of the letters, thus either misspelling the word or creating letters that don't exist. i borrowed the full-sized edition and found it to be fine. Don't waste your money and your sanity on this version! Summary: The best one I have found This is the best Arabic dictionary I have found so far, but I still have a couple complaints about it. There are a few things missing, like the names of countries, and sometimes the print is small and hard to read. The Al-Mawrid dictionary is more complete, but can be overwhelming, especially for new students, becuase when you look up an English word, it lists a whole bunch of Arabic words and it is hard to figure out which on is the right word. This dictionary, however, has very clear explaination on when to use what word. I would give it five stars if it were a little bit more comprehensive. For the serious Arabic student, this is the best English-Arabic dictionary out there. For a companion to this, I suggest the Hans-Wehr. Someone complained that this dictionary only included English-Arabic, but that is common for serious acedemic dictionaries though, because it would be huge dictionary if both were included in one volume. Summary: Not the best dictionary you can buy... While this dictionary does contain a lot of entries, it is English to Arabic only; there is no Arabic to English. It does however show the short vowels, though the script is a little frustratingly small. I took it back once I found out it was only a one-way dictionary. The Arabic Practical Dictionary by Hippocrene is much better (though it doesnt' show short vowels however). Summary: |

It is the best tool for a translator who needs to understand nuances and idiomatic particularities. It is THE book! However, beginners should try something else! Summary: Great dictionnary It's a really great dictionary, u cannot think about a word that doesn't contain Summary: Great Dictionary it doesn't only have a dictionary for English Arabic - Arabic English, it also great as a dictionary of Arabic words used in English, and a dictionary for Arabic and English brovrebs - translated back and forth. Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: Disappointed I was very disappointed with the product, because I had different expectations, based on the advertisement of it.It was utterly different from what I thought it would be, and now it's no use for me. The four cds it has, are in four different dialects of the arabic language, so, only one is useful, since you can not use all four of them in your conversations, and the other four cds are only in the formal arabic language which is used only in writing. I regretted I bought it. Summary: Buy this book This is quite possibly the best Arabic book out there. Whether you're taking classes or just studying Arabic on your own, this book will DEFINITELY help you. Instead of just teaching you pointless vocabulary items with tiny bits of grammar, it describes to you the structure and LOGIC of Arabic. All languages possess a certain logic to them. The logic of the Arabic language is VERY different from that of English. This book won't just tell you basic grammar, it will immerse you in learning how to form your own sentences and teach you the language the way languages should be taught: learning the language's logic. Another EXTREMELY important thing is the variety of Arabic it teaches you. MSA (modern standard arabic [which is taught here]) will basically be understood anywhere, but each region that uses MSA as its formal standard (for ex: Egypt, Iraq) has its own specific brand of Arabic. The differences between such a local dialect and MSA are pretty big at times. SO, it is even better to hear that this book/CD course not only gives you an AWESOME immersion into MSA, it gives you a good explanation of four major Arabic dialects: Saudi, Lebanese, Iraqi and Egyptian. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. I highly recommend this whole package. Summary: This is a great course! This is one of the best arabic courses I have seen on the market. It gives you a complete run down of arabic grammar and it shows how standard written arabic differs from the colloquial dialects, something you have to know if you're going to an arab country. I recomend getting the audio material with the book, because arabic has some sounds that don't exist in english, and so you're going to need all the practise you can get. All in all, I can't find anything lacking in Ultimate Arabic. Summary: |
