Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: The best Investment I made this year I believe that buying this book was the best investment I made this year (and a pretty small one too). If you are an over worked and stressed out workaholic as I am, with a To-Do list that can't be managed by any To-Do list Software tool available out there and having the feeling that things are about to grow above your head, causing sleepless nights because of the fear that you missed something important and how to get things done when they need to be done? If all some or all of that sounds familiar to you, this book is exactly for you. I have seen a bunch of books and tutorials about personal management, but none could solve my problems because of different reasons. The main one was most of the time the disability to apply the methods described to MY lifestyle and preferences. Well, this book is different, because it can be adapted to my life without me having to adapt to the book. It shows methods all known to me already organized and structure in a way that helps me to get my stuff organized and out of my head. Not only makes it my work more efficient, but also helps me to relax from time to time because I know what needs to be done and when. You can tell that the author knows his stuff very well. Any time a "but... " thought crossed my mind when he was explaining how to do something, a few lines or paragraphs later did he addressed exactly that leaving me without a "but..." question and feeling of doubt. That was scary at times, because It felt like he is reading your mind while you are reading. Great book. I can only recommend it to anybody who needs to "get stuff done". Summary: A Shopping List? Based on the number of high reviews I've seen, I'm in the minority on this one. I felt like I was reading a shopping list to buy office supplies. Most of the things Mr. Allen speaks about should be self-explanatory. I got about half way through the book then found myself skimming chapters just to keep from going crazy or falling asleep. I have no doubts that Mr. Allen is a great motivational speaker and that he's a decent writer, but I think this book was about 150 pages too long. I give it 3 stars because I think there are a few bits and pieces that can be used to make some processes more efficient. However, the bottom line is that everyone will have to adhere these processes to what works for them. Summary: Good "reminder" of some old tools That's my thought when I took a first look at the book. The author writes in an easy-reading way, which helps you turn things real, or "get the thing done". No break-through methodology, but useful hints. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent collection of community art - diverse, raw, and incredibly moving. This is a stunning, emotionally touching, at times absolutely hilarious, and always - always - deeply human collection of community artwork. Whether you're a fan of the PostSecret website or not, you'll probably be fascinated by it from the first page you view. The only complaint I would have is the sometimes awkward positioning of postcards between pages. Even then, this has to be one of the best art books I've seen because of the immediate impact it makes on so many people who pick it up. I hesitate to call this a coffee table book because the term has come to be associated with largely decorative works that are light and un-offensive in content - books that are the opposite of PostSecret. Yet I would highly recommend placing it somewhere conspicuous like a coffee table; it makes for a great conversation starter, and is truly rare in its ability to engage almost every person who comes across it. Summary: A must have! Would make a great gift! Whenever I reread this fantastic book, I feel so deeply emotionally touched by the best guarded secrets of so many people. I have never visited the web site of this project so I am not its "fan". Anyway, I am sure that this outstanding coffee table book will leave you several times with an "a-ha" experience. The broad spectrum of "secrets" that is covered and actually exposed in this book is amazing. I am sure that you will have a great time going through them. I completely agree that one can feel a lot better if they share with other people about certain best kept secrets. I think that this is one of the main reasons for the significant participation in this project and the unstoppable interest towards it. I am so thankful to Frank Warren for his hard work on this project and for making it accessible to the public in a book format. If I also have to share a "secret", it will be the additional bestseller "Scientifcally guaranteed multi-orgasms and ultimate sex" by scientist Ritz. It helped me to turn from an average lover into a Sex God in a matter of a few weeks. That's why I highly recommend both books! Enjoy! Summary: Great conversation piece This book is a great conversation piece. Some of the secrets are a little sad, but others are funny or uplifting. There seems to be something for everyone in here. Everyone who starts reading it gets sucked in. An awesome coffee table book! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Brilliantly constructed tragicomedy What if you could go back in time and meet your future husband or wife as a child? How would that change your relationship? The Time Traveler's Wife is more of a love story than generally suits my taste in fiction, and that is why I cannot give it five stars. However, if a beautifully constructed, evocatively written tale of enduring love couched within a highly paradoxical (yet central) premise of time travel is your cup of tea, then you cannot get better than this. The characters, emotions, and family dynamics ring true to life; the story is seamlessly developed through multiple timelines; and the writing is adept enough to make me feel like I was eavesdropping on the devoted married couple. (Maybe that is what made me a little uncomfortable with the "love story" aspect. I will admit there were a few occasions where I just wanted to skip pages because I did not want to know that level of detail about these people. Clare's sexual awakening--regretably told from Henry's point of view--is one example.) Flawlessly constructed, at times almost painfully evocative, but always highly original, this novel offers much to consider about the enduring nature of love. Summary: I Love This Book!!! This is an excellent book. It kept me consumed with it the entire time I was reading it. Like nothing else I have ever read. Love it! Summary: Save it for a long weekend.... This is a truly original novel, both fascinating and endearing...though he travels through time, Henry is otherwise a fairly average Joe. However, I do recommend reading this book in as few sittings as possible. Every couple of pages the story leaps backward or forward through time, and if you leave the book sitting for too long, you may have to re-read certain portions to get back up to speed (I began dog-earing passages that seemed particularly important). I work full-time and am a law student in the evenings, so it took me a month or longer to get through the novel....I wish I had saved it for a long weekend, as I fear I may have missed some of the finer details...but I thoroughly enjoyed it, nonetheless. Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Women's Best Friend 'What You Wear Can Change Your Life is a book that husbands need to make sure their wives never lay their hands on. The book is authored by the famous twosome, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine.Using their own less than perfect bodies as examples, they give tips on the do's and don't's of dressing. They talk about bra sizes, stressing the need to wear the correct size so as to give the appearance of a youthful thrust to even the most deflated breasts, at the same time showcasing a waist that would make any man look up from his paper and coffee. The book is truly a woman's best friend. Summary: You can change how you look today, without losing a pound or spending a fortune WHAT YOU WEAR CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE is an informative guide that is highly recommended for women who want to know how to dress well for their body type. Though I don't normally think self-deprecation is a good thing, in the case of WHAT YOU WEAR CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE, I think the authors, Trinny Woodhall and Susannah Constantine use it well. Because their commentary about body shapes, grooming and wardrobe choices is biting, Woodhall and Constantine could run the risk of turning off readers by sounding like they are attacking us. But because they reveal their own body and wardrobe challenges, it is easier to relate to the authors and as a result it is also easier to take their common sense approach to looking great, regardless of our size, budget or figure flaws. Divided into 10 logical chapters that focus on defining your shape and culling your wardrobe to finding the right accessories and traveling in style, WHAT YOU WEAR CAN CHANGE YOU LIFE is a great book that features dozens of full color photographs that fully illustrate the authors' observations about which clothes work best for which body shapes. Though I have been interested in fashion since I was 13 and at this point could easily write the articles that I find in women's magazines, I still learned lots by reading this book. What made it most rewarding of all is that I didn't even have to go shopping to take advantage of Woodhall and Constantine's suggestions. Instead I just looked into my closet, plucked out the clothing combinations the authors suggested and the first person I saw gushed, "have you lost weight? You look great." I'd call that an impulse self-help book buy that delivers instant results. - Regina McMenamin Summary: This book is a keeper! I bought this book after seeing people's look being transformed on Ophra. I enjoyed Trinny and Suzanne's humor. I liked their system of determining if you are large or small boned and what to wear accordingly. I LOVE the color coordinating section. I thought I had a good color sense but now I'm putting new colors together that I'd never tried before and they are really great. I use the color section when I'm planning a beading project aswell. The one area I wasn't so happy with was about new make up products I ordered the heated lash curler, face primer and lip wax. I didn't feel that I got much bang for the $80 bucks I spent. But the money I spent on body shapers was worth it and I appreciate the pictures showing how much difference they make since I look different standing up straight in front of the mirror than when I'm moving about in the world. Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Couldn't put this down! Jeannette Walls pens an intriguing story. I was drawn to the plight of her and her siblings. Summary: Awesome read! I first heard about this book on The Diane Rehm Show (NPR). Diane was interviewing Jeannette about her story and I was intrigued. As it turns out, this possibly could make my top 10 list! I was hooked from page one. I could care less about the arguments other people have about the validity of the memories of a 3-year-old. The whole picture she paints of her childhood and parents was enough to sell me. I have given copies of this book to several friends who are expecting their first child. I think if you have any doubts about raising a "good kid", read this, and it should restore all confidence. I hear a movie deal is in the works. I doubt it will be as good as the book (they never are), but it will be interesting to see the cast. God forbid Brad Pitt or Jessica Simpson are anywhere near this. Summary: Depressing I feel bad that Jeanette Walls had such a terrible childhood. Mine wasn't the best either, so perhaps that is why I have put the book aside before I finished it. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great introduction to art I just puchased the latest edition of Artforms which includes the CD-ROM with interactive explanations on elements of art. Artforms is a great introduction to art and art history for those who have always wanted to understand how to look at art and interpret it for themselves. Over half the book is dedicated to elements and principles of art and craftsmanship. I use this book in training my art museum volunteers so that they have a clear understanding of why some works of art have strong visual impact while others do not. I like how the book uses a mix of artwork from various time periods, media and cultures to explain the elements and principles. Far too many art/art history books become a history of painting, and Artforms represents a variety of art forms other than 2D. The history portion of the book is a gloss of art history, but good enough for someone just delving into art. The book is easy to read, relatively jargon-free and has a nice glossary at the end. I wish the CD had more information on it that you could use in a classroom setting, projecting it on an overhead, but that is my instructor point of view. For someone studying at home it is quite nice. To sum up, the book is so good I now own two editions and will continue to recommend it to people who want to understand how to look at art. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: The Ultimate Reference in the Electrician's Trade I can't say it better myself: "The purpose of this Code is the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity" NEC 90.1(A) This puts an end to the hearsay of what is code and what is not. Most states (and many countries, it is aimed toward an international audience) codes start with the National Electrical Code, sometimes modifying it to their particular needs, so you might run into an instance where your local code differs. One small, quirky thing is that for explanatory material it uses the term "FPN" which stands for "Fine Print Note". The term "fine print", besides meaning the obvious, "printed matter in small-sized type," also means, "the detailed wording of a contract, lease, insurance policy, or the like, often set in type smaller than the main body of the document and including general restrictions or qualifications that could be considered disadvantageous" (both definitions of "fine print" from the Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary). It definitely has a negative connotation and seems inappropriate for a term of "explanatory material". Why not call it "EM" or just "Note"? Summary: Required reference for handymen and professional electricians The National Electric Code, also knows as NFPA-70, is the standard that building officials use to define what is legal to use in electric services of all kinds. NFPA is the National Fire Protection Association. The Electric Code began almost as soon as Edison wired some of his new lights in New York, and the first electricity caused fire happened. Soon thereafter the National Fire Protection Association began writing safety codes aimed at preventing fires and promoting safe wiring techniques. Today, more than a century later, the Electric Code is republished every 3 years. As new inventions and new applications for electricity are ever expanding the code book expands and is revised to define the new applications. The 2005 edition has been updated to include recent developments in available materials and equipment. The code has 772 large pages detailing every electric installation from common house wiring to installation requirements for 35,000 volt transformers. The tables detailing how many conductors you can put in a conduit go on for 50 pages in the appendix. The problem most people have with the code comes from its complexity and scope. If you are a handyman, or even an electrician, it takes years of study to learn all its requirements, and even then they change it on you. It can be helpful though. One year I was installing wire for a welder in my garage. I found a paragraph that allowed me to derate the current load of the conductors based on the duty cycle percentage of the welder. I saved quite a bit of money on heavy wire that wasn't needed, and had a safe installation. The code is so long and complex that several other books have been written to help professional and amateur electricians understand the code, translating it's stilted language and detailed requirements into plain English for common applications. The "Illustrated Guide to the National Electric Code," by Charles R. Miller, is one of the better ones. There are also numerous how-to handbooks on electric wiring based on the code. For example, "Wiring Simplified," by Richter and others. is an easy do-it-yourself guide. However, even an illustrated guide book is not the code. When the electric inspector comes out to review your work you need to know that you wired it correctly. You can bet he's read the code and will be approving or disapproving your work based on its requirements. Over the years I've had to repair and straighten out many half-baked and outright dangerous electric installations. Many of them were done by well meaning men who just didn't know how electric wiring was supposed to be done. I recommend that everyone doing wiring from homeowner to seasoned electrician, to electric engineer ought to own a current copy of the National Electric Code. The 2005 edition will be current until 2008. Summary: Great This book will help me through my electrical job right now i learning the codes and will have my licence soon got the book earlyer than stated and am very pleased with it great item Summary: |
