Summary: Good Buy - Keeps Interest - Fun
I purchased this for my 3 yr old daughter. I like it because it not only helps with her dexterity (some of the pieces are small)and understanding coordinating colors, but it also keeps her entertained by herself so I can make dinner, clean, etc. There are lots of magnetic pieces, some smaller than others, like the accessories. My daughter is very careful and gentle with her toys, keeping them in one place and organized, she is quite meticulous. If your child is not, I can see pieces getting tossed all over the place and getting lost, b/c they're small. Although, both the front and back inside the book are fully magnetic to store them. The "notebook" that comes with it is too young for a 3 yr old, as it talks about fashion tips she doesn't quite understand yet, but she has fun looking at the photos and I read it anyway. Overall, I think it's a great buy and my daugher enjoys it and plays with it everyday.

Summary: A must for Early Vintage Barbie Collectors
This book covers all the outfits, accesory paks made for Barbie friends and family until 1967. It shows them in detail, the pictures are bright and high quality and never miss an accesory. Like all other books the Price Guide Section is not up to date but the info given helps you tell which items will be HTF and which won't.

I do not recommend this book for people just trying to id their childhood items. Use the web for that task. Go to barbie collectibles dot com and ask in the bulleting board how to id your stuff. As this book only shows fashions for a limited time period thus you won't be able to id all your collection.

I would also recommend the second and third volumes of this author if you are really into barbie fashions. Also if you like to know about variations check Joe Blitman's books that cover MOD fashions for Barbie and Francie.

If you have heard about The Barbie Closet book that also covers fashions but having Vol 1&2 of Eames together with The Ultimate Barbie Guide by Melillo you will have all the info in that tome with much better pictures at a much lower price. (B closet is Out of Print and goes rather high).

Sweaters, afghans, swimsuits, rugs, even a dog sweater. Nicky Epstein gives you a pattern for nearly anything you might want to knit for a Barbie. Well photographed pictures are followed by clear instructions for creating the items. Some of the recommended yarns are rather exotic, but an experienced knitter may be able to substitute from yarns left over from other projects. This would be a good book to have on hand if you are a knitting Mom, Grandma or doting Auntie.

Summary: Tons of fun!
This is a great knitting book. I'm a beginning/intermediate level knitter, and I found this book to be a great practice book before my first attempt to make a human-size sweater. Most projects can be completed in several hours - one day at the longest. I never got bored with it ;)

The book is also very clear and easy to use. I never had to look up additional information from other books -When a project requires an intermediate level stitch (that is stitces beyond basic knit/purl, binding off, casting on, and increasing/decreasing) you can always find a short tutorial about that sitch on the same page. I'm also happy that I got to use up my leftover yarns.

Summary: Fabulous clothes
I bought this book to make some Barbie clothes for my granddaughter. The thread is a little high-end, but the clothes are fabulous. The instructions are easy to follow, and I could easily substitute yarns.

Summary: wish I had this years ago
If you have people in your life (such as sisters, daughters, neices, granddaughters) that play with Barbie and you know how to crochet, you will find this book very helpful. I found some of the instructions a bit difficult, but most are fine. And you can always use this book as inspiration to make up your own clothes for Barbie. After all, Barbie doesn't always have to go with the crowd, does she? She sets her own fashion.
I would have given this book a higher rating but the pattern difficulties interfere with that. However, I do recommend this book.

Summary: Not at all what I expected
I am very surprised that these patterns are so difficult to follow. I ignored all the reviews thinking I wouldn't have any problems and I was so wrong. Measurements are misprinted in some places, other places measurements are totally off. Plus the way she makes the patterns takes twice as long or longer to create. These are simple little pieces but I had more trouble doing them than a collector dress from Paradise Publication (which have very enarmorate and fancy outfits).

After many unsuccessful starts and restarts I sat down and rewrote all the patterns (except a few like the bikinis or blankets). I can create a whole ensemble in less than two hours now since I did that.

I am glad she wrote the book because using her pattern as a basic guideline and looking at the pics, I am able to create some cute pieces to go with the wedding dresses and other collector ensembles I create.
