Summary: Great Insights!
This book explains to us that, unfortunately we are not in our relationships just for the sake of 'love'. There is a lot more that explains why we are together with the people we are together with. It tells us about he 'Hows' and 'Whys' of ourselves and our relationships. It is painful to learn these things, but learning these things is the only way we can shed our next layer of skin and more on with our personal development. If you are in tune with your real self, many of these things the authors says in this book will click inside. If you'd like another great book on this topic, I suggest you read 'The Ever-Transcending Spirit' by Toru Sato. It is even better in the way it explains the patterns we develop both in our minds and in our relationships. I'm sure you will love it if you like to really learn about relationships.

I quit caffeine about a year and a half ago after years of being a hard core coffee addict. I started cutting back slowly by mixing decaf with my regular coffee. After about two months of gradually increasing the decaf I was able to stop the coffee without getting the headache or bitchiness that normally happens with caffeine withdrawal. I bought this amazing book on amazon called The Truth About Caffeine by Kushner. You can discover many illnesses attributed to caffeine.I now drink herbal teas, soy bean coffee (caffeine-free) and lots of water instead.
Summary: Victim Mentality
This is a snippet of an essay by Dr. Robert Westermeyer, an outstanding addiction counselor...

" a concern to me a(re) the people who have the capacity for genuine empathy and have instilled strong values for kind treatment toward others getting the message that to act on it (unless it's reciprocated in equivalent allotments) is wrong. Empathy is good and caring is good. Friendships which last are usually based on mutual caring and even occasional self-sacrifice. Mellody Beattie's idea that relationships should always be equitable reflects the temperament of a five-year old. And with regard to the notion that being in a relationship with someone who is addicted is synonymous with pathology, Absurd. There is no empirical data to support the belief that being a member of a family in which there is addiction warrants diagnosis of a personality disorder (e.g. Gomberg,1989)."

Summary: good book a little longer to get
An excellent book for those who are continuing recovery! We already have the scattered bits and pieces of information, now what do we do with them and how do we integrate them into our lives and become the people we were born to be.

Summary: Maker's diet made my son breath easier... Asthma cure? Maybe.
We are active, not lazy people - so exercise is not our main problem. Diet, anti-biotic use, and the MMR shot I think were our biggest culprits. My son has had severe food allergies, and asthma since he was less than a year old. He needed intravenous antibiotics at birth, and later, was allergic to the MMR shot, but the doctor loaded him up with Benedryl and gave it to him anyways. Most kids who out grow their food allergies have done so by the time they are his current age - age 6. Our son was not getting better as time went on, he was getting worse, and adding more allergies to the list - over 15 different foods now, and almost all the environmental allergies that are available on the scratch test.

Last July, we started the Maker's Diet. We have not followed it 100%, and have still seen dramatic results. We are more or less following the diet that you will end up with at the end of the 40 days. Our diet was already so restricted from his allergies; I couldn't see how we could eliminate much more, so we followed the same guidelines that Jordan Rubin followed when he was first learning to eat from the bible. (We also read Patient Heal Thy Self. This info. is in both of his books.) If it worked for him... why not us? We only had July, August, and Sept., before the first colds and flu of the season hit, and our weather became very wet. He did much better with his asthma - he was only on the nebulizer ONCE this winter! Last winter he had to use it over seven times!! This is a very dramatic improvement. As far as his food allergies go... we haven't been able to eliminate any yet, but his reactions are not as severe as they had been, and his environmental allergy reactions are much better as well.

One other thing that I had pestered the doctors about for his whole life was the smell of his urine - I know it sounds strange, but you'd have to smell it to understand it. They always blew it off like there was nothing wrong - it was just caused from what he was eating. Well, I'm here to tell you that after about 6 months on the Maker's Diet, his urine changed, and now smells like a normal human being's. The only real major changes we made to his diet were eliminating sugar, and refined grains, and adding organics when ever possible. He's allergic to just about everything else that the diet says you should avoid. The only supplement he's taking is the Primal Defense powder. (The HSO's are not "dirt", in the book he said that it looked like dirt.) The urine smell change didn't happen overnight like the doctors say it does. Doctors had told me that some foods (like asparagus) affect your urine odor with in hours, not over several months. Something big is happening - I'd say healing.

Other wonderful changes we have noticed are: He was borderline ADHD with signs of autism - that has improved. He now has an attention span, and makes eye contact with you. He is more loving and affectionate, he has a great imagination now (his imagination was previously almost non-existent).

If you have any health problems, even minor ones, this diet can help you. God gives us the information, but it's up to us to use it. Even if you have to start out making small changes in order to stick with it, it's better than none. What do you have to loose?

Summary: This book has....
This book has a good concept. If one has the ambition to actually do it. I bought this for my Sister who has Crohn's Disease and Ulcerated Colitis. She has taken parts of it and applied it to her life. I believe Jordan's story for her was the best thing she could read.
Summary: It's really about getting back to the basics...
I have really enjoyed this book. I have wondered for a long time about the foods we eat. We actually have a motto in our house, "if God made we eat it, if man made it we don't." I won't say we don't eat any processed foods at all, but there are few. And my kids are healthy. I have an [...] and the only times they've been to the Dr. were for their well child checkups or injuries.

He has some really good information here. It is based on the Old Testament guidelines for the Jews. And some one else here pointed out how he (the author) left out the scripture where God made all meat clean. Well, if you actually study that scripture more, God was using that as an analagy for Peter to understand God has made the Gentiles clean. That being said, Jordan Rubin never makes any claims that this is the only way, or the right way of eating. He never says you must eat this way to be a child of God. He never says we are still bound by the old laws. But God did tell the Jews, his chosen people, to eat this way for a reason. Just because we aren't "under the law" anymore doesn't mean it's not still good for you. And if the Jews have been a nation of health and longevity, then it must be working.

The only thing that did bother me about his book is that he does promote his own products a little too much. And I still wonder about supplements. It really kinda goes against the grain of the rest of the book.

But I would recommend this to anyone. I wish more people would go back to this way of eating.

Summary: Very informative...well laid out & easy to read
This book is EXCELLENT and one which I highly recommend. Yes...it's from 1992 but it all still stands true. The one thing about eating this type of food/juice and eating this way in general is that the underlying benefits and facts don't change. It certainly is not a fad but based on principles that stand the test of time. You can buy a book on this subject that is 50 years old or one that is brand new...they will say pretty much the same thing. This book is very well laid out tho' and is packed with a wealth of information. It points out the benefits of juicing and what each vegetable and fruit is good for...and how to drink them, along with some excellent recipes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Summary: A juice for different aliments
I bought this book @ Whole Foods. A very good book. I like the way she breaks it down telling what each juice is for & other interesting facts.
Summary: My second copy.
When you open book and use it in the kitchen over and over, it gets a little worn out. I used it to death.
Some people, have a real hard time with it. The "no-veggie-eating all junk and meat types", oh and don't get me wrong, I'm no rabbit. I love steaks and Taco Bell too, which is WHY I choose to juice. When a friend complains about an ailment, I read up and try to help. Some people are so stubborn and finicky. Yeah, maybe kale, parsley, carrot tastes nasty, but the benefits FAR outweigh the nasty taste. Chase it with somthing REAL good, like pineapple or carrot, apple, ginger. That's no different than the nasty concoctions of liquor shots we used to down with chasers back in the day. Especially if you can forgo eating a huge plate of veggies, ugh. What do you want? Ulcers? Irritable Bowels? Arthritis? Acne? Worse? Or somthing that tastes nasty for a minute and practically saves your life?
Have some juice and a bran muffin for cryin out loud.
Duh.

Summary: Excellent !!
I haven't felt compelled to write an Amazon review in many years. However, I felt compelled to do so after reading this fantastic book. The collaborative writing effort certainly makes this book stand out. Its rare that a self help book becomes a page turner, but that's exactly what this book is. I picked up this book from the library, but I'll be buying my own copy shortly.

I think this book might be unpopular to some as it challenges a lot of old assumptions about psychology, and new age thought. In fact on a couple of occasions this book just flatly ripped on views that I've long held. When most books in this category seem to be repeating the same old thing again and again, I find it thought provoking when someone swims against the tide.

At its essence this book is about using love to combat the fears that most often rule our lives. I first came across the idea of how much our lives are ruled by fear in the first "Conversations with God" book. However, this book actually teaches many methods that help us move beyond our fears... by teaching us how to stop at the fork in the road and use our intellect and spirit to put us on the path of love rather than fear.

Next time you're at the library or book store, pick up this book and read a couple paragraphs.... I'm sure after that you'll want to take it home with you.

Summary: Not for everyone: great for some people, a waste of time for others
Reading through the reviews already written on this book, it's clear that many people found the book to be very helpful, but others (like me) really didn't care for it. This divergence is probably a result of two factors: (a) readers come to the book from widely varying perspectives and circumstances and (b) the book is written in a somewhat idiosyncratic way that simply can't work for everyone. I therefore suggest that potential readers browse the book themselves to decide whether to invest the time to read it, rather than relying too much on reviews by others.

On the positive side, I think the author is sincere in his desire to help the reader and did his best to communicate ideas to achieve that. In that regard, there are a few potentially useful ideas which most readers may not be familiar with, and which might make a genuinely positive difference in people's lives.

On the negative side, I found most of the best ideas to be rather obvious, and the overall framework of ideas seems simplistic, gimmicky, and lacking intellectual depth. I also found the writing style to be rather clunky, making the book a tedious chore to finish. Overall, in my opinion, there are many other books on the subject of happiness which offer deeper, more powerful insights, and which are much better written.

For me, the negatives outweighed the positives, so reading the book was mostly a waste of time. However, as I've noted above, I recognize that other readers may find the book to be quite helpful, so I really recommend that you preview the book for yourself before deciding. Good luck!
Summary: One of the best!
I've read probably 100 books of this type in the past year (yes, it was a very tough year), and this book definitely makes the top five. Why? Because the stories Mr. Baker tells of clients who had everything but were miserable stick vividly with me six months after finishing it. The stories are gripping and poignant. There's the mega rich, the powerful, the rock star, you name it.

The stories are relevant because so many of us spend our lives seeking more money, possessions, status, power, leisure, etc. thinking these things will make us feel like we have enough and are enough. But as Mr. Baker says, "It's just not true." If his examples won't convince you, nothing will.

This book is not without its problems, and I found the "science" aspect of this book so boring I skimmed it as fast as possible to get back to the good stuff. Fortunately there's plenty of good stuff here - enough to still merit a five star rating.

Consider following this title with Chuck Colson's "The Good Life," which contains similar ideas but does a much better job of explaining the spiritual element to living a happy life. The two together are an awesome combination!

Summary: Jblack
Without a doubt this is Zig's best book. It contains principals from all his books and an insight into the way Zig has lived a successful, "Better Than Good" life. Whether you are looking for direction, calling, or just a good motivator this book does it all and I highly recommend every single person read it. You will not be disappointed! An amazing book I plan on reading once a year!
Summary: New ideas from Zig. Best book yet!
Even if you have already read Zig's other books, this one will provide fresh insights. Everyone should read this book as a refresher and inspiration!
Summary: Simply the best
If you are looking for the best Zig has to offer then you will find it here. I have read most of Zigs books and he really has refined his talent at simply summing up the points of successful living. You will find in this book he is more open with his faith than in any other work.

He illustrates 3 areas of life that are necessary for success:
1. Passion
2. Peak performance
3. Purpose

Having read a lot of personal development books including Tony Robbins, Napoleon Hill, John Maxwell, Brian Tracy and many more, I really do believe this is the best collection of ideas on how to be successful. Zig shoots straight and doesn't overstate what people are capable of. Some other personal development guys will do that, "YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!" sort of attitude. Zig doesn't limit. He is just realistic.

The writing is quick and to the point, unlike this review. Great job zig.

Summary: From Rags to Riches - Using Bible to make $$$
The author has no credible education. His degrees are worthless.
The very fact that he is a Jew for Jesus tells you that he is one of those people who would do anthing to be popular. His book is an example of that. He found a huge nitch, the millions of religious folks who are looking to loose weight. Very few will follow his diet, but he will make money on the book and the sale of his supplements. Give the guy a credit - 1 star, for making big bucks while he was destined to be a low-paid peddler with no recognition. That's the real transformation!
Summary: The Maker's Diet
The Maker's Diet is the most balanced book I've ever read concerning the topic of health and wellness. Over the past 15 years I've read so many books that give guidelines on how to stay healthy, or become healthy. The books have ranged from focusing on the physical, emotional or spiritual, but very few have incorporated all three parts. The Maker's Diet presents a holist approach and therefore gives insight into how to make it a part of your entire life, it doesn't just address eating. Most books present a plan that is extremely difficult to maintain for any period of time because they are so far from how most of us are accustomed to living and eating. I believe that The Maker's Diet gives a wonderful common sense approach to living. What I especially like about The Maker's Diet is that it is founded on the Bible. I believe that it is no accident that what God told the Israelites what to eat and what not to eat, so many thousands of years ago, still applies to all of us today, regardless of your spirituality. I encourage everyone to not only read this book, but to incorporate the principles into your life.

If you love this book, then you will love another book called The Truth About Caffeine : How Companies That Promote it Deceive Us and What We Can Do About It. The author is a reformed coffee addict and founder of a non-profit organization called the Caffeine Awareness Alliance. She puts her heart into her quest to make readers understand how caffeine affects the body, the mind and well-being in general, and how the makers of caffeinated products will deceive the public into thinking they are in no danger at all as they chug down eight grande lattes and two cans of Red Bull...in one sitting. I simply was shocked at what I discovered. You will be too so get this book. It is a must read for those searching for health, as well as a balanced lifestyle.
Summary: A mixed bag
There is some interesting information in this book. You will learn things and look at other health-related things in new ways. However, the author is very subjective in his style and often does not cite enough sources for his claims since many of them are due to the health-diet connection he made with the Bible. This is his interpretation and his strong viewpoints may or may not be factual or applicable to certain people. For example, he is completely against soy-based products without making a clear case against soy (numerous studies have pointed to the positive benefits of soy). He considers vegetarians as `wimpy' even though the vegetarian diet is healthy and low in cholesterol and unhealthy fats while also kind to animals and the environment. He has a section on what is `bad' for you with few references and proof points. If you buy the book expecting these pros and cons you will be happier with your purchase.

Summary: Low carb shopping list
This is a low carb book. "Better of with Atkins Book".
Summary: The Book That's Saving Our Lives and Health
My husband and I have eased into this program slowly and gradually. Over the weeks we've integrated healthy, organic foods and replaced unhealthy food choices with fresh fruits, vegetables and kosher meats. We've slowly added certain healthy supplements as well and we BOTH feel an incredible change in our physical health. We've both been so close to death's door, we had to do something and this was a lifesaver. We're on our way to restoration, thanks to this book. We highly recommend it.
Summary: Maker's Diet Book Review
There is considerable redundancy throughout the book.
Because adhering to the guidelines in this book would be a considerable life change, I emailed the author/author's company with several questions. The questions were answered in a commercial manner, i.e., not in a personal manner. One of my major concerns was about the intake of supplements... there is no differrence in the intake of supplements for any of the 3 phases of the diet from the initial phase to the maintenance phase... one would think that once the body has been purged using the supplements, and a person following the diet is eating organic and healthy foods, that the intake of supplements would decrease as the need to cleanse the body would not be as great. The answer I received seemed strictly commercial in that the intake of the supplements is what is recommended. I have not made a decision to try the diet as yet.

Summary: Best book I have ever read
Most informative book ever written. Something to live life by.
Summary: A Must Read, I loved it!!!
This book combines common sense with scientifically based studies showing that a plant based diet is not only healthy but can heal the body. He discusses in detail studies showing that those who eat a plant based diet have 45% less cancer among other diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis etc...

This book is invaluable, it explains how a plant based diet impacts, health, animals, the environment etc... He does so in a very loving way without being preachy, it is brilliant.
Summary: Fantastic!
It's funny how you can end up reading a book you never thought you'd have any interest in. I started out reading Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover which led me to John De Graaf's Affluenza. I ended up with John Robbins' The Food Revolution. Each book has been life changing for me. I have had my eyes opened to the over consumption of this country, but I never would have realized that the way I ate would have as big of an affect on the planet as it does.

I honestly don't know how anyone can read this book and not come away a changed person. The book is well written and flows easily from chapter to chapter. This man knows what he's talking about. Do yourself and the planet a favor and give it a read.
