Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: the book to read I recommend this book. Read once for an overview, Read a second time for the lightbulb moments and a third time to change the way you do business. Summary: Fantastic Book Waiting for Your Cat to Bark hits home. I have been trying to understand the new marketplace and our company's place in it for quite some time. I now have a clearer understanding on how to answer my customers needs when I market to them. This book was also helpful in identifying how to answer our potential client's questions. It does not matter if their contact with us is on the phone, email, web site, direct mail, or even our trucks- we have to make sure that our message and image is consistent with their expectations. Otherwise we both loose. Thanks Bryan and Jeffrey. Steve Sorenson Owner-One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning Oshkosh, Wisconsin Summary: Waiting for Your Cat to Bark Every man and his dog teach how to sell but very few teach how customers buy and how to marry the two processes. Waiting for Your Cat to Bark does just that. It teaches you how to open up multiple sales piplines. If you want to make more sales and grow your business you need to buy this book. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Cat Bordhi is a knitting goddess She takes what could be a very difficult thing, knitting socks on two circs instead of 4 or 5 dpns, and makes it understandable and fun to do. My cousin recommended this book to me after teaching me how to knit on dpns. I haven't tried all the patterns yet, but I'm sure to. Summary: Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles: a Manual of Elegant Knitting Techniques and Patterns his is interesting and a new way for me to make socks. I have seen it being done and wanted to learn. Summary: Very good book I have been very pleased with this book. I love to knit socks but always have managed to lose a needle. Plus four are harder to keep track of. I even sent Cat an email because I wasn't for sure what the weight of yarn was that was called for on one of her patterns. That busy woman answered me real quick. If you ever hesitate about knitting socks buy this book. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: A Treasury of Magical Knitting A lovely little book, and a challenge for the intermediate to experienced knitter. The instructions were well-written and my first project came out as expected. Cat Bordhi's second book is on my Christmas list! Summary: A fascinating teacher I attended one of Cat's classes recently and when I arrived home I began to read her Magical Knitting books. In class we were all spellbound by this woman's spirit and cleverness and also her cheerful sense of humor! Her writing is very much the same. She is very easy to learn from, a true teacher in my view. She made everyone feel comfortable and was so supportive. In her books and in her class she explains things several different ways to help everyone understand. She is very patient too. Her designs are outstanding. I highly recommend her books and her classes! I am having great fun with the knitting she taught. Summary: Wake up and smell the roses for weary knitters I've never reviewed a book before but this one deserves it. Of all the knitting books out there (and there are so many now) this one stands alone. For a knitter like me (weary of seeing either another sweater pattern or too many exceedingly young and hip designs) this book contains a new world of excitement. It took a leap of faith to believe the method would work because it seems like it can't possibly. Luckily the author explains everything in such friendly detail that it becomes easy. After a weekend with the book I had the unusual sensation of feeling like I knew the author, like reading a good novel and feeling like you know the characters. That is how clear and friendly the writing and instructions are. The book is very beautiful too. Throughout are nature photos that take my breath away. The model is enchanting and shows the scarfs, wraps, felted boots, and capes very clearly. The print size is large enough to read really easily and the book lies open pretty well. It's the kind of book you can knit from and enjoy reading too. I rushed right into the knitting because I was impatient but later I went back and read the first chapters where there is a story about how the Moebiuis was discovered in Germany more than a hundred years ago. It's a funny story and I'll leave you to read it for yourself. I highly, highly recommend this unusual book. The knitting is absurdly easy once you get going. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: An almost overwhelming amount of information If you are one of those people that want to be able to find answers to questions on your own, no matter how technical, this is a good book for you. First, this review is being written from the perspective of a pet owner, NOT a veterinarian. I do have 20 years experience interacting with human clinicians (doctor, pharmacists, nurses, etc.) so I am familiar with more medical jargon than most people. However, I believe that a motivated student could gain a lot of knowledge from this book. I have used it much more than I anticipated since I got it. The book covers the following animals: Dogs Cates Small Mammals (Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents) Reptiles Birds However, the majority of the focus of the book is on dogs and cats. There is an entire chapter dedicated to homemade pet food and all the considerations that are required if you are going to undertake such an endeavor. There is far more to it than I realized to make certain that your animal is getting all the nutrients that they require for good health. The book covers a lot of simple information like how many calories to feed an animal varied by age and activity level. There are entire chapters dedicated to Nutritional Management of Animals that are experiencing health problems, these are: Hospitalized patients Obesity Adverse Reactions to Food Skin and Hair Disorders Dental Disease Orthopedic Disease in Dogs Cardiovascular Disease Renal Disease Canine Urolithiasis Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease Gastrointestinal and Exocrine Pancreatic Disease Hepatobiliary Disease Endocrine and Lipid Disorders Cancers Fatty Acids in Inflammatory Disease Dietary Effects on Drug Metabolism If you have a question about nutrition for your dog or cat, the answer is undoubtedly in this book somewhere. If you aren't familiar with medical terminology and don't want to be, this might not be the best book for you. However, if you are a motivated student, you can gain a lot from this book even without a current knowledge of medical terminology. I highly recommend this book to animal lovers that want to make the best nutritional choices for the furry members of their family. Summary: Very technical but very useful. The 4th edition of Small Animal Clinical Nutrition is significantly different from the first 3 editions -- expanded, more information, different editors, different organization, etc. Much of this volume is more technical than the average reader wants or needs. It is a textbook used in veterinary schools. But a dedicated reader could gain much from it. Even the average reader could benefit from the chapters on commerical pet foods and on home prepared diets. Summary: Contributions Is good to see this book is not just written by nutriologist, there is an important contribution of clinicians dedicated to specific areas. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: My Pet Bible! There is no better advice and help you can get than using this book. His first one I still have, the binding is gone and it is dog earred and the pages loose, but I have marks and all on it and use it all the time. I cannot recommend it more. This book will help you in helping your animals without the use of chemicals, antibiotics and drugs. Do yourself a favor and buy it... and more important, once you do, use it... !! Then, check out your area for a naturopathic vet. You will not be sorry. Summary: It saved a life I'm looking to add other books to my library, but I'll always keep this book on hand. But I can tell you this story. My neighbor's cat was sent home to die after she had spent about $2,000 at the regular vet. The vet said there was no hope or anything that could be done, and the cat would die within weeks. Its' kidney had pretty much stopped working. I loaned my neighbor Pitcairn's book with the right pages marked, she followed his instructions about changes in diet and adding the right herbs. That was TWO years ago. The cat immediately got better and is extremely healthy now. All the vet said was (after $2,000 of tests, blood work, exams, treatments) "I guess we must have mis-diagnosed her" as his explanation why the cat had regained its health. I told my neighbor she should have told the vet that the cat was cured by lighting candles, casting spells, burning incense, and feeding the cat buffalo droppings----the vet would probably have believed that story more than believing a change in diet and adding herbs saved the cat who he had said had "no hope" after taking all her money. Summary: Comprehensive on diet & health I'd reviewed the 2nd edition version when I was looking into a more natural diet for my puppies on the advice of my holistic vet. In fact I was using the diet until my youngest started gaining weight and they were worried that the grains were causing the weight gain. I switched to raw meat and pureed veggies instead. Turns out that she was low thyroid. The diets are still heavy on grains. Great for the majority of dogs I'm sure. The upside is that there are nutritional analysis of all the diets included so you know why you're including each of the components. There are also special diets included for allergies, weight loss and gain. I also like the information on various health issues and vaccinosis that is included. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: This is the one that made everything click Maybe you're like me: You've read all the screenwriting books you're "supposed" to read; you know the ones I'm talking about. And you have all this information swilling around in your brain about genre and character and structure ... yet none of it gels in a way that is remotely useful when it comes time to sit at the keyboard. You're missing some elusive something that will make it all fall into place, some secret alchemy that those successful ratbags know and are deliberately keeping from the rest of us. That was me. Completely stalled, wracked in a frustrated limbo of knowing I have what it takes, but crippled and unable to move. In desperation, I finally decided to find a writer's group or a professional mentor, no matter what it cost. Then I read this book; and this book is both. And more. Never has a book made such an immediate and profound impact on me. Any one of the sections would be worth the price in itself. The chapter on genre was the most brilliant and insightful I've ever read: after months of going around in circles trying to figure out whether the piece I was working on was a DramaCrimeActionComedy or not, I had almost given up on the concept altogether. Then I read Snyder's 10 "home-made" genres that group films not by their section in the video store, but by their stripped-down, broad story-type. It's a total paradigm-shift that's been beautifully honed to perfection. And it's just one of many sections that for me was the intellectual equivalent of taking off tight shoes. I could go on, but I'm not going to. If you've ever wanted to have someone sit next to you while you write, someone who can finally give you the goods - not a dry academic or a smug industry-type but one of the alchemists who writes and sells spec scripts for a living - then for the love of Mike, buy this book. It's subtitled, "The last book on screenwriting you'll ever need." A bold statement, but for me, absolutely true. And I have a feeling that if I'd bought this one first, it would have been the ONLY one I'd have ever needed. Summary: The last book Blake breaks down the unspoken rules of what sells in Hollywood into easy to read short sharp chapters. If you have talent and you read his book then it may well be the last book on screenwriting you will ever need. As for the people saying it is not the last book you will need, well thats good, he's currently writing another one called 'Save The Cat Goes To The Movies' ! Summary: This Book Saved My Life! First off, I don't usually write rave reviews or a headline like the one above. And maybe a part of my loving this book is that this book came at the right time in my writing life. Which is to say that it's possible that other books would have impacted me the way that this one did. Having said that, I can only say that after reading it, I feel certain that I will finish a script I was totally stymied on. I do not like many movies, and I like precious few commercial ones. So I have been quite resistant to thinking in terms of loglines and the correct page numbers when your "beats" must occur. As a result it was hard for me to relate to portins of this book -- e.g. Blake's rapture over the title "Legally Blond" or his excited beat-by-beat breakdown of "Miss Congeniality," a movie he obviously likes and that I haven't seen but know I would hate. But after reading this book, I figured, what the hell (when you're stuck, you'll try about anything). I'm going to try to create a logline for my movie. And guess what? I couldn't do it. I couldn't come up with a succinct way to describe my movie, as Blake suggests in the book. My first reaction (lasted about a month) was: who cares? The movies I love can't be described in a logline. End of story. But then as I kept pushing myself to create a good logline, I started to realize that my movie was muddled. And this had a lot to do with why I was stuck. So I kept re-working my logline until my logline met Blake's conditions for a good logline. And this led to me seeing my story more clearly. Is my story now more commercial, less artistic? I don't know. Less original? I hope not. All I know is I'm moving forward. And I can't help but give this book a lot of credit for this. Summary: |
