Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Best with data and best to read After years of reading, and turning wrenches I think this is the best so far. Not only for readability (is this English?) but also specifications. This book tells you When to pull the engine and Why. Then tons of specific data will be given and even more important how and where to measure!! If you ever go in this kind of stuff, rebuilding your engine, this book is a good buy. BR. Arnoud. Summary: Interesting This book has everything you wanted to know about the Chevy Smallblock. It gets kinda wordy, and very technical for someone who just wants to play around. If you are serious about rebuilding the Chevy Smallblock perfectly then get this book Summary: How to rebuild Smallblock Chevys I have used this book in my business for about 10 years. It is used both as a reference and a training aid for my customers. It is indispensible and there is no other book in my extensive library to compare with it. I highly recommend it to both the novice and professional. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: Chilton book just O.K. I have just started doing multiple maintainance projects on a 94 coupe. Chilton helps but since the book spans the complete C-4 generation it can be confusing depending on which engine you have. There is a critical error on spark plug gap. The books gives .035 for all years. The later models take a .050 gap. Double check your year before install. It is difficult to get the plugs in, you don,t want to do it twice. The graphics in the book are not great and the black and white pictures seem hard to see in some cases. Summary: for the arm chair mechanic only! While this book gives overall information, it is lacking much of what is needed by the wrench that is doing the hands on repairs. If someone else is doing the work and you want to know what is being done then this book will suffice. Summary: for the arm chair mechanic only! Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Not a Good Book For Canadian Built Cars This book is very good if you have a US built Chevelle. Has no Info on Canadian Built Chevelles. You can find more info on the web than what's in this book. Summary: Great for Everything! We have had this book ever since we restored a 1970 ElCamino. We are currently in the middle of a 1971 Monte Carlo, and although some of the information is different, much of it is accurate for the MC as well. Our friends borrow this book so often we have to sign it out to them. Currently it is invaluable in researching a 1975 Nova. As with the MC, most of the information is the same (paint codes, etc.). I highly recommend this book to anyone researching their car! Summary: The BEST way to properly identify the validity of a car. This book gives just the right amount of detail to provide the car owner or a buyer with what the numbers really mean. It will also tell you in a hurry whether the equipment on your car is truly "original" I have accurately identified my 71 Elky as well as many others. It is also a great reference when buying an "original" car. As some options for some cars were not identified by the factory apart from the original build sheet, the book only tells you about the numbers that you can find on various components. As an example, a 1970 SS was not identified by any of the numbers as an SS except on the build sheet. However, as any knowledgable enthusiast knows, the build number of the car (6 digits) is also stamped on the front of the block. All in all a great book. Excellent for the Classic Chevy enthusiast Library. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Great for a beginner, nearly worthless for more advanced readers Another book that I had high hopes for, only to be let down. I was looking for some real insider secrets from a leading engine builder. I spent 10 years in the engine rebuilding business and now do it only as a hobby. I am always on the lookout for great books on the subject. This book is not one of them. Smokey Yunick's Power Secrets is a much better buy, although it doesn't talk about fuel injection. If you are a beginner in the engine building world, then by all means read this book, then read Smokey's Power Secrets. Summary: This is the Chevy small block book I was looking for. Finally, someone wrote a book for me. The book "John Lingenfelter on Modifying Small-Block Chevy Engines: High Performance Engine Building and Tuning for Street and Racing" is the book I have been looking for. In the past I have bought and read several books on this particular subject and believed them to be quite good. John Lingenfelter's version of small block rebuilding is a refreshing view and goes into detail that makes the "how and why" simple to follow and understand without over explaining. Maybe it's just that I needed a more advanced book, but, this book is the one that exceeded my expectations. I look forward to John Lingenfelter on Modifying Olds Rocket Engines. Summary: Small block bible Wow, where do I begin? John Lingenfelter is like the god of small block Chevy's. I love his approach of bigger isn't better. It's how everything is in tune with every component of the car. He dispels a lot of myths and sets a lot of things straight. I don't want to give anything away about the book. It's a good read and a wealth of knowledge. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Comprehensive *MAINTENANCE* guide for Camaros This is a very comprehesive condensed version of the official mechanic's service manuals for 1967-1981 Camaros. It is not very easy to read, and you really need to have at least a little automotive background to understand parts of it. It tells you everything you need to know about servicing the Camaro, but it doesn't explain some things in sufficient detail for the first-time mechanic. If you need instructions on how to service and maintain a Camaro (for example, tuning a carburetor), this book is probably only bested by its source, the official Chevrolet service manual for your car. However, this Chilton's manual is both less expensive and easier to find, and is an excellent place to start. If you're looking for a restoration guide (meaning you're planning on repairing or rebuilding rather than servicing the car), you'd be better served by either Tom Currao & Ron Sessions' "Camaro Restoration Handbook" or Jason Scott's "Camaro Restoration Guide" (for 1967-1969 cars), depending on what sort of information you are looking for. Refer to my reviews of either of these books for more specific information. My main complaint about the Chilton's manual is actually that it has a little too much information. Finding what I need to know for my 1969 SS Coupe can be a hassle, when I'm having to deal with every model and variant between 1967 and 1981. Now that I've acquired a copy of the service manual specific to my car, I generally use it first, then turn to the Chilton's guide if I still need information. Summary: It doesn't tell you anything. This manual is the worst I've ever read, it doesn't include the positrack rear end, and only tells how to change the fluid. It tells you to disconect the negative battery cable to change the rear wiew miror. Summary: Well written To the person who entered the first review: That's because you should have some mechanical ability before attempting to work on your car. Jeez - learn to read. It's common sense how to disassemble and assemble most things in a car. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Chevy by the Numbers 1965 - 1969 By using this book, I figured out what year and model the block, heads and assembly date were for the motor in my 1956 Chevy Nomad. I new nothing about the motor. I now know what I have. Mike M. Summary: Essential Chevrolet by the numbers is currently THE book for looking up Chevrolet casting numbers. Colvin includes information on just about any crankshaft, block, head, intake, carb, exhaust manifold, water pump, distributor, camshaft, rear axle. Small block as well as W-motor and big block is covered. Four volumes cover 1955-1975. Applications and some illustrations are provided. You will see some specific engineering illustrations for some unique blocks, intakes, cylinder heads and etc. Many photos are also included. Besides the casting numbers, Colvin breaks down casting and manufacturing dates. One area where this book really shines is the section covering carbs. Every Holley, Carter, and Rochester used is listed. For instance, you will be able to look up exactly which Rochester 2bbl was used on a 1967 283 with auto trans, air conditioning, and Federal emissions, -vs- the carb used on a 283 auto without air, or a 283 with a stick and A/C, or a 283 with an automatic trans, A/C, and California emissions. To put it another way, if you want to know which of at least 6 different two barrel carbs was installed on your 1967 283, this is probably the only way to get that information. The section covering the Quadrajets, Carters, and Holley carbs is just as good. This is a wonderful book for your auto library. I have seen some, but not many errors. If you go to swap meets, or shop on ebay, this book will save you the purchase price many times over. Summary: Super guide for GM gearheads!!! I work in a full line GM dealership and we have a copy of this and it's worn out from using as help to find parts and to see who's got what for sale when all they can tell you is a casting or part number. This guy did tons of homework on this book BEFORE he printed one. Summary: |
