Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent Book I can attest first-hand that the authors' methods of dealing with situational or specific anxiety in children works. My oldest son, now 14, had many fears, including thunderstorms and severe separation anxiety. We tried traditional "talk" therapy for many years with several different therapists, with no success. We finally found a cognitive therapist who was able to work with him with great success. My middle son has recently been in therapy with Elizabeth Spencer to handle anxiety about sleeping away from home, a problem he continued to have despite talk therapy with three different therapists. Elizabeth was able to get to the meat of my son's anxiety, help him understand why his brain was reacting the way it was, and what to do to overcome it. I'm please to report we had our last appointment today, and my son has had a summer of successful sleepovers and a week-long vacation, all without any anxiety. Summary: A Must read for Parents helping their child deal with Anxiet I have read many books on anxiety as I have a 12 year old who has suffered with Anxiety for years. This book was by far the most useful, and well thought out. It gives you detailed information on what causes anxiety. It also gives you lots of infomation on the different solutions: When to seek professional help, what different medicines do. It includes specific tips to help your child. The use of the Dragon (Your Anxieties) and the Wizard (the smart guy that can help you overcome them) helped explain in my son's terms the feelings he as been having. Its like the light bulb went off for him. The journal keeping has been a huge help to him as he tackles his dragon. This book is a must have for parents of children suffering from Anxiety. Summary: a must for anyone dealing with an anxious child The Anxiety Cure for Kids is an important resource for any parent or mental health professional in dealing with an anxious child. The suggested strategies for handling the "dragon" are very helpful and are easily understood. This book is user friendly. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: Science it is not The first red flag - "About the author" at the top of this page. Beware of the authors advertised by the major media outlets. Among other nonsense, this book promotes a failed AA 12-step approach and other myths such as marijuana being a gateway drug. Do yourself a favor and do some serious research instead of wasting your time here. Pathetic and laughable. Summary: Best Resource Available I have found this to be an excellent resource for every aspect of addiction. Dr. Robert Dupont is emminently qualified to author this text. He does an excellent job of personalizing his writing with examples from his practice. He offers a message of hope for addicts and their families. It is a tome, but a very readable one, and he even includes (in the introduction) a way to "speed read" it in 2.5 hours. I read it twice in a weekend and am about to order my third copy! (I just seem to find people to give them to). Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great Six Sigma Roadmap To non-believers, Six Sigma often seems to be a valhalla, inhabited by a mythic warrior caste (Black Belts) who communicate in a language few can devine. Linsenmann and Harry take the mystery out of a Six Sigma deployment. They give real life examples with real life people to show how Six Sigma transformed the DuPont company. This book does not dwell on p values or r squared correlation factors. And that is a good thing, since the specific tools of Six Sigma have been addressed in many other forums. Instead, the book addresses the more difficult question of how do you change the culture of a large organization to embrace Six Sigma. It addresses the organizational changes necessary for success and how DuPont in particular made those changes. Summary: User Friendly Six Sigma book Great book! Very easy and interesting read. Explains things in a step-by-step manner with great examples. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Interesting and Different Kay writes this book more for the general reader, but reading it from the Historian point of view is not altogether lost either. There are a few misquoted facts, but the good thing about this was the author's willingness to point this out in her introduction and explain why she took the route she choose. This single aspect does not take away from the whole of the story. The only disapointment I found personally were the lacking of expansions for some of the entries. She began to weave an interesting tale; and then it ended quickly, leaving more questions than answers for myself, and I would have loved to have seen more details since Kay obviously knew about Mary Todd, and wanted to give her character justice. Taken together, this formula worked successfully, and I do hope to see other novels like this in the future. -Lincoln09 Summary: Enjoyable, Educational, Engaging As the saying goes, "behind every successful man is a woman." And many adjectives have been used to describe those women and their ways. They could probably all apply to Mary Todd Lincoln, the woman behind the 16th President of the United States. Abraham Lincoln has been the subject of a considerable amount of historical writing, both fiction and non-fiction. Loving Mr. Lincoln is beautifully written, captivating historical fiction. The reader is asked to believe that Mary Todd Lincoln's diaries were discovered in an old trunk purchased at a flea market. The tale is certainly feasible, grabbing the reader's attention immediately. What follows is a representation of what Mary Todd's diary might have been from December 13, 1939 to the day her husband was shot at Ford's Theatre, April 15, 1865. In between, the reader will find page after fascinating page of dated diary entry records that seem awfully real. As in any well-written historical fiction, I couldn't tell you for sure if what I was reading was actually written by Mary Lincoln. Frankly, the more I read, the less I cared about who wrote the words, the alleged diarist or Kay duPont. I was hooked. The experience of viewing history through the eyes of this controversial figure was intriguing. I learned a lot, gained a deeper appreciation for the human side of history, and saw the Lincoln legend from a new perspective. The author has obviously done her homework. After you read this book, you'll be telling others how much you enjoyed it. You'll probably agree with the Georgia Writers Association that Loving Mr. Lincoln deserves the recognition they bestowed as the winner of their Fiction Award. Prepare to be engaged from the first page! Summary: Fact or Fiction? Who would know. Who knew what a romantic and visionary Mary Todd Lincoln was. Whether fact or fiction M. Kay duPont gives us a powerful and at times "delicious" insights of a (much) misunderstood era of American history. duPont gives the reader an easy to read story of a very complex, strong and driven woman. One who became a power, if not the power, behind a President. Mary Todd Lincoln comes alive in this book.... you will grow to admire her, want to comfort her in your arms... while scolding her at the same time. duPont gives you insightful compassions of her struggles and tragic personal losses. The reader will come to appreciate these struggles (she) and our country went through during this era of American history. Most of all the reader may come to realize that had Mary Todd been a woman of the 21st Century, (perhaps) Mr. Lincoln would be known as the man behind her. Good luck with future publications, wish you all the success you deserve. Paula L.Eichner Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Good guide If you are working with Stata this book will be a good help to understand the basic concepts of the multivarite analysis. Summary: Accessible Intermediate Text Dupont's "Statistical Modeling for Biomedical Researchers" is an accessible, straightforward, easy-to-read text for students and/or researchers w/ some elementary background in biostatistics. As previous reviewers have indicated, this is largely a problem-based text, so for those of you who seek a detailed theoretical explanation of the tools presented therein, you may want to look elsewhere. A major advantage, however, is Dupont's presentation of how to run the respective analyses using the statistical software package, Stata, although it should be noted that the syntax presented is for version 7 of Stata -- not version 8. Parenthetically, all of the code -- w/ the exception of the graphing commands -- are essentially the same between versions. In short, this text is a good introduction to some of the techniques typically not discussed in an elementary biostatistics course, although the book is best characterized as an invaluable adjunct to more theoretical, comprehensive biostatistics textbooks. Summary: Very useful during statistics class I used this book as the text for a biostatistics class that used STATA as the statistitical package. I found the organization, problems, and the STATA output the book provides, all very helpful. In addition, as I moved systematically through the book, the tips regarding using the STATA features were key to my learning many of the practical aspects of the STATA program. Summary: |
