Summary: As usual, "Dummies do it Again"
A great place to start if you really don't know anything about the subject. Full of useful stuff.
Summary: Review: Real Estate Investing for Dummies
This is one of the most helpful books on the topic of real esate investing. I read the book once and still find myself reguarly referring to this book as a guide book. It covers all of the fundamentals of real estate investing. Although it is written with the novice in mind, I am sure that even an experienced investor will find some helpful nuggets of information in this book.

Summary: Real Estate Investing for Dummies
This is an excellent book for beginners as well as experiences investors. It covers all of the basics and full of tips for all, experienced or not as of yet.
They speak in a common language that is easy to understand, not so complex or over your head. They are very knowledgeable in the real-estate field and it shows through this book.
At this time I own 2 doubles, 1 condo, and a 4-unit and I found it full of useful information and tips. I would recommend the purchase.

Summary: excel
this is a real good book if you want to get the basic of it.
Summary: I can't find anything on pivot tables
I already knew almost everything in this book, so I was disappointed when it arrived and I started looking through it. I ordered it hoping it would give me a simple explanation "for dummies" on what pivot tables are and how to create/work with them. They're not even listed in the index!

This book is great at covering all the very basic how-tos for someone who's never worked with Excel before; but it doesn't delve deeply enough into what the program can really do.
Summary: Well Pleased
This book is well-written, easily understood and met all my expectations.

Summary: Outstanding introduction or re-introduction!
This book explains the major (and many minor) components of catholic faith including- The structure of the church (with a good&short outline of history in the back), the total outline of the mass and what it means, what the sacraments are, how the cathlic church interprets the 10 commandments (very enlightening- for any Christian!), the steps one takes to becomming catholic, the eucharist and transubstantiation, and the church's position (and biblical basis) for issues on the death penalty, abortion, euthenasia, birth control, etc. It even devotes an entire chapter to what the Virgin Mary is for catholics. It includes how to say the rosary in detail and gives several other common prayers. The ONLY thing I didn't find in here were mass responses.

This is well thought, humorous, and an easy read. Very informative! Definately recommend!
Summary: Good reference book. Answers FAQs.
Often looking for a book to recommend to those who ask me for an introduction to Catholicism, I pick up a number of introduction books on a regular basis. I came across "Catholicism for Dummies" in a bookstore while browsing and picked it up with the expectation of being disappointed. To my pleasant surprise, I was not.

While this book is composed of "just the facts" with little breadth, it is a surprisingly complete basis for further inquiry. I found that this is more appropriately a reference book than an introduction. Composed in a systematic way, this book outlines those issues of greatest import and most likely the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). While it clearly lacks the ability to do any reasonable justice to the depth of Catholic theology and teaching, it is a solid starting point.

If you are looking for a sound reference book that calls for your attention with its distractingly bright yellow cover - this book is for you! If you don't mind being a dummy.

Summary: Catholicism for Anyone...
This book was helpful and fun to read! I found myself highlighting tidbits and it answered many of my questions. It is filled with so much useful information, including technical stuff, and random trivia. After my husband reads it, I'll probably go through it again.

I was born into a Catholic family and attended Methodist Church growing up. My husband was raised Southern-Baptist and now wants to join the Catholic Church. I bought the book to refresh my memory on why we do the things we do at mass - and I was extremely pleased.

Whether you are Catholic, are joining the church for the first time, or just curious and like to have all the answers - this book is a really good read.

Summary: Good Financial Overview/Resource
I originally saw this book on my friend's bookshelf. Seeing that my friend is now an estate planner and found this book useful, I decided (as a financial novice) to take a look. And I must say that I am most pleased.

Unlike a few other reviewers, I found the book enjoyable to read from cover to cover even though there are sections/chapters that are not immediately applicable. I certainly gained a fundamental understanding for many basic financial concepts and strategies.

This book is not expected to be a sole guide to shaping your financial life, but a starting point especially for those who have not thought/know much about it. And Tyson thoroughly encourages more individual research into topics when making decisions.

Overall, this book is a very good read and quite helpful with your financial understanding.
Summary: Best for people with medium skills.
RICH CHICKS BE AWARE! This book can get outdated fast because some of the financial and tax information changes from year to year reducing. So look at the edition of the book and the year published, in the "dummy series" a good personal guide is that if it older that 10 years it is a throw-away. This particular book is worth buying for information on larger concepts like paying a little extra on your mortgage and determining an acceptable level of risk to guide your investment choices. It is also a good book if you are looking for new ideas and basic information on understanding how money works and the strategies to get yourself out of debt. Just check on new laws before you go out and try the advice. This book is meant to be scrolled through as a reference and then the reader picks out the information that is right for them. It is NOT a cover to cover read so the parts of the material will apply to the novice and the medium trained. This is not an advanced book so if you are looking for great detail the "dummy" series is not for you. It is only in paperback because it is a toss away book. The average consumer will find at least one tip in here that will be worth the second hand price.

RICH CHICKS specializes in financial education and we review media that is purchased by women. We have reviews all over this site and write on a variety of subjects.
Summary: Very Helpful even if Finance isn't your favorite subject
I'll be honest. I hate finance! Even my own. That's why I have a financial planner. But I have always been frustrated with my lack of knowledge on the topic. Even if you have a financial planner, you still want to know what he or she is talking about, right? Well, this book does an excellent job of explaining all of this and more! I feel so much more in control and knowledgeable. I'll still never be an expert -- mostly because it's not the area I wuold want to be an expert in. But now I feel more comfortable on the topic even if it's in casual conversation. It will definitely stay with me for a long time as a resource.

Summary: Bone up on your algebra/geometry/trig first...
For a geezer like me who's been away from math an infinity+ (pun intended), I'd recommend checking out the prereq Dummies book first. But, once you do, Calculus For Dummies and the accompanying workbook are a fun adventure thanks to the author's merciful and witty style. Just don't leave these two volumes lying on your coffee table unless you wish to impress company with your nerdiness !
Summary: Great Book, from Author of "Calculus In Focus"
Calculus for Dummies is a masterfully written exposition that excels in clarity. If you have been out of school for a long time but are looking for a clearly written, quick review, I highly recommend it. I also believe that this book is a must as a companion to the main text for calculus students having a tough time. It does not have many solved examples, but clarifies the concepts in a remarkable way. Covers the standard topics in a first semester course such as limits, derivatives, max-min problems, and integration. I believe they have published a workbook which would be essential to really grasping the subject since this one doesn't have solved problems in abundance.
Summary: a terrific resource
I took Calculus I and II in college and managed to get a decent grade without really understanding it. This book rectified that. If my kids take calculus, I'll lend them my copy of Calculus for Dummies.

Summary: "REAL DUMMIE" BEFORE..WITH THIS BOOK,MAKES A BEGINNER FEEL LESS LIKE A "DUMMIE"
MY FIRST COMPUTER...(DID NOT HELP THAT THE COMPUTER WAS A LEMON, AND THE COMPANY REPLACED IT)I NOT ONLY DID NOT UNDERSTAND "COMPUTER" LANGUAGE, I DID NOT EVEN KNOW HOW TO TURN IT OFF WITH OR WITHOUT POWER-BUTTON. ANY ONE WANTING TO KNOW "HOW TO" SHOULD GET THIS BOOK. LIKE IT SAYS..YOU DON'T SIT AND READ IT LIKE A NOVEL...YOU HAVE A QUESTION...YOU LOOK IT UP IN THE BOOK...NOW IF SOMEONE WOULD COME UP WITH A COMPUTER DICTIONARY FOR ALL THE TERMS ETC. USED IN "COMPUTER LANGUAGE"!!!! BUY THIS...YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
Summary: Its not a teaching book.
The book for the most part is having a discussion with you about Windows XP. Offering comments or critiques. It is not a book that I would recommend for learning via book. A Few areas actually go into depth. I see it as a PowerPoint presentation discussion about basics XP and should have been sold as. It lacked detail in networking and wireless needed for many user/owner issues.
Summary: Windows XP For Dummies, 2nd Edition
As stated and well known to most, the "...For Dummies" series of books is aimed at beginners. That doesn't take away from the valuable information that is included in their send up of Windows XP and believe or not I still refer to it for it's other stated purpose - "a reference for the rest of us."
Because of the nature and audience level of expertise, IT STILL IS a fantastic basic reference and I have used it to find broader subjects and to narrow my search in both my higher level references on XP - "Windows XP: The Missing Manual" and "Windows XP Inside Out Second Deluxe Edition". Using a computer and a new operating system is like riding a bike. The Dummies series are the ones to get when you still need training wheels on flat ground. It makes the basis of knowledge found in more advanced references (ones that are well written, anyway as the two I've mentioned)easier to understand and become proficient and confidentwith the subject matter at higher levels.
I think the book is worth the cost when you're first starting out.

Summary: Statistics for Dummies is the bomb
I am very impressed with the Statistics for Dummies book. It is well written and really helped me grasp a basic understanding of statistics. The formulas that the author has provided are very helpful. The author really knows her stuff and has written a book that can help everyone understand the complex world of statistics.
Summary: Good intro - clear but too repetitive
Definitely does the job it sets out to do but could have done it without so much repetition hence only gets 3 stars.
Summary: Not the college refresher I'd hoped for
This book covers material that would be found in the early to mid-level phases of a college Statistics course. I was hoping for a deeper refresher, short of re-reading my college texts and notes, and this wasn't the place to find it.

Nonetheless, there are positives worth considering. This book spends a good amount of time discussing normal distributions, the errors encountered in sampling a population, and the testing of hypotheses based on sample statistics. In particular, the explanations for using a Z-distribution or t-distribution were much clearer than any I'd ever read in several university texts. In fact, the textual descriptions are among the most valuable portions of the book, in part because the quantitative portions are scarce.

On the bad side, waaay too much space is devoted to public surveys and the confidence you should or should not place in them. Those chapters could have been condensed into a single entry, and the repeated examples of misleading or incorrect statistical measures were not necessary. There's also virtually nothing on probabilities, the study of which is usually linked to statistics in the introductory courses.

There's simply not enough valuable material to make this a good choice for college prep or refresher material, and as an introductory text, you'll find better alternatives as well.

Summary: Excellent introduction
I was a typical "I'm not a wine person" person until a few friends introduced me to some tasty wines. I then bought this book and it completely enhanced my appreciation of wine. Wine for Dummies didn't make me a wine expert (I don't know that I'll ever be one), but it gave me a solid basis for at least knowing how to appreciate wines by terroir and varietal (and even just knowing what those words mean!) and furthering my excitement of this wonderful hobby. I look forward to many more fabulous tastes and furthering my knowledge on the subject. If you don't think you're a wine person, buy this book and at least give it a chance - it could change your perspective on food and give you a new appreciation of life forever!
Summary: GREAT FOR BEGINERS
This is a great book for all of those who are interested in wine. It's very well written and very simple. It makes it easy to understand the many things about drinking, choosing, tasting, etc.. unlike those fancy and expensive books that are somehow hard to understand if you don't have any knowledge of the subject.
Summary: Funny and Informative
One of the things I found most enjoyable about this book was its amusing approach to wine and wine drinkers. All kidding aside, this book is filled with lots of great information about wine. It is actually much more comprehensive than I ever would have expected. Good book!
