Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: great certification tool!!! great certification tool!!! but u will need also transcenders for exam preparation. contact me on my gmail account (certstuff). i will send u a list of transcenders i can sell u, 10$ each one. thnks Summary: Working on your MCSE? Then get this set of books This was my sole study guide for the MCSE Server 2003 based certification path, and I was not disappointed. The format is clear and easy to read. The books do a fantastic job of outlining WHY you are learning something, not just WHAT you need to know to pass the exam. I think this is what sets MS Press books apart from the competition: the book itself is structured to the best LEARNING format, and NOT to just passing the exam. I came away from these books with a much greater appreciation for Microsoft's Server and AD technologies (I come from a Linux background since 1995 and I'm the first to knock MS), and these books will be on your reference shelf for years to come -- or at least until the next version of Server ships. It took me since August, 2005 until August, 2006 to obtain my MCSE. These books are BIG. You'll find yourself re-reading chapters multiple times. First to get the content, then to do the practice questions and end of lesson/end of chapter questions, then finally to review the end of lesson/end of chapter summaries right before writing the exam. But don't be discouraged. The knowledge that these books impart will allow you to THINK through the exam questions, rather than just basing it on memorization techiques. If you're going to do your MCSE and really want to LEARN, then get these texts. If you just want to pass the exams and never work on Servers, then look elsewhere. Summary: Well Done. I've belonged to the Unix world since 1993, working with low level stuff as kernel, device drivers, virus, assembly, C, etc.. and now I'm trying to learn Windows a bit and have enough conditions to take all tests (290, 291, 293, 294). No problems. This a very good kit about MS Windows 2003, well written, well organized and deserve 5 stars. Dan Holme worried with all details for us and provided a clear text about MS Windows 2003. Stay calm. It's very easy to take the exam. Alex (Sao Paulo - Brazil) Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Reviews, anyone? This is an excellent textbook, one that I have used in two of my Environmental Science classes (namely, Environmental Problems of Man [Bio 11], and Energy for the Future [Envi Sci 1].) While not completely without bias (which is mostly subtle, and not totally incorrect), the book offers a solid introduction to many environmental issues. The introduction chapter of the textbook states that environmental science is interdisciplinary, and the book is laid out accordingly. Chapters run the gamut from biology, chemisty, simple physics, and pure ecological common sense. An excellent purchase for any serious scientist and/or conscientious environmentalist. Summary: hmm I'm kinda dissappointed because the seller stated that this book is hardcovered. But when I received it, it was copied and paperback. Summary: Required Reading I bought this book for my class because it was cheaper at Amazon than at my school's bookstore. (shipping was cheaper too!) It's not an exciting read, but has some valuable information about how us humans are ruining the Earth with our SUVs and abuse of fossil fuels. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Quite Comprehensive This text offers great details, but I did not rate it as 5 stars because (1) when searching for content, it is difficult to see the key words in the text and (2) the case studies are well selected, but since they are inserted throughout the chapter, it is challenging to determine where the case ends and the author's content begins. Overall, I would recommend the Jennings text and will keep a copy on my shelf. Summary: Good enough The book was damaged but it looks like its the post office job because the envelope used to cover the book was damaged as well. Besides that, the transaction was good Summary: 15 days to tell us they didn't have the book. I ordered the book from them on Nov1. On Nov 15 I called and they told me they didn't have it. The money was returned by Amazon. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Classic piece of work kept up to date! The book evolved from its first edition and its definitely a mammoth task trying to keep in this edition what is relevant and what isn't but i think the authors did it :) If you want to be a UNIX Guru, then this is definitely the book for you :) Summary: Very detailed, but well indexed reference Everything you wanted to know (and probably didn't care to know) about linux. The only drawback are some of the builtin functions that he uses. These are usually uppercase modifications of the lower case functions. It creates one more step for the reader, if they don't want to use his builtin functions. Summary: Outstanding second edition of a computing classic This badly needed update to the classic first edition preserves what is best about the old edition, which is the format and attention to detail, and adds the changes that have occurred to the UNIX operating system since the first edition was published back in 1992. Specifically, there are implementation samples for FreeBSD, Linus, and MAC OS X included. This edition is as the first one was, an excellent reference for anyone doing system level programming in C or C++ on the UNIX platform. It is was never intended to teach the reader the fundamentals of the UNIX environment nor to teach C/C++ programming. The author assumes a strong knowledge of both. The book begins much as the first edition did, by explaining the UNIX kernel in generic terms. It then goes on to explain the various implementations of UNIX and their specific differences. You will find chapters three through ten largely unchanged from the first edition, as the basic mechanisms of file I/O, directory structure, interprocess control, and signaling have not evolved since that time. Chapters eleven and twelve are two new added chapters on threads, as threading has become very important in UNIX system programming. Also, gone is the chapter on interfacing to a postscript printer. It is replaced by a more modern chapter on communicating with a network printer. The HTTP protocol is discussed in this context. The book contains a rich set of examples and downloadable code that is very useful. In addition, the book contains the implementations of two large-scale projects: a database library and communication with a network printer. Each project includes complete code with schematics. This book also contains numerous exercises, and the solutions to some of those exercises are included in the back of the book. Since Amazon, and some reviewers, show the table of contents for the first edition but not the second, I include that here for the purpose of completeness: 1. UNIX System Overview 2. UNIX Standardization and Implementations 3. File I/O 4. Files and Directories 5. Standard I/O Library 6. System Data Files and Information 7. Process Environment 8. Process Control 9. Process Relationships 10. Signals 11. Threads 12. Thread Control 13. Daemon Processes 14. Advanced I/O 15. Interprocess Communication 16. Network IPC: Sockets 17 Advanced IPC 18. Terminal I/O 19. Pseudo Terminals 20. A Database Library 21. Communicating with a Network Printer Appendix A. Function Prototypes Appendix B. Miscellaneous Source Code Appendix C. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: One of the best Window programming books This book is one of the best because it forms a foundation for everything that comes after. If you want to understand Windows, you have to have it. It doesn't cover advanced topics, but in order to understand advanced Windows programming, you need to understand everything in this book. Summary: Great foundation book This is a very good book to build your win32 foundation with. But it is rather outdate if you want to make use of the latest windows os and with vista coming out, a new edition needs to be published. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Hoot is a Hoot Hoot is a very exciting book. It starts with Roy being the new kid again, this time in Florida. If it weren't for Dana, the bully, Roy would never have seen the bare-footed running boy. If he never saw the running boy he would have never met Beatrice. These three friends go on many adventures to save little burrowing owls. Don't get confused when the story changes point of view, it will all make since at the end. I can't tell you anymore, you will have to read the book to find out!! Review by Andrew from St. Louis Summary: critical hoot review Hoot by Carl Hiaasen is a great book, but I believe it has gotten too much praise for its content. In the book, there are three points of view- Roy, the new kid, Delinko the police officer, and Curly, the construction foreman. Roy and his friends try to stop the construction of a pancake house through seemingly random acts of vandalism while Curly and Delinko try figuring out why they want the construction to stop. Mid chapter on multiple occasions there is a sudden change in point of view, which when it happens you either feel cheated or deceived, or happy that you finally got back to the interesting part. Even with my complaints, this is still a very good book. Hiaasen makes the whole book unravel like a mystery combined with multiple ways of seeing the same event. I would recommend this book, giving it a 4 out of 5 rating. Summary: Hoot Hoot is about three kids saving the enviroment. A boy from Texas or so, comes to a different state. Why? Because of his dad's job. They always moved around. So this guy meets Beatrice because he always had to see another guy run barefoot super fast. Beatrice told him to stay away but he couldn't. He was just so amazed by his speed, and he didn't even go to school. So this boy couldn't stay away, well he didn't until he met him. His "name" was Butterfingers because he caught these small fish with his bare hands. He was hiding from his parents because he was "bad," he was rebellious. Beatrice & Butterfingers were brother and sister, so she helped him hide. They were trying to avoid the construction of a new pancake house in the place where baby owls lived underground. The people from the pancake house (meaning the boss) knew about these owls, but he still wanted that place. Well, I've said enough. Find out how it ends by reading this book, because there is alot to learn from it. Well at least that's what I think, and I think that this book teaches people to stand up for the little guys. I recommend this book to people who care about the enviroment. Summary: |
