Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Marvelous Book Fish is an incredible story that first caught on film. It produced an amazing video on the world famous Pike Place Fish market in Seattle. In whatever media it appears, it's a fabulous love story. As the book suggests, "When we choose to love the work we do, we can catch our limit of happiness, meaning, and fulfillment every day."If you read Fish, share it with everyone with whom you work, and implement the four secrets and suggested strategies that Lundin, Paul, and Christensen has given to us.This book is not just about selling fish,it's a love story that can happen in your organization too. Summary: Concise, Informative and Fun! Provides a great overview of the desirable characteristics of any work enviornment, but presented in a very easy to read and understand way. Read it easily in a day but can put the principles to work immediately. Heard about Pike's Fish Market for a long time and am glad to hear the "real" story. Summary: Good, quick business read. I'm not usually a fan of books like this, but it was so quick and easy to read, and the concept was so well thought out and laid out... I didn't feel like the authors were "dumming it down" for me. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Cesar's Way is Nature's Way Aside from providing me with a better understanding of my dogs, this book also teaches some great lessons on leadership and how nature wires it into dogs and other animals. The book is actually an easy read and is written in a way that you can almost hear Cesar talking. I suppose that's because I bought it along with the DVD of the entire first season of Dog Whisperer, another great buy! Summary: Too much exercise Overall the book was helpful and interesting but there was too much about Cesar himself.A little background is nice but he became redundant and boring. I also feel I'm missing something. I understand calm assertive and dominence and the need for exercise but I'm not having dramatic results with it. My food reward method seems to be working better with fear aggression, but overall it is informative and has valid suggestions so I would recommend it. Summary: Worth Reading I liked this book. I have three dachshunds -- they're easily out-of-control when people come to our door! This book explains dogs' point of view; compares it to human thinking. It's also full of interesting stories from Cesar's varied experiences. I found it to be good training for my approach towards my dogs' behaviors, and gaining some control. And now I understand them more fully. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Good Idea to have It gives a good idea of the type sof question. The untimed diagnostic test had pretty good question must do them. The practice questions are easier that them. Summary: Understanding the GMAT English is not my native language, thus preparing for the GMAT has been a double effort for me. This book helps you clearly understand the different sections of the test, what is measured, what tips you should know, and how you should face each problem in order to maximize time constraint. It includes real questions, with explanations of correct answers and explanations of wrong answers; it helps you understand why you chose a wrong answer or why you took the "wrong-long" path to resolve it; i think this method is effective for you to avoid future mistakes. Sebastian Moraga Santiago - Chile Summary: Lots of practice, no explanations. This is supposed to be the response from ETS to the kaplan method. It is interesting because it brings a shaddy comparison of miths and facts about the GMAT but it does not tell you how your answers affect your score, it seems to keep things secret. But the real 800 questions are very helpful for the good amount of practice you're gonna get, just don't expect good explanations on the correct answers or how to solve the most difficult problems, and also use a dictionary to undestand their english, it is too academic for some. | The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Character Beats out All Averages, Hands Down His emphasis on character as the basis of effective living -- and a good basis for life -- is a unifying theme that will pull together all of the other points Sean Covey places in his book. This book is no copycat of his father's book; it is sharply readable and entertaining, as he promises at the outset. It's not hard to forget all the reasons not to be self-centered, materialistic, petty, and all the other bad things, when you keep in mind the idea of having good character as the basis for learning. In this way, too, the student can keep in mind possible explanations for parent behavior; they are reacting to stimuli that include but are not limited to things the reader may be up to. Not that parents are perfect -- not all of them, anyway. Some parents should be taken to the cleaners to dry in the sun, at least for a while. However, all other things being equal, the parent who does not aim at least part of his or her relationship with youth on the overall development and growth of his or her teen may be readily persuaded to see the light and accept the child for who he or she is by throwing this book at them. I have to give The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens about 4 stars, but it was a toss-up. It doesn't compare well with War and Peace, but as self-improvement reading it is hard to beat the seven habits book. The title probably required a release from the father-author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People -- or a great father-son relationship, anyway. On second thought, the publisher would have required the release, regardless. Almost nothing gets 5 stars. However, if you know somebody who is -- or if you are -- feeling messed up about which end is up and it seems that everything is racing through the mind too quickly, then slow down and look at the fundamentals, a little. Next, give this book to your parents, it should be mandatory reading as part of the parent licensing program I would propose that somebody or some group, church, religion or philosophy administer. Summary: I love this book Wow this is one of those books that when you first look at it it looks boring its not. I ran for the Miss pagent of my town. "In my case Miss Yucca Valley" I was told that I was going to read in this book. I love to read so I didnt think much of it. I began to read every day. I fell in love with the ideas that this book holds. I began to read every chance I got. My friends were laughing at me because all I talked about was this book. The lessons in this story really taught me something. Every teen should read it. Summary: Simply put, it works It's right, these are highly effective habits for not only teenagers, but anyone. I was disappointed with this miniature edition, not because there is anything wrong with it, but I did not expect it to be so small. I recommend the regular sized book. You will undoubtedly be an improved man if you read this book. Summary: |
| Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't
Publisher: Collins |
|
| ISBN: 0066620996 List Price: $27.50 Amazon Price: $16.50 Usually ships in 24 hours |
Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: AWSOME BOOK! This is an awsome book! I thought Patrick M. Lencioni was a good writer, but Jim Collins is a Great writer! The research and the detail in this book is unheard of. Mr. Collins and his team did a great job in explaining every part of this book in great detail. If you want to become a better leader, in any field, read this book. Summary: Fantastic This book delivers great insight into the inner workings of what makes a good company become great and the characteristics of the leaders of those comapnies and workers. Great book to get to understand and to apply to your own situation. Summary: Finish it or do not read it at all All too often a message has promise, but the messenger misinterprets it. That is often the case with this book, partly due to the author's thoroughness in introducing his first concept of `getting the right things/people in the right places'. This concept is so extensively covered in the first half of the book that, I believe, most people assume this continues into the second part of the book and quit reading. (Or, this is enough to make conversation around an executive lunch table and so they drop it for another hot conversation topic.) In fact, the second part is significantly different and discusses what happens once everything is in place... momentum. Since most read the first half of the book and quit, I will cover the second half first. Momentum and incremental improvements are the key to `radical breakthroughs', which, if done right, can not be recognized until well after they happen. This hurts the quick-fix consultants out there, but there is no effective way to have long lasting impact with a significant shift of direction. A quick shift requires readjustment by everybody and does not put an organization on stable ground to continue their momentum. Rather, small changes will amass into a significant step at some point but none of these alone will change the playing field or greatly move organizations position in it. Most important about this is FOCUS, each of these changes comes with understanding the world around you but focusing on how you can make a difference. The problem comes when the scope of vision becomes to wide and, marketing is concerned with the testing results the QA department got on beta build 3, support is talking about who in sales is making their quota and sales is talking about where the executive team held their last off-site. Keeping each team focused on contributing toward the goal and feeling the energy build as they make progress is the key. Now for the first part, get resources where they belong, even if this includes placing them in the trash. Collins describes an organization as a bus. First, get the right people you need for the journey on the bus, get the wrong people off. Yes, there are some people who are not right for the organization, it would be a disservice to the others on the team and hurt that person's future if you did not help them get off the bus. Second, put the right people in the right seats. Great! Now that everybody is where their skills are best applied look at the tools you have and do the same. If the ticket system is garbage, replace it with something that meets your needs, money spent now will save you operating costs in the future. Monitoring application working adequately, find somebody who can make it work right. If you are going to read this book, commit to reading the entire book, it can be worth it. The misinterpretation of G2G is partly the fault of the media, which enjoys sensationalizing that Jim Collins is advocating firing people that are not immediate contributors to the team and a fit for the culture. So learn about momentum and be comfortable with your organization not holding huge release parties for new products and be able to look back and say, `I was part of something great.' Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Everyone should own a copy of this book. This is a truely excellent book, full of essential information for ordinary people trying to live a healthy and active life. Do yourself a favour.. Summary: Interesting, broad spectrum and highly recommended! This is a unique way of presenting valuable anatomical information. It seems that this is a successful and accessible way in order the authors to reach and educate the masses. The book focuses on anatomy and how your major organs function. I think that you will learn at least a few curious tidbits of information even if you are quite familiar with how your body functions. I agree that this is a very big book but everything is down-to-earth and easy to understand and apply. The book is even appropriate to read with your children. The two medical doctors who are the authors of the book made the extra step to give several tools such as questionnaires to access the degree of healthiness of your lifestyle. Most people will find after that valuable advice, which may improve how you feel and look. In general this is an original, appropriate for an average reader and quite valuable book, which I feel confident to recommend. Another bestseller "Scientfically guaranteed male multi-orgasms and ultimate sex" also reveals numerous key factors and processes that have a dramatic impact on your body, health and pleasure. That's why I highly recommend both books. Summary: Quality Book This book reads just as it was advertised. It is full of quality life information, lightly lined with humor to make it more reader friendly. A suggested read for anyone wanting to make themselves a priority. Summary: |
| Life of Pi

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: In awe I reluctantly came across "Life of Pi," while convalescing on Polo beach in Maui from two broken ribs. So, a sorry surfing accident landed me in the pages of one of the most beautiful stories I've ever read and I devoured it in a day and a half. This book is amazing! And is so infused with life. The greatest literature is always that which you can draw a common thread to yourself throughout and "Life of Pi" does not disapoint. No spoilers here, just a hearty recomendation; you simply must read this book. Summary: Brilliant! Yann Martel dazzles with his description, and leaves you tormented with questions! This is one of the best books I have read in quite some time! For me, it is up there with Gabriel Garcia Marquez's 'Love in the Time of Cholera' and Daphne du Maurier's 'Rebecca'. It is story-telling that is reminiscent of bedtime tales - so wonderfully descriptive, yet grounded in a reality that demands hope, faith and will. I liken it to Gabriel Garcia Marquez, because although it is not technically magical realism, it requires you to have faith in more than scientific reason to believe that a young 16-year old would survive on a boat with a tiger! The book is split into three parts, and I found that my interest in the book picked up after the first part. Truly a page-turner! The ending is poignant, and is a true character test. How pragmatic are you? How strong is your faith? Yann Martel leaves you longing for more pages and wishing you knew the real answer to the ambiguous finale. Summary: Questionable beginning, Superb Ending As a college student, I really dont have any time to read pleasure books unless its the summer, so I have to really pick out good books or else I feel that I have wasted my time... and this book was NO waste of time. As some may agree, the little was a bit slow, but the part about Pi's religious adventures stirs it up a bit. The book doesnt really get going though until the 2nd phase. Here is where the action picks up, and the reader's interest does as well. The last 20 pages of the book are the bread and butter of this book though. I dont want to spoil it to anyone, but its the type of book that you will want to discuss with your peers, no matter how old you are. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great summer read. Summary: |
| Examkrackers 101 Passages in MCAT Verbal Reasoning (Examkrackers)

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Verbal Reasoning is not easy, GET THIS!! As hard as you'll work on preparation for this exam- your preparation for the Verbal Reasoning section will be the most important. Most people complain about this section. I was included, until I took studying for it head on. I needed all the practice I could get and this book gave me 2 passages a day for 50 days. I timed myself (18 min total, 9 minutes a passage for the two) and corrected it that day. It increased my speed and ability. The guys that write these Exam Krackers books only want you to do well. I can tell after working on this stuff for five months straight that is the case. -Matthew Wolak Summary: Not the real thing, but about as best as anyone could make it Having taken the real MCAT in 2003, and also AAMC practice tests 3-6, I would say that Examkrackers 101 passages doesn't quite hit the center of the target in terms of actual emulation of the real MCAT. However, it may just be a psychological bias of mine, knowing that it isn't written by AAMC. The passages seem to be just about as difficult, and the questions are written well. The aspect that seems to be just a tad off is the passage topics (I felt the AAMC passages were of a higher quality writing). I give it 4 stars because it is in my opinion 100% beneficial to use this book if you want to practice verbal. I'm definitely able to approach the real MCAT more confidently knowing that I've practiced Examkrackers passages. Summary: Do not agree with the answers There are answers in the book that does not make any sense at all, especially towards the end of the book. Some of the wrong answers are obviously right, and I asked two of my friends who are also studying for the tests, and they both agree with me that the answers are a little "fishy". Furthermore, the author does not explain why the answer is the way it is. It just says "WRONG, this is clearly not implied in the passage" without any further explanation. Instead, it should tells us how to answer the question, strategies, what to look for, if we get it wrong / right, rather than merely explain with "CORRECT, this is implied in the passage." But then this is the only book that has enough practice tests, and I have seen even worse verbal practice exam book out there. I however like the examcraker books for the science section. Summary: |
