Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Not the Usual from This Author This book was readable but just barely. I suppose I'm comparing it to every other book I've ever read by this author. I've never read a book by Debbie Macomber that I didn't fall in love with. This one was predictable and boring, or maybe I'm just tired of the books where the man and woman hate each other's guts and then manage to fall madly in love at the end. Summary: Heart Warming Story This is not going to be the book that changes anyone's life and it's not deep. However, it is written very well and it could easily be finished in an afternoon. It sustained my attention from beginning to end, which is a difficult task. It's a nice, light hearted summer read. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: A sweet love story 'Simply Scandalous' by Carly Phillips is a nice afternoon read. This novel tells the story of Catherine Luck who runs a catering business and wealthy Logan Montgomery. The story is charming with believable characters. Summary: Just simply have to read it!!! This book is just simply one of those books you just have to pick up. Especially is you are into romance novels. You can't get enough of girl meets boy, girl falls in love with boy! I sure know that I love reading about women getting swept off their feet. If that is your case, then this is the book for you. This book is about the ever so desirable man named Logan, who is a respectable lawyer. And the girl next door, Catherine. Who was brought up in not such an upperclass living style. She is a caterer for one of Logan's dad's parties, which is where Logan first lays eyes on her. He and she get to talking and he won't take no for an answer. Eventually they make it back to his house, and I don't think I need to say much more ( If you know what I mean). They go through a roller coaster of obstacles, in which Cat can't make up her mind if this is the guy for her (because they come from two different backgrounds). But Logan steps up and becomes a man and tells his dad whos who. Does Cat see it Logans way and think they are destined to be together or does she go with her gut feeling that this is just wrong? To find out you just have to pick up this book, I loved it and I know you will to!!! Summary: Something Missing I bought the three books of this trilogy all at one time. I'm sorry, but I wish that I had read at least one before I bought all of them. I could hardly read through parts of these books because they were so trite. There were passages where Carly Phillips really grabbed my attention with her style. But the plots were just so boring. Also there were more sexual passages than I felt it needed. I felt it almost concentrated more on the sexual passages(for frustrated housewives?) rather than using the sex scenes to enhance the romance. I don't know. Maybe it is just me. This was the kind of book I probably could have enjoyed in maybe my very early 20's. If you are a mature woman (over 35) who has any semblance of depth - pass on this trio. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Simply Crappy. A very poorly written book. I am an avid reader of all genre's including romance. This is by far the worst book I've read in a long time. The author tells, not shows, what is going on and has long bouts of meaningless and endlessly repeating thoughts between the dialog. A few times I had to go back a couple pages to remember what the previous character had said. The plot might be okay if it were executed well. It wasn't. There are a lot of fun easy reads out there. Books like this is what gets the Romance genre laughed at. Summary: Fun and Entertaining Every since I first read "The Playboy" I have been an avid Carly Phillips fan. So I had to read the Simply Series. Simply Sinful, although definitely not her best work, is a fun and entertaining read. The relationship between Kane and Kayla is sexy and kind of taboo, which just makes it even more fun. Although, the tortured hero was a little over the top for me, especially how he would be so convinced things wouldn't work out one minute and then be madly in love the next. For some reason I also was not a big fan of Captain Reid, even though he was supposed to be a likable character. I just found him to be kind of annoying, luckily he is mentioned by other characters more than he actually appears in the book. I loved Kayla's sister Catherine, every scene between Kane and Cat made me smile. She acts just how a good sister should. I'm halfway through Catherine's book "Simply Scandalous" and am loving it even more than this one. If you are a romance book fan, especially if you are a Carly Phillips fan, then "Simply Sinful" is definitely for you. Summary: "Are you going to Lucky Detective?" Simply Sinful by Carly Phillips is clever quick read. Detective Kane McDermott is assigned to find out if Kayla Luck is running an escort service. Kayla Luck is a sweet trusting woman who decides to make Kane her first one nightstand. Everything goes wrong and Kane ends up moving in with Kayla to `protect her' from the bad guys. The next story of the series is 'Simply Scandalous' tells the story of Kayla's little sister Catherine. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Wonderful conclusion to the Trilogy! I really enjoyed Monroe's finale. It was touching, and as usual both parties were clueless as to how one felt about the other. I liked the intimacy (besides the sexual) between the couples especially after the medical situation which Therese believed would make her lose her caro, Claudio, is revealed. However, I would have liked to have seen more of a backstory for Therese and Claudio, such as a scene on how they met, or a moment before their marriage. Flashbacks were given on how the other Scorsolini brothers, Marcello and Tomasso, met their wives, so I was a little disappointed when I didn't see one for Therese and Claudio considering how the couple were mentioned in the first two books.. This by no means detracted from the story however, b/c their history is revealed piecemeal as the story progresses. As hoped Therese learns she is loved and Claudio learns he has nothing to fear from acknowledging his love for his beloved, Therese. The story ended beautifully; love was practically bursting off the page. Wonderful conclusion to an incredible trilogy. Summary: (:D) This has to be one of the best ending to a trilogy that i have read, and the fact that the author was dealing with a issue that women faces made it more special... DO NOT let this discourage you from reading this book because you would have to read the ending to know how it ends won't spoil it for you.... Reading alittle about both heroe and herione in the pervious brothers books were so hyped up that it was worth the wait I think Lucy Monroe did an excellent job on all 3 books and hope she contiunes to do so in the future with harlequin presents.. Summary: Will tug at your heart The Scorsolini Marriage Bargain concludes Lucy Monroe's breathtaking Royal Brides Trilogy. Prince Claudio and Princess Therese appear from the outside to lead a fairy tale life. Their marriage of convenience seems to be everything on can ask for but Princess Therese is hiding a terrible secret that she is convinced will turn Claudio away from her. Claudio is taken aback that Therese asks for a divorce. Before he can get to the truth his father the King has a heart attack. They both decide to table the divorce for now. When Claudio realizes his wife has a serious illness that affects her ability to conceive he is determined not to let her go. His tender loving care gives Therese hope that all might not be lost in their marriage. Watching two characters that have married for duty fall in love is a pleasure for every romance reader to cherish. Claudio and Therese have their courtship in reverse. You cannot help to care about each joy and sorrow. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: Sexy and Hot -But Weak Plot (31/2 stars) Ben Callahan P.I. is hired to keep tabs on hieress Grace Montgomery. Ben goes to NY and moves into the apartment next door. Grace notices the hunk next door and sparks fly. The problem is that Ben can't seem to keep his hands off Grace and not mix business with pleasure. Little does Grace know that her grandmother's meddling might just might lead her to the man of her dreams. But what happens when Grace finds out that Ben's been keeping her company for the money, and not her, the whole time? I liked this book -sort of. Its written well, but the plot is non-existent. Phillips is clearly talented in the love scene department and there's alot of it here if your interested. This unfortunately doesn't make up for the lack of angst. The big to-do in the book is whether Grace will forgive Ben when she finds out that he's been hired to watch her. That's just weak, not enough to keep the reader interested for 260 pages. I wished that Phillips would have expanded on the drug theme, maybe some slight voilence would have added the needed jolt here. Summary: Great book! This was a great end to the simply series. I loved all three books. Summary: Hot, hot, hot Phillips does her best to pull the reader in right from the beginning. Her steamy scenes keep you longing for more, and the plot thickens as threatening notes are thrown into the mix. A great read; you'll never want to put it down! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Taking Care of Business Is An Eye Opener I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As a social worker, I can empathize with Renee's situation. Love sees no color and definitely should have no bounds. However, let's face it, in the world today, it does. Even though we try to say race is not an issue or it does not matter, it is still there. Renee and Tag came together after a chance meeting due to Tag's mother, Karen, and Karen's illness. Both, Renee and Tag were concerned for Karen. Renee, on the business end and Tag on a more personal issue, because Karen is his mother, a beautiful woman who Tag dearly loved. After Tag started spending time with Renee, he saw Renee for what she was also -- a beautiful, caring and loving woman. By Renee being Black, African American or a Woman of Color, this did not matter to Tag. However, let us readers not forget, that Tag came from an influential, wealthy family. Others had long forgotten that Tag's grandparents, Patrick and Maeuve Elliott were originally poor Irish immigrants and that Maeuve once worked as a seamstress in Ireland before Patrick brought her to America. Some of us also tend to forget that money changes things for some, especially when it is not only money, but lots and lots of money. Tag's family were billionaires and Renee was just a "hired helper" in this case. So Renee and Tag were faced with issues created by others. Renee, being a woman and vulnerable because of the way others have been treated, did not want to place this burden on Tag, the man she loved even though she did not want to love him. Some viewers may not have enjoyed or even liked this storyline, but this is another fact that we must fact in today's life, that the storyline indeed happens, and if we are honest with ourselves, it has happened in some of our own families. Are we looking constructively at the story and the plot or are we just seeing what others (those who are biased) see? Thanks Ms. Jackson for another story -- maybe this will indeed be an eye opener for those who may have their eyes partially closed. Thanks again, I certainly enjoyed it as well as your other books. Summary: Definitely Took Care of Business I don't know why others did not enjoy this book. I reread this book twice already and it is simply enjoyable. Renee and Tag are both proper, maybe because they are upstanding citizens and college graduates at that. Secondly, the love scenes were very passionate indeed, and described realisticaly. Of course the book wasn't too raunchy, but that isn't the point of the novel. Thirdly, yes, Tag and Renee could have gone on more dates, but one of the rules for writing a Desire romance novel is to keep it at 187 or so pages, and Brenda Jackson did it expertly. This book had traces of elements of interracial dating problems in it, and it was also mainly about finding true love in a man. Not a white man, black man, whatever, but simply a good man. I give this book two thumbs way up. Summary: Love Abounds A love-at-first-sight interracial romance began between a wealthy magazine publisher, Tag Elliot, and an average-income social worker, Renee Williams. Their relationship seemed to have its trials and tribulations--like most couples. And when Tag had made up his mind about Renee, there was no turning back for him. However, Renee seemed to have an abundance of doubts about acceptance--perhaps too many. Some of the Elliots and their friends are snobbish and snide remarks of racism surfaced. But despite all of the problems from others, the couple was finally ready to face the world--together and enjoy each other and life. Brenda Jackson focused her novel more on the happiness of two people in love, rather than on the aspects of wealth and racism. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: A book to read and re'read Two stories in this book are reissues and the third is new. And I couldn't be happier about having them all under one cover. It was such fun to go back and read Dane and Alec's stories and I was thrilled to meet Harris in "Uncovered". He's a firefighter and every bit as HOT as you might imagine! You really are missing out if you haven't purchased this steamy collection. Summary: Enjoyable Threesome! Three for the great price of one book! Now that's a novel idea!!! Three hot romance stories and all three are HOT...Now if you ask me...That's what all romantics dream of!!! Summary: Fantastic book & series. Never laughed so much. I started this book a couple months ago only reading the 1st. 2, Beguiled (Dane & Angel) bk. 1 & Wanton (Alex & Celia) bk. 2 They being part of the PI series which was fantastic. Mick (Caught in the act) bk. 3 links these 2 & the next 2 in the series (Treat her right & Mr. November) bks. 4 & 5. Men of courage (Ethan & Rosie) is next, although I didn't know was linked to those above at the time of reading it. Then we have "Riley". Finally I get to the last book in this anthology "Uncovered" (Harris & Claire). This one had me in stitches laughing. Harris is called to a fire. His friend Ethan firnds a box of photo's of a naked lady presumed to be posing. Because Ethan is married Harris takes them of him. Claire, Harris's neighbour sees them & is mortified. The next day when Claire gets to work for Dane & Alex she finds Harris there with the pictures. There are also some handwritten notes about Harris. Harris is desperate to find out who the mystery woman is. None of the men can understand Claire's reaction to seeing them spread out over the office. Dane & Alex even have them blown up to see if they can find some distinguishing marks. It is only when Angel & Celia go into the office & see the pictures all over the wall that they recognise who it is. Men are sometimes so thick, they can't see what's under there noses. As this is happening Harris is about to go into the back office to stop them searching for her & Claire is about to walk into the shop. When she does the look they give her is pricless. They just don't know where to look. Harris is mortified as well as angry. 3 other men have seen those pictures of Claire & he is going to marry her. 2 of the men are her bosses. How will he live this down. They are by this time shouting all the personal details of what has gone on the night before & everyone can hear. Alex buts in a couple of times while they are still shouting. After getting his presumptions wrong Harris finds out its an ex of Clair's who took the photos without her knowledge & that he has been doing it to others as well. Lori says in the front of this book that "Uncovered" is the funniest book she has wrote & she is right. In future whenever I think about it it will have me cracking up. The next in the series is Buck's story in "The truth about cats & dogs". My copy shoud be here next week. I can't wait. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: You'll love it! Eight years ago, when Rivermist, Georgia teenager Neal Cain began serving his sentence for the manslaughter death of his best friend, Bobby Compton, he left behind a bewildered girlfriend and two devastated parents. Now, Atlanta's most successful advocate for those too poor for legal representation, Neal has a new life, away from Rivermist and the ghosts of his past. But the news of his estranged father's mysterious illness forces Neal to return to his hometown and to the people he left behind. Jennifer Gardner's perfect teenage life ended the night that Bobby Compton died. Cut out of Neal's life and left to the derision of a disapproving community, Jennifer's out of control escapades eight years ago left her with a bad reputation and a baby on the way. Now, eight years later, the former teenaged runaway is back, and through hard work and discipline she's made a life for herself and daughter Mandy. Working hard to repair a strained relationship with her ailing father, she's even taken a hand in running the youth group in her father's church. When a chance encounter leads to an emotional meeting between these two returned prodigals, they find themselves just as drawn to one another as they were all those years ago. And as they work together to help Neal's dying father, Jenn must make the hard choice between giving in to her heart's desire and protecting herself from further heartbreak. With this spotlight on life in a small southern town, Anna DeStefano manages the difficult task of juggling angst, humor and everything in between with graceful aplomb. A romance through and through, this is as much a book about parent/child relationships as it is about Jenn and Neal. There are a few places where politics get in the way of plot, but these are fleeting and do serve to reinforce the complexity of the issues DeStefano wrestles with. Add memorable secondary characters and an interesting sub-plot, and The Prodigal's Return becomes, at its core, a heartening story of the love that binds sweethearts, families and small towns together. Armchair Interviews says: A sweet story placed in small Southern town. Summary: The Prodigal's Return THE PRODIGAL'S RETURN by Anna DeStefano July 15, 2006 Rating **** (4 stars) The various relationships in THE PRODIGAL'S RETURN kept this story moving fast and will keep the reader interested until the very end. The story revolves around the death of teenager Bobby Compton, who was killed by fellow classmate Neal Cain, both of whom were in love with the same girl. Neal pled guilty against his father's wishes, and was sent to prison to serve a jail sentence of eight years. Neal refused all contact from the girl he loved, Jennifer (Jenn) Gardner, and his father Nathan turned his back on Neal. Subsequently, Jennifer's life turned into a nightmare, running with the wrong crowd and over-indulging in sex and booze. The result was her precious daughter Mandy. It is eight years later. It is a coincidence that both Neal and Jennifer return home after only bad memories remain for either of them, including their estranged fathers. Upon her return, Jennifer learns that Nathan Cain, who was once a very wealthy and successful lawyer, is now a drunken old man who looks as if he's living on the streets. His home is falling apart and it is obvious Nathan has given up. When Jennifer finds out that Neal has returned, her main concern is Nathan, and she does her best to convince Neal to connect again with his father, who is now alone and is shunned by the town. Ever since the birth of her daughter Mandy, Jennifer had turned her own life around to become the type of person that would help anyone who needed it. But what she doesn't realize is that she's been pretending that her own problems don't exist by dealing with everyone else's problems first. Neal has also taken the same route, becoming a social advocate for the poor and needy, neglecting his own issues. A subplot involving a young pregnant teenager reminds Jennifer of her struggles when she too had been a pregnant teen, with no love or support from her family. Jennifer tries to ensure that history does not repeat itself, and does her best, with the help of Nathan, to guide Traci to do the right thing. The reader will feel very connected to the characters in THE PRODIGAL'S RETURN. There are several very intense relationships intermingling in this story, with people who have a lot of issues that need to be dealt with because of one single action that took place eight years ago. One of the most central characters is not part of a love interest, but that of the elderly Nathan Cain. The reader will enjoy getting to know him, a man who was once the most successful and wealthiest person in the small town of Rivermist, but is now the town outcast. His best friend is the town's pastor, Jennifer's father, and the two men had parted ways because of the murder committed by Nathan's son. Jennifer makes her way into Nathan's heart, as does her daughter Mandy, who looks up to Nathan as another grandfather whom she could love and cherish. Watching Nathan's character transform was a highlight of this book, and helped bring all the characters together, as well as tie up the story lines. The relationship between Neal and his father Nathan is also a pivotal one that keeps the story moving. Nathan acts as if he never wants to see his prodigal son again, but what Neal doesn't understand is that Nathan only wants what is best for his son, and chasing him out of town is what Nathan thinks is the best thing to do. Jennifer is the person that tries to fix everyone's problems, and this includes the relationship between father and son. A minor character, Jeremy Compton, the brother of the teen that was murdered, is a constant reminder of what had happened in the past, but it's not just a reminder of the murder. Jeremy behaves as if he almost owns Jennifer, acting too familiar with her while Jennifer is uncomfortable with the signals she's getting from him. His past and connection with Jennifer is not obvious, until it finally is spelled out at the very end, with an almost devastating conclusion. As always, a good romance has realistically drawn characters with a story line that will keep the reader intrigued, and THE PRODIGAL'S RETURN has all that. The reader will not be disappointed with this Harlequin Superromance, and this reviewer recommends THE PRODIGAL'S RETURN. - Courtesy of Love Romances Summary: |
