Summary: Marketing Management, 12th Edition Much to my chagrin, I have discovered that the book cover does not match the one that Amazon advertised, but two things bother me immensely: 1) I noticed that the book came from India and that the ISBN # for this book does not match the ISBN # I had ordered. 2.) It is a first Indian reprint, 2006 and states: "This edition is manufactured in India and is authorized for sale only in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. This has left me to wonder if the content in this book even matches the content of the book that I need for my course which starts in three weeks. Where is the quality control? Summary: delivery time great buy from the private used books from your amazon website. Excellent delivery time. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Marvelous Book Fish is an incredible story that first caught on film. It produced an amazing video on the world famous Pike Place Fish market in Seattle. In whatever media it appears, it's a fabulous love story. As the book suggests, "When we choose to love the work we do, we can catch our limit of happiness, meaning, and fulfillment every day."If you read Fish, share it with everyone with whom you work, and implement the four secrets and suggested strategies that Lundin, Paul, and Christensen has given to us.This book is not just about selling fish,it's a love story that can happen in your organization too. Summary: Concise, Informative and Fun! Provides a great overview of the desirable characteristics of any work enviornment, but presented in a very easy to read and understand way. Read it easily in a day but can put the principles to work immediately. Heard about Pike's Fish Market for a long time and am glad to hear the "real" story. Summary: Good, quick business read. I'm not usually a fan of books like this, but it was so quick and easy to read, and the concept was so well thought out and laid out... I didn't feel like the authors were "dumming it down" for me. | Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A Monograph to Accompany Good to Great
Publisher: Collins |

| ISBN: 0977326403 List Price: $11.95 Amazon Price: $9.20 Usually ships in 24 hours |
Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Provides the Missing Link for Nonprofits to Grow from Good to Great "Good To Great" remains my favorite leadership book, for a variety of reasons. The only shortfall has been in applying some of its tenets to our nonprofit organization. This monograph is very useful in making the book work for an organization that is driven by a different kind of results. The monograph also allows you to get this info without having to buy another copy of Good to Great,so it is well worth the cost for its small size. Summary: A Great Strategic PlanningTuitorial This is an excellent, fast primer to give board members and leaders of non-profits before (or after) startegic planning sessions. Many leaders and board volunteers of social sector organizations have not read nor heard Collins' other references. So, this is an inexpensive and fast tuitorial that can bring them up to speed prior to a strategic planning program that is based on Collins' "Good to Great" principles. Several people I've given this monograph to have been so impressed with his approach that they've gone back and read "Built to Last" and "Good to Great". s/Lawrence Connor, Leadership Consultant, St. Louis, MO Summary: Very Disappointing! The material quickly goes astray claiming that "the primary path to greatness in the social sectors is not to be become more like a business." Collins manages that conclusion through a non-sequitor - stating that basics such as personnel selection, demanding results, etc. don't count "because poor companies don't do those either." Regardless, while Collins does identify the NYPD as an example of a well-run social-sector organization, his coverage is less than superficial. Similarly, while Collins admits that social sectors often have a problem getting rid of unsatisfactory performers, he doesn't seem to appreciate how important that is. American public education and healthcare are the two biggest social sectors, and both perform poorly while costing more/client than that of any other nation. Public education costs have escalated far faster than the CPI in general (while pupil achievement and dropout rates have stagnated), and healthcare costs rise faster than most anything else - despite repeated evidence that basic treatment steps are frequently omitted or performed poorly, millions lack healthcare access, and Americans' outcomes lag those of a number of nations. Part of the problem is that both sectors are heavily funded by third-parties (thus appearing "free" to users); another is the lack of good outcome measures; a third is that neither sector strongly links provider success with pupil/patient outcomes - in fact, both sectors generally achieve more income the worse their clients' outcomes. My "Bottom-Line:" The two largest American social sector components need enormous improvement; this is best accomplished through providing incentives for them to act more like businesses - Collins' point of view notwithstanding. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: The man is a great teacher. I liked this book for several reasons: 1) I appreciated how he presented the material in as 'plain English' as possible. 2) The Cyclical Investing and Trading Chart was a prize. 3) I enjoyed how he included situations and stories from his personal life in the book serving to break up the drier material (rather than the book being solely a "Text-Book" of sorts). 4) I liked the last chapter the most, probably because he transformed complex subjects and market tools into easily understandable subjects and market tools. I hope, Cramer, that you have started your next book. I can't wait to read it. (Also, I would love to read about some of the more complex and technical methods you used while utilizing options). Thanks for the enlightenment Summary: The cyclical nature of stocks, explained The most important take-away from this book is how Jim breaks down the Business Cycle into the various phases. It culminates in one simple yet masterful stroke of genius: an entire sector-by-sector cyclical wave is graphed for the readers across 2 full pages. This is known as 'the gameplan' and on a very basic level, lets you know what forces will be acting against your stocks at any given time. Invaluable. Summary: Great book - funny and insightful Jim Cramer's new book was a pleasure to read and I would recommend it anyone. Many of the reviewers on this board have stated the book is for beginners or it contains no unique or complex trading strategies. I disagree. Jim shows that there is no excuse for not doing homework on a stock and you HAVE to understand the basic financials of a company and understand some of the basic sectors and how they move with seasonal economic cycles. This sounds so basic in the eyes of many people but few follow his sound rules. The bottom line here is that you must do research on companies you want to invest in and you need to stick to some simple, commen sense trading strategies. One of the hardest things to do with individual stock investments is knowing when to sell, and Cramer drills this into your head and makes you aware that there are circumstances when you must take your profits or cut your losses and move on. His explanations and real-world examples are hilarious and informative, just like his TV show. Don't be afraid to buy this book, its great and you just might rediscover some of the most important and basic fundamentals that you have forgotten over the years. Summary: |
| Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done
Publisher: Crown Business |
|
| ISBN: 0609610570 List Price: $27.50 Amazon Price: $17.33 Usually ships in 24 hours |
Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Great Information on getting things done The only caution I give the reader is that this book is geared toward the upper management (CEO) level. Pieces of this can be used an any and every level but the majority of this book is not applicable to all levels of management. This book opened my eyes to things from the perspective of the highest offices of an organization. It also let me know that most of my bosses have not been very good leaders. I already knew this but this book pointed out their faults in great detail. Summary: Good content, but nothing shocking or not covered better elsewhere Don't get me wrong - the authors cover execution, the gaps between intent and results, and inability to create effective teams in great detail. If you've never read anything on it, this book is a decent book on the subject. However, as other reviewers have pointed out, this is a subject well covered within other books directly (Welch's Winning, etc.) or as part of a larger framework of how to run your life (7 Habits + Getting Things Done) or your business (Built to Last). It's an essential topic, but not treated in as engaging or wholistic manner as several other books in this genre. Summary: Important book on getting the right things done Without execution, companies are doomed to failure. Execution bridges the gap between thinking and action in the corporate arena. This book is great for all levels of management. With it, I recommend Optimal Thinking by Rosalene Glickman to maximize thinking in the workplace. And I recommend Winning by Jack Welch, the best corporate leader during the past decades. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Concise and Easy to Understand This book is required for MBA Managerial Accounting, and is also used in undergraduate classes. The topic chapters are well organized and use good examples to explain. This is one of the predominate and most popular books to teach this subject. It does go into detail about T accounts more than is required for my class, although the depth is not too esoteric. With that, I close in stating that the international edition is the same and is much cheaper. Even though stores won't by back Intl Editions, you can save more (and on the front end) than will be refunded at buyback at the end of semester. Summary: Great text book Overall, this is actually a very well organized and highlighted textbook, the pages are easy to read and the charts and examples are very straightforward. Emphasis is placed in the right places. The bad thing is that the textbook does not supply answers to any of the exercises or problems which really doesn't help, but hopefully your teacher will compensate for that. I still think it's a little verbose and repetitive in the text at times, but otherwise, the chapters deliver good understanding and are very clear. I highly recommend this edition. Summary: ..... bought this book for my managerial accounting class. the book is pretty boring at first, especially the ethic part but it gets more interesting at the later chapter. it's also really heavy, yeah, imagine carrying it to class everyday. and it's really overpriced. i paid 140 bucks for the book at my school bookstore, but it came with homework manager so i guess it's still cheaper than the one sold by amazon. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Impressive customer service Great job!! I got the book quicker than I thought I would considering the delivery to Europe, and at a much better price. And the delivery fee is totally acceptable and fair. Thanks!! Summary: Not entirely new! For those of you interested I strongly recommend the article by the authors (Value Innovation: The Strategic Logic of High Growth, W. Chan Kim, Renee Mauborgne, HBR July 2004) which presented the same concept with fewer examples- it will save you time and money. I do like the Value Innovation concept. But as the authors highlight you cannot create sustainable competitive advantage this way; the new "value-curve" can be copied easily by the competitors. Also, the concept and framework are not entirely new; all of the examples presented in the book can be explained via the old and true concept of knowing your market/consumers' needs/wishes, and the trend of changes in your market/consumers' needs/wishes. If a firm is truly in-touch with their market/consumers, it can constantly create new sources of value, and change its value proposition as market changes. The real problem is that firm do not stay in-touch, and that they often fall in love with their original value proposition. No new framework can change this problem. The only cure is financial troubles. Then, the firm keeps a new look at its market and consumers' needs/wishes, and when you reach this point you really don't need a new frawework. Although, the new framework might make the task of presenting your finding to management easier. Summary: Simplistic and Vastly Over-rated I find this strategy model to be a far too simplistic of the real business world and, thus, vastly over-rated in terms of its value. It deals with the "old" analog business world and pays little regard to the major changes sweeping corporations with the digital revolution. . In my opinion, of far greater value is a book called "BIZNETS: The Webopoly Future of Business" by Frank Feather, and I suggest you check that out and compare before buying this one. It covers 6 case studies to find the common threads of successful strategy in the "new" and future digital business world. . By contrast, Blue Ocean is somewhat tired. Sure, I highly regard the successes of some of the chosen companies. But the way they are presented is so 1980s. I rate it 2 stars. . Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Good Idea to have It gives a good idea of the type sof question. The untimed diagnostic test had pretty good question must do them. The practice questions are easier that them. Summary: Understanding the GMAT English is not my native language, thus preparing for the GMAT has been a double effort for me. This book helps you clearly understand the different sections of the test, what is measured, what tips you should know, and how you should face each problem in order to maximize time constraint. It includes real questions, with explanations of correct answers and explanations of wrong answers; it helps you understand why you chose a wrong answer or why you took the "wrong-long" path to resolve it; i think this method is effective for you to avoid future mistakes. Sebastian Moraga Santiago - Chile Summary: Lots of practice, no explanations. This is supposed to be the response from ETS to the kaplan method. It is interesting because it brings a shaddy comparison of miths and facts about the GMAT but it does not tell you how your answers affect your score, it seems to keep things secret. But the real 800 questions are very helpful for the good amount of practice you're gonna get, just don't expect good explanations on the correct answers or how to solve the most difficult problems, and also use a dictionary to undestand their english, it is too academic for some.
