Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Hate Math you'll love this book! I am in my first semester of nursing and this is our "required" math book. I have to be 100% honest and tell you that this book is the greatest thing since apple pie. If I can understand this book, and I'm no math wiz, you'll be pleased and surprised with your new math abilities. I certainly am! Summary: Math for Meds Book arrived quickly and immaculate condition. I am more than happy with this purchase. Summary: A great text Dose response curves are driven by simple ordinary differential equations (ODEs). It helps a lot to know the mathematical foundations, but the solutions to the ODEs are intuitive: dose a patient of a given weight, watch the blood level rise, peak, and then begin to decline until the next does is given. Change key parameters, and you don't change the nature of these curves, only the particulars change--peak dose time depends heavily on patient weight for example. This book is should give confidence to those professionals that prescribe medicines to the public at large. Alex Alaniz Ph.D. 1. Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Very Low level book I bought this with hope to get my brain used to solving complicated problems quickly. However, the quality of excercises in this book is very very low. I could have made up any of the excercises in the book. Unsatisfied, I returned it in 2 days. Do not buy it if you are very good or even avarage at math. This will not help you. Summary: Excelent Math Refreser Very good book...if you want to refresh the basic math, algebra and Geometry...before you start with the real problems...this is your book... Summary: More than doubled my score This is the best book to start with. It gives you the foundation to work the GRE books with ease. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Good book I used this book in my home school this year and all three of my kids tested many grade levels above average. Great book. Summary: A Very Enthusiastic Review Over the years, I have purchased countless "learning guides" for my two daughters. We always started with the best intentions but quickly became bored and found an excuse to try something else. Mastering Essential Math skills (6-8) is different! We are trying to figure out what to do when we complete this book. (Only about 20 more pages). I wish there was a sequel! I am not aware of any other books that do a quick review of basic skills, a good review of newly learned materials, followed by a new lesson on almost every page. There is an overall review for the section as well as the book. It's fast paced learning with review, review, review. I have recommended this book to my friends and would recommend it to you as well. Summary: Worth Every Penny! Highly recommended. This is by far the best math workbook we've ever used. It comes with Teachers Handbook and Answers. It has review skills before each lesson and a quick lesson on how to do the problems on each page. I wish I had found this one long ago, before I wasted my money on the others. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Pretty good i took the sat ii math level 2. i really didnt study too hard until like 2 weeks before the test. i only used this book and i still managed to crack 700. this book covers more info than that is actually on the test. the strategies that it gives are very helpful and if you just read through and do the examples, i am pretty sure that you could crack 700. i was only a sophomore when i took the test and i didnt even take calculus yet, so i must say, this book was sooo helpful! Summary: A good review book. Well, I just got back my Math 1 score from the June administration of the SAT Subject tests. I got a 730, which I think is a result of using this great book. It is a little unorganized, but everything you need is there if you'll read the entire book. Unlike other Princeton review books that cover two levels of tests (like the AP Calc AB & BC book), this one actually divides well between Level 1 and Level 2 materials. Overall, it had a great review of the material, with explanations of how to do the practice problems and not just the answers. The practice tests were more difficult than the actual exam. I got a 650 on one and a 660 on the second one, despite the fact I got a 730 on the real SAT test. It's much better than the Sparknotes Math 1 book, which I also used to review. I basically got 800s on their tests because you could recognize how to do all the problems from practice problems in the book. One test didn't vary much from the next. But that's not the case with the Princeton Review book, because you cannot really recognize the problems as familiar. It's overall a great book. Summary: Very good The book is pretty good, the test are harder than the actual. That is actually good for practice. Using this book will increase your scores. Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: good condition/ no picture The product was in good condition, but there was not a picture of the book. Owner says there was a review on the book, but I did not see it, and the ad was misleading. The ISBN number is what I searched under and it ended up being the wrong edition. It was my understanding this was the book on the internet which showed thrid edition. Summary: Math 65 An Incremental Development My 12 year old daughter is just completing Math 65. WOW! Although not produced with Special Learning students in mind, the incremental learning is ideal for slower learning or learning disabled students. My daughter has always struggled mightily with Math concepts. She has made tremendous strides using this program. New concepts are introduced slowly and previously learned concepts are reinforced at each lesson. Each lesson includes a practice, some mental math and problems. At the start it took an hour at school and up to an hour at home to complete the lesson. She now gets each lesson done in under an hour! (It is set up for one lesson a day). I highly recommend this book, and I'm looking forward to using the next books in the series. Summary: A perfect way to teach students from start to finish. The Saxon math series kicked off with two wonderful books: 54 and 65. I was able to obtain 65 from one of my classmates because I needed some extra review in math. I LOVE IT! I used the book in 5th grade and had minimal struggle. The book starts with the simple concepts like addition and subtraction and slowly moves into fractions and missing number problems. Unlike the flop 76, rather than having surprise questions with no teaching, this book only throws surprise questions in after the concept was taught. The lessons are short making them relaxed rather than tense and the practices are short and to the point as well. Also, the mental math section at the beginning of each lesson helps students warm up on their addition, subtraction and whatever else skills they need to succeed. The appendix has a well written glossary and supplimental practice set for selected lessons to help endorse concepts. The books 150 lessons always have something new that'll help you; never an old concept. I highly reccomend this book whether you're just looking for some review or help or teach a class. Reccomended grade 4/5 for teachers. (Note: If you have to to get past the awful 76 for 6/7, use 65 and spare your students. You can always teach new concepts to keep them ahead.) Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: This workbook rocks! With no review and almost 20 years since I last looked at algebra and geometry I got 360 on the GRE math section. With 4 weeks of review using this book I got 570! Imagine what you could do with longer! I highly recommend this workbook. Its easy to follow, the methods are very clear and detailed. It teaches you a few tricks of the trade that are simple and effective. Well worth the money. Summary: Provides all the information required for an 800 score This book provides a solid preparation for all the concepts tested on the GRE quantitative section either if you don't know them or just want to recall them. I used the book for 3 weeks and my score improved from a 710 (on my previous GRE official test) to a 790 (in the latest test). The only thing that will need worknig out is timing. The book can't actually help you in that part, and that is your ultimate enemy once the concepts are mastered. The book lacks a cd with some CAT timed test in order to give the full preparation for the real GRE test. Summary: Good book if you put in the time I took the GRE and got a 710 on the math section (70th percentile). I did about 5 practice problems from each section of the book over a 3 day period, taking notes on the shortcuts provided by the book. The book has good tips that you need on the exam to complete it in time. I took the GMAT today and scored a 58th(39 scaled) percentile on the math, which would be a 41 had I answered all the questions. I reviewed what I studied for the GRE for 3 hours. I really only attempted 30 of 37, so I suppose this score is okay. Honestly, had I studied for 3 days as I did for the GRE, this score would probably be 80th percentile. My verbal was 93rd percentile and it was way easier than the GRE (56 percentile), unless you are a dictionary whiz. This tests your ability to pick the least incorrect sentence from a selection of poor sentences, and skim passages for information. So much for these tests predicting ability! Anyhow, buy the book, study the tips, and practice before taking. And remember that you don't need stellar scores to get into a good program, but it helps. And if you don't apply, you'll never know if you could have gotten in.... Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: A survey on how to improve the functionality of your mind... This book is for everyone; whether you want to improve memory, learn some math tricks, enhance your creativity, etc... The beauty of the book is that it covers a wide array of topics, and it does a good job. I say it is a survey because while some tips are evaluated others cannot be put in a few pages. Each hack, however, gives you the topic in a nutshell, describing the theory behind it, and how it could be applied it in the real world. Furthermore, each hack is augmented with some excellent bibliography that you a person could look into if he enjoyed the hack. The final point to be made about this book, and all O'rielly Hacks books, is that you could read the hacks in any order you want. Summary: MIND PERFORMANC HACKS I HAVEN'T HAD THE BOOK THAT LONG BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN IT SHOULD BE VERY INTERESTING. THE PARTS THAT I HAVE HAD TIME TO READ GIVE YOU SOME VALUABLE AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND INFO. THNX, BILL CUNNINGHAM Summary: Brain Hacks!!! Have you ever forgotten something? Do you want (or need) to improve your memory? Then this book is for you. Mind Performance Hacks is written by Ron Hale-Evans, who is an expert on memory. He has created the Mentat Wiki (which was the inspiration for this book). But memory tricks aren't all that the book has to offer - in fact, the many other tricks and "hacks" were more appealing to me than the memory tips. Hale-Evans gives a great overview of the prevailing memory tricks, including the Dominic System. These tricks to improve memory have helped thousands of people, but they've always seemed to be more work than they're worth to me. My memory isn't the greatest, but most of the time it's easier for me to just write things down to remember them. The thing that first attracted me to this book was the mental math. Who wouldn't want to be able to count to a million on their hands (Hack #40)? Estimating sqare roots and testing for divisibility are both tricks that I've seen taught in the classroom, and are worth knowing and remembering. But there's a lot more to this book even than that. There are valuable tips on enhancing your own creativity (I especially liked the 'mental random number generator' in Hack 19). Hale-Evans encourages the reader to develop their inductive reasoning skills (especially in Hack 48), which is something we could all use. He also includes tips on "mental fitness" - how to get your brain warmed up and ready to process information. I got the book for the "brain math," but I'll keep referring back to it for the brainstorming. You can learn a lot about how people think, and maybe even pick up some techniques that will improve your own memory and help spark your creativity. If nothing else, that counting to a million trick could win you a few bar bets - even if you only get to a thousand! Summary: |
