Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: CD ROM THE BOOK IS GOOD BUT THE CD ROM IN NOT IN DEPTH ENOUGH. I WISH THAT IT HAD MORE INTERACTIVE MATERIAL. Summary: Almost Perfect Leaving asside it's exhorbitant price, this is an excellent text book. The subject is covered clearly and consisely and the charts, photos, and illustrations are clear and bright. The only area that needs improvement in my opinion is the vocabulary, which would be much more usefull if it was presented in the side-bars like it is in many texts. Summary: Essential for A&P Students. I own the International Edition of this book, ISBN 0-321-20413-1. Very good use of English, clear and easy to understand - even complex areas are explained fully and legibly. Excellent use of rich graphics and photographs where appropriate, and a very useful set of appendices at the back with everything from normal values for most blood tests to a Periodic Table. Accompanying CD and website both very helpful for the A&P student. Highly recommended. Why 4 stars? Since I am not in the USA, I have to use a scaled down version of the MyA&P website and find it just a little confusing to find my way in (once I'm there it's OK though). Also a tad heavy to be lugging around campus all day! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: medical physiology without the medical part Boron's Medical Physiology represents an attempt to present the subject with a strong emphasis on molecular biology. While the concept is reasonable and the book partly succeeds, the execution has very substantial failings which far outweigh the merits. The writing is generally clear and the illustrations, while not the best I have seen in a medical text, are adequate. In summary, the text certainly is different from and has advantages over Guyton and the others. However, as a textbook of medical physiology it is unsuitable and largely unsatisfactory. The easiest remedy might be to simply change the title. As a general textbook of human physiology it has considerable virtue and would be worth a solid three stars at least. But medical students and others in the allied health professions should look elsewhere. Summary: great medical physiology text! great text! this is a fabulous book and i highly recommend it. my only gripe is that the website is not what is promised. as of this writing, it only contains an outline of each chapter and DOES NOT include the promised extra material. after contacting the publisher, i was told this would hopefully be fixed by march or april of 2004. Summary: Too confusing for begginers, excellent if you know the basics I have bought 4 physiology books during my medical studies and i am only a second year student! And i must say, that this book is definetely the best one, if you have the basic knowledge. If you are a new begginer though, it is very very difficult to start with this book, since the explanations are very detailed and require a certain level of 'scientific way of thinking'. There are many research examples and historical links, something that a student prepearing for an exam doesn't want to waste time on. Some of the explanations are too long and complicated, that one looses the initial idea of what the explanation was about. On the other hand, if you are quite skilfull in physiology, this is a great book. The pictures are extraordinary and very scematic and understandable!!! You definetely get a lot for your money! So, in conclusion, if you buy yourself a simpler physiology book and get the basics from there, Medical Physiology is the perfect choise to go on expanding your knowledge with. But don't buy it as your very very first physiology book. It will just confuse and frustrate you. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Excellent textbook I purchased this book for my own use and found it to be rather invaluable. This is very direct-to-the-point and concise. The only problem I noticed was as others have mentioned, the pictures are not very clear, sometimes difficult to make out what you are looking at, but the value of this book overall makes that easy to overlook. This is an easy book to get into, very informative, I guess some might consider it bland because it is indeed in textbook form, it still remains a valuable learning and resource tool. I'd recommend this to anyone! Summary: excellent review It was excellent throughout but it needs to have arrows on many of the pictures to help you figure out what you are looking at and some of the diagrams are so simplified that its hard to figure out what is a happening. Summary: Very thorough book, must buy This book covers every medical microbiology topic that is needed for class exams or the USLME. The book is intensely filled with very elaborated information that any medical student needs to pass his or her exams. My study group and I also used the following for class exams and the USLME and found it extremely helpful. I also purchased this book on amazon which is the following: Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi (ISBN: 0971999635) The questions in this study guide were on target with my class exams and was an excellent reference for the USLME. Buy both books. Most definitely!! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Best Practice for Internal Med Shelf This book is basically MKSAP 2 except with different questions. That's good since MKSAP 2 was well made. There were several things I liked about MKSAP. It covered a variety of illnesses and grouped them by symptom (so if you felt weak in pulmonary you could easily find sections applicable to that field). The American College of Physicians wrote it, which is quite comforting. It references appropriate research articles for every Q&A. Finally, like a shelf, it forced you to make tough decisions. In reality, you order just above every lab and whatever imaging you need to cover yourself. Board questions, though, make you choose the best test from what you would always order. I preferred using the CD-ROM with the book (well made) as I could do questions much faster rather than flipping through a book. MKSAP 3 is slightly better than 2 in that it does reference more recent materials and protocols, and it seems to repeat certain concepts less. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: More than a textbook It's amazing when a person understands their material with such a firm grasp and can then further back it with the organizational skills and creativity necessary to produce a book. This literally borders on art. It is smooth, has a natural progression and the writing is perfectly concise and illuminating. Wow. Summary: Review of Textbook of Medical Physiology I agree with the reviewer from Israel, this book is exceptional at explaining physiology. During my first year in medical school I used Berne and Levy as the text for medical physiology and I found it to be a very good text. But reviewing physiology during my second year I used the text by Guyton and I couldn't believe how well written and clear it was. Both texts are excellent and I give both 5 stars, but I would definately recommend Guyton for a first read, and then Berne and Levy. However, not all sections in this book, like not all sections in Berne and Levy are excellent. I recommend supplementing reading in Respiratory physiology by West or weinburg, Renal Physiology by rose or vander, and GI with Johnson. Cardio use B/L-it's the best. Endocrine, Guyton is good. Nerve and Muscle physiology use Berne and Levy; and Neurophysiology I highly recommend reading Neuroscience by Purves and Essentials of Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology by Gilman. Summary: Outstanding ! For the medical student this one is the best explained and most detailed book there is! The main quality of this title is in the fact that C.Guyton is a great teacher. The clear figures and the down to earth language makes this book the best for the student. It slowly shifts from the simple to the hard stuff and does it withough any unnecessary complexity. Everything you will ever need to know about physiology is here. While reading this I couldn't believe how such a tough subject can be made so easy. It is really a masterpiece. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Best Practice for Internal Med Shelf Please note that MKSAP 3 it out. That said, I didn't feel the info in MKSAP 2 was outdated, and moreover the questions are different from MKSAP 3. Also, like a shelf, it forced you to make tough decisions. I preferred using the CD-ROM with the book (well made) as I could do questions much faster rather than flipping through a book. One slight criticism was the seeming repetition of certain concepts (asthma treatment protocols). Summary: not a good book for it's price. if this book was marked at $7 retail then I could say that one can buy and not lose money on this book, but for the price and the hype about this book, I only have one word...."Garbbage."Very ill defined passive toned childhish kind of book. not worth the money... Summary: Best for IM shelf (NBME) Studied only with MKSAP week before IM shelf didn't get all the way through but received a very good shelf score, not excellent, but knew well what I did go over in the text. (Used up-to-date for clinical management when cases came up on ward) otherwise only did q's in MKSAP & didn't read much. Although, I did use Kaplan Step 2 IM videos for entertainment, Dr. Conrad Fisher is a riot & Dr. Kornbluth rock! Summary: |

Many other books are dull to read comparatively, even though these other books may have more material to sell. This book by Dr Gordis stands out to be a great starter book for all. Summary: Easy Read This book was an easy read. I recommend it to anyone who has to take Epidemiology. Summary: Great Book Easy to read for the beginning epidemiology student...Author provides insightful examples and gives good explanations. Summary: |
