Avg Cusomer Rating: 3 Reviews: Summary: Too much hype I was ready for a wonderful, absorbing summer read. This wasn't it. ALthough the topic is interesting, and based on actual events, the story was too contrived, too forced. THe events did not match the responses and the author tried to put it together in a cause/effect puzzle. It didn't work. At the end, characters didn't relate to each other, but instead of depth, we got superficial explanations not worthy of a sophisticated author. It was disappointed and not memorable. Summary: Beautiful Novel of Family and Forgiveness I met Kim Edwards at a signing at my store and could not stop talking about my experience reading this novel. The language made a heartbreaking subject a beautiful story. This is one of the best written books I've read and I look forward to the next novel by Mrs. Edwards! Summary: what's all the hype about? As soon as I read this book, I knew it would be a best-seller. The controversial subject matter, and the quote from Sue Monk Kidd(Secret Life of Bees), is just what sells these days. To be fair, the writing is pretty good, but the plot line is very contrived and corny, to say the least. Without giving anything away, happy endings are not always the best choice. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Straight and to the point This is one of the first books I read and I found it quite informative. I find myself reaching for this one over and over again. Summary: This Book is Right on Target For anyone that is a part or full time caregiver for an elderly person with some form of dementia or alzheimers this book is a must read. I was a caregiver for my mother and another elderly relative with dementia. This book made all the difference in the world to me. Summary: The 36-Hour Day This is THE VERY BEST BOOK for a caregiver who has a person in their life with Alzheimer, or related dementing illnesses. I have referred the book to many caregivers. Just the first few pages of the book educated me on what is going on with my Mother and how to handle and cope with her disease. It is a MUST READ!!! Too many books just give individual's stories. This book helps you understand their behavior, how to deal with it and how to... I can't say enough good things about this book. Thank you, Thank you, Nancy Mace, you did us a great favor in writing this book. P.S. Don't skip any chapters. I skipped the one "What Happens When Something Happens To The Caregiver" --needless to say, I fell and fractured my knee and was out of commission for awhile...had to go back and read that chapter. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Must read for neuroscience students and afficianados Eric Kandel's marvelous book was simply exhilirating! He has artfully woven his life work of cutting-edge memory research together with his memories of key events in his own life (e.g. Nazi-dominated Vienna in the 1930's. This is compelling reading and makes doing science exciting! Summary: A tough read but worth it! This is a brilliant review of the experimental work that went into Dr. Kandel's receving of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Not only is the information fascinating, the descriptions of the various researchers brings a human aspect to those otherwise considered "lab rats". So not only are these doctors geniuses, they play tennis, are oenophiles, etc. Dr. Kandel's humanity constantly shines through whether complimenting other's work, showing his gratitude for his hard-working post-docs, or his "issues" with Vienna. His issues are what drives him in part as well as his fertile and curious mind. For the non-science oriented, the information might be difficult to slog through. However, the diagrams are clear, the writing crisp, and the picture of the sea slug with the Nobel medal around his neck is worth the price of the book!!! Summary: A decent one, would be better without personal life details Its a nice book for those interested in neurobiology. Its well written and no background knowledge is required. The best work of the author is on the memory, how short term and long term memory works, and how short term memory is converted to longterm one. The experiments give convincing evidence for the hypotheses. The explanations of various dis-orders/feelings from neuro-transmitter point of view is simply amazing. I wanted to give 4.5. The author delves too much into his personal life, which can be cut short to make the book into 300 pages. The personal part is irrelevant to the "search of memory". My advice is: skip chapters 2,3, if u r only interested in the science part. A more optimistic picture of future research on consciousness would have been better. This is because, "Up from Dragons" by Dorion Sagan gives a hint at what consciousness might be. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Tools for excellence This book is set up for anyone to have many tools for them to use at anytime. It has flowcharting, public speaking, many diagrams, and several team based exercises to help become better. In the front of the book it has a tool selector, and it takes some of the guess work out of tool selection. This is just one of many great books this company offers. Our copmany uses several of these in our professional training with our clients. This is a really good book for those looking for continuous improvement. The Memory Jogger Plus is an excellent book also and has many great tools and other goodies. Summary: The guide for all I first used this as a high school student then later at university doing engineering. It's so worn it's due for replacement. Handy size, useful tools, practical. Worth every cent. Summary: The guide for all I first used this as a high school student then later at univerity doing engineering. Now I use it as an engineer. It's so worn it's due for replacement. Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Handy and Useful, but pricey This book is a concise reference for use by practitioners and those on the shop floor. I use it daily in our one square mile manufacturing complex. Our people understand the tools with help of the illustrations. The how to use the tools is clear. Sure some may be overwhelmed by the statistical detail; however, the graphs are useful in showing folks what we as a team are working towards. At only 265 pages, this spiral book is pricey, but that's expected from the millionaires of the Six Sigma Academy. ASQ's entries into this segment pale in comparison. Overall, I use it in any public course offering I teach. Keep it simple! Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Great keepsake My husband and I got this as a gift and love it. It has a place for a picture each year and room to write important events throughout the year. We love looking back. I can't wait to look back in 30 years. Sometimes we forget all that goes on. This is a great way to keep the stories going. Summary: First Wedding Anniversary Memory Book I used this book as a gift for my grandaughter & her husband's first anniversary gift. They loved it. She is into scrapbooking & will certainly embellish it a little more throughout the years with more pictures. Being the first anniversary is paper, I thought this was very appropriate. Summary: Beautiful Book for Memories The Wedding Anniversary Book is a wonderful keepsake for colorful memories. I was given this gift at my bridal shower by my sister, and just gave it as a wedding gift to a good friend who loves simple yet elegant ways to remember our walks through life. It's not bulky and is efficient, with areas to note where you lived each of the first five years plus an area to attach a picture. It then moves to every five years, then every ten... I look forward to looking back at each marked year to remember the various stages of life and marriage. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Best training log ever! This training log is the absolute best I have ever purchased. In the past I have used Weider's Log, M&F Hers Log, and The Ultimate Workout Log. The Ultimate Workout Log was poorly bound with comb-binding and didn't hold up well. That is what led me to try Bodyminder's. It is bound well with nylon spiral binding. Nice thick faux-leather cover, a transparent pocket inside the back to store misc. papers (I tuck my pencil in there). Each day is a two-page spread with a myriad of choices. There is a great deal of room for recording each weight training exercise -14 rows and columns to record 4 sets, as well as columns to mark which muscle group and difficulty. There are a couple of spots for notes, reminders, supplements. All in all, it is the most thorough log I have ever owned. I love it! Summary: 2006 revised edition improvements When looking on Amazon, the search inside feature shows an older edition. After purchasing, I found there have been some improvements. Notably, the dietary section now includes boxes for breakfast-snack-lunch-snack-dinner-snack. This fits nicely for people who are following a diet that requires them to eat 5-6 small meals per day instead of the old standard of 3 meals. To make room for this, the "Other Exercise" section has been shrunk a bit. Instead of having big check boxes for various activities such as gardening and yoga (which was a waste of space to people who didn't use them), there are now 5 blank lines where you can write in your own activities, whatever they may be. The cardio workout section has also been reformatted. The cross-country skier and jump rope have been removed, but there are three blank lines where people could add those back if they want. Anyway, I would say that this was already an excellent product, and it is nice to know that it improves with time. Here are some things I like as compared to other workout journals I looked at. - I like that it is both a workout and food diary AND gives plenty of space for both. It is important to pay attention to both in order to get and stay fit. - I like that it has a lot of lines for weight training exercises. Some others did not have near enough for my needs. - Some other journals I've looked at had much smaller spaces for writing in. - Some journals had pictures on the cover of fitness models. I don't want to carry something into the gym that looks like the cover of a lady's fitness magazine or a men's muscle magazine either. I prefer the conservative fake leather look of this journal. - The spiral binding allows it to lay flat for easy use. - I found the brief section of common food counts handy. Best of all, they left space where I could add my own foods. - The introductory material is helpful but brief. It tells you how to use the log. It doesn't tell you how to work out. - It has a good weekly planning section at the beginning and goals/progress section at the end. - The calendar in the back was handy for reference. I will definitely buy this one again when I have filled in all the days. Summary: Too small Actually ended up throwing this journal away. They have the right idea about daily accountability and thought the charts were well thought out. But found myself fighting the small format though and ended up throwing it out after a couple weeks of use. Summary: |
