Summary: Great project for cub scouts and brownies
Fun to read, fun to do! We first saw it done on a cruise. (Never realized that this art had ever been lost.)
This is an activity that will engage youngsters without making a terrific mess. No paint or glue to smear on freshly painted or wallpapered walls. No sharp scissors to jab into the upholstery or hack at the curtains. If the technique is properly modeled for the children, every child will be able to be successful. And everybody has some sort of towel already, so there is no expense for this pleasure.

Summary: Not an origami recipe book
Dr. Lang delves into the hows and whys of origami design exploring origami the way Alton Brown explores food and cooking.

The instructions for creating beautifully made koi decorating the cover are not included in their entirety, notably excluding the sequence for creating the scales. Instead, Lang describes the principles and techniques for creating textures on paper, leaving the creation of the fish as an exercise for the reader.

If you're looking for a recipe book for cool origami designs, then this is not the book for you. Rather, this book is for anyone curious about just how the heck someone makes a cuckoo clock out of one uncut sheet of paper.

Summary: A truly incredible book!
By far and away the most comprehensive book on origami design and theory that I have every seen. There are thousands of books containing origami models, but few, if any, actually take the time to explain how the models were created in the first place. If Robert Lang didn't already hold a Ph.D., this book could serve as a dissertation. In addition to the theory and concepts of origami model design, this book also contains excellent models that demonstrate the principles covered in each chapter. I have always enjoyed folding Robert Lang's models in the past. They are challenging and extremely rewarding. I am a very good techincal folder but I could never really create my own models. This book has started me on my own path towards creating my own origami models to fold. While this book certainly could be useful to beginning origami folders, it best serves intermediate to advanced enthusiasts.

Summary: A great origami book
This is one of the best origami books ever written. Robert Lang is known for producing complex origami models and here he teaches the mathematical thought process behind the creation of these pieces. The book contains a number of chapters covering different methods of producing particular types of origami works and then each chapter ends with a series of advanced origami models for you to make with complete diagrammatical instructions.

The book is a wonderful instruction manual on how to create original origami designs but it also includes many sets of instructions for origami models which have never before been published. The exquisite Koi carp on the front cover (which I have seen in real life) is included as is the frog, and the infamous Black Forest Cuckoo Clock instructions are included at the end of the book. Don't try to make these pieces with ordinary paper - you will want to use very fine bank weight paper, tissue foil or wet folding with Canson or Elephant Hide paper to get good results.

This volume is an essential addition to any paperfolder's bookshelf and will provide many hours of interesting reading and wonderful models to fold.

Great Designs! Very thorough I love this book! I've bought several money origami books and this hands down is the most comprehensive book I've seen. Here are some major pros in this book: 1. The designs are all accurate - which has not been the case for all the books I've purchased. 2. She gives detailed folding instructions. I know some have complained about this, but really if you've never read an orgiami design before it will take a little for you to understand how to follow them. This is true for ANY book. Origami instructions have a standard notation which she explains quite well in the introduction of the book - don't skip this if you've never folded before. Other books don't have as detailed instructions. 3. The designs are color coded which makes them very easy to follow. 4. the spiral binding makes it easy to lay the book down while following the design (more important feature than you may think). 5. She shows accurate, clear, large pictures of the completed design. She provides a little history of origami and a very nice introduction for beginners. She even provides folds for envelopes for the design. I have never seen this done before and was very pleased and impressed. If you are a beginner folder it is a little struggle to learn how to fold. There are many resources on the web if you are having trouble. In truth, despite some of the other reviews here, I often recommend this book for the novice folder. It takes you through some easier designs and some more complicated designs. It gives you a chance to work your way up. I started with "The Buck Book" and moved to this one. Although the buck book has some nice designs (and I'd recommend it), this book has some very unique designs that make great gifts. I wonder if any of the reviewers, that had a negative impression of this book, have seen any of the other origami books out there. By comparison this is a great book that I recommend to anyone interested in money folding. Summary: The Guide to Hawaiian-Style Money Folds I love this book, it's easy to understand if you already know a bit about origami other wise I would not suggest using this as a first time book. I use these folding for tips at resturants and the waitresses LOVE them. Summary: Live A Little Hawaiian Style The color-coded instructions and the lay flat spiral binding are perfect for this instruction book. The designs are delightful and most are unique to Island life. Whip up some on the plane ride home for souvenirs. Pay the dog sitter with a Hawaiian pineapple--but make him/her an extra one out of a one dollar bill as a keepsake in case he/she needs to spend the payment (one of the good tips I learned from this delightful book). I would classify this book as intermediate. Rank beginners need to learn the basics of folding terminology and diagrams from beginner books before they move on to intermediate books which assume this knowledge. However--this book does, as do most intermediate books, present a refresher of what the terminology and diagrams mean (on pages 12-15). After reading the instructions and the fundamentals my 10 year old nephew, who is new to origami, was able to make his chosen 3 projects from this book perfectly. Living "Island Style" means to relax, no worry. And that is what you need to do to follow the directions in this gem of a book. I lived in Hawaii for 3 years with my USMC husband; these designs bring back fond memories of that lovely place. Summary:

Great for beginners. My 7 and 10 year old grandchildren had no trouble with the shapes on the first several pages. Designs get a little more complicated farther into the book. My grandchildren drew eyes and mouths on some of them and the animals looked even cuter.

This book is very kool! If you want to do something to pass the time, buy this book. It is reasonably priced and after you do a few foldings, you can really use anything to fold with, not just the origami paper. It is fun and relaxing. I like the ease of the book. Because it is so simplified, you are able to remember the folds, and, there with you for a lifetime.

Summary: Lots of animals - Intermediate to Advanced
There is a great selection of animals to make in this book. Some are very advanced and complicated. Others are easier and more familiar. If you are a beginner, but are familiar with folds and instructions, it is worth giving it a try for a challenge.

Summary: Absolute excellence... Don't Miss!
Even though the final models are *extremely* complex, the book begins with very interesting texts about origami origins, evolution and approaches to creation; and the models go in progression from the very simplest ones. So actually this is an excellent "transition" book - if you have some experience with origami and have the ambition to try more complex stuff, there cannot be a better book than this one to guide you. The diagrams are crystal clear, and so are the indications. I got this book when I was 11 (I�m 24 now), and it is still every bit as amazing an enjoyable as back then!!

Summary: ABSOLUTELY Awesome...but CHALLENGING!!!!
Origami Zoo is yet another book my boys and I got from our local library. This book is by two of the BEST Origamists around, in our humble opinion.
We will be watching for it on ebay. While we are all beginner/intermediate folders, we are AMAZED by this book. There is nothing in it we don't like, but only a couple so far we've been able to figure out. It is WELL written. All the basic folds one needs, are clearly shown and explained at the front. While it has black and white illustrations, they are fairly easy to follow, and the written instructions are very good, IF you already know something about Origami. There are very nice & clear pictures at the beginning of each model, to show you how it looks, finished. I like that.
If you are intermediate to advanced, I would say this book will keep you busy for MONTHS, maybe years.
FUN, EXCITING, "CHALLENGING" ! I can't wait to get past the cool Dolphin, which I got pretty quick. If you are just starting out, don't be like us, find an easier book to begin with. Highly recommended!!
