Summary: Just as wonderful as the Toddler Busy book
I ordered the two books together and they are highly recommended. Ms. Kuffner doesn't repeat (much) in the books so it's worth it to have both. My 3 year old and his 11 year old sister love the activities in this book as well as many adults who have played with us.

I have been using both books to put together a homeschool preschool program for my 2 sons, and they're great for that.
Summary: A great resource idea book!
I get a TON of ideas from Preschooler's Busy Book by Trish Kuffner. I'm a home daycare provider and I'm always looking for ideas to do with my daycare kids. I don't know what I would do with out this book. It'a MUST have for home daycare providers and parents of small kids
Summary: Best Kids Book for Moms!
This is the best book for moms. It's packed with creative ideas that are easy and inexpensive. You can get your kids busy with something new everyday of the year!

Summary: Love the help for my toddler
She really breaks it down and helps me understand my son's sleep patterns, what he needs me to do and what I may want to consider changing in our routine. I've made a few changes as she suggested and so far so good!
Summary: It worked for us!
I highly recommend this book for anyone! It was our saving grace!

This book really, really helped us. Our daughter suddenly started to fuss during the night when she was 6 months old. She was not sleeping through the night which was a concern since sleep is so important for children. We all went sleep deprived for over a year and thought we tried everything.

We read this book and incorporated several ideas. Within one week our daughter was sleeping through the night, and so were we!

Our greatest thanks to Elizabeth Pantley!
Summary: This is a must for any parents with toddlers
I read countless books on sleeping out of desperation. I've met a few parents who think they have all the answers to the sleep problem and they have only one child who happened to be 'not normal' and sleep well. I wish I had read this book much earlier. I tried cry-out methods (and there're many variations) and they only work temporarily. Everytime we sleep over at our in-laws, one of them get sick, or something changed, we had to go through the horrible cry-out methods over and over again. I've been thinking I am not persistent and can't control my own kids (I have two boys 4 & 2 1/2). While reading this book, I assessed my kids' sleep habits and was relieved they're normal and getting enough sleep. I just needed to adjust a few little things and even before I finished the book, everyone (including myself!) started sleeping better at night. Night routines are much more pleasant. Of course, there are nights they wake up and come to get me, but armed with helpful information, I can deal with it much more effectively and everyone quickly goes back to sleep. I feel much happier since I am getting better sleep at nights. We're expecting our third and I am going to read her book on babies.

Summary: That's why they say Common Sense...
A very helpful book and well written. Alot of the points in topics are common sense and when you read them your like well "duh" but you'd be surprised how refreshing it is to have these points acknowledged. I like how the book starts with a little background in child development and offers a better understanding of a child as over the years it is easily forgotten what it is like to be a child and their mind set. I do love the book and like how it is set up where you do have to read through the book to get the whole concept. The only reason I did not give it five stars even though I loved it, the book although says toddlers (which to me is 18mnths-2yrs) it seems like it was more geared to an older child possible 4 yrs and older. I could be wrong but alot of the technique and such have not worked on my almost two year old and neither did the approach. But over all it was an excellent book and would reccommend it.
Summary: absolutely excellent
i just had to take the time to write this review to let people know how wonderful this book is. If you don't believe in yelling at or hitting your children, but you can't figure out what else to do, this is the book for you. I have a 4 year old and have been following this book's advice for about 6 months and it works every time. it worked right from the beginning. It made sense to me and fit my style of wanting to "teach" my daughter rather than scold and threaten. It gives you examples and step by step instructiions. It is not a book that you can just "flip through" to get answers to your questions. You have to "read" it all the way through because one section links to the other. But it reads easily and quickly like you are talking to someone who understands. You can read it in a day or two. My copy is highlighted and dog-eared all the way through. I can't say enough about this book. My daughter and I are BOTH happier and better "behaved". I hope the authors have written other books on the next age group and adolescents.
Summary: An expertly written "how to" manual
Collaboratively written by parenting experts Bridget A. Barnes and Steven M. York, Common Sense Parenting Of Toddlers And Preschoolers is a very practical and "parent friendly" guide to the raising young children. From setting reasonable expectations for young children; to teaching social skills and self-control; to turning daily and weekly routines into family traditions, to handling very practical issues such as toilet training, bedtime, and meals, Common Sense Parenting Of Toddlers And Preschoolers is an expertly written "how to" manual which is very highly recommended for parents and caretakers of children ages 2 through 5.

Summary: Perfect helper when you need it most!
Our daughter has just turned three and wow, what happened? We feel like we have tried everything for discipline from time out to consequences and even the "S" word. Nothing really works. My friend recommended this book and it really does help. It's not the end all and be all of all books but it reminds you to think on their level and gives you good ideas for when you are faced with those very tough moments. I must say they suggest a positive time out, which I thought was CRAZY but figured I have tried everything else so why not? It really does work and continues to work. The best part is that I make it her choice and most times don't even have to get mad. I simply say, if you are going to behave that way (explaining the bad behavor, i.e. not playing nicely) please go to your time out corner until you are ready to come back and play nicely and sometimes she goes running in there crying (and then will return letting me know she is done and ready to play nicely) and sometimes she'll stop and think a moment and say, I don't need time out I can play nicely now. It's amazing.
Summary: Great advice, but have support
Dealing with preschoolers, as any parent will tell you, is a challenge. How do you deal with this little being, that is both independent and dependent, at the same time? Nelsen, et al, have provided a common sense approach to raising preschoolers.

The ideas that are presented in this book, when used properly, are incredibly powerful. An example of this is recognizing the message being sent by the misbehavior of a preschooler. If you can identify what the message being sent is, then you have a greater chance of being able to redirect the behavior. Of course, you have to be willing to take the time to analyze the behavior and define what you are willing to do in response to the behavior. While the tools provided in this book are very powerful when used properly, they can also be very damaging when used improperly. If you have someone that can read the book with you and provide support, you will be much more effective at implementing the strategies successfully.

This book provides an idea for raising children without using humiliation or punitive measures to get short term changes in behavior. If you are looking for support for the, "My parents raised me this way and I turned out just fine." mentality, then find another book. If on the other hand, you are looking for a book that provides a basis for what I would consider to be an improved method of dealing with preschoolers, then this is your book.

The one thing that kept me from giving this book five stars is that it fails to address immediate safety issues. In many cases the book suggests plans that are implemented after you have had a moment to consider your response. It would be helpful if the authors provided some ideas as to how to respond to potentially dangerous situations without losing your cool and still treating your child as a human being who has control over their own actions.
Summary: Best guidance for a lost parent
WOW!! My 4 year old has been pushing me to the limits and all I kept thinking was that I was failing. This book has put so much into perspective for me and has given suggestions on how to handle situations. I don't yell as much and I don't get angry either. I have a better understanding of my daughter's mindset and it has helped with my 17 month old too!!

Summary: another winner from katzen
I love all of Mollie Katzen's books so I was not suprised that Salad People was wonderful as well.

The format is excellent for young children. First, the recipes are explained in text for the adult and then in easy to follow numbered steps with pictures and few words for the children. The dishes are appealing to kids while using healthy and nutritious ingredients. This book is great for parents, preschool teachers, etc.

I recently taught a cooking class for young children and used several recipes from this book. The kids had so much fun making egg salad - Katzen's method of using an egg slicer to chop the eggs is such a fun and safe idea for preschoolers. We also made the Cream of Tomato Soup and they Tiny Tacos. All were hits.

I also highly recommend Honest Pretzels which I have used for teaching cooking to school-age children.
Summary: Great healthy food cookbook for young sprouts!
This cookbook is a real gem in the world of children's cookbooks. All of the kids' cookbooks I have seen in the past are heavily laden with sugar, chocolate, and more sugar. This one focuses on simple, healthy recipes such as "Cool Cucumber Soup" with cucumber, mint, honey, and yogurt; or "Foccacia" made with storebought pizza crust, olive oil, and rosemary.

The format is wonderful, with 2 pages for the adult to preread, followed by 2 pages of picture directions, simple enough for a 3 yr. old to "read."

I feel good about sharing these recipes with my kids (ages 5 and 3) and I don't have to worry about inducing a euphoric sugar high! My only complaint is that the kids aren't thrilled with most of the recipes... they took one sip of the cucumber soup and said, "Yuck!" They liked the foccacia but picked off the rosemary. But I will keep trying!
Summary: Fun for kids and grownups
My kids got this book for Christmas, along with Pretend Soup And Other Real Recipes by the same author. We love it. The picture recipes are fun for even young kids to follow, and each recipe is preceded by cute reviews by children. There are some really fun recipes, some very quick ones if you're in a hurry, and some that are not messy at all if you don't feel like cleaning up when you're finished. I definately recommend it, it's a lot of fun!

Summary: Very disappointing - Not Mr. Beers best
I purchased both V. Gilbert Beers' "Preschoolers Bible" and "Early Readers Bible" for my niece. They were very similar in text, illustrations, reading level, and layout, but the "Early Readers Bible" was vastly superior. I tried to return the "Preschoolers Bible" but with shipping costs it would have cost me as much to return as it did to purchase it in the first place! A very disappointing purchase, and I already know which will become one of her favorite books, and which will languish unread. Not recommended, there are better children's bibles out there, even by the same author.
Summary: This book makes learning the Bible fun and interesting!
Let's face it . . . preschoolers do not have a long attention span. The Bible stories provided in this book are not only educational but they are kept to 2 or 3 pages. . . just long enough to spark the child's interest. They also provide faces to the characters which helps the child to remember the stories. My daughter and I have enjoyed the this book as well as the Beginner's Bible videos. Reading this book to your child will give them a great start in their christian lives.

Summary: Fine Developmentally Appropriate Practitioner Literacy Book
Many books claim to show teachers developmentally appropriate literacy techniques; however, many teach too far above the real (not theoretical) child...but not this book.

Hohmann presents countless activities that involve children in AUTHENTIC (not worksheet) activities that bring phonemic awareness into their lives as a living force. The application and re-application of these activities toward older early childhood children (Grades 1-3) turn this book into a valuable resource that draws a clear picture of how all levels of early childhood literacy relate to one another.

Please check it out!
