Summary: Ann! Will you marry me?
I've finally found my soul mate. A woman who is very intelligent, very good looking and able to hold her own in an intellectual bar fight. This is the blonde that offsets all other blondes.

Seriously, Ann has always been a contraversial writer, but that's becasue writers without contraversy have nothing to say. Ann's clear, consise and sometimes sarcastic wit peppers her very insightful. It's a great gift for a liberal with an open mind if you can find one.
Summary: Ann over the top
I couldn't put this one down. Ann identifies then debunks the foundations of the religion of liberalism. It will give you great insight into how liberals think and the ammunition to prove them wrong. Ann does go over the top with a couple of comments, but read the book for the 99.9% that isn't over the top, but pure conservative fact.
Summary: You'll either Love it or Hate it Depending on whether or not Your Ox is being Gored.
It amazes me how much time some people have on their hands to sit around on Amazon all day and knock books they haven't even read just because they loathe the author. They also sit around and savage reviewers they disagree with.

"Godless" is such a book. The only part most people know about is the snippet on the Jersey Girls, the WTC Widows who were probably trashing GWB before 9-11 and now do it expecting not to be criticized because they are "victims". All the controversy is much ado about nothing. All it does is make people want to buy the book and the author is the type to say anything to get publicity.

The book itself is a rehash of recent news stories about the separation of Church and State, the War on Terror, and Cultural Diversity Politics all peppered by Anne's satiric wit which may or may not be your cup of tea. Most of the allegations of "Plagarism" come from the fact that she paraphrases some well known items in the news. If you've ever been accused of plagarism on your blog or on a BBS for criticising a NYT article by someone who disagrees with you, you know this old tactic for trying to stifle disagreeable speech.

Anne spends most of her time pointing out what hypocrites those on the left are. She shows how there cannot really be values free education. She shows how the Left strains the gnat of Judeo-Christian Fundamentalism from society yet swallows the Camel of Muslim Fundamentalist Islamofascism in the name of Diversity and Political Correctness.

I personally find most of Anne's snide comments to be funny. If you enjoy her weekly column you will enjoy the book. If not don't bother.

Summary: Great Information on getting things done
The only caution I give the reader is that this book is geared toward the upper management (CEO) level. Pieces of this can be used an any and every level but the majority of this book is not applicable to all levels of management.

This book opened my eyes to things from the perspective of the highest offices of an organization. It also let me know that most of my bosses have not been very good leaders. I already knew this but this book pointed out their faults in great detail.
Summary: Good content, but nothing shocking or not covered better elsewhere
Don't get me wrong - the authors cover execution, the gaps between intent and results, and inability to create effective teams in great detail. If you've never read anything on it, this book is a decent book on the subject. However, as other reviewers have pointed out, this is a subject well covered within other books directly (Welch's Winning, etc.) or as part of a larger framework of how to run your life (7 Habits + Getting Things Done) or your business (Built to Last). It's an essential topic, but not treated in as engaging or wholistic manner as several other books in this genre.
Summary: Important book on getting the right things done
Without execution, companies are doomed to failure. Execution bridges the gap between thinking and action in the corporate arena. This book is great for all levels of management. With it, I recommend Optimal Thinking by Rosalene Glickman to maximize thinking in the workplace. And I recommend Winning by Jack Welch, the best corporate leader during the past decades.

Summary: Character Beats out All Averages, Hands Down
His emphasis on character as the basis of effective living -- and a good basis for life -- is a unifying theme that will pull together all of the other points Sean Covey places in his book. This book is no copycat of his father's book; it is sharply readable and entertaining, as he promises at the outset.

It's not hard to forget all the reasons not to be self-centered, materialistic, petty, and all the other bad things, when you keep in mind the idea of having good character as the basis for learning. In this way, too, the student can keep in mind possible explanations for parent behavior; they are reacting to stimuli that include but are not limited to things the reader may be up to. Not that parents are perfect -- not all of them, anyway. Some parents should be taken to the cleaners to dry in the sun, at least for a while. However, all other things being equal, the parent who does not aim at least part of his or her relationship with youth on the overall development and growth of his or her teen may be readily persuaded to see the light and accept the child for who he or she is by throwing this book at them.

I have to give The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens about 4 stars, but it was a toss-up. It doesn't compare well with War and Peace, but as self-improvement reading it is hard to beat the seven habits book. The title probably required a release from the father-author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People -- or a great father-son relationship, anyway. On second thought, the publisher would have required the release, regardless.

Almost nothing gets 5 stars. However, if you know somebody who is -- or if you are -- feeling messed up about which end is up and it seems that everything is racing through the mind too quickly, then slow down and look at the fundamentals, a little. Next, give this book to your parents, it should be mandatory reading as part of the parent licensing program I would propose that somebody or some group, church, religion or philosophy administer.
Summary: I love this book
Wow this is one of those books that when you first look at it it looks boring its not. I ran for the Miss pagent of my town. "In my case Miss Yucca Valley" I was told that I was going to read in this book. I love to read so I didnt think much of it. I began to read every day. I fell in love with the ideas that this book holds. I began to read every chance I got. My friends were laughing at me because all I talked about was this book. The lessons in this story really taught me something. Every teen should read it.
Summary: Simply put, it works
It's right, these are highly effective habits for not only teenagers, but anyone. I was disappointed with this miniature edition, not because there is anything wrong with it, but I did not expect it to be so small. I recommend the regular sized book. You will undoubtedly be an improved man if you read this book.

Summary: Exceptional, Life-changing and a Must have!
I found the book incredibly useful in EVERY aspect of my life! It gives you tools (lists, diagrams, and organizer inserts) which are so useful and helpful in order to live a highly effective and rewarding life based on the strength of correct and time tested principles. Stephen Covey provides very personal examples of his effective growth change as well. I like authors who do what they preach! I am confident that other readers who follow Covey's advice will find their lives to be far more organized and satisfying. This exceptional book outlines the major ways to be able to accomplish more and feel much better about yourself as a result. Additional bestseller that wowed me is scientist Ritz' "Scientfically guaranteed male multi-orgasms and ultimate sex". I dare say that these 2 books will dramatically change your life for better. That's why I highly recommend them.
Summary: What the heck is he trying to say?
All that Stephen says in this book can be said in 2 pages (as opposed to 360). I am apprehensive of authors who see their writing as a cathartic exercise. The book is supposed to be about effective habit. The church has nothing to do with it (unless only church going people can aim to pick up these habits). Its annoying to see Stephen mention church and god every so often. The book is a total let down as far as I am concerned.

Stephen and everyone else should read "How to get ideas" and "Ideaship" by Jack Foster to understand what engaging writing is all about. I guess when authors don't have a lot to say they hide behind buzz words hoping readers won't get it. I am amazed at how people got bought in by his empty talk.Do they even understand what he is taking about?

P.S - His charts and diagrams make no sense. I am an engineer and i reads to charts and graphs everyday.
Summary: Here are the 7 habits quick and easy:
1. Be proactive:If you want something to happen, figure out how, then make it happen.
2. Begin with the end in mind:The best way to predict the future is to create it.
3. Make decisions and act in accordance with them: Your current actions should always be taking you where you have decided to go.
4. Correct interaction: The best way to get what you want is to help others get what they want, always create a win/win situation for both of you.
5. Listen to understand using efffective communication: Always hear what others are saying, do not jump to your own conclusions.
6. Create synnergy, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts: In a group of people use everyone's strengths to form a strong team.
7. Amplify your greatest asset, yourself: Everyday you must work to improve yourself physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially through study, exercise, training, and experience.

I read this book 16 years ago for work and the principles have stuck with me. The win/win principle alone has made me a successful manager.I would add this book to your success library.

Summary: Manipulation Inoculation
This book should be required reading in high school and beyond. When you are finished reading this book you will start to see how manipulative sales and business people are. You even start to see people you know use these tactics though probably unwittingly.

My political science teacher was a master at using these principles. For example, she used to use the social proof principle in class by asking everyone to sit in the side of the room according to their political beliefs. The liberals or Democrats would sit to the left of the room and the conservatives would sit to the right. There were many naive people in our class who knew nothing about politics, but would gravitate toward the left side of the room where most of the students sat. I caught on to what she was doing so I stayed all by myself on the right side of the room out of rebelling; my friend was nice enought to stick it out with me, but let me tell you, the peer pressure is strong when your all by yourself, but my stuborness was stronger.

Another tactic my teacher used was commitment and consistency. She had students write and say a speech that was contrary to their beliefs and say it in front of class. One student I knew who was pretty conservative quickly became a liberal that semester and he didn't even see it coming. It didn't seem to matter that everyone knew he was arguing contrary to his beliefs including himself. He was manipulated.

I remeber the power of recprication that was used on me one time in my school library. This guy walked by me and dropped a toy with a little note on it on my table. I looked at him and thanked him thinking, wow what a nice guy. Then I read the note on the toy that read, "hi my name is joe, and I am disabled, can you please make a donation," I got really angry when I read this, but despite my anger I could feel the pressure to give this guy some money. Not only was he handicapped, but I had this toy he gave me that I couldn't possibly ever need or use. Anyway, I gave it back to him, which other students did too, but they gave him some money too, but I didn't, even though I felt like an idiot for not doing it.

In my social psychology class my teacher loved to use these manipulation techniques on us. However, she did use these techniques for social reasons and not selfish ones. She wanted the students to donate blood, so she used the commitment and consistency and social proof technique, by giving u a little speech about the benefits of donating blood and the kind of people who donate the blood(nice, intelligent etc.) Then instead of giving us the name or directions of the place to go donate blood she told us to come up to the front of the room to get the piece of paper for where to go donate the blood. Well, nobody wanted to look like they were selfish or incompetent, so they went up to the front of the classroom to get the paper. Now that everbody made the small commitment to get the paper and everyone saw them get it, there would be pressure for that person to change their view of themselves, which would increase the chances of those students donating blood. Me, I just sat in my seat feeling the peer pressure once again.

The stories I have are endless, but I have become very aware of being manipulated or influenced that I have become resistant to many things I know I would have easily fallen for.
Summary: Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion
Great insights into societies positive and negative use of 'obligation'
Summary: Extremely interesting and not a marketing book of the month
I found this book to be one of the most interesting, directly relevant to my life books that I've ever read. Every day people are all trying to use their skills of pursuasion on you to get you to act the way they want. In hopes of them benefitting. They put up huge billboards with sexy people on them. They have commercials with steaming yummy food. I know I try to influence people's opinions of me. I dress certain ways, I'm always thinking over what I said and did it help me achieve my goal or not. I realized almost everything I do is trying to influence other people as well. This book opened my eyes. This is the only book I've ever bought multiple copies of to give to friends. The whole book is told using stories that are all very interesting.

Summary: Simple Agreements make life easier
While The Four Agreements are simple, they are just as important for making life easier.

I found the reading to be enjoyable and the agreements have helped me. This is the kind of book to refer back to, if anything, just to be reminded of them to make life nicer.
Summary: Character building book
Everyone should read this book. It is easy to read, and holds your interest. It explains how keeping the 4 agreements will help you rise above pettiness and fear, and combat self doubt, and worldly negative forces, before they 'do us in.'
Summary: The Book That Changed My Life
I would give this book 1 billion stars if I could. I have read so many self-help books in my life time, but known can compare to this valuable information. I have never had a book to impact my life in such a profound and spiritual way.

I will be forever greatful. I can't remember who said: "When the student is ready the teacher will come" but one thing for sure it definitely pertains to me. I listen to this book on CD every single day sometimes twice a day. I listen to it before going to work, while in my car to and from work. I have done this ever since it arrived and I will continue to listen to this book on tape the rest of my life, and if I wear it out, I'll just buy another one.

Thank you so very much,

Karla

Summary: Excellent roadmap
This book is not your everyday self help book. It provides a fail-safe roadmap for tough communications.

1. Start with heart (what am I acting like I really want?)
2. Learn to Look (Am I going to silence or violence?
3. Make it Safe ( Why is safety at risk?)
4. Master My Stories (What is my storry?)
5. State My Path (Am I really open to others' views?}
6. Explore Other Paths (Am I actively exploring others' views?)
7. Move to Action (How will we make decisions?)

I strongly recommend this book in conjunction with Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self which teaches you how to make optimal choices and master the disturbing feelings that get in the way of optimal communication. Five stars!

Summary: Worth its weight in gold in terms of avoiding conflict!
This is a great book on communicating and conflict resolution. It is well-written and the examples communicate the intended points without distracting from the flow of the book.

The concepts in here are invaluable. They are presented in a way where one can start using them quickly in everyday life. For example, the author talks about that good communicators are always scanning to see if the listener feels safe. This sounds easy enough, but is that really something in the forefront of most people's minds? By contrasting what the average person does with what a good listener does, the finer points of emotional intelligence are called out in a way that the reader can can digest and be specific around with respect to goal setting.

This book also presents the basics of a cognitive model of how emotions get triggered and how these emotions are related to needs. This is very important to understand when feelings are running high and the way it is presented, one can apply it to difficult conversations to get at essential needs.

Overall, this is an excellent book and I recommend it without reservation. I also think Difficult Conversations is a nice compliment to this book, but if I had to get one or the other, I would probably get this one.
Summary: Crucial Conversations
Wisdom from common life. Organized thoughts and good practices for communication among people.

Summary: Everyone could learn something from this book!
I laughed and groaned my way through this book, recognizing myself and my loved ones throughout the pages. A good book for those with a severe codependency problem, or those who simply want to improve their relationships with Self and others. A bit heavy on the "positive thinking/love yourself first" mantras, but solid instruction and methods for better relating. I Highly recommend this book!
Summary: This book saved my life.
My life fell apart after I received treatment for a lower back injury and my counselor recommended I read Codependent No More. This book, coupled with the love of my best friend and my family, saved my life. I am purchasing 5 additional copies so my support network can each have their own.
Summary: HOPE - FAITH - COURAGE = This book
This book transformed my life. It gave me hope when I thought I was crazy (turns out I was not). It empowered me to take the reigns and drive. It helped uncover things about my life that I had not seen. It helped me see that I am not a victim. I don't have to sacrifice my needs and wants in order to get approval and acceptance from others. I am my own person and I don't have to let a relationship define me. I GET TO give myself permission to be in control of my choices. There is phenominal power in choices and for this I am SO GRATEFUL.
