Summary: Pales in comparison to the other 5.
I was excited to get this book, and shelled out the money to buy it. I read a lot of it on the way home from Wal-Mart, and then the rest of it that very same night. That has been a long time ago now. Yes, it has been a while since it has came out. And yes, this review is a little late. So I will make it short.

There are many things I liked about H-BP; some of the content was just impossible not to like. But as I read, I noticed that the characters seemed very distant. There was a certain lack of introspection throughout the entire book, which kind of bugged me. It was all 'action' and 'talking' but no 'feeling'.

The kissing parts... were dragged out, and lagged the book down, to make it too sappy to ever come close to earning five stars from me. But I am not a huge fan of romance novels, so that is just my personal opinion.

Yes, the book introduced a new angle to Harry Potter... and it did have a lot of twists and turns that I am still looking forward to see how they play out in the next book.

But overall, The Half-blood Prince wasn't captivating, like the predecessors. Hopefully book seven will be better, and will shed new light on this one.

Summary: from a kids point of view- LOVE IT
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT its so awesome. i was out of town when it came out. my cousin and i went at midnight, had a ball. we got the book and driving home we were reading the book with the mirror lights from the car, along with the headlight shadows. We didnt look a page ahead. at all. we didnt look to see how many pages their were. we didnt look at the chapter list. that gives it away. i was at his house for the night, and i was downstairs when my brother and he came down and grabbed my book so my bro could read my copy. i got it back. so anyways the next day all we did was eat and read. eat while reading that is. we didnt stop. it was so GOOD. not the food- the book. we finished it in 11 hours, and we wanted to read it again. the laughter, the tears, everthing!!!!!! a must read!!!!!! although if youre gonna read the seiries out of order DO NOT START WITH THIS ONE
Summary: Sheer Drivel
I was a Harry Potter fan up to this abomination of literature. It is shallow, boring, and far from thoroughly explained. A complete waste of money.

Summary: A bit slow...
This book was not quite as exciting as Eragon. It had such high hopes, and it did not leave me completely satisfied. Eldest dealt a bit too much with Eragon's training. It should show SOME of his training but not every bit of it.

However, the plot got deeper as Christopher added two new POV's to the mix: Roran and Nasuada. This kept the book interesting while we were away from Eragon. And Christopher's writing skills have exceedingly improved from the first book. I also loved the ending. It was played out masterfully and with a nice little plot twist, too. I NEVER expected it. Nicely done, Christoper.

Even though this book kinda disappointed, it is still a must-read. I'm looking forward to the third one.
Summary: More original than the first, but still...
This book was slightly more original than the first and didn't copy off Tolkien quite as much (it still did, but there was nothing new), but even as someone who hasn't seen Star Wars I can tell it took a plot twist from that. Also, I find Eragon's relationship with Oromis COMPLETELY copied from The Giver. I advise every potential buyer of this book to stay away and read Tolkien instead.
Summary: Excellent inspite of its "faults."
The Short Version: If you feel like losing yourself in an easy to read, fantastical tale with easily relatable characters, pick up and read <u>Eragon</u> and <u>Eldest</u>. Though flawed (what book isn't?) and derivative (what fantasy isn't?), it is thoroughly engrossing and enjoyable. As reader of every type of book from adolescent fantasy to classic philosophy, I look forward to the conclusion of Inheritance, as well as Paolini's future efforts. The Long Version: As unorthodox as this may be, I would like to first quote from a review on the first book of the Inheritance Trilogy, <u>Eragon</u>:<hr>I didn't find the story any more derivative than any epic fantasy tale will surely be in the wake of the grand sire of the genre, Lord of the Rings, and the story had enough uniqueness of its own to entertain. I haven't read Eldest yet, but I hope Paolini builds on what he's written here. If he does, I can't wait to read it. - Gregory Bernard Banks, author<hr>I quote this here because this person's words exactly sum up my feeling regarding Inheritance overall clearly derivative, but engrossing and enjoyable nonetheless. One thing that is important to remember when considering <u>Eldest</u> is that, unlike some other series (<u>Harry Potter</u> for instance), Inheritance is a much more intimately linked trilogy. Meaning, as a stand along book, one might consider it to be lacking in certain areas; or, how some have criticized, focused too earnestly on character history, Eragon's training as a Rider, the history of Alagaësia, etc. However, if we take the book in context, as part of a larger whole, then those "faults," if they are indeed faults, have very little weight. There were several interesting aspects in <u>Eldest</u> that I haven't seen detailed yet, specifically, the Elves' emphasis on Logic over feeling to ensure correct moral thinking, and the Elves' clearly dismissive attitude towards religion. These two sections in particular I found were interesting and clearly original, but I think that sections like this, which breath life into the series are exactly the "meaningless" or "boring" portions of the book that people railing against. Regardless of the few, necessary and well placed battles, <u>Eldest</u> contains much less action than <u>Eragon</u>. Basically, because in <u>Eragon</u>, the titular character is usually chasing or fleeing something, and, overall, is entirely unsure of what his direction in life will be. In this sequel, however, his path is set and rather well defined, so he only has to follow it--which means less fleeing, less chasing, less sudden and unexpected action, and more self-exploration, more learning about the world of Alagaësia, and what it means to be a Rider. Knowledge that, I'm sure, will come in handy for the final installment of this trilogy (in which case the path is again, uncertain, and readers can expect a great deal of fast paced action). One other aspect of the book which I found unexpected--and that added a bit of human element--was the level of intrigue and mistrust among the leadership of the "good guys" of the series. While I cannot go into detail without risking a major spoiler, I will say that, I liked that fact that Paolini didn't delve into a lot of unrealistic noble action on the part of the Varden. The people involved, including the other leaders, are very wary of other people's intentions, and often it is obvious that they are acting out of very selfish intentions. Also, a last note of praise, was the sudden alliances and sacrifices made in the course of war. And the acknowledgment of the fact that, though their intentions may be noble, the protagonists of this story could very easily mimic the actions of the evil King Galbatorix. In addition to that, the knowledge that their actions will cause suffering to a great many people. There are, of course, a few minor faults and one fault that I consider to be major (though it could be corrected in book 3). Occasionally, as in his first book, Paolini sprinkles in a few phrases in seemingly archaic language. Not that the fantasy genre isn't full of such language, but he uses them in such a way as to seem suddenly forced and contrived. So, instead of giving the ideas expressed by them the poignancy and impact that I am certain was his intention, it makes them silly. This of course, is only my opinion on the matter, and this occasional flaw shouldn't hamper someone's enjoyment of the novel unless they have resigned themselves to the pinnacle of snobbery. The major flaw, which I hope is expounded upon and thus corrected in the coming book, is the shameless use of a deus ex machina, about which I will not reveal specifics because I would rather not spoil the plot. For those of you unaware of that term, it is the use of a sudden plot device that solves a whole host of problems and fixes a whole lot of plot holes in a single instance. Sometimes, it's funny, sometimes, it's excellently explained. However, in <u>Eldest</u>, there is virtually no precedent set in the book to accommodate the instance in question. And, in turn, the incident is then used to wrap up a whole host of issues that Eragon had been struggling to overcome. The only redeeming aspect is that,, at the end of the book, it's made clear that what was a cure-all in this book will not be in the next. My biggest hope, in this regard, is that some of time will be spent explaining the exact nature of the event, how and why it happened, so that it doesn't seem like such a lazy or sudden way out.

Summary: very thought-provoking...
This book really ropes you in and, if you have an afternoon to spare, it makes a great yet unsettling one-sitting read. When you think about this story and all the characters in it and then examine your own life and social setting, I would think most people could come up with at least one person who shares a good deal of the same traits.

Now, I say this often, but I'll say it again: books like this one really need to become required reading for students. When I was in school, none such works were encouraged until my junior year of high school and even then they weren't required.

As for the rating of 5 stars, I think this is an all-around classic; the main character is well-described, emotions (or in the case of some characters, lack thereof) are evident and the ending leaves just enough questions to induce reflection and yet leave the reader satisfied. No complaints here at all.
Summary: Great Discussion Book
I am a high school teacher, and Fahrenheit 451 is one of my favorite books to teach. First of all, the students enjoy the story, the images, and the writing style. With an opening sentence of "It was a pleasure to burn," even students who usually don't like reading "eat" up this novel. With Bradbury's eerie insight into today's society (the book was written in the 1950's) and the topics of censorship, the value of books, etc, I never run out of things to discuss with the students.
The novel makes people think, question today's society, remember great pieces of literature, and explore controversial topics. Despite instances of mild language, the images of the book stick with the reader; the mechanical hound, the hearth and the salamander, the venom spitting python hose are just some of those fantastic images that permeate the book.
I highly recommend the novel. It's worth a second read if you haven't picked it up in awhile, and if you've never read it, you are missing one fabulous novel.
Summary: Burning! Burning!
Imagine what tomorrow will be like without books, a time when books are condidered extremely malevolent and a time when firemen's jobs are not to put down fire but to start fire. This is what Montag, our main character does.

This book tells of Montag's gradual realization of the superficialness around him and encounters the very taboo that he was told to destroy. Montag soon realizes that books were not only not evil, but a precious thing that needed to be saved. We see Montag's progression in this book, from the girl he met on the street, who said that she was "tasting the rain" to his wife, whose only interests were watching TV and hangs out with other friends of hers. Montag came to conflict with his society as he finally rejects it altogether. Eventually he did something that no one would think of. And that something may just be the path to save knowledge.

Summary: Not bad but not great
Pretty good book, it's got a lot of good info about seafaring and pirates. What I found objectionable was the fake female pirate history, probably inspired by some impulse to imbue yet another otherwise interesting topic with unneeded political correctness. I'm only surprised the author didn't include a 'differently abled' pirate or some other such nonsense. From Winnie the Pook to pirates, it seems like everything nowadays is dragged into service to preach the latest politically correct theories. It's boring, amateurish, and sure to make the book obsolete within months.
Summary: look lively landlubbers!
if you want to learn about pirates this is the book for you! it teaches you about navigation and even tying knots for all ye scallawags out there.but what really surprised me was that the original unadapted version was actually(your not going to believe this)found under the ocean!although the socalled author "william lubber " or "arabella drummond are'nt real, it's still packed with information about those old thieves that have so many stories. i liked this book a lot and if you are interested in pirates as much as i am you should really get this book!
Summary: Land ho!
This book is a great read for children and adults alike...(because we all know that we are all still kids at heart!)
With it's inside peaks and interactive panels it is hard not to get drawn up into this book. So come let your imagination free for a few minutes and read this book. Discover hidden treasure and even some pirate letters with hidden messages on the back!
Who knows it may even inspire you to go on a treasure hunt yourself!

Summary: Loved It Loved It....
I Love this James Patterson series. I wished the story wouldnt end. The story never got boring, the action was great, and I loved the charactors. I cant wait for the next installment of Maximum Ride......
Summary: It's a shame to limit its audience to advanced teen readers - so don't: pick up a copy and fly
Written for a young adult audience but recommended here for a wide audience of adults as well is the second book in the 'Maximum Ride' series, a story populated by six kids being hunted by killers. The teens are slated to save the world - if they can survive. And, they can even fly. Fans of THE ANGEL EXPERIMENT will love this second book, but newcomers will also find it highly accessible and impossible to put down. It's a shame to limit its audience to advanced teen readers - so don't: pick up a copy and fly.

At first the flock is scared, but then they find out that the Erasers are clumsy in the air because of their size and weight. After a battle with them, Fang gets seriously injured. The flock can't help him, so they take him to the hospital. Well, the doctor finds out that they have wings, and the FBI comes to investigate. Summary: A Great Read !!!!!!
In the begining Peter and the Lost boys are on the island and soon a boat comes to the island. Peter can now fly all the time and he doesn't age. These pirates have come with a mysterious thing called lord Ombra that doesn't seem human. When he gets the information he needs about the where abouts of a powerful substance, starstuff from the Mollusk villagers he sets off from the island towards Molly Aster and her family(from Peter and the Starcatchers).Peter had seen this Ombra on the island and how he somehow took control of people by their shadows and he glides insted of walks. When he learns Molly is in danger, he leaves the island by stowing away with Ombra and the Pirates, in order to warn her in London where she lives. Peter now has to find Molly in London before Ombra does. Now with the help of Molly and Tinkerbell, his bird girl companion, they must defeat Ombra so he does not get the Starstuff before the Return where the Starstuff is returned to the Heavens.

I gave this book a five star because it was an excellent exciting read. With some new characters such as George Darling, who also along with Peter seems to like Molly and Tinkerbell with amazing abilities who was only introduced in the first one, this book is great. It also had some great illustrations. Anyone who reads this book would like it as much as I did. I couldn't put the book down because it was so good!
Summary: One of Kyle's favorites
My son Kyle is almost as big a reader as I am. Peter and the Shadow Thieves has quickly become one of his favorites, especially as it tells the continuing story of Peter Pan. His other favorite book is Robert Stanek's The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches.
Summary: The continued past of Peter Pan.

Peter Pan is back, now a immortal youth stranded on Mollusk Island (Never Land) with his group of lost boys in tow. James, Prentiss, Thomas, and Tubby Ted are great admirers of his abilities, however the fact that they can never join in on his fun of tormenting Black Stache (whom Peter has redubbed Captain Hook) is always a point of contention. Suddenly there is a new ship that appears to stir things up, a ship captained by a certain noseless man named Nerezza, an ominous creature of darkness named Lord Ombra, and the former captain of the Never Land, Slank. They have come to find the starstuff that had previously come to the island with Peter, only to learn that it has been returned to London with Lord and Molly Aster.

Peter greatly fears this Ombra, especially since his faithful companion birdwoman, Tinkerbell, is terrified of him. He worries for Molly, a dear friend of his from the previous adventure, and decides to return with the ship in secret so that he might warn Molly of this frightening creature. Things become complicated when he arrives in London. First and foremost he must find Molly's home, a feat that proves quite difficult for the orphaned boy. Also, there is a sudden wave of shadow theft in London, something that leaves a person but a mere shell of their former self. Peter suspects it is connected to Ombra, and vows to reach the Asters before he does, knowing full well that Molly very life is at stake. But can he do it in time, in a town where he has no notion of where she is, and worse is the fact that he cannot use any of his new abilities in order to find her.

This continues to be a great new addition to the Peter Pan legend. I loved Peter and the Starcatchers, and this part not only continues in the same vein, but it retains all of it's drama and excitement, making this series a fast paced treat that is sure to delight readers of all ages. I adored the addition of some new characters, George Darling, for one, who is in line for Molly's affections along with Peter, Nerezza the pirate, Lord Ombra, the dark and sinister villain that makes Hook look like a meddling child, and even J.M. Barrie makes a brief appearance. Overall, this book is a definite treat and something that I believe people will treasure in years to come just as much as Barrie's original creation.

Summary: Ender's Game
What an amazing story! I have read a lot of science fiction in my life, and this story is truly unique. So many people can relate with Ender. His story is sad, triumphant, thought-provoking, so many things. A MUST READ for science fiction fans. It made my hour-long commute fly by!
Summary: Enders Game
If you like Star Wars and space books then you will like Ender's Game. I am going into high school and I am 14 years old. There are a good amount of characters. Ender is a 6-year-old boy who is supposed to save the world. He is a genius. It is interesting because a 6-year-old tries to save the world when this doesn't normally happen. The book shifts scenes so it keeps you on your toes. The language is challenging so it should be for a high school or older kid. Someone reading this book will want to buy the next book because the last chapter leads into Speaker for the Dead.
Summary: The true heir to Heinlein's smart, likeable heroes
This book is a "Starship Troopers" for the Information Age, where enemies never come within a thousand kilometers of each other, but live or perish depending on how well they play computer games.

Six-year-old Ender has his personal monitor removed after living with it for three years. Now isolated from his overseers, he's a target for the school bullies and his homicidal brother, Peter. Only after he overcomes these obstacles is Ender allowed to join the International Force's Battle School in space.

This is the beginning of Ender's real struggle.

Humanity was once almost wiped out by aliens called the buggers. Only the brilliance of a single general saved us. Now the International Force is trying to create a new general before the buggers show up again and complete their genocide.

Ender is an extremely likeable genius--the exact opposite of the clichéd 'evil genius,' which I was getting pretty bored with anyway. He's a sort of six-year-old Byronic hero, earnest and determined to succeed in spite of his new enemies (geniuses themselves) at Battle School. His new mentors immediately and publicly single him out as someone special, and as a result Ender has to break one bully's arm on the shuttle up to school.

Thanks a lot, Teach.

This book's science is plausible, the background story is interesting, the mock battles are exciting and a great device for revealing Ender's growing tactical genius. His character is strengthened through his constant struggle with his envious and sometimes sadistic classmates. I wasn't too interested in the chapters concerning his psychopathic brother and loving sister, but I suppose they're important to the numerous sequels to "Ender's Game." This book's ending is a bit contrived, its climax impersonal and deflated, but other than that Orson Scott Card treats us to brilliant science fiction that is well deserving of its Hugo and Nebula. Ender is the true heir of Heinlein's smart, likeable, believable heroes.
