Summary: Gives lots of ideas for activities
This book is good for parents that need ideas on how to keep their toddler entertained. It is nice because it tells parents what activities are developmentally appropriate for toddlers. It also incorporates things the family have at home so it does not involve buying lots of stuff.
Summary: Have a tot? Will love this book!!!!!
At our house we own almost all Kuffner's books! Our 3yo is 100mph 24/7 so new activities are a must! Love her book, full of great easy to fix activities. The ideas are fantastic and most importantly... they fascinate the li'l dude! Explore the Busy Box concept! We love it! There's always a surprise factor associated with it! Thanks Trish for one more wonderful resource!
Summary: Worth every penny!
An excellent book! I'm so glad I decided to buy it as well as its companion, the Preschooler's Busy Book by the same author. Lots of unique ideas for everyday play, the vast majority of which go far beyond the usual suggestions of finger play during well-known nursery rhymes. Such a breath of fresh air!!

Summary: Just as wonderful as the Toddler Busy book
I ordered the two books together and they are highly recommended. Ms. Kuffner doesn't repeat (much) in the books so it's worth it to have both. My 3 year old and his 11 year old sister love the activities in this book as well as many adults who have played with us.

I have been using both books to put together a homeschool preschool program for my 2 sons, and they're great for that.
Summary: A great resource idea book!
I get a TON of ideas from Preschooler's Busy Book by Trish Kuffner. I'm a home daycare provider and I'm always looking for ideas to do with my daycare kids. I don't know what I would do with out this book. It'a MUST have for home daycare providers and parents of small kids
Summary: Best Kids Book for Moms!
This is the best book for moms. It's packed with creative ideas that are easy and inexpensive. You can get your kids busy with something new everyday of the year!

Summary: Who woulda thunk it?
If you're one of those who tucks the camera away during airplane flights because there's nothing to photograph -- think again. Who would have thought there were so many picture possibilities as close as a window seat? Clouds, terrain, even parts of the plane itself all become subjects for the wonderful photographs in this book. If you need to spark your creativity, you'll reap a huge harvest of ideas simply by leafing through this book. The "how to" section is useful, too, but the pictures are the main attraction.
Summary: LOOKOUT!
Look out an airplane window again, for the first time, and study the ever changing cloud formations and the variety of patterns of earth. "Window Seat..." is an invitation to ignore the TV and DVDs in the plane and to marvel at what can be seen from the window. The book has many gorgeous color photographs taken out the window and encourages one to do likewise.
This book now has me not only looking out of airplane windows with a new view in mind but it also has done something else. Instead of watching TV the other night during a lightning storm, I decided to turn off the TV, turn off the lights, look out my window and simple watch the the bright dancing patterns of lightning against a black sky. I even took a few photos out the window. Windows have now taken on a new meaning for me.

Summary: Photography 2.0 - Stunning!!!
This is not a book about digital photography, nor is it a book about Photoshop. This is a book about the creative process of making digital images.

The real WOW moment for me was getting to the end of the book and seeing the before/after comparisons of the original and the digitally enhanced images. I redirected the awe that I felt seeing nature's beauty to an appreciation for the skills and artistry of the author.

Yes, this book DOES cover digital photography and Photoshop - but it is ultimately about the creative process using these tools.

Summary: Much needed help for the busy teacher!
I saw this book in a workshop and had to have it! It was so easy to make the centers... I just cut out the full color peices, laminated them, and put them in the box, folder, or hanger. The games even come with a recording sheet for the students. This is a must have for independent reading centers!
Summary: Book Worm
This book is excellent. It has tonds of ideas and information for centers. If you don't have space for the centers, creating the suggested take to your seats centers is the solution. Great book!
Summary: Very good resource
This book is a great source of center material. I was able to put the pocket folder centers together in on hour (not counting laminating). The hanger centers are a little bit harder for the children to work with and take more time to put together. The shoe box centers also take more time to construct but are easily used by the children. I recommend this book. I was able to quickly add new centers to my collection. The centers are colorful and engaging. A worksheet is included on which children can record their work. I wish there was another book like this with additional centers that was strictly pocket folder centers--they are so easy to store and take up so little space. I did adapt some of the non-pocket folder centers into pocket folder centers.

Summary: Read with a mind open to all things and attached to nothing
It seems to me much of the problem some readers are having with The Seat of the Soul is having the material validated so that it meets their approval. That is an impossibility due to the very nature of the subject. In order to comprehend certain things we must change our current frame of reference. This is explained in the book:
"What does it mean to say that an invisible realm exists in which the origins of our deeper understandings are located? What are the implications of considering the existence of a realm that is not detectable through the five senses, but that can be known, explored, and understood by other human faculties?
When a question is asked that cannot be explained within the common frame of reference, it can be classified as nonsensical, or it can be dismissed as a question that is not appropriate, or the person who is asking the question can expand his or her consciousness to encompass a frame of reference from which the question can be answered. The first two options are the easy ways out of a confrontation with a question that appears to be nonsensical or inappropriate, but the seeker, the true scientist, will allow himself or herself to expand into a frame of reference from which the answers that he or she is seeking can be understood." Pg 28-29.
...and "The Universe is a hierarchy that has no bottom and no top. Between the levels of the hierarchy there is an understanding that higher perceptions can be a part of, and are encouraged to be a part of, the experience of lower plane spirits as they strive to expand their own awareness.
...Our nonphysical assistance comes from ranges of nonphysical Light that are higher in frequency than our own. The intelligences that assist and guide us, unconsciously in the case of the five-sensory personality, and consciously in the case of the multisenory personality, are of a higher rank in creation than we, and therefore, can provide us with a quality of guidance and assistance that we cannot give to each other". Pg 98.
But changing our perception of ourselves and the universe has occurred throughout our existence. At one time it was considered correct to think that the earth was flat, unmoving, and everything in the universe revolved around us. We also burned people alive for making claims that were not in accordance with our understanding of truth at the time.
Are there paradoxes in The Seat of the Soul? Perhaps, but that again depends upon ones frame of reference. There are also paradoxes in science. Such as, how can light be two different things at once, both a wave and a particle? Or, how can something as immaterial as consciousness arise from something as unconscious as matter? And many, many others. But that doesn't mean we should disregard these things. What is really needed is a change in our ideas about reality and what Truth is - ultimately; a change in us is what is needed.
You probably won't be truly drawn to The Seat of the Soul unless you are open to change - that is, changing yourself. That is not such an easy thing to do. Most of us spend so much of our life trying to change others instead of ourselves.
As Gary put it so well: "The journey to the soul begins with understanding that we are drawn automatically as a species to come to terms with power. Each human being is experiencing the causes and effects of his or her choices, his or her desires to fill in the empty, powerless places within him or her. This dynamic can be described in terms of an insecure humanity, but that is just the obvious. The mechanism at work is the journey toward genuine, authentic empowerment.
This is why each human being struggles so deeply with power: the lack of it, the acquisition of it, what it is really, how one should have it. Underlying every crisis, emotional, spiritual, physical and psychological, is the issue of power. Depending upon the lens that you wear to interpret your crisis, you will either step closer to your soul or closer to the earth.
The journey to wholeness requires that you look honestly, openly, and with courage into yourself, into the dynamics that lie behind what you feel, what you perceive, what you value, and how you act. It is a journey through your defenses and beyond so that you can experience consciously the nature of your personality, face what it has produced in your life, and choose to change that." Pg 147

Summary: One of the Greatest Books Ever Written
I'm so surprised by the negative reviews for "The Seat of the Soul" on Amazon that I felt compelled to write this one. This is one of the greatest books ever written. It completely transformed my life and will yours too if you read it thoughtfully and are able to absorb Zukav's concepts.

It's the first time I ever really understood karma, reincarnation, and Divine Intelligence -- via the mind of a scientist who is really a prophet. If you've ever been troubled and longed to heal your deepest wounds by finding the courage to actually feel your feelings (instead of doing everything possible to distract yourself from them), this book will be a road map to the love and goodness that can make you whole.
Summary: Wonderful Introduction to Metaphysical Ideas
I've been looking for a good metaphysical primer book to recommend to friends, family etc.. that incorporates many so called "new age" (old age) ideas like karma, forgiveness, non-judgment, positive thinking and manifestation etc... and this is a good one.

There are a couple really negative, sour reviews here from people who seem to be experts on metaphysics, the reviews don't seem to come from the heart but rather from the ego mind, all I can say is beware of those who "know". When talking about God and spirituality, no one can really know for sure until this life is over.

I traded in my "beliefs" for "ideas", ideas unlike beliefs do not need to be defended, allowing one to be more open and un-offended by different views, beliefs or ideas.

"The river does not get angry at the boulder that lay in it's path, instead, it simply flows around it, choosing the path of least resistance back to the sea".

Life is too short to be righteous and nit pick the spiritual beliefs of others. Choose non resistance, choose love.

If unsure about a book, go to your local Borders or Barnes and Nobles, pick it up, flip through the pages, see how it feels in your hands, if it feels good, then buy it, take it home and take from it what resonates with you.

Summary: MUST read for all riders
I've never really benefited from reading books about riding in the past, but Hunter Seat Equitation changed that! I constantly refer to the book when I'm riding and it has made me much more aware of my body and aids. The pictures are wonderful and really give a good example of what you are trying to achieve. It even includes things you might not expect, like how to choose the right horse to compliment your style of riding. Wonderful book.
Summary: Best book on riding
This is the best book on how to ride. Written logically, and so the reader can understand how to ride. Watch the video after reading the book. Every time you read it, you get more out of it.
Summary: Required Reading
The guru of hunt seat equitation, George Morris's word is law as far as the hunter/jumper rider is concerned. Anyone seriously involved in the sport should be expected to read this book.

Summary: don't have to be a chicken....
I am so tired of the clich response to critics those who can't do, blah blah blah. As if it constituted some sort of argument. Here's another clich saying for you: You don't have to be a chicken to smell a rotten egg.

As to the example of Rich's venality, let's walk through the argument:

1) Rich writes a somewhat favorable review in which he discusses things he think would make it a better play.
2) The producers make those changes.
3) Rich thinks it's a better play.

What a monster!

Also, I love the hypocrisy of "mindless drones." Don't read reviews to figure out what to think...unless of course it's my review of Rich's book. Talk about mindless.

Rich is a fine writer with true insights and provocative opinions. You don't like them? Fine.

Summary: Those who can't do.......
Frank Rich was a petty, venal little fellow who used his lofty position in a mannner unsuitable for a drama critic of his alleged stature. One well known example goes that he gave a somewhat favorable review to a show, telling the producers where it needed the most work... the producers complied by doing everything rich asked ( some say with Rich's help), and lo and behold..at it's broadway premiere it received a positively glowing frank rich review! It is an absolute truth that part of the reason Broadway is at its lowest point in history now is because of Frank Rich. No producer would sink millions into a show just to have Rich ,entertaining the sheep who read his column, tear apart anything that didn't appeal to his limited tastes.

Shame on the mindless drones who need someone else to give them an opinion about a show, or a movie, or a piece of music, and shame on anyone who would buy this trash( surely just to read the venomous attacks on various shows, since that is how this crap is being marketed..and people love to watch a car wreck) and support a sorry S.O.B. like Frank Rich who almost single handedly wiped out one of Americas great contributions to the arts..the musical.

Summary: Let's Not Forget
While Rich's book may be a somewhat useful book of reviews he created for the New York Times, it must be remembered how he nearly ruined Broadway by writing hostile reviews of shows written by creative people he didn't like and glowing reviews for his personal favorites. He and his soon to be wife (Alex Witchel) who wrote the Friday Broadway column in times gave new meaning to the words "conflict of interest" and nearly destroyed Broadway in the process.

Summary: New to Reggio Emilia approach - loved this book
I am not a teacher and I was not experienced in the Reggio Emilia approach to preschool education (project approach) before reading this book. I sought this book for handwork ideas with the items my girls collect on their nature walks. I could not put this book down!

Beautiful stuff outlines the projects developed with found materials at the pre-school in Reggio Emilia, Italy. It starts at the beginning with the ideas of the teachers, the method of including parents and increasing children's awareness of everyday objects. (This book is full of details - they mention how the teachers scan materials and remove inappropriate / dangerous materials).

The book is filled with photographs from beginning to end. The photographs themselves show the story. I especially like the different approaches to sorting suggested in this book and the amount of time the children were permitting to sort, touch, feel, enjoy, and organize the materials. I also liked the three-dimensional project where the children first drew what they were going to build.

The children are quoted throughout the book. The quotes are memorable and sweet and show the children's enjoyment of this entire project.

I would recommend this book to pre-school teachers, day care centers, people who baby-sit in their home or parents looking for ideas for found objects. I loved it!

Summary: A wonderful book for caring teachers of young children!
This book is a great way to ease yourself into Reggio or to inspire others on your team. You do not have to be "Reggio inspired" to know that young children love small, collectable items. They find such wonderful treasures, but classrooms are not often set up to make good use of this "Beautiful Stuff". This book has great photos and easy to read text showing readers the process that children and staff went through in developing this long term project. I particularly enjoyed the summaries at the end of each chapter on what the adults learned during the process. My only complaint would be that I wanted MORE!
Summary: Beautiful Stuff! Learning with found materials.
If you are a Reggio inspired teacher as I am, you will love this book. It takes you through the wonderful process of sharing the joys of all those little treasures that young children find and love. You will be amazed at how clever the children in your class become at sorting and classifying through the kinds of experiences that working with 'Beautiful Stuff' involes. I just love this book, it has changed the way I view the materials that I put out for the children, and how I use them. My friends also love this book and all ask, "where did you get it?" Thank you Cathy Topal Weisman and Lella Gandini you are inspiring.
