Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Simple Agreements make life easier While The Four Agreements are simple, they are just as important for making life easier. I found the reading to be enjoyable and the agreements have helped me. This is the kind of book to refer back to, if anything, just to be reminded of them to make life nicer. Summary: Character building book Everyone should read this book. It is easy to read, and holds your interest. It explains how keeping the 4 agreements will help you rise above pettiness and fear, and combat self doubt, and worldly negative forces, before they 'do us in.' Summary: The Book That Changed My Life I would give this book 1 billion stars if I could. I have read so many self-help books in my life time, but known can compare to this valuable information. I have never had a book to impact my life in such a profound and spiritual way. I will be forever greatful. I can't remember who said: "When the student is ready the teacher will come" but one thing for sure it definitely pertains to me. I listen to this book on CD every single day sometimes twice a day. I listen to it before going to work, while in my car to and from work. I have done this ever since it arrived and I will continue to listen to this book on tape the rest of my life, and if I wear it out, I'll just buy another one. Thank you so very much, Karla Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: A must read for anyone interested in spiritual issues Many of my wise and spiritual friends recommended that I read Blue Like Jazz. Having said that, I went into reading the book with very high expectations. And Blue Like Jazz did not disappoint. Not only is the book incredibly easy to read and thought provoking, it is moving and relatable to any person who has at any time considered spirituality and the meaning of life. Donald Miller is an engaging writer whose honesty and openness about his own life encourages his readers to ask questions and to challenge themselves to new ideas about old themes. I highly enourage any person even slightly interested in spiritual issues to take the time to read this book. Summary: Amazing book! After reading this I felt released from living under the heavy burden of "have to's". This book reminded me that when I became a Christian, I didn't sign up to live my life pressed tightly into the mold we're so often told we need to fit into to be a "good" Christian. This book reminded me that when I accepted Christ, I made a commitment to follow HIM. And Jesus doesn't press us into molds, forcing us to become just like everyone else. If we let Him, He'll lead us toward who we were born to be- completely unique and completely His. Christianity is LIBERATING and I forgot that for a while... this book helped me remember. Summary: Excellent book A great book to read. It's quick, and the author's style is personal and holds one's interest. I strongly recommend this book. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Amazing!! Wonderful book! Immaculee is awesome. Never will I complain about my "hardships." A must read for everyone! Summary: A Must-Read for Virtually All Readers. A Classic. Immaculee Ilibagiza's "Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust" is magnificent, a must-read for almost all audiences. Young children should not read this book. (One can hope that a version suitable for children will be developed.) Other than children, though, men, women, Americans, Africans, citizens of all nations, resistant and voracious readers, readers of pop literature and readers of the Western Canon, persons of faith and absolute atheists - all can enjoy this book, be moved by it, and grow from it. "Left to Tell" is a classic worthy to be placed next to Victor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning" and Corrie ten Boom's "The Hiding Place." Buy ten copies, and hand them out as gifts. "I was born in paradise," reports Immaculee Ilibagiza. Child of loving parents, sister to loving brothers, this Tutsi girl began her days swimming in Lake Kivu and concluded them praying together with her devout Catholic family. She worked hard at school and, in spite of great odds arrayed against her by government programs, she earned a spot at university. In 1994, when she was a university student, the unspeakably horrible Rwandan genocide broke out. It was hell on earth. Using machetes, Interahamwe killers committed the quickest genocide in recorded history, murdering, often in the most gruesome ways imaginable, approximately a million Tutsi and Hutu who refused to join in killing their Tutsi neighbors. "Left to Tell" recounts Immaculee's survival of this hell, and her family's less fortunate fate. The book's language is basic. Advanced vocabulary and complex figures of speech and storytelling forms are not used. An adolescent, or someone for whom English is a second language, could understand this book. The book's basic language is not indicative of shallow depth. Some of the toughest questions human beings face confront Immaculee as she hides from killers who call for her by name, she deals with these questions with power and sophistication. In that, "Left to Tell" is like the Bible, which also often uses basic vocabulary to speak deep truths. "Left to Tell" is a page turner. It moves as quickly and relentlessly as a thriller. With raw language, it depicts many close calls, including Immaculee's being inches from men who would kill her, who draw sparks by sharpening their machetes on pavement. The book is also an emotional roller coaster. This reader did, truly, out loud, laugh, and cry, and gasp, not just on one or two pages, but on page after page, from the beginning to the end. There are no boring parts. In short, virtually any reader can pick up this book and have a rewarding experience. Students of genocide will find here a valuable asset to understanding atrocity. In Belgium-colonized Rwanda, Tutsi occupied a "middleman minority" status, to use the language of Edna Bonacich. Like the Jews in Eastern Europe, minority Tutsi occupied a fragile niche. Evil men dehumanized Tutsi via radio broadcasts, in which Tutsi were completely dehumanized - labeled "cockroaches" - and blamed for all of impoverished Rwanda's problems. The "final solution" to Rwanda's problems was to eliminate the Hutu. "Left to Tell" is a brief, but informative, snapshot of the genocide mentality. Immaculee is a Christian, specifically, a Catholic. She survives the genocide with her faith intact. "Left to Tell" recounts Immaculee's spiritual survival, as well as her biological one. As such, this book is one of the most remarkable testimonies to faith that you can possibly read. Some readers here have objected to Immaculee's stated belief that God protected her. Why didn't God protect the million others killed? This is a reasonable question. Immaculee makes clear that her relatives who were sadistically murdered were, like her, devout Catholics, good people, and undeserving of death. It is not an accurate assessment of "Left to Tell" to imply that the book's author's faith is so simple that she does not understand that good people, who pray very hard, die. The book, rather, wrestles with a very complex, and sometimes very evil world, and provides a beautiful, uplifting, inspirational, and challenging example - and invitation to every one of us - that the author, and her story, has deeply earned. On a final note: it is gratifying to me, as a reader, that the most important book I've read this year was written by an African woman, depicting African family life, and an African historical event. Having worked in Africa, I appreciate the hard fate African women shoulder with their every breath. I hope that more such works make their way to us. Summary: where is paperback? I want to send this to a relative in jail, but they can only receive paperback. Could you please print in paperback so that I may buy this and ship it directly to him? Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: Don't Bother Don't EVEN bother buying this book. If you can avoid the snores with all the medical mumbo-jumbo, maybe this book is for you. Bottom line is: don't fret about aging because it's going to happen to you and eat right, exercise and take your vitamins. So what else is new? P.S. Dr. Weil writes that there are no anti-aging remedies yet he advertises Origins mushroom face creams--hmmm..... Summary: Thoroughly researched, fascinating and valuable! It is rare to find so fascinating, in-depth and of great value book! Dr. Weil did a good job in explaining many aspects of the process of aging in a pleasant, understandable and useful way. His style of writing is very calm, delicate and it is a pleasure to read his entire book. I completely agree that your efforts and money will be better spent on turning your aging into a nourishing and valuable part of your life instead of fighting it as something malignant. I am sure that Weil's unique and very wise approach to aging will cause a paradigm-shift in his readers. It is enough to look at him and feel his serenity, dignity, wisdom and sense of well-being which he radiates. All of these qualities reflect on his work and hopefully will guide you towards a better health, aging and spiritual depth. Another bestseller, which also reveals key biosubstances and processes is "Scientifcally guaranteed male multi-orgasms and ultimate sex" by scientist Ritz. I whole heartedly recommend both books. Summary: I admit, I loved this book. First of all I like the author's respectful attitude for old age, a rather rare attitude in our society... "Healthy Aging" is a good guide for adopting healthy lifestyle in order to avoid many ailments that are usually associated with old age. However, this book is not only a nutritional guide. Dr. Weil focuses not only on your body but he also gives a lot of attention to your soul. It turns out that from the point of view of longevity Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 1 Reviews: Summary: falls short I am surprised to see so many positive reviews of Tolles latest book considering the criticism in recent studies. Paula Marvellys new bestseller Teachers of one, for example showed the inadeqacy of Tolles doctrine based on non duality and this a a very indepth study. Recent customer reviews of his old book Power of Now also expose the problems with Tolles work. AS a self help book then certainly it may be helpful for a short time but for those interested in going deeper and getting satisfying answers Tolles work falls very far short. Summary: Another repeat How strange. Last week on this site the last ten out of twelve reviews were very negative of Tolles latest copy. Today they have all been deleted. No wonder Tolles books sell well if only positive reviews are kept. I expect this will go after a week or so. Watch and see. Lesson here is do not wrote a negative review. It will be deleted. How? Simple. One or two of Tolles fanatical disciples will complain. Yet Tolles says everything is perfect so how come they do not seem to follow this part of his story? Summary: Excellent book I personally connect with the wisdom of this timely book and have reread it and Tolle's other books several times. I've recommended it to my family members but haven't pushed it on them. It's there if and when they are ready for it. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Truth Is A Stranger To Fiction Wow! What a great book! Really. Author and main character of "Way Of The Peaceful Warrior," Dan Millman weaves a fast, catchy and easy-to-read story-line that is also slow and penetrating enough to seep into the pores of consciousness with words by enigmatic teacher and "warrior," Socrates - a name given to the Japanese master upon the first meeting of the two. The journey shared within the pages is bound to create a magical enlightenment for some readers, a familiar knowing and relate-ability for others. It promises to be uplifting and inspiring for all, reminding us that we truly are spiritual beings who temporarily live in a physical body. Near the end of the story, as Dan made his escape from "the box," finding the gateway to reality, he wishes to tell everyone: "There is no need to search; achievement leads to nowhere. It makes no difference at all, so just be happy now! Love is the only reality of the world, because it is all One, you see. And the only laws are paradox, humor, and change. There is no problem, never was, and never will be. Release your struggle, let go of your mind, throw away your concerns, and relax into the world. No need to resist life; just do your best. Open your eyes and see that you are far more than you imagine. You are the world, you are the universe; you are yourself and everyone else, too! It's all the marvelous Play of God. Wake up, regain your humor. Don't worry, you are already free!" This is a book I plan to re-read. It has also sparked my interest in reading the sequel, "Sacred Journey Of The Peaceful Warrior," an integral part of Dan's in-between years of the first book. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Haiku inspired by this book: Summary: Heartfelt, but a little hokey. I bought the book immediately after the seeing the movie. Somehow, the movie had more of an impact; Dan isn't a natural writer, but his experiences are compelling, and well worth the read. Summary: Fantastic and fun! This book certainly changed my life and confirmed many of my own insights. Dan's style of teaching with humour was very effective. My son can't wait to read it when he's old enough. He loved Dan Millman's other children books. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: A FUN READ The testing for truth is hardly the crux of this book. While it is supportive, the main theme as I read it is the levels of consciousness that we can look forward to attaining and understanding that we can get there by handling the transition properly. I would suggest that you transcend by adding the love(word) of God to this process. Summary: Unexplainably brilliant First of all, make sure you finish the books (I'm in including "Eye of the I" and "I, Reality and Subjectivity") even if you can't get past the kinesiology due to your (and my) scientific side. All the scientific "backing" (much of which is being debated in the respective fields... so don't let that disgust you) to his experiences is really beside the point, move on, it's worth it. If you're REALLY looking for INSIGHT (not proof) into the way things work and the your mind works, these are your books. If your looking for something to grab onto and USE for some kind of proof or position supporter at a cocktail party, forgetaboutit. IF you're looking for a nuts and bolts book about which part of the brain does what with proofs and examples like Pinker or Damasio (highly recommended for that, over Pinker by a mile) this book is not for you. This is an overall explaination of the way the (conscious) mind works overall based on Dr. Hawkins experiences. DAK Summary: How to Tell the Truth In this work, Hawkins effectively provides tools to discern truth in both secular and spiritual matters. He shows that integrity, combined with a deep understanding of Truth, gives one the power to achieve goals in the most meaningful and self-motivating way: the way that benefits all of us; whereas the use of force to achieve one's goals results in hollow victories that harm others. By integrating wisdom from the great spiritual teachers of the distant past (Jesus, Buddha, Krishna) with a deep understanding of the human psyche, his personal epiphanies, and a bit of modern science, Hawkins is able clearly to explain the various levels of consciousness, or awareness of Truth, and how they affect behavior. After reading this book, you will wish Hawkins had been your psych professor, if not your personal guru in spiritual matters. This book will not displease even the skeptical (it did not bother me, even though I did not agree with everything), for nearly every assertion, no matter how outlandish it might seem at first, is presented with a reasonable amount of plausible explanation and corroboration, much of it based on the contemporary knowledge and experience of a practicing psychiatrist. He verifies his claims to his satisfaction using kinesiology as the primary instrument. It was amusing as I pondered whether each claim rang true for me as well. This book includes an eclectic bibliography that reveals the wide span of Hawkins' interests and of course, cites his own prior work. Later works by this author expand on the themes established here. If you are going to get any of these newer books, you still ought to read "Power vs. Force" because it is really the foundational work. "The Eye of the I" goes deeper into the spiritual side and discusses what it takes to achieve enlightenment. "I" explains the evolution of human consciousness and ego and discusses the challenges of spiritual growth. "Truth vs. Falsehood" reports the results of extensive kinesiological research on myriad social, religious, political, and spiritual issues both current and historical. "Transcending the Levels of Consciousness" is a guidebook for one who seriously intends to achieve enlightenment in this lifetime. It illuminates the path from the lowest to the highest levels of consciousness and explains in detail how obstacles may be overcome. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Powerful Techniques, too much filler stuff... Personally, I'm not a big fan of channelled material. So, I read this material as if it was written by Esther and Jerry Hicks based on tapping the all-knowing power within them. That being said, I do appreciate those techniques and explanations why it is important to master one's own feelings while creating a life that is enjoyable. Based on my own spiritual expeditions, I know there is nothing more important than learning to be the commander of your own feelings, mental as well as self-images. Toward this purpose, Abraham-Hicks offers great tools, easy-to-understand and implement techniques. This is my first Abraham-Hicks book that I have read, and I must say it explains things so that even someone not too familiar with their teachings can grasp it, understand what they mean -- and follow along. They say it is a sequel to "Ask and It Is Given", but even without reading "Ask and It Is Given", I was able to follow the trail without a problem. The only reason why I give 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that I think the book has too much filler. Same technique is explained with so many boring examples that I started feeling a bit irritated (revising those feelings as I write). I don't know about rest of you, but I get it with few examples. I don't need fifty examples how to apply it. I am a creative being, I can do it on my own. The way Abe-Hicks did it is that they gave a technique, and then made up tens of different cases and instructed on each case how to use it.. It started to feel like "Abraham-Hicks for dummies" toward the end... DUH! However, my slight irritation and skipping those examples paid off and in the end of the book I found much appreciated Abraham-Hicks transcript with Q&A. It too seemed more or less like filler.... but at least it was ten times more interesting to read than the examples. Beginners --- feel free to get a copy of this book.. Advanced Abers, I am not sure how much new information you would discover from this book... These same things are discussed on numerous Abraham-Hicks tapes that a friend has shared with me previously. So it is not all that new. It works, if you do those damn drills... and this is science that I love... Science of making your life worth a while, and making it so memorable that you'd like to live it again. Summary: Channelled material Another "you can do it" book; I recommend the Avatar course "the art of living deliberately" This is a 9-day experiencial course where you get to actually experience what this book/and Conversation with God are referring to. Much more powerful, but costly too!!! avatarepc.com EPC stands for Enlightened Planetary Civilization Summary: Trust Your GPS System One of the most important questions asked in this book is, "Are you allowing or resisting wellness, thriving, clarity, and abundance?" Most might say, "Of course I want to feel great, thrive, be really clear and prosperous." And then, if we are to monitor our emotions, in the present tense, noticing when we feel pain, and when we feel pleasure, we would find that what we feel about what we think is guiding us to either resist or allow our desires. Our emotions tell us, much as a GPS system does, if we are moving towards or away from our life's journey. And, even though this information was not new to me, I had the opportunity to track my GPS system by writing a 20-page emotional map letter, identifying the worst to the best feelings, in a relationship. The outcome of my emotional map letter (that is tracking what I felt about what I thought and experienced) supported "The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent," because what mattered most, with clarity, created the best outcome for me. Two points, however, that did surprise me about "The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent," are: Although the author asserts that this book is a follow up of her first book, and that the reader doesn't need to read the first book without receiving full appreciation of this book, I noticed that terms in this book were not clearly defined, early on, as they were in "Ask and it is Given." Also, while I appreciate what I learned from this book, the second half of this book really seemed to be a recreation of the first book. A great quote from "The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent," is, "Life is really about beginning to feel the slight tugging of dissatisfaction with your current vehicle ... and then feeling the gentle process of clarifying personal preferences regarding details of the desired vehicle ... and then consciously witnessing the movement of forces and situations to accomodate the acquisition." Another powerful message from this book is, "If you feel as if things are not changing, or changing very slowly, this is the reason: You are giving most of your attention to the what-is you are living, and little of your attention to the what-you-would-like-to-be-living."
