Summary: Review of Plumbs Vet. Drug Handbook
Very informational. The additions in the back of the book help very much,specifically Therapeutic Class Index. All in all, a fine book especially for the purpose I am utilizing it for, veterinary technician.

Summary: Great Resource!
This is a great resource for those of us who own pets with a number of medical conditions/number of medications prescribed. It makes it much easier to understand the medications, potential side effects and drug interactions. I feel like I can have a more educated conversation with my Veterinarian about medications and supplements now that I have this resource. I really like that fact that this book contains information about supplements along with prescription medications! Very useful!

Summary: Bigger is better!
When the box arrived I initially thought there must have been a mistake. I ordered 2 copies for my animal hospital and the box was big enough to hold two large city-sized phone books. Upon opening I realized the reason for the oversize box and suspect weight was that the books are considerably larger and thicker, and for good reason. More information (all the latest, of course), and larger typeset (which is helpful for all of us except maybe the newest of grads). Everything else is the same reliable Plumb we have become accustomed to going to for information throughout the day. If there is any problem at all its in that this volume is just a little too big to fit in the same spot in the "reference book drawer" in our pharmacy where the smaller version was kept. Come to think of it, the old Plumb spent most of its time on the countertop anyway!

Summary: The standard...
Before my first spay, I watched the demonstration video a few times, read over my spay manual a few times....but reading the procedure over in Fossum upped my confidence in remembering each step.

I've used this book to clarify certain procedures mentioned in my classes, and it has helped me so much conceptually. The illustrations are great and provide a great model to accompany the instructions.

It's a standard for any vet student!

Summary: An almost overwhelming amount of information
If you are one of those people that want to be able to find answers to questions on your own, no matter how technical, this is a good book for you.

First, this review is being written from the perspective of a pet owner, NOT a veterinarian. I do have 20 years experience interacting with human clinicians (doctor, pharmacists, nurses, etc.) so I am familiar with more medical jargon than most people. However, I believe that a motivated student could gain a lot of knowledge from this book. I have used it much more than I anticipated since I got it.

The book covers the following animals:
Dogs
Cates
Small Mammals (Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents)
Reptiles
Birds

However, the majority of the focus of the book is on dogs and cats.

There is an entire chapter dedicated to homemade pet food and all the considerations that are required if you are going to undertake such an endeavor. There is far more to it than I realized to make certain that your animal is getting all the nutrients that they require for good health.

The book covers a lot of simple information like how many calories to feed an animal varied by age and activity level.

There are entire chapters dedicated to Nutritional Management of Animals that are experiencing health problems, these are:

However, if you are a motivated student, you can gain a lot from this book even without a current knowledge of medical terminology. I highly recommend this book to animal lovers that want to make the best nutritional choices for the furry members of their family.

Summary: Very technical but very useful.
The 4th edition of Small Animal Clinical Nutrition is significantly different from the first 3 editions -- expanded, more information, different editors, different organization, etc.

Much of this volume is more technical than the average reader wants or needs. It is a textbook used in veterinary schools. But a dedicated reader could gain much from it. Even the average reader could benefit from the chapters on commerical pet foods and on home prepared diets.

Summary: Contributions
Is good to see this book is not just written by nutriologist, there is an important contribution of clinicians dedicated to specific areas.

this book is very basic, if you have more than a year's work at a clinic you might be bored. A good beginner book for Vet Techs who dont have any in clinic experience.

Summary: Well worth the money
Consider this as the book that complete's Mosby's review. It follows the exact same contents but instead of being written in outline form (which condenses and leaves out alot of information), this book is written with full sentences and paragraphs. It reads well, filling in all the gaps in Mosby's without getting too over the head. The pictures are worth a million for all those things that were difficult to visualize. I highly recommend this book, even over Mosby's to study for the VTNE! You'll not only use it to study for the exam, but to keep it as reference in the future.

I did a muscle and joint force project for which I needed detailed muscle diagrams of the horse's hindquarters. When I needed the illustrations, of course, I could not find any that had the appropriate level of detail (not online, through videos, books, etc). For this reason when I recently saw this book it. I would strongly recommend that any other rider or person with a starting interest in horse healthcare do the same. This is an excellent addition to a equine reference library. My version is spiral bound and had clear crisp black and white illustrations that can be xeroxed or colored in. Summary: perfectly simple The coloring atlas of horse anatomy is a wonderful tool for the study and understanding of the horse anatomy. It is presented to the viewer in a form of simplicity but at the same time with unmatchable professionalism and details, evidently the author has a great respect, knowledge and understanding of the noble animal and the viewer as well. The atlas is easily approachable by the first time student for its easy and clear graphical and illustrative format. The idea of "do it yourself" it's great. Coloring the components of the horse anatomy while studying it helps the anatomist to impress the subject in his/her mind with remarkable and undeleting results. One of his kind. Summary: Great Midnight Help
This is a good, well written, and well organized book. There is a whole section on diarreha, including how much Pepto-Bismal to give a dog and other home care. This was invaluable when my dog got into something she shouldn't have eaten.

This book provides information on a wide variety of topics concerning dog health. The information is explained in a way that pet owners can understand without having the medical background. It covers behavior, emergencies and CPR, and many common diseases and conditions that veterinarians encounter everyday. It discusses how to recognize specific conditions and how to tell when they can be treated at home or if they are emergencies that require immediate veterinary care. As a nurse in an animal hospital, I often have to refer to medical books for basic and specific information on many diseases and conditions and this book provides it in a fast and easy-to-read format. The information it provides is simple, but thorough. I keep this book at the hospital and use it regularly.

I decided to give up coffee. I went the whole weekend without coffee. I woke up with a pounding headache Saturday morning. I took a couple of asprin & it passed (though I realized aspirin has caffeine). No more side effects the rest of the weekend. I was put to the ultimate test, too. I volunteered to giftwrap at Barnes & Noble, which of course, has a Starbucks inside. I was 20 feet from the counter for 2 hours

Summary: Great book for all small animal veterinarians, buy it!
I have worn out the first edition, which is just under 300 pages. This book is about twice the size but has more than 2X the info because the type is smaller. This is the book I often use daily to get me through poisonings, trauma and more. Each problem has the treatment completely listed, you do NOT have to page back and forth to find drugs, procedures, etc. Buy it, I'm glad I did!

Summary: Needed for emergency vets
Great book for an emergency practice or just to review the occasional emergency problem. Definitely worth buying. Also, worth updating from the first edition.
