Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent First Read This is an excellent introductory text book in radiology. It contains excellent images and covers the key fundamentals in radiology. It would be ideal for the PGY1 or PGY2 resident to read through to gain familarity in radiology before moving on to the major reference texts. Very readable book that does not overwhelm the junior resident with needless minutia. Summary: Fundamental of Diagnostic Radiology This is the single excellent book for Radiology Residents and General Radiologists. Seperate sections on US and NM are the best parts of this book. CT Scan and MRI are dispersed with the General Radiology. If the authors create seperate sections of CT and MRI like US and NM in the next edition, the book will become the only perfect book in General Radiology. This book contains treasure of knowledge for the Radiology residents and racticing General Radiologists. Summary: Concise but not enough for residency. Not a bad overview of most subjects, but some areas are lacking. The bone trauma subsection is particularly scant, excluding all of the fracture grading schemes. Additionally, while somewhat dedicated to differential generating, you don't really get a feel for what is actually common. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: kickass asp.net 2.0 I have gone through alot of asp.net books. This is one of the asp.net 2.0 books which superceded in quality to the infamous 1.1 asp.net 1.1 web site programming book. This is THE asp.net 2.0 book. i S^&* u not. Summary: A great introduction to asp.net 2.0 Let's get one thing straight. If you're looking for a reference book, this isn't it. Marco doesn't explain every property of every control that you MIGHT want to use. He explains the most common properties of those controls that you probably ARE going to use, and that's a good thing. I've got my share of 1000+ page Wrox reference books, and they're great for looking up specific items, but not so great for learning. A comparison is in order. If this were a cookbook, you wouldn't find dissertations on the relative merits of different cooking oils, or obscure recipes requiring ingredients you can't get at the local grocery store. This is the cookbook in which you'll find basic breads, pot roasts, and pastas... the staples that you WILL need at some point. It also includes some dishes you didn't even know you needed until you see them the first time. That makes this book a great place to start learning ASP.Net programming, or a useful walk-through to lead you from v1.1 to v2.0. Either way, it's a great book to have around during the transition. I also see myself coming back to this book down the road when I need to implement one of the common situations Marco covers such as sending out batches of newsletters, or leveraging the asp.net membership system. I'll be saying "Hey, didn't Marco do that in his book?", and pulling it off the shelf for a quick look. Summary: A pleasure to read I had already bought 3 books about ASP.NET 2.0, and I have many many more about ASP.NET 1.x, before I bought this one...and now I wish I took it sooner! Yes, because this book is no like anything else. All other books I read provide detailed reference to the controls and classes of the framework...and they may actually do a good job at that. However, they often provide un-realistic short examples that span a page or two...too simple to actually reproduce real situations, and in fact most of the times these examples leave you thinking: "well, this is nice, but my app is not that simple...how can I really put this in practice into a real website...that must be fast, easy to maintain, provide logging, designed with the proper 3 tier architecture, reusable components etc. etc. ???". If you've ever thought something like this reading another book, then this is book IS THE ANSWER. It explains how to develop an entire (and pretty complex actually!!!) site from start to finish, convering not only the code, but also all the design phase, with a lot of interesting considerations, suggestions, and discussion of alternatives! It's a dream come true for a developer like me :-) For those that are at their first experience with ASP.NET 2.0 (but NOT with ASP.NET in general...read something else first if you're coming straight from ASP or some other technology) it also provides good descriptions of the major new features (master pages, themes, membership, profiles, gridview, objectdatasource, menu & sitemap, webparts, localization etc. etc.). Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Excellent book It is definitely the best Plastic Surgery text ever and Amazon is great regarding deliveries. I always use their service and am very pleased. Summary: Let the buyer beware I am a Plastic Surgeon and thus very interested in the subject matter. The The Text is actually very good but you will be cheated with the online access. 1. access is slow. Elsevier has not fixed this problem since it was brought to their attention last summer. 2. There is a floating copyright notice that moves over the illustrations. This is incredibly annoying and distracting. 3. You will only be allowed to access the Online Edition from two different computers. What good is that if you work in six or seven different locations. 4. You will not be allowed to export any illustrations for use in teaching etc. The content is good but the way the Online Edition has been managed borders on fraud! Summary: The ultimate plastic surgery reference This 8 volume plastic surgery treatise, taken as a single reference, is the largest medical book in the history of medical documentation. This is the fourth version of this series started by John Marquis Converse for the first two editions (1964, 1977), continued by Joseph G. McCarthy (1990), and now edited by Stephen J. Mathes (2005). The vast spectrum of medical diseases treated by plastic surgeons are covered in 219 chapters broken down into 8 logical reference books: (1) General Principles, (2, 3) Head and Neck, Parts 1 and 2, (4) Pediatric Plastic Surgery, (5) Tumors of the Head, Neck, and Skin, (6) Trunk and Lower Extremity, and (7, 8) The Hand and Upper Limb, Parts 1 and 2. Illustrated with thousands of pictures and drawings, the human maladies and conditions treated by plastic surgeons are beautifully presented for educational edification. This is a must reference for possibly the next 10-15 years for current and in-training plastic surgeons. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 4 Reviews: Summary: Everything About How to Install and Use Joomla Joomla is a free, open source content management system and this book, by Hagen Graf, will show you everything about how to install and use Joomla for your website. The only thing you need to get started is PHP, Apache and MySQL. Joomla's modular structure allows the user to customize and extend the basic setup to meet their needs. Graf begins by discussing Joomla's various features and gives a general overview of how the program can be applied in real world situations. He then begins to give step-by-step instructions for how to install Joomla. Because the purpose of Joomla is content management, Graf explains in detail the program's structure and how to enter and organize your content. After covering the default setup, Graf talks about extensions - components, modules and mambots which are three ways to extend and customize Joomla. There are many of these extensions available on the web that can be used with or have been written specifically for Joomla. Graf discusses a few of his favorites. First, he talks about the Simpleboard component and accompanying modules which will add a forum to the Joomla base program. He also covers the Events Calendar component and accompanying modules. Next, he discusses the gallery component called zOOm Media Gallery and the E-Commerce component called VirtueMart. You can customize more than just Joomla's functionality and Graf explains how to create your own webpage templates to customize the appearance of your site. You can even use Adobe Dreamweaver to create these custom templates. Finally, for those readers who have a special need that has not yet been addressed, Graf shows how to create your own extensions. Hagen Graf has been programming since the late 70's and now works in his wife's consulting company as well as many other projects. He has written three computer books in his native German language and two have been translated into English. Summary: A Missing Manual? Basically, I got what I wanted... which was a relatively brief overview and guide to this powerful program. The language is a bit awkward (It's a mediocre translation from German), but it's knowledgeable and concise. Not brilliant, but useful just the same. Summary: Perfect for learning Joomla! 1.0x Hagen has done a beautiful job at explaining how to use Joomla!. From installation to using all the wonderful features of Joomla! to installing third party extensions to creating your own templates and extensions, this book will have you up and running as quick and with about as comprehensive understanding as possible. As a user of Joomla! from the very beginning of its inception and long time user of its ancestor, Mambo, I wish I had something like this to take me by the hand and start me off when I first began. Everything is all in a nice tidy little package which can be referenced again and again as needed. I even learned a thing or two I didn't know before by reading this. This book is a great investment for anyone wishing for a thorough introduction to Joomla! Open Source CMS. Summary: |

Avg Cusomer Rating: 5 Reviews: Summary: Unbelievable! I've read through many of the reviews on this site, both positive and negative. The main point is that if you are a beginner to ASP.NET, C#, or both then this book is NOT for you. However, if you have some experience with ASP.NET and C#.NET and would like to learn more about an N-Tier approach (essentially programming in .NET the RIGHT way) then this book is a MUST. I can't understand why anyone would give this book less than a 5 star rating that meet the authors' intended audience criteria (which, by the way, is stated in the book). I have read the book cover to cover several times and constantly use it as a resource. The book is a series of examples leading up to one project, but I don't think the authors' main intentions were for us to try and build ThePhile.com. From this book I took away the understanding of how to build a scalable, portable, professional Web site having 100% control over it. If you build web sites with ASP.NET as a novice or hobbyist and want to get to the next level, this book is for you! I own both the VB.NET and C#.NET versions and I highly recommend either one. Summary: Outstanding ASP.NET Case Study ASP.NET Website Programming: Problem - Design - Solution, C# Edition by Marco Bellinaso & Kevin Hoffman is one of the most USABLE books I have seen. I stress the word USABLE because most books are either reference manuals or just teaching tools. Either one need is hit upon or the other, whereas with this book you get to have your cake and eat it too! The whole design of this book revolves around designing a web site from the ground up, all using ASP.NET with C# as the programming language of choice. The authors assume that you begin with nothing and you need to have all the parts of your web site hit upon to get this up and running for corporate or personal use. Since .NET is still a very new tool, this book is a very helpful resource to have for any and all web developers. The Authors break the book up into the following parts: Design of the overall layout, database, look and feel Setting up basic foundations like CSS, navigation, etc Editing and viewing all files that make up the site hierarchy A look at managing news (information displayed to the user) How advertising can be set up to bring in revenue Creating and displaying polls on your site Working with Mailing Lists Managing a Forum Deploying the site to the world A discussion of different data stores that can be used The writing in this book is very clear-cut and easy to follow. Using the code supplied in this book, the user can modify as they see fit and get their own site up and running in no time. As an ASP.NET case study, this is the best book that I have seen to follow a site from birth to adulthood. This is a fantastic book for all C#, ASP.NET, web developers and it's a great addition to your current staple of related programming books. ***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Summary: A reference book for developing a commercial web site I did not like the layout of the matiral, a bit clombsy but as a refernce book for finding out how to develop a commercial web site it sure does the work. Avg Cusomer Rating: 2 Reviews: Summary: Nielson disappoints again Admittedly, I've been biased against Nielson's works since the publication of `Designing Web Usability' in 1999; finding his tendency to oversimplify and `deconstruct' rather ineffectual. And as usual, `Homepage Usability' disappoints as an overly sensational and inaccurate evaluation of homepage usability. There are good parts, in particular, the statistics you may want to reference for your own usability initiatives. But the `50 webpages deconstructed' portion is not much more than Nielson spewing hot air. If you learn (or are entertained) best through critique by an impossible standard and ideal, by all means, this book is for you. If you are looking for a USABLE and real life guide to homepage design, look elsewhere. Summary: Jakob Nielsen is a huge dork! I was forced to use this book for college in a "Website Admin" class. I think the first 53 pages make a good reference for web design but the rest of it is all about how fortune 500 companies have bad websites. Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, etc... come on now, these companies ARE the internet and this guy is "deconstructing" them and critisizing what they do wrong. Anyway, design is completely relative so use this as a guide only. By the way... pages 54 through 320 can be removed as far as i'm concerned. In other news... Nielsen is a huge dork and likes men. Summary: detailed critiques of major websites This book excels in giving detailed critiques of the home pages of 50 prominent websites. These include Microsoft, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, General Electric and Boeing. The websites span the gamut from appealing to a mass audience, like Amazon and MTV, to more specialised corporate sites like GE. The authors offer incisive comments. All the more valuable for not being always complimentary. They show how even a large company can have flaws in its home page. Take GE for example. Its page has a "Buy Online" section. But it is mostly misleading. The links in that section point to such items as aircraft, which you cannot buy online. The websites were captured several years ago. So it's quite possible that if you go to their current addresses, the pages are different. Yet the analysis in the book is still instructive. It should also be noted that the unusual shape of the book might be misleading. From the outside, it looks like a coffeetable type book. Full of glossy images. It does indeed have the latter. But these are high resolution screen captures that enhance the visual nature of the pages and their analyses. If you are designing your own website, try going first through this book, for inspiration. Summary: |
